one of many heartbreaking scenes in oklahoma after one of the worse tornadoes in u.s. history. we have new information now about the death toll, and president obama is about to address the nation.

right now in washington, apple executives are testifying on capitol hill. there's congressman levette right there. they are expected to face tough questions about taxes. the day has finally come where we will learn if super bowl l will be be played at the new stadium in santa clara. we'll have a complete breakdown of that this morning. a bay area man vanishes after the beta breakers race. the phone call received. "mornings on 2" right now. well, good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. >> it's tuesday, may 21st. we continue to follow developing news out of oklahoma. in the past 30 minutes, medical examiners lowered the death

toll to 24. originally it was 51. but apparently in the chaos, some bodies were counted twice. right now, you see the damage left behind by the deadly tornadoes, the oklahoma city suburb of moore. right now, rescuers are searching for survivors. an elementary school was right in the path of that tornado that's been a major focus in the rescue efforts there. ktvu's alex savidge is in our newsroom to tell us more about the 100 people rescued overnight. alex? >> well, dave, yes. some signs of hope out of oklahoma. according to several reports, just over 100 people have been rescued from the rubble since this tornado touched down yesterday afternoon. a desperate search and rescue effort continuing in the town of moore, oklahoma. many first responders are focusing on plaza towers elementary school. it was demolished by this tornado. at least 75 students and staff members were inside when the tornado moved in, tore off the

school of a roof and brought down -- school's roof and brought down walls. there were tearful reunions between parents and their children. but there are still other children missing this morning. one 7-year-old girl, a student at the school, described what she did as the tornado closed in. >> the tornado went in and out and i was afraid, and i was hanging onto one of the desks. and i fell back and all of the dirt starts to get in my eyes and clothes. >> and this is what the massive tornado looked and sounded like as it moved across the suburbs of oklahoma city just about 3:00 yesterday afternoon. that storm was roughly a half- mile wide at times. entire neighborhoods were simply leveled. overnight, the oklahoma national guard moved in to help find victims of the storms. they searched through neighborhoods, using night- vision equipment. there was a moving seen as one

of the service members raised an american flag right in the middle of the debris. again, searchers hoping to find more survivors. just over 100 pulled from the debris. authorities believe the number of dead will continue to rise. again, as we told you earlier on this morning, the death toll has been revised. now, authorities in oklahoma, the medical examiner's office believe 24 confirmed dead. they believe some of the initial victims were counted twice. and so again, they do believe the death toll will continue to rise as we move throughout the day. we'll continue to monitor all of the reports coming out of oklahoma throughout the morning. alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> all right, alex. thank you. we'll keep following all of the developments of the story as they happen and we'll tell you incredible stories about survival. you can follow the latest updates at ktvu.com. time, 7:04. happening right now in washington, d.c., tim cook from

apple is on capitol hill. he's answering some tough questions from lawmakers about paying taxes. there's senator john mccain right there. live pictures inside the hearing room. the hearing started about 30 minutes ago. coming up at 7:15, the tax loophole apple is accused of using to avoid paying its fair share of taxes. a big announcement expected today back here at home at 11:00 this morning. nfl team owners will decide if the bay area or miami will host the super bowl in 2016, and the bay area right now looks like the front-runner. ktvu's janine de la vega joining us live. she's right outside levi stadium in santa clara. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. in two hours, a meeting is going to get underway in boston, where they are gonna vote on whether the super bowl will be held here in 2016. a lot of excitement is building. we're hearing reportedly that the san francisco mayor has invited the santa clara mayor

up to san francisco so that they can watch the decision on tv together. now, here's a breakdown of what's happening in boston this morning -- at 9:00 a.m., the super bowl bid committees for san francisco, miami and houston will make their pitches to the nfl owners on why their city should host the super bowl. at 10:30, the owners will vote by secret ballot and then they will vote between the looser and houston and then at 11:00 a.m., the nfl commissioners will announce the winners. san francisco is believed to be the favorite to win because the city has lobbied heavily. >> i think we have the best foot foot forward. we got an uplevel of excitement going on. i've heard nothing negative

people of oklahoma today. our gratitude is with the teachers who gave their all to shield their children with the neighbors, first responders and emergency personnel who raised to help as soon as the tornado passed, and with all of those, as darkness fell, searched for survivors through the night. as a nation, our full focus right now is on the urgent work of rescue and the hard work of recovery and rebuilding that lies ahead. yesterday, i spoke with governor fallin to make it clear to homians that they could have -- to oklahomaians that they would have all of the resources needed at their disposal. last night, i issued a disaster declaration to issue those resources, to support the governor's team in the immediate response and to offer direct assistance to folks who suffered loss. it just spoke with mayor lewis of oklahoma to ensure he's

getting everything he needs. i've met with secretary napolitano this morning and my homeland security terrorism adviser, lisa monaco to underscore that point that oklahoma needs to get everything that it needs right away. the fema administrator, craig fugate, is on his way to oklahoma as we speak. fema's staff was first deployed to oklahoma's first operation center on sunday, as the state was already facing down the first wave of deadly tornadoes. yesterday, fema activated urban search and rescue teams from texas, nebraska and tennessee to assist in the ongoing search and rescue efthe as and a mobile -- efforts and the mobile response units. so the people of moore should know that their country will remain on the ground that r

them, beside them -- there for them, beside them for as long as it takes. there are homes and schools to be rebuilt, businesses and hospitals to reopen, first responders to comfort and, of course, frightened children who will need our continued love and attention. there are empty spaces where there used to be living rooms and bedrooms and classrooms. and in time we're gonna need to refill those spaces with love and laughter and community. we don't yet know the foulings tent of the damage -- full extent of the damage from the storms. we don't both know the human and economic losses that may have occurred. we know that severe rumbling of weather, bad weather through much of the country, still continues, and we're also preparing for the hurricane season that he boo be -- that

begins next week. if there's hope to old onto not just in oklahoma but around the country, it's the knowledge of the good people there and -- in oklahoma are better prepared for this type of storm than most. and what they can be certain of is that americans, from every corner of this country, will be right there with them opening our homes, our hearts to those in need because we're a nation that stands with our fellow citizens as long as it takes. we've seen that spirit in joplin, in tuscaloosa, we saw that spirit in boston and breezy point, and that's what the people of oklahoma are gonna need from us right now. for those of you who want to help, you can go online right now to the american red cross, which is already on the ground in moore, already we've seen the university of oklahoma announce it will provide housing for displaced families. we've seen local churches and companies open their doors and their wallets and last night,

the people of joplin dispatched the team to help the people of moore. so for all of those who have been affected, we recognize that you face a long road ahead, in some cases, there will be enormous grief that has to be absorbed but you will not travel that path alone. your country will travel it with you fueled by our faith in the almighty and our faith in one another. so our prayers are with the people of oklahoma today and we'll back up those prayers are deeds for as long as it takes. thank you very much. >> as you just heard, president obama saying the people of oklahoma face a long road ahead but they will not be alone. he signed a disaster declaration for oklahoma that makes federal funding available for recovery efforts.

he has met with some cabinet sure oklahoma has all of the logistical support it needs. this is a story we'll continue to follow here on "mornings on 2" throughout the morning and, of course, on ktvu throughout the day. sal is back. he's gonna help you get to where you need to go. you are watch everything, sal. >> yeah, we are. everything is getting busier. traffic will be slow approaching the bay bridge toll plaza which has a 25 to 30- minute delay getting into san francisco with no major problems. also, the morning commute is going to be busy as you drive out to the high rise of the san mateo bridge and head out to the peninsula. speaking of the peninsula, we're looking at highway 101 getting there. 101 and 2 -- and 280 are off to a good start. the slay valley seems to be better than it normally is. 101 and 85 still have slow traffic northbound. let's go to steve. all right, sal. thank you. sunrise and what a change from 24 hours yesterday. yesterday was clear, clear, clear.

now we have high clouds, low clouds. the wind is cranked up. there will be a big drop on the temperatures, a good 15, 20 degrees for some. the system is working its way right there pushing in clouds, the higher clouds coming in this advance of it. a partly cloudy morning and mostly cloudy morning as parts of the system continue to dig in. 40s, 50s. 52 in san francisco. so temperatures starting to cool down and more of a westerly breeze. oakland, west-southwest, 12 in advance of the system, sfo 17. seen gusts to 29. westernic of the sunset district and -- western edge of the sunset district. severe weather is about ready to go crazy again from oklahoma city to dallas. this is really the area right now around dallas to the north and also the east later on. that's painted for severe weather today. things are very active. it's really early and things are kind of exploding there in the atmosphere.

for us, that's the system, a lot of rain, low levels, snow levels in the pacific northwest. we get the cool air and wind. windy, cooler, partly cloudy, a good, 15, 20-degree drop. the farther north, the bigger drop. santa rosa down about 17 to 20 degrees. not much change. i mean, even cooler on wednesday. then we'll level it off and it stays below average through the weekend. happening now we continue to follow the damage left behind by the deadly tornadoes in oklahoma. in the past hour, medical examiners lowered thdeath toll to 24. at first they said 51 people were killed. but authorities say in the chaos, they may have counted some of the victims twice. they are continuing to search the rubble and more victims may be found. meteorologists say it's very unusual for a tornado to track roughly the same path.

but this is not the first time that moore, oklahoma has been devastated by a powerful twister. back in 1999, another tornado ripped through the same community. ktvu reporter tom vacar covered the aftermath 14 years ago. here's what he found. >> reporter: the people on this block say this car belongs with this case. but they also say they have no idea who owns this truck but they are pretty sure it came from the sky. >> well, that tornado in 1999 had 300 coming up winds, killed -- 300-mile-an-hour winds and killed 40 people. the damage, $1.4 billion. on our facebook wall, viewers are sharing prayers and you can share your thoughts by going to our ktvu channel 2 facebook page. in our news, in washington, d.c., three top executives for apple going in front of a u.s. senate panel as kyla campbell tells us, senators are claiming

apple is moving billions of dollars overseas to avoid paying taxes. kyla? >> reporter: dave, senators say apple isn't the only company that uses offshore accounts to avoid paying more in u.s. taxes. but lawmakers say apple is the most egregious offender. this is a live look at the senate hearing. apple's ceo, tim cook, and two other executives will testify. they say that apple pays its fair share of, tas but senators, including carl levin, says apple used loops in the taxes to avoid paying taxes. in ireland, there's no workers and they say that apple chose ireland where the company negotiated a tax rate of less than 2%, much lower than the 35% tax rate. apple paid $6 billion in u.s. taxes last year. but lawmakers estimate the company owes another $9 billion.

>> the offload of taple's tax burden onto other taxpayers, particularly on the working families, small business, the lost tax revenue feeds a budget deficit. >> reporter: many republicans and president obama say they want to adjust the corporate tax pate, lower it to -- rate, lower it to make it more business friendly. apple executives said they will support the change they. they will be testifying shortly and i will tell you more next hour when i see. kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. >> here's part of the 17-page response apple prepared for the hearing. "apple has been a powerful engine for job creation in the u.s. apple estimates it's created or supported approximately 600,000 jobs in the united states. ." the former head of the irs heads to capitol hill today. former irs commissioner was in charge of the irs when agents were improperly targeting that

party groups. lawmakers want to know why he didn't tell congress about the targeting of the conservative groups, even after he was briefed. new information about the tucson, arizona shooting rampage two years ago. investigators will release more than 300 photos taken after the shootings. six people were killed and 13 others wounded, including gabrielle giffords. the photos include images of the gun used in the attack. the shooter was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences after pleading guilty in the case. today in san francisco, a plan to actually silence some of the loud street performers near san francisco's union square will be debated. ♪ darling you send me >> several hotels and stores in the area have complained about some of the street performers who sing and play for hours. under this plan, street performers could be fined if they are too loud. if approved, the performers can

lists. investigators say he used arts and crafts projects to keep the girls on the list inside during recess and that he inappropriately touched them. he's due back in court on june 5th. investigators say the national parks service response to the deadly hantavirus in yosemite's curry village was according to policy. design changes to cabins are being examined right now. so far, signature tent cabins, which were the source of the outbreak, have been removed from the village. investigators want the park to come up with a test-monitoring system. a rock climber has died after what's being called a freak accident. it happened on sunday morning as the man and his climbing partner were just 600 feet from the top of el capitan. park officials say 38-year-old mason robison of montana put a piece of gear into a crack in a large rock. then the rock dislodged and

severerred his rope. he fell 270 feet before caught. he died at the scene. his climbing partner was not hurt. sal is back. you are saying they are not having a good day in the south bay. >> well, some of the freeways, dave and tori, are getting slower. westbound 237 is one of them. you will see that and 101 is a little bit slow as you approach the valley. 280 is slowing down. the traffic on 880 is behind schedule because of an earlier crash. that's gone for a while here. the traffic on the livermore commute, very slow. we had a crash westbound 580 near the truck scales. that crash has been slowing things down as you drover -- as you drive over the altamont pass. through castro valley, not too bad. the and the toll plaza commute, about 30 minutes.

let's go to steve. some clouds are screaming down the coast. crescent city, ronald thompson said .06 up there in the rain gauge. first a very, very strong system for this time of year is digging into the pacific west in northern california. out ahead, we're getting the higher clouds. they are about ready to thin out. there's some sun there. a warm to hot on monday is being replaced with a big-time cooling. get a good look at that system digging in. this will bring low snow levels to parts of oregon if you are heading up 85. 60s and 70s. i think all the highs will be in the upper 60s or very low 70s all the way into friday maybe. but still below-average temperatures going into the weekend. a widespread destruction in moore, oklahoma after those deadly tornadoes. >> tornado went in and and i

it is 7:28. the search for survivors continues in an oklahoma city suburb where 24 people were killed in a tornado. in the past hour, medical examiners actually lowered the death toll. first they said 51 people were killed. but authorities say in the chaos, they may have counted some of the victims twice. now, rescuers have been walking through neighborhoods near- city, where yesterday's storm flattened home after home to see if they could hear any voices calling out from the rubble. there's certainly the chance there may be more victims left in all of that debris. now, we were hoping to have a live report from the area right now, but, in fact, there's lightning in that community. so the crew there we were gonna talk to pulled the plug and got

7:30. the bay area search will resume this morning for a missing man who disappeared after running in sunday's beta breakers race. ktvu's brian flores, he's live in ocean beach where family members and friends will be out there searching again. >> reporter: that's right, dave. good morning. we're in front of the beach chalet restaurant. this is the area where beau rasmussen was last seen. this is probably one of a handful of fliers that will be handed out, posted here this morning. they will be handed out this morning when friends and family search for him at 9:00 a.m. this morning. now rasmussen ran the beta breakers race on sunday. after the race around noon that day, he deseed -- he decided to break off from his friends where it's thought he went to swim in the ocean. i just got off the phone with rasmussen's friend. she says they became worried when he didn't show up at the renewable energy company he works at.

a stranger found his clothes, cell phone, credit cards and i.d. his friends believe he was by himself that day. the portland native moved to the bay area a couple of years ago, according to friends, friends who are very worried this morning. >> one of the people on our team that works with us, called and said i found a cell phone with a passport and credit cards. >> now, rasmussen is 6'2", 195 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. he was last seen wearing jeans and a maroon jersey. they've checked the hospitals. but no one matching his description has stepped up. we also understand his steppe mother is coming down from portland to -- his stepmother is coming down from portland to aid in the search. back to you. we know more about a man who fell off a roof during a

beta breakers party. david hamcy fell stories from the roof of a condo on fell street sunday afternoon hours after the big race. investigators say his death appears to be an accident and this is not a criminal case. 7:32. happening now, bay area football fans are keeping a close meeting on a meeting underway in boston the nfl owners are deciding if santa clara or miami will be the host city for the super bowl in 2016. ktvu's joe fonzi is live from boston. joe, what's happening at the meeting right now? >> reporter: the fog has just lifted in what was previously a gray day in boston. it's turning out to be a nice day. we're in the hotel here where all 32 nfl owners are meeting right to determine what city will host super bowls l and li. there are three metropolitan areas vying for this.

the bay area is against south florida for the first time. they would like to get that one, the bay area would, that's the golden area. they are making their presentation before the owners as is the one from south florida. they are kind of going back to back. the one area that does not get super bowl l will go against houston for super bowl -- for super bowl li. that will be decided here. the super bowls will be in the 49ers' new stadium which will be open for business. [no audio] >> reporter: obviously, the bay area people are considered a little bit of a favorite, kind of a front-runner for this, that's because of the fact that the folks in south florida just a couple of weeks ago voted down potential public funds that would help finance redevelopment for the stadium. so the bay area folks are considered right now a favorite. but it's kind of a waiting game. they are making the presentations.

advised if you are traveling in the direction. you might want to keep updates. i've seen projections up to 2500, 30000 feet. napa was 90. 75, down 15. a huge drop all associated with this low which looks like it wants to park itself and then hang out for the next evissen days or so. our temperatures will take a drop and settle in. 50s, and 60s. lower 60s out towards antioch and pittsburg. i've seen 61 to 62. west or southwest wind. the stronger gusts are along the coast. point reyes lighthouse around 50 miles an hour. even in san francisco i've seen gusts to 30 miles an hour. the severe weather yesterday is already well on its way today. you can see stretching from amarillo, the panhandle, near

[chanting] >> reporter: they walked off the jobs can at five university medical centers. a judge issued an injunction to staff certain units. but ucsf have had to cancel 150 surgeries today and tomorrow because of the strike. >> we've had canceled surgeries, canceled chemo cases, folks not able to get their radiation treatments and so as -- we're trying to work through all of that and get patients rescheduled back to work on thursday and back to

welcome back to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. we start with developing news from oklahoma. the search for survivors still going on in the oklahoma city suburb of moore. look at the devastation there. we're getting a better look at what's happening on the ground and the rescue workers dealing with all of this damage. but believe it or not, there's a small silver lining. about an hour and a half ago, medical examiners reduced the death toll to 24. seven of the victims, though,

were children. at first, we were saying 51 people were known to be dead. but authorities say in all of the chaos, they probably counted some of the victims twice. now, within the past hour, we also brought you live here on ktvu, president obama's news conference to the nation. he says he doesn't know the full extent of the damage in oklahoma but oklahoma needs to get everything it needs right away. our reporter, craig boswell, is live in moore, oklahoma right at the heart of the devastation. so what's happening on the ground where you are? >> reporter: dave, good morning to you. look, crews are still going through some of these buildings. in this particular neighborhood, it's not as frantic as in others where they are going through with hands or hammers or sledge hammers, whatever they can to make sure they've found anybody underneath that. severe weather still threatening. we're getting a lot of rain coming through. look, this ef-4 came through

and sat on the ground for about 40 minutes, cutting about a 20- mile swath of damage. a massive tornado, at times more than a mile wide raced through parts of oklahoma. two schools schools were in the twister's path, including towers plaza elementary school. rescuers worked to pull kids and staffers from the debris. one 7-year-old girl describes the moment the storm hit. >> tornado went in and out -- i was hanging onto one of the desks and then i fell back and then all of the dust starts to get in my eyes and clothes. >> reporter: president obama spoke with oklahoma's governor, declaring a major disaster and ordering federal aid. >> the president left us a phone number to call and medical assistance if we need those things. >> reporter: search and rescue efforts rent on through the

nicrews raced to find anybody who might be buried underneath debris. >> all of the children were in the main hallway, where they were supposed to be during their tornado drills, and the roof collapsed on top of them and they -- they suspect waterlines broke and the children drowned because they couldn't get up from the debris. >> reporter: let me show you -- this is -- this is the ground view of the hospital. it's a two-story hospital. it's not two stories anymore. fortunately, all of the patients, all of the employees all escaped this hospital and have moved on to other locations. unfortunately, those that were injured here could not get here to get quick treatment. they were taken to other hospitals. some families here have put tents in front of their houses over to my right just to stay put until they decide what to do next. dave? >> all right.

reporter craig boswell, live from moore, oklahoma. thank you. back here at home in san jose, police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian. it happened around 9:30 on north white road at madeline near james lick high school. the police say the man was walking close to or in the crosswalk when he was hit. he died at the scene. police think he was a man in hisict asks. they say the -- in his 60s. they say the man involved is coop it raking with the investigation -- cooperating with the investigation. a san pablo woman could face charges after this crash. police say the woman was driving a suburban with five other family members inside, including a 5-year-old, zanny jackson. the suv rolled over after swerving to avoid another car. the child died. le police say the child was not -- the police say the child was

not buckled. part of an effort to combat a recent increase in gun violence. the most recent victim is 16- year-old jose quinonez shot and killed on sunday outside of his home. two of his friends, ages 15 and 16, were hurt. police say much of the violence stems from a livelery -- a livelery in -- a rivalry in one one gang. >> violence has risen to a level where we really have to make a concerted effort and start with our own department. >> in the meantime, police are examining video from a police cruiser camera. they say the video may contain images of a silver or white car driven by the suspect in the deadly shooting. today, the san francisco airport commission will vote on a ten-year project at sfo. if aeverybody proked, the $4 billion -- if approved, the $4

what city will host super bowl li. they are meeting now. jed york here. the bay area is vying against south florida to determine who will host super bowls l and then the area that does not get that bid will go against the city of houston for super bowl li. the bay area is considered a front-runner. the reason, a few weeks ago, the voters in south florida voted down a measure that would have potentially provided money to renovate that stadium and because they voted that money down the bay area is considered a front-runner to be in contention for super bowl l. if they don't get that bid, they will vote on li. right now, it's a little bit of a waiting game.

the contingents for all three of those cities are making their presentations for the nfl and then the decision expected to be announced at 3:00 eastern time, noon bay area time. so we'll be on top of that. we'll have reports for you at 5:00 and 6:00. but then the last time that the bay area hosted the super bowl and the only other previous time was at stanford stadium in january of '8 a. everybody knows the economic impact that a super bowl brings to the area. the bay area hoping very much if it does not get super bowl l, it will get super bowl -- super bowl 51. back to you. 8:33. friends and family of a man who went missing after the beta breakers are coming in from out of state to search for him.

brian flores is live at ocean beach. brian just spoke with the man's stepmother and i imagine fees's feeling pretty -- she's feeling pretty terrible about this. >> reporter: no question. we're live in ocean beach in front of the restaurant where he was last seen. a lot of his family and friends and coworkers will be here. about 25 or 30 will be here to continue to search for 27-year- old beau rasmussen who went missing on sunday after the beta breakers race. want to bring in beau's stepmother. it has to be a very emotional 48 hours. >> it has been. it's been really emotional. we just want beau back. >> reporter: tell us the last time you heard from beau, the last time he contacted you. >> well, beau and i talk often. he called me on mother's day and we had a great conversation and the last time he was seen was sunday at noon and i texted

him that night. >> reporter: is it unusual for him to come swimming here? >> no. that's something he would normally do. he's a big, strong day, he works out every day. he's a hiker and that's not unusual to go for a swim after doing the beta breakers. >> reporter: how is his father holding up? >> he's doing his best. he's back there with beau's brothers who are 5 and 9 and who really need their brother back. >> reporter: i know 25, 30 of you will be here handing on the fliers. what will you be doing today? >> we have about a thousand fliers printed. a lot of people coming in. we have people flying in from portland. the people who beau work with have been so incredible, they

good morning, emily. >> reporter: tori, good morning to you. it is a difficult day for people who are looking to find survivors not just because it's been almost 24 hours since that tornado rolled through but also the physical conditions here are deteriorating. it's cold and windy. it's rain, it's been thundering and lightning all morning. these are the kind people are going through. we looked at this early this morning and thought what could this have been? there was a bowling ball that was out in the middle of those lanes. this was a 40-lane bowling alley and it's just a bunch of wooded metal right now. an urban rescue team that came from nebraska, a couple of hours ago, they were with their dogs and going all around the perimeter crawling up on the metal trying to see if there was anyone trapped inside. it turned out there was not. but now they are repeating the

same exercise at a medical center. just a few hundred yards in this direction. they've got that same task to do at dozens, if not hundreds of building sites all across this area. it shows enormity of what they are up against today. tori? >> do we have any word on how many are injured at this point? >> reporter: you know, the last -- the last account that we had which was early this morning was about 145 injured. we've not heard a revised number. but there was a number that came out today that is giving some some -- some hope to people. 101 people according to the high pressure highway patrol have been rescue -- according to the highway patrol have been rescued. 101 who are safely pulled from the destruction. that's a number giving people hope. that's why we're seeing the rescue effort continuing, very

on rohnert park expressway just as the truck was making a left turn. witnesses say the driver did not realize he hit the boy. the driver returned to the scene after being flagged down. the boy was not seriously hurt. we now have a picture of a san jose high school student who was killed while riding his bike to school yesterday morning. he's been identified as 15-year- old andy martinez. newschopper2 flew over the crash scene yesterday morning at east capital expressway and silver creek road. investigators say the sophomore was a block away from the silver creek campus when a car hit and killed him. the driverp toed immediately and had -- the driver stopped immediately and is cooperating with police. the san jose sharks hope for a comeback tonight in game 4 of the nhl playoffs against the l.a. kings. the kings lead the series root now by one game in the best of seven series. the sharks won saturday in --

tornadoes. >> according to several reports. 100 people have been rescued. the hope remains high that more will be found. this tornado barreled through two elementary schools. plaza was demolished. at least 75 students and staff members were inside. the school's roof was torn off, walls collapsed. rescuers were able to pull survivors, though, from the rubble of that school.

and those were the tearful reunions that followed. frantic parents raced to the school after the storm looking for their children. some parents, though, waited into the night with no words on their kids. authorities say the students from that school among the dead. president obama addressed the country offering support to a community that was devastated by this tornado. >> it's our -- our prayers are with the people of oklahoma today. our gratitude is with the teachers who gave their all to shield the children, with the neighbors, first responders and emergency personnel who raced to help as soon as the tornado passed. >> the president has issued a disaster declaration for oklahoma, meaning federal resources will be rushed to the area. that tornado was roughly a half- mile wide at times. it elf willed entire neighborhoods -- it leveeighrho

the national weather service calls this an ef-4 tornado. that's the second most powerful type of storm. as we first told you at 6:00 this morning, oklahoma's medical examiner's office has, again, revised the number of dead. it confirms at least 24 people were killed by the tornado. nine of them children. authorities initially believed 51 people had died but it turns out some of those victims may have been counted twice. i'm alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alex. urban search-and-rescue teams in the bay area are on stands about by in case they -- standby in case they get a call to help. fema had deployed type 1 search- and-rescue task forces from states surrounding oklahoma. those teams include structural engineers and medics equipped with listening devices and cameras to look for voids in collapsed buildings for survivors. >> this is the first time that
