it will be sunny today. mostly sunny unless you are up toward the north. 60s and 70s. breezy to windy. steve, good morning. this is highway 4 coming up to the westbound grade. also the morning commute continues to look good. northbound 101 san jose some slowing there. let's go back to the desk. we are starting with developing news from santa clara county. a suspicious man was seen near the pg&e substation. that was the scene a couple hours ago. there were apparent acts of sabotage at that very same substation last month. someone cut fiberoptic cables at the plant last month. knocking out 911 service. janine de la vega is there. she is going to give us a live update on what is going on at that plant coming up sat 6:30. we are still following breaking news coming in from

orlando, florida. that is where fbi agents shot and killed a friend a boston marathon bombing suspect tamerlan tsarnaev. friends are saying the man that was shot was alabamaer home. friends say the fbi is trying to question them about the boston marathon bombings but they say he was not involved. >> they are pushing him saying don't leave don't leave. we had a feeling worst case scenario that something like that was going to happen. our cameras have already caught problems because of the wind. tara moriarty is along the great highway this morning. tara.

>> this is the southbound lane. you can barely make out the white lines that run through the middle of it. these drifts are really high. they come up over my waist. we wanted to show you something here. what we have is a parking lot. you can barely tell it's a parking lot. it looks more like a beach. at their strongest they were at 35-40 miles an hour. this morning in berkeley some heavy limbs fell on the 1800 block of sal castaneda street. high winds toppled a 75-foot tree that snagged some wires. it happened on northern avenue in mill valley. the tree landed on top of a car. about 360 customers were without power until 3:30 this morning. public works crews had to cut the tree up into pieces and haul it away.

a high wind advisory was in effect for several bay area bridges last night including the bay bridge but that was canceled. back here live the southbound lane from lincoln way all the way to lake merced again is shut down. we're live in san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. now to our continuing coverage of the disaster in oklahoma. search and rescue efforts are coming to an end. emergency personnel believe there are no more survivors. 2 people were killed including nine children. the national weather service had upgraded the intensity of the tornado to an ef-5. that is the strongest possible with winds measuring more than 200 miles an hour. >> i was praying to god. honestly i thought i wasn't going to see tomorrow. i was like i don't want to die today. >> the tornado stretched 1.3

trying to get. >> reporter: it appears they were after some computers. i want to show you. this is the high school. lots of residential homes which means lots of neighbors. and neighbors apparently called police when they saw the suspicious activity around the high school. our crews saw the police activity and this is what they shot. police continue to search the area. it was early this morning. there were two suspects seen breaking into the high school. neighbors called 911. police did arrest one suspect. they apparently tackled him in the yard of one woman. ktvu talked to her this morning. >> noise in the back. i am sleeping.

of the irs division she is due to testify at a congressional hearing investigating the irs scandal. coming up at 6:15 what we may not know from lois learner. right now it's 6:07. commute could be getting a little busier. let's check in with sal. >> it is a little bit. we are getting more slow traffic there. we're getting more slow traffic in contra costa. the metering lights have been going on pretty consistently now. they used to wait until 6:15 to do it but the traffic is busy so if they have to turn them on just after 6:00 there is a delay of 15-20 minutes before you make it on to the bridge. and this morning's commute has been okay if you are driving on interstate 880. a little bit windy as steve has been mentioning.

welcome back. time now 6:13. some conservative groups are protesting harvey milk day honoring the first openingly gay lawmaker. one is running radio ads urging parents to boycott this day by keeping their kids home from school. theseveral events honoring harvey milk will be held around the bay area today. there is free admission to the glbt history museum in san francisco. daniel niccolta will speak at a reading on books inc on market street. that is tonight at 7:30. he became the first openingly gay legislature when he won a seat in 1977. he was assassinated a year later. the white house is honoring

ten lgbt officials today. john laird is currently serving as california secretary of natural resources. laird became one of the first openingly gay mayor's in the nation when he was elected mayor of santa cruz back in 1983. he also served in the state legislature before being opponented to his current position. jackie spear and the rest of the u.s. house oversight committee will question the woman in charge of the irs tax exempt position. but as kyla campbell reports learner's attorney say there is is no guarantee she will testify. kyla. >> reporter: her attorney says she must testify before the house over sight immediate but we have will -- but so far the irs and inspector general say

yesterday. it was a really unusual discovery for the police chief of richmond. he stepped out of a restaurant and into a pile of money. coming up at6:25 his reaction to the cash and what the owner of it has to do to claim it. facebook has four adorable new friends. a fox and her three babies. the family has taken up a home on the menlo park campus. the mother has been there for about a year. it wasn't until recently that her three babies were spotted. the foxes even have their own facebook page. they have 11,000 likes so far. the company has met with the fish and wildlife department. the plan is to leave the foxes where they are unless they bother employees or vice versa. i put a link to their page on my facebook page. >> and you can't have one, pam. not yet. >> all right. time now 6:18. it's time for sal. he's got bart delays in oakland. what happened? >> yeah there was a little bit of police activity. police conducted an action but

technologies in capitola. they created a microchip that is a wireless controller. it triggers an alarm on the gun owners cell phone if someone tries to steal that gun. the owner can punch a button. it automatically disables the gun. it could cost about $50 at first. there is $12 for a yearly subscription. richmond police chief is hoping to reunit someone with their lost stack of cash. now this police evidence envelope is full of money. last night chief chris magnus was leaving a restaurant on san pablo avenue when he saw the money blowing around on the sidewalk. he started to pick it up and then he noticed a wallet with even more money in it but no id. >> it was just an unexpected thing for me to come across that kind of currency flying around. first you think you won the lottery and then you realize there is a process that has to be followed. >> the undisclosed amount of money is at the richmond police

toppled a 75-foot tree. that happened on northern avenue in mill valley. the tree landing on top of a car about 360 people were without power until 3:30 this morning. in berkeley some heavy limbs fell on the 1800 block of sacramento street snagging some wire there is. the branches hit a white van damaging the food and crews were busy removing the limbs but luckily no one's power was effected. the high wind advisory we had in effect for several bay area bridges this morning, it was canceled around 4:15 this morning. so no longer in effect but it is still very windy and very chilly. so make sure you bundle up this morning. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. firefighters put out a big suv fire in oakland over night. we have this amazing video. this happened on 86th avenue in oakland about 3:30 this morning. now no one was inside that car.

the fire likely originated in the engine compartment but police are still trying to figure out how that happened. in over night news police are searching for the gunman responsible for a terrifying shooting. it happened late last night on virginia avenue. more than 20 shots were fired at a car parked on the street. a man inside the car was wounded. his female passenger was not hurt. there is no word yet of a possible motive. san francisco police have arrested one man and searching for another after a burglary at a private high school. police madeth arrest after getting a call from a neighbor -- police made the arrest after getting a call from a neighbor this morning. police say they may have been trying to steal more than a dozen computers. new this morning just hours ago a suspicious man spotted near a pg&e substation in santa clara county. there were apparent acts of sabotage at that very same plant last month. ktvu janine de la vega janing

us live. she has all the details. >> things have come downed compared to -- security guards are keeping their eyes opened. they are on heightened alert. that is because a suspicious man was seen here at the substation at around 3:00 this morning. sheriffs deputies are here now at the substation because we understand that they did aid in a search for that man. security guards at pg&e spotted a white man in his 20s with a goatee wearing all black clothing. across from the transformer area they shined his. security has already been tightened. police say someone broke into the fire station iring shots if they also cut cable lines which knocked out 911 to gilroy and other counties. the person speedometer for that attack has not been caught. there is still a $250,000 reto

deeper into their pockets. san francisco is considering adding another surge charge to tickets. brian flores is at at & t park to decide where that proposed fee will go. >> reporter: thousands of people take muni every single day and thousands attend major concerts and attend giants gamers here. scott weiner hopes to bank on that and says his proposal could be a win-win. the money generated would go toward muni which weiner says is in bad need of upgrades. weiner says he's looking at the future noting the way the subway system is functioning is at a breaking point. there is even greater concern that to pub transportation may not meet the need if and when the new warriors arena is built. but for right now they will

study the economic impact of the proposal. so the supervisor asked the city to study just that. now we have calls into supervisor's weiner's office and hope to have comments coming up on mornings on 2. we are live in san francisco i'm brian flores ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning the boy scouts tackle head on the issue of gay rights. the scouts kick off their annual meeting near dallas and they will vote on a proposal to allow openingly gay members. conservatives say would under mine the traditions of the boy scouts. gay rights welcome the proposed change. no matter the outcome though, the boy scouts are still barring gays from the leadership roles. time is 6:47. >> the former new york congressman who resigned in the middle of a tweeting scandal is now running for mayor of new

york city. >> i made big mistakes and i know i let a lot of people down but i also won tough lessons. i'm running for mayor because i've been fighting for e middle class. >> that is anthony weiner. he made his candidacy official with this youtube video asking voters for a second chance. he resigned from his congressional office after graphic photos he isn't to a female twitter follower went public. in los angeles there is a winner for the new mayor of los angeles. that is eric garcetti. he won earlier and wendy called and conceded that he did win. the two had worked together on the l.a. city council. georgia setty is due to take office in a month.

let's move along and take a look at the commute on 237 westbound. you can see traffic is moving along okay if you are driving to zhanger road. it slows down a little bit. also this morning's commute is not all that bad if you are driving on 880 southbound the delay between these two points is 16 minutes from 238 to mallory avenue. that is the travel time there. the traffic time. if you're driving to the bay bridge toll plaza, it's a 15 minute delay. now back to steve. sal, thank you. our pattern changed. it took about four months but this situation looks like it's on hold here for awhile. we'll see forecast models are in sink with that. today it's sunny and breezy. it's been a cool morning.
