ground garage. it happened in the --ful considers were damaged in the fire. smoke rose toward their units. it was a rude awakening for one person who's car was parked feet from the fire. >> exhausted. freaked out. just want to make sure. it's a brand new car. i want to make sure it's okay. >> two other people were taken to the hospital for minor cases of smoke inhalation. they say it's too early to tell what caused that fire. they will tell us more about this weekend's deadly limousine fire on the san mateo bridge. five women including the bride were killed while heading to a wedding celebration in foster city. now we have live team coverage for you. tara moriarty is live in san

jose with the latest on these surviving victims. we will start with alex savage. you're at chp headquarters with the latest. >> reporter: investigators at this point are still trying to figure out exactly how that fire started and how the five women became trapped inside that burning limo. we hope to get more answers when the chp holds a briefing later on this morning. a bride and her four friends were killed in that limo fire. this is cell phone video of the flames shooting from the back of the limo. the limo driver orval brown -- someone knocked on the partition door and said there was smoke in the passenger compartment and the women asked him to pull over. by the time the limo stopped on the bridge flames and smoke were filling the passenger compartment. the driver told the chronicle four women escaped the car but

five'res were tracked. a witness to the fire told us he saw several women standing outside the limo on the bridge and figured everyone made it out safely. >> nobody was trying to get into the limo. i didn't think they needed help to break a window or something. we just kept driving. >> reporter: the coroner told ktvu all five women who died in the fire were found huddled near the front partition. one of the women killed in the fire had recently been married and the group was out celebrating on saturday night. in fact, they were on their way to the crown plaza hotel in foster city where the bride's husband -- the company says it's saturdayened by what has taken place and it's fully cooperating with the investigation. the chp offering new details on

their conversation. live this morning in redwood city alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. we are learning more about the victims of the horrible tragedy. tara moriarty is joining us now from santa clara county valley medical center with that part of the story. >> the victims are still recovering here at the hospital. we don't know when they will be release. they were part of such a happy occasion. obviously it turned out so tragic. condolences for the 31st 31st. >> i was shocked. i just heard this morning. terrible. >> reporter: friends visiting mary grace and 36-year-old

going to our channel 2 website ktvu.com. over night shooting in oakland has left one man dead, another one wounded. it happened last night at 10:45 on 86th. the other shooting victim was taken by ambulance and is expected to survive. so far no arrests have been made. the investigation goes on. san jose police made several arrests for violence related to cinco de-- cinco de mayo. rowdy crowds mixed with police. rocks and bottles were thrown at them. cars were vandalized and vta bus was set on fire. new this morning a united nations commission is releasing the results of its investigation into the reported use of chemical weapons in syria. coming up at 6:15 what one member of the commission is saying this morning about what the evidence shows.

cooler weather is helping firefighters gain control of a major wild fire in southern california. it's expected to be fully contained by tonight. that wild fire burned 28,000 acres and damaged 15 homes. four fighters suffered minor injuries. investigator are looking into the cause of the wild fire but they say it's not arson. a wild fire burning northeast of -- three firefighters also suffered minor injuries fighting that fire. volunteer was arrested on suspicion of arson. 23-year-old robert mckinley was caught yesterday near the scene of an attempted arson. he reportedly they found

evidence felony charges of arson. the redwood city council is recommending a the harbor owner evicted tenants there in order to sale the property to a land developer who is planning to build 400 residential units. the planet rub sal ever sr. at north anyone this car fire. people were able to get out. traffic is a little slow. it's on the shoulder. it's not a spectacular fire but there was certainly smoke and flames seen coming from the car. watch for it and watch for the fire department. also the morning commute as we move to the bay bridge toll

can see what is coming up from the southwest. rotating around that low. and swinging off the sierra heading toward northern nap pa county and sonoma. so combination of the two put us in a painting a partly cloudy scooter scattered shower forecast. tuesday evening it should be on the way out of here. 50s on the temps. and that system off the sierra nevada a little bit of snow in some of the higher elevations. last check tahoe and truckee were too low for snow. this band right here is losing a little bit of its punch. i expect that to pick up. a cool 61 in palm springs. this system right there continues to kind of rotate back in a lot of cloud cover. it's one of the ones you are looking this way and comes this way. near 70 for many today. low to mid temperatures kind of really close here. coast bay and also inland.

welcome back. time now 6:14. divers searched two reservoirs over the weekend in connection to a stapping death of an -- stabbing death of an eight-year- old girl. leila was found stabbed to death this her home. an intruder broke in while their parents were at a little league game. investigators also say they haven't found a link between the attempted kidnapping of a 15-month-old girl in placerville and the death of leila fowler. new information we are learning about the deadly plane crash. the department of defense says all three airmen were part of

the refueling squad at fair child air force base. two of the airmen are from victoria. and 31 p.o.-year-old herman mackey. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. sentencing two -- and in this case -- >> israel launched two air strikes in two days. so far israel is not confirming or denying the reports. the explosions yesterday lasted more than an hour. civilian neighborhoods were also damaged. this is not confirmed but syrian groups claim 42 syrian soldiers were killed and at least 100 people are missing.

u.s. officials say they they were not warned ahead of these strikes. all of this is happening as the united nations investigates the use of chemical weapons. the white house recently said it was syria's regime that used the weapons on civilians and the u.n. is still investigating but says so far it believes rebel forces used those chemical weapons. >> we had no indication at all that the government had used chemical weapons. >> reporter: now all of this could effect how the obama administration decides to help the rebels in syria and also how to defend israel. what analysts are saying this morning. live in washington kyla campbell ktvu channel 2 news. in just a couple of hours from right now pg&e annual shareholder meeting gets under way in san francisco. and san bruno city leaders will be there demanding hefty fines

for the 2010 pipeline explosion. pg&e should pay fines of more than $1 billion for not fixing the aging pipeline that led to that disaster. eight people died, 58 others were hurt in that explosion in 2010. more than 100 homes were damaged or destroyed. in utah charges could be increased against a teenager accused of fatally punching a soccer referee. family members and friends held a candle light vigil for 46- year-old ricardo. he died over the weekend. a week after being attacked on a soccer field. his daughter talked about her final moments with her father in the hospital. >> he pressed my hand really hard. i said daddy we're going to be okay. he saw me. he started crying and said i know. >> a 17-year-old player

delivered that fatal punch. but he kept doing it because of his love of soccer. as the senate committee prepares to begin voting on immigration reform legislation opponents say they will campaign hard against it. the senate committee takes up on the bill on thursday. the legislation was introduced by a bipartisan group of eight senators. even if the bill say proved in the senate they doubt it would pass in the republican controlled house. a week of rock and roll music festival kicks off tonight in napa valley. bottle rock week will start tonight. the actual festival begins wednesday night with headliner mcill more and ryan lewis. those are the thrift shop boys. >> you like them hemp i know.

actually it's off the bay area. san mateo coast. it extends all the way down to southern california. so two bands one there and another one swinging up from the southwest. 50s on the temps. santa rosa is 49. sfo is 50. it's closed for many. there is the low it will be here today and tomorrow. and thin it says i'll be out of here. the presence is felt in the form of not only clouds but also possibility of scattered showers and maybe thundershowers. it's certainly late enough in the season you get a little afternoon and heating. we'll get some later today. it would not surprise me scattered showers. a lot of clouds. some breaks in the clouds. they will build up a little later. possible afternoon thunderstorms. 60s and 70s. temperatures cool off a little bit more tomorrow. low is out of the picture wednesday and we'll see temperatures slowly climbing. just getting slightly above

average here. crude oil prices are climbing again. this morning a barrel of crude is selling for more than $96. they believe last friday's job report people will start spending again. gas prices up a penny a gallon. here in the bay area they are holding steady or slipping slightly. in san francisco the average price $4.02. down two cents from last week. in santa rosa $3.93. that is the same as last week. you may have to give me shelter. because the rolling stones perform the first of two bay area concerts. last nights special guest who took the stage with mick and keith and the fellas. and the challenging issue of chihuahuas and how local rescue groups are responding. ♪

he helped draft italy's new constitution after world war ii. bay area animal activists are starting off a campaign. they want to spay or neuter 500 chihuahuas this month. the east bay -- chihuahuas have been very popular in breeding them. speaking of shelters. rolling stones came back to oakland on their 50 and counting tour. there were special guests last night during the performances. the band tweeted this photo of tom waits no joined the band on stage at one point. and there was a feature performance by the san jose state university core leers. now the next stop on the rolling stones 50th anniversary tour will be san joses hp pavilion and that is wednesday

it's monday, may 6th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. time now is 6:30. we continue with our developing news from the scene of a car fire that forced more than 100 people out of their apartments early this morning. that fire is out but the investigation continues. ktvu janine de la vega is there in san jose with what is happening right now. janine. >> reporter: pam, the fire engines left but there is an investigator inside this under ground parking garage. we went inside to take a look at the car that caught fire and it was a melted mess. we were told that the owner of that car is at the hospital. this fire broke out at 4:00 this morning in the under ground parking garage of the apartment complex on sands drive. fire officials found this dodge sedan in flames. it was unoccupied at the time. smoke was pouring out of the garage and that caused a panic among residents. the owner of the car next to the burning car tried to save his kia by driving it out but it was too late.

he spoke to his son. >> he drove the car while it was on fire? >> yeah. it wasn't a large fire. just underneath the rear bumper. when he came out he wasn't even too concerned that it was on fire. >> reporter: that man's father and another person were sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation. we still do not know their condition. we're also told a firefighter was also taken to the hospital. he was complaining of chest pains and nausea. more than 100 people were evacuated from the complex. firefighters were crediting the sprinkler system from inside helping from keeping the fire from spreading. two cars damaged in this fire. no one was seriously hurt. and we're still trying to find out from investigators exactly what may have sparked this fire. because what we are being told there was nobody inside that original vehicle when the car caught fire. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. time now 6:32.

we are following new developments in that deadly limousine fire. five women were killed while heading to a wedding celebration in foster city. alex savidge is joining us live now. he's at chp headquarters with the first public comments from that limo driver. >> reporter: good morning. the driver one of five people who survived that fire over the weekend. and he says that he wishes he could have done more to help the five women who became trapped inside that burning limo. this was a group that was heading out for a wedding celebration. a bride and her four friends were killed in the fire that raced through their limo. this is cell phone video from the san mateo bridge. the limo driver orval brown told the san francisco chronicle that someone said there was smoke in the back. by the time the limo stopped on the bridge flames were filling the compartment. four women escaped the fire by climbing through the front

partition but five others were trapped. the coroner told ktvu which all five women who died in this fire were found huddled near the front partition. one of the women who killed in the fire had recently been married and the group was heading out to celebrate. they were on their way to the crown plaza hotel where the bride's husband were waiting for them arrive. that limo that exploded in frame flames is a 1999 lincoln town car. later on this morning investigators will if holding a briefing offering more details on how this fire started potentially and how those five women were trapped inside that burning limo. live this morning in redwood city alex savidge county ktvu channel 2 news. >> we are finding out more about the women that were killed and injured in this horrifying tragedy. tara moriarty will have more on that story coming up at 6:45. a friend of the surviving suspect in the boston marathon

bombings is scheduled to appear in court today for a detention hearing. robel is charged with lying to investigators about visiting dzhokhar tsarnaev's dorm room after the bombings. two other friends have been charged with taking a laptop and a backpack containing fire works from the room. an attorney is expected to argue he should be released from jail because he played no role in the bombings and does not pose a flight risk. the other suspect in the boston marathon bombings will not be buried in cambridge, massachusetts. the city manager says he will not allow tamerlan tsarnaev to be buried within city limits. he was killed in a shootout with police three days after the bombings. tsarnaev's uncle has been searching for other burial sites without success. three so-called whistle

blowers the house oversight committee released a transcript with the interview. he says for the americans on the ground in libya, there was never any question that it was a terrorist attack. initially u.s. ambassador to the u.n. susan rice says the attack appears to be in response to a propaganda video. 6:35. this week president obama is beginning a series of quick trips around the country trying to remind the american people he still has jobs and the economy on his mind. the president will kick off the effort on thursday. he will be flying to austin, texas. the white house says the president wants to highlight programs that seem to work and companies that are creating jobs. back here at home starting today bart will be able to ban some passengers from riding on bart trains. bart will be targeting those riders who are caught harassing other passengers, urinating in

public, or defacing bart trains. if someone is banned from bart, they could be ordered not to ride the trains for up to a year. passengers could then dispute that ban at a hearing. banned riders will be listed by name and photo for station agents to spot and identify. right now it's 6:36. unfortunately sal says there is a new crash in san jose. where is that? >> northbound 280 at saratoga avenue. we're looking at that now from our camera. and it's beginning to slow down here. you can see traffic is slowing down just a few minutes ago actually. i saw the traffic moverring along -- moving along just fine through here. so the accident is just reported out of our camera view. the fire department along with chp and medics are on the way. one car hit the center divider and believe there are injuries in this crash. let's move along and take a look at westbound bay bridge. that is backed up for a 15-20

minute delay at the toll plaza. if you drive through livermore that earlier car fire is out but we still have traffic on 580 westbound. it's pretty slow coming over to the altamont pass. let's go to steve. sal. >> yes, sir? >> the sharks are attempting to sweep. but speaking of a sweep, it was a great, great game at at & t park. the dodgers were swept by the giants. >> good morning. we do have partly cloudy skies. i mean from last week it was hot. it was 90 degrees. now coming off the sierra nevada. rotating around a low that did not come from the west. it's here. now most of the activity is one of those ones it's a broad brush. as long as the low is off the coast and rotatingngn cloud cover we are in line for possible scattered showers. i think we got a break in the

clouds, showers possible afternoon thundershowers. temperatures all pretty close here. upper 60s to low 70s for most. down good 20-25 degrees from friday. more the same on tuesday then that low moves out of the area wednesday. slightly warmer temps. we'll get into low 80s. thank you, steve. new this morning california health officials are warning people about the risk of valley fever. it comes after federal public health officials discovered a spike in cases in the west. the disease can be contracted by breathing in fungus from dirt. researchers say warmer temperatures and dry weather may be to blame. the fever has hit california's agricultural heart land especially hard in recent years. and just last week thousands of high risk inmates were removed from california prisons after three dozen inmates died from valley fever. later today east palo alto police will tell us the latest on violent shooting.

it happened yesterday afternoon. two men in a car opened fire on a bus stop on bay road near university avenue. five people were wounded including a grandmother who was with her six-year-old granddaughter. little girl fell trying to run away but she was not hurt. the intended targets were four la tee moe men who were wounded. a big vote is scheduled today on capitol hill. it could pave the way for a huge way. it was a very busy night for lots of cleanup this way. good morning westbound 237. a little bit of slow traffic. but so far a pretty doable commute here. for city crews as well. lots of trash left here over night. you also had a san jose sharks game yesterday. that had people on the streets as well. but for police we understand they made several arrests for violence rowdy crowds clashed with police. and reportedly intoxicated people from a nearby house party were causing the problems. police say rocks and bottles were thrown at them. cars were vandalized and a vta bus was also vandalized as well. overall san jose police say 11 people were arrested. that is like last year. there was a she -- ktvu jane hernandez was here last night and able to report on two damaged police cars. we drove down east santa clara

movie franchise. iron man three sold more than -- that is a second highest for any movies u.s. opening. trailing the avengers which took in $207 million in its domestic debut. pain and begin a distant second. oh live january and the crowds round out top five. an appeal was filed to stop the destruction of the dome theater which is set to be replaced by a dick's sporting goods store. they have a demolition permit but the city temporarily revoked the permit after supporters rallied to save the dome theater. the city council will decide tonight if the owners can move forward. 6:56. a pedestrian fighting to stay alive after being hit by a car in the contra costa retirement community of ross moore. it happened near stanley dollar. police say the car veered off the road on to the sidewalk and hit that pedestrian. the pedestrian was last listed
