five police cars in this view where police have been trying to clear the area. we have seen police officers in riot gear trying to clear the area. adding to the clouds are thousands of sharks fan leaving after the sharks playoff game. ktvu's jade hernandez is live in san jose where police are out in riot gear. >> reporter: we can show you what police have shown us so far. right here, two unmarked police vehicles. one a smashed windshield and we have been told this vehicle has a slashed tire. these are two of the minor incidents tonight. there have been bigger ones. police tell me fires were lit by the crowd. look at video we shot. this video shows actually officers forming a huge line

and clearing the streets, dispersing the clouds. many have already wandered back into the neighborhood. we are at 19th street where cinco de mayo celebrations have taken route. we arrived an hour ago and we were immediately told police started having trouble after 8:00 p.m. tonight. baseball bats, rocks and bottles being thrown at the officers and car windows being broken at 18 18th. we tried contacting the spokesperson for police but we have not been contacted back. there has been a heavy police presence tonight. earlier tonight news chopper 2 caught a innocent cinco de mayo party here. they had toact before 8:30 p.m.

mateo bridge. the man who shot this had no idea people were trapped inside. he saw several women outside and other drivers pulled over but no commotion. >> nobody was trying to get into the limo. i didn't think they needed help to break a window. we kept driving. >> only today did he learn five women died in the blazing limo. four women towards the front and the driver escaped as flames engulfed the back. the coroner found the victims pressed to the front. >> they were up against the partition. i believe they were trying to follow one of the surviving victim whose went through the partition opening. >> reporter: many met and became friends while working at this nursing home.

tonight. ktvu's news chopper 2 shot this video before 8:00 p.m. tonight. officials tell us it was a one acre fire. 15 fire engines responded because of high winds and remote access to the area. and in the hills there was a large response to a grass fire also because of the high winds around 7:45 a.m. this morning ask took six hours to get under control. it was difficult to access. burned 1.5 access. initial reports are it was sparked by a downed power line. in southern california the weather helped firefighters there get a hand on a major wildfire. it broke out thursday morning and burned 28,000 acres and damaged 60 buildings and that includes 15 homes. crews have the fire 75% contained. they also set back burns to help control the fire.

crews are mopping up and maining the control lines. >> picking up hot spots, making sure it doesn't cross this trail. >> they expect full containment by tomorrow. the cause of the fire is under investigation. but arson has been ruled out. up north a wildfire is now 40% contained. it broke out last wednesday. so far it burned 6800 acres. firefighters say windy conditions made the fire hard to fight. crews are concerned about possible lightning strikes. cal fire expects containment by thursday. a fire on san francisco treasure island destroyed a home and took the life of a family pet. fire started around 4:00 a.m. this morning. firefighters managed to keep the flames from spreading and confined it to one unit.

officials said a man inside the home at the time of the fire escaped but a cat was killed. a canoe trip turns tragic for a family leaving two people dead. why crews had a difficult time trying to find the victims. >> i am mike mibach on the 110 in southern california. many drivers say it is too districting so why is this system on its way to the bay area. >> diving for clues. the two places authorities searched today as they tried to track down a little girl's killer. look at them kids. an afternoon canoe trip turned into tragedy. the canoe tripped over with four family members inside and two didn't make it to shore. ktvu's matt keller has more on why the weather hampered rescue efforts. >> reporter: the call came in after 1:00 p.m. this afternoon from lexington reservoir. a canoe with four people on board capsized. no one was wearing a life vest. two swam to shore and two others went under water. a helicopter searched while divers looked for the two men

below. >> visibility is zero, the scanner sonar allows us to cover a bigger area in a shorter amount of time. >> reporter: divers found the man within an hour. he was taken to a hospital where he died. the other man was found around 5:00 p.m. this evening, he also died at the hospital. the weather made the search more difficult. >> the dive team said with the wind whipping up they had to maneuver the boat in different directions. the conditions made it more difficult. >> reporter: investigators say they are looking into why the canoe capsized. at lexington reservoir, matt keller, ktvu channel 2 news. another diver has died off the coast. a man collapsed and died yesterday after getting out of

the water. he is the 4th diver to die in the last week off the coast. the other three died in separate incidents last weekend. those victims were a retired firefighter, a man from san francisco and a man from san bruno. a pg&e worker injured and hundreds lost power during a repair of a transformer in san francisco. happened after 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. pg&e says a piece of equipment failed and that caused a flash that injured the employee and damaged equipment. the employee's injuries were minor. 2600 customers lost power. dive teams spent the day searching two reservoirs near the home of leila fowler, the young girl stabbed to death a
