elizabeth butler came to this home looking for 35-year-old jeremy goulet on a sex offense. he opened his door and opened fire. >> within 3 seconds jeremy goulet fired 5 rounds at the two officers. >> he fired point blank not before taking off with his body armor and weapons. jeremy goulet fired 9 rounds at the two police officers. >> four witnesses saw jeremy goulet shoot with both weapons. >> reporter: this is where the afternoon of terror came to an end. four stepped in before jeremy goulet killed anyone else. >> these officers were the thin blue line that stood between this individual and our community on that day. >> reporter: none of the hireoes -- heroes wanted their

a jury convicted a man on rape and kidnapping 15 years after the crime was committed. he was found guilty of raping and kidnapping two high school students in 1998. they were heading back to campus after lunch when they were raped. investigators say they found him through dna evidence. he is facing 57 years to life in prison and will be sentenced next month. the message from police is simple, pay attention. new at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's eric rasmussen is live where police delivered that message in person there. eric? >> reporter: navigating maybeth avenue here -- 19th avenue here is difficult enough. >> reporter: whether it is a phone, food, or a little bit of
