good morning, welcome to mornings on 2, it is saturday, may 11th and i'm claudine wong. >> i'm mike mibach. let's get to rose mary and check out the forecast. >> especially if you like a warm, a note oable warm up for the -- notable warm up for the inland areas. low clouds, fog along the coast, even in the north bay, patchy dense fog to contend with. i think we'll see an earlier burn off, and temperatures heating up above yesterday, and low clouds will return for the evening and it's about the warmth for the day. i'll have a look at numbers coming up and do topping our news -- coming up. and topping our news, a fatal shooting at contra costa county. and alex savage is live and talking to a resident down the street from where the shooting happened. alex. >> reporter: this is still a crime scene out here this

morning, a police shooting according to neighbors that appeared to have been a deadly police shooting, a man killed here overnight and i will show you the scene and give you a sense of what's taking place, a whole entire block blocked off. this is buchanan road at barcelona circle in antioch. this involved the concord police department. i want to show you video from last night. this all happened about 9:00 last night, now, we are not getting any information whatsoever from concord police this morning. they are not confirming this shooting with us, but and not confirming that there was a fatality, but we did see a man lying under a tarp this morning, so we understand this was a fatal shooting. witnesses are also confirming this. they say the man who was shot apparently crashed his truck. he was on the run from officers and then there were several shots fired. listen how one neighbor who lives next to the shooting scene describes what happened.

>> i was watching the warriors game and got up and looked out the window. i see the guy run out. i tell my kids to get down, and the split second i told them to get down, i heard gunshots, like 7 gun shots and we were military style to the back, and sounded like the bullets was getting close and are -- closer and closer, and i came back to the window and the guy was laid out right there. >> neighbors are telling us and several neighbors have said they heard quite a few gun shots in the neighborhood last night. one neighbor sent us pictures. one are round came through her -- one round came through her window. we're showing you the are truck that neighbors tell us the man who was shot and killed jumped out of. apparently he was on the run from police. at this point we don't know why he was running from police. we are trying to get more information from the concord police department this morning.

i spoke with several officers hoping that a commanding officer will give us an update on what happened last night. live in antioch, alex savage ktvu channel 2 news. and oakland police told us a man shot at a bus stop along the oakland border is in grave condition. that shooting happened before 10:00 last night on corner of 61 61st and add line streets. investigators have having trouble identifying the victim. he didn't have any id on him. more than a dozen rounds were fired at that location. some hit nearby carers a liquor store and a home. police do not have anyone in custody. oakland has announced an interim police chief. the assistant chief, anthony

taribio stepped down. and shaun went was sworn in as the police chief. >> i pledge to own the role as if it were not the interim for the men and women of the police department which i now lead and as well as for the citizens of oakland, which i personally feel responsible for. >> the masor says they are looking for a permanent replacement for jordan. it is it is beginning to seem like the gang members and criminals are more organized than officials. and hosted last night by the oakland police department, gave people the chance to come out and meet officers and check out some of their equipment. the k-9 unit was also on display. >> i think it's great. it's great for the community to come and see and meet the police officers protect our city. >> people we spoke to say they are not concerned about the shake in the chief's office. they say the biggest priority is safety for themselves and their families. new this morning, smoke

from a faulty piece of equipment led to an evacuation of the white house. let me show you a live picture. a few hours ago, reporters and photographers were escorted out of the press room. firefighters were called in to inspect the room and the west wing. a transformer in the mechanical room overheated. no injuries were reported and p president -- and president obama and his family were not affected. some residents are waiting for land lines to be b -- be restored. residents haven't been able to call numbers outside the affected area, even emergency services like 911. cell phones and internet have not been affected, though, and at&t and verizon are working to restore service. the cause is still unclear of the disruption. concession workers at at&t park are threatening to go on strike. there is a dispute over pay

between the union and the workers say their pay has been frozen for three years despite the financial success of the giants and center plait. the company says workers earn up to $20. if there is a strike concessions would be handled em games would not be affected. the golden state warriors to the san antonio spurs wasn't the only loss they suffered. seth curry sprained his left ankle, he was able to finish the game. the night belonged to the spurs who won 102-92 and lead the series 2 games to 1. >> icing it, treatmentings and we'll see where he's at. -- treatment, and see where he's at. hopefully s it teph is ready. >> mark jackson calls this playoff series a heavy weight championship fight.

a bike ride or maybe even a drive, 48 in arvada: cool in parts of the north bay. 51 in walnut creek. 57 in oakland. we have 50 degrees half-moon bay and fog report aredded in half-moon bay. visibility 2, 2 1/2 miles in your neighborhood. we have a ridge of high pressure, a little hard to detect here. this is more notable. this is what will cool us down as we get into the workweek. a ridge of high pressure for the weekend and that will drive our temperatures up. the warm air associated with that and the syncing air associated with that ridge of high pressure, genie, again -- again, going to compress that marine layer and it is going to lead to a quicker burn off. i think we're going to see the sunshine a little bit sooner today and temperatures will soar with a weak on shore breeze at this point. 83 degrees in santa rosa for the afternoon. 80 in san rafael.

welcome back on this saturday morning, a live look at the oakland estuary, a great start. low clouds and fog will give away to mostly sunny skies: happening in trenton new jersey, a stand off is under way wean police and an armed way who officers say killed two people and is holding several children hostage. negotiations have lasted more than 12 hours and homes have been evacuated. the woman who stepped in to help bury tamerlan tsarnaev is defending her actions.

examine the issue. the task force in charge of determining the future of sandy hook elementary is recommending that the school be torn down. 20 children and 6 adults were shot and killed at the school in december. last night the newtown task force voted unanimously to demolish the building and build a new school on the same site. >> it was difficult to process, but i think that we ended up with the best long-term solution. >> the school board and voters still need to approve the plan. since the shooting, the 430 surviving students at sandy hook have been attending school in the neighboring town of monroe. in kentucky, a school bus carrying a high school softball team has overturned injuring players. 28 people were on board the bus when it ran off the right shoulder, swerved back to the other side of the road and then rolled on its shield. all 25 people were hurt. none of the injuries are life threatening. the cause of the crash is not known. the boy scouts of america

the offer from a local group that wants to keep the kings in sacramento. the move comes just days after a recommendation by the nba, board members to block a move t the full board of governors is expected to vote on the proposal next wednesday. and the san jose sharks are going to have to wait another day to find out who the opponents are for the western conference, after the detroit red wings beat the anaheim ducks in game last night. the sharks wrapped up their four game sweep against the canucks on tuesday. and the price of sending mail may be going up again. the u.s. post office board is looking to increase postage for all types of mail. the proposal comes after the postal service shelfed the plan to end saturday service because it had not have legal authority to do so. residents in redwood city may be facing a 30% increase in sewer and water rates. they would increase if the

council approves recommendation next month. if it passes rates would increase 9% a year through 2015. the average home would see an increase of 4 to $6 a year are. the city says it needs to charge higher rates to pay for $4.3 billion up grade to the hedge water system. people are spending more money on their moms. the national retail federation says consumers will spend an average of $168 for mother's day, up 11% from last year. typically the money goes towards flowers. mother's day tends to be the second busiest holiday for the most florist. they say they've been preparing for tomorrow for the past two weeks. >> we put on a much larger staff and we have another 30 drivers who work for us during that time. on an average day, we're doing about a thousand deliveries. >> most mother's say whether it's a balloon or a bouquet or a hand a written note, it is

we want to take you out to space because happening right now, two astronauts are conducting an emergency space walk outside the international space station. these are live pictures this morning that we're getting from that 7-day from -- from nasa. they're trying to repair an ammonia leak in the cooling system. it was discovered on thursday and the station commander says the 6 man crew isn't in danger because of the leak but they believe the problem needs to be

fixed right away, so they did this hastily, prepared for a space walk, which they don't like to do, but they are doing that this morning. as part of the repairs, the two space walkers are going to have to swap out a pump box on a solar panel and that supplies electricity to the station. if you wanted a one way ticket off of earth, you are good company, 78,000 people from are around the world have applied to go on a one way trip to mars, the possibility of the trip is through mars one. it's an organization aiming to put four people on the red planet by the year 2023. organizers say due to the physiological change in the human body after a stay on mars, there would be no coming back. if you would like to apply, applications will be accepted until august 31st. here you go. right here. >> i already submitted your application. i'm going to miss you so much. >> i will miss you. >> one way trip.

an antioch woman returns home to find a bullet hole in the window. it is damage connected to a fatal police shooting. welcome back to mornings on 2. i'm mike. >> and i'm claudine wong. it happened at 9 last night near highway 4. we're told that officers were swerving a search warrant when this happened, those antioch and concord police had units on the scene and it was a concord police officer who opened fire. alex savage is at the scene and he's going to have a live report coming up. organizers of the america's

cup will work with san francisco police and the coast guard to try to figure out what caused the fatal crash out on the bay. a salvage crew moved the damaged racing yacht out of the water and the sail was shredded from thursday's accident. workers transported it on a hangar. the catamaran will not sail again. police inspected the yacht and investigators say it is too early o to determine a cause, but some possibilities include design and structural flaws. the high-tech twin hole catamarans can go 35 a miles per hour, three times the speed of traditional boats. and it was changing direction and turned downwind when it flipped over. >> all we know is that the boat ended up upside down, capsized

broken in to many pieces. >> each racing team has two boats. armitas's second yacht is under construction and is scheduled to be finished next month. they will defer to investigators before deciding on safety changes to the america's cup festival. the other racing teams have canceled training to mourn the death of andrew simpson, the olympic medalist was trapped under water for 10 minutes after the catamaran capsized. it's unclear if he was tethered to the vessel. his wife and two sons accompanying him from england to the bay area so he could compete. fellow racers say simpson kept his life and accomplishments in perspective. >> he managed to spend time at home and sail with his kids. he's a role model l for all of us. >> he's the second trailer to

alex? >> reporter: well, good morning, investigators out here are still piecing together what appears to have been a deadly police shooting in the city. we aren't getting much information from police, but neighbors are saying that a man was shot and killed and that it all happened right here in the middle of buchanan road which is here in the city of antioch. in talking with antioch police, the bit of information we are getting is that this shooting actually involved concord police officers. it's unclear why they were here in the city of antioch. we'll e show you video from last night. the shooting happened around 9:00 last night. no one from the concord police department is saying anything about what happened, but one witness who lives close by says he heard a crash and a saw a man jump out of a pickup truck, running from officers. that witness didn't what took place next. he heard a series of gun shots at that point and saw this man's body lying in the street. >> it seemed unreal.

it seemed like a movie. i guess they just shot him or whatever. pop, pop, pop, pop. >> reporter: and it was a dangerous situation for neighbors on this particular street. one person e-mailed us these photos after one of the bullets that was fired came right through the window of her house. now, at this point we still don't know anything about this man who was shot and killed here last night. we don't know why officers opened fire. we don't know why he was running for officers or why he was wanted in the first place. i have been trying to speak with concord police at the scene throughout this morning trying to get more information, but at this point, ten hours after this officer involved shooting here in the city of antioch involving the concord police department, we are not receiving any details on exactly what took place. live this morning in antioch, alex savage, ktvu 2 news. ariel castro is being entered into a national data

se continues for a man suspected of killing his wife and two daughters inside their shasta county home. multiple police agencies are searching the area of humboldt county for 45-year-old shane miller. police believe he's heading to a cabin where several weapons might be stored. on tuesday, police say they received a 911 call from miller's house. when they arrived, they found the body of miller's wife and their 8 and 4-year-old daughters. police say they had all been shot multiple times. advertisements expected to spark controversy will be appearing on muni buses in san francisco. they're organized by a group called american muslims for palestine and they call for an end to billions of dollars of u.s. aid to israel. they will appear on muni buses for a month and following that it moves to other major american cities. if you haven't noticed, prices at the pump are going up and those numbers are expected to get higher. experts say the increase is due to problems at two refineries triplea reports a statewide

richmond. it happened about 4:00 p.m. yesterday as the man was driving along richmond parkway near hill top drive. the victim was air lifted to the hospital. investigators say a male passenger in the back of the victim's bmw fled the scene after the shooting. officers shut down the parkway to search for the gunman but did not find anyone. one of the first responders to the texas fertilizer plant explosion. brice reid was arrested. he admitted that a metal pipe and explosive devices found in a search of a home belonged to him. they were alerted by a resident. police say reid's arrest has not been tied to the deadly explosion that killed 14 people. police are considering the fertilizer plant explosion part of a criminal investigation. the state fire marshal's office said it had ruled out four possible causes. so far more than 400 people have been interviewed while

firefighters try to determine where it started. crews are cleaning up a mess left by a man who decided to take a bulldozer for a spin. barry was upset with the neighbors fences and new construction. one mobile home was pushed off its foundation and right into the house next door. >> i got a hysterical phone call from my mom saying there was a crazy man on a bulldozer. i came home to make sure her house was okay. >> deputies say swiegel flattened another home and a pup, and sat and waited for edenties to arrest him. -- waited for deputies to arrest him. no one was hurt during the incident. a strong earthquake injured at least 15 people. it was a magnitude 6.2 centered in the southern part of that country. it comes after a deadly earthquake in the same region last month which killed at least 37 people.

. two astronauts conducting an emergency space walk outside the space station. you are looking at live pictures brought to us by nasa. they have been at this two hours now trying to repair an ammonia leak in the station's cooling system. the commander says the six man crew isn't in danger, but they want to fix the problem and as part of the repairs, the two space walkers have to swap out a pump box on a solar panel that is supplying electricity to the station. in san jose, a big clean up is about to get under way. the goal, to wash away the city's graffiti. after a year of negotiations, caltrans and union pacific will start the operation monday. highway 101 will have a three day clean up with some lanes closed in both directions from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

deadly police shooting that happened late last night. i want to show you the scene out here. it unfolded on buchanan road, but you can see this is an active crime scene this morning. concord police have said nothing about the circumstances surrounding this shooting, but according to neighbors, a man was shot and killed by officers right here in the middle of the road. i want to show you what that scene looked like last night. here's video, it all unfolded at 9:00. according to a witness who lives nearby, he heard a car crash and a man jumped out of a pickup truck on the run from police officers here. that witness says he heard a series of gunshots and looked outside and saw a man's body lying in the middle of the street. it took place very quickly and it all happened right outside of his apartment. >> get down, and tell my kids to get down, and i heard gunshots, probably like 7 gunshots and we were pulled military style to the back, and felt like the bullets were

adeline streets investigators still having trouble identifying the victim. he didn't have any id on him. more than a dozen rounds were fired. some shots hit nearby cars and a liquor store and a home. no one is in custody. for the second time in three days, the city of oakland announced a new interim police chief. howard jordan abruptly retired citing health problems. assistant chief was named acting chief and toribio voluntarily stepped down was demoted to captain, and sean went was sworn in as the acting police chief. >> although my appointment may be interim, i pledge to not act as if it is. the city of oakland, i feel personally responsible for. >> the mayor says oakland is planning a nationwide search for a permanent replacement for chief jordan. city council members say it

help people fulfill the american dream. >> we have more responsible homeowners to help, folks who have never missed a mortgage payment but aren't allowed to refinance. working families who have done everything right but still owe more on their homes than they're worth. in this morning's weekly address, the president says the nation's housing market is recovering. he asks lawmakers to confirm mel watt leading the finance agency. he wants congress to pass legislation allowing homeowners to refinance. by doing so, he says many could save $3000 a year. san mat county's homeless county population is on the rise. a report by the counties human services agency, it's gone up 12% and most people are living in cars. the county's housing office says the long economic downturn and shortage in affordable housing is to it blame. they are spending $1.5 million to improve homeless shelters.

welcome back on this saturday morning, a live look there at downtown oakland where the clouds have are cleared in the last half hour. one of the fire captains who responded to the overturned america's cup catamaran is training over san francisco firefighters for the rescues in the bay and ocean, they were taking a class at ocean beach for a water rescue certification. captain sighs say the training is crucial and they have responded to 38 water rescues
