they are steep but they are is much steeper. this is almost vertical. tough to fight fires in this area. they are doing water dumps. setting back fires. it is a tough fire to fight because the terrain is brutal. the fires start in the valleys and work their way to the top. you can see this fire to the right. the winds, the wind advisory is in effect. winds 25 miles per hour. maybe 30 on the gusts. humidities aren't that low, 30%. that is not low for this area. 85 degrees. and look at the wind directions, winds coming off of the water. so it is not a horrible weather condition. it is horrible terrain. again, near santa clurita. in -- santa clarita. the red flag warning warning is

for solano county. what we are looking at is the potential for strong winds out of the north in the bay area. big fire danger in southern california. our fire danger on the increase into the next 24 hours. so when i come back we will show you how hot it will get, because things will heat up and we will stay on the fire as well. >> thank you. a police officer is being hailed as a hero tonight after helping to save the life of a baby. ktvu's christien kafton is live. did the police officer say he was just doing his job? >> reporter: that is it. i spoke with him at the police department an hour and a half go. he said he was doing what any other officer he would have done. a baby stopped breathing at a daycare center. he rushed to the scene. he says when he arrived the

women running the daycare center were already giving her cpr in this home. that is when he stepped in. >> i just kind of took over. started doing chest compressions. which is what we are taught to do. chest compressions. i did that for probably 20, 30 seconds and then i heard the baby gasp. >> reporter: that was a wonderful sound, he says the girl began breathing and paramedics rushed her to the hospital. neither the police or the daycare center are releasing her name. the baby is doing well. >> we are still in shock. still, you know, thinking about it but the baby is fine. back home. the parents are fine. that is the most important thing. >> reporter: police tell me the daycare center seems to have done everything right and the

children there were well cared for. no word on how or why the girl stopped breathing but there is no criminal investigation. the take home message is to take cpr classes and pay attention in the classes. those classes save lives. live, christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 > a 19-year-old man w and killed this morning as he waited for a ride to work. officers found the victim just before 5:30 a.m. this morning. officials canceled school for the day. relatives identified the victim. an uncle said he was not in a gang but he heard he had an encounter recently with another group of young people. >> like a little argument and then my sister said the other guy said he was going to get him. >> police say no arrests have

been made. today's killing marks the 20th homicide this year. the california highway patrol is trying to figure out what caused a chain reaction crash today. the crash happened before noon on interstate 80 near the cherry glen road exit. the chp says a car crashed into a caltrans truck parked on the shoulder. a woman inside the car was killed. the chp hasn't named the woman. the collision blocked the three left lanes for two hours, backing up traffic for 7 miles. judge arraigned a man on charges related to a deadly car accident on monday. 25-year-old paul diaz is set to enter a plea june 13 to three counts of vehicular manslaughter. police say he was driving this car which was cut in half due to the force of the crash. his girlfriend and two others were killed. the judge raised the bail to a

million dollars. new at 6:00 p.m. the ripen cutting -- ribbon cutting is drawing big names. ktvu's consumer editor tom vacar is live where a building is making history for what is happening inside and for the structure itself. tom? >> reporter: it is easy to build pollution free technology in new buildings but take a look what you can do with an old one like this. >> reporter: this renovated building is the nation's first commercial building reto fitted to meet standards. it consumes no more energy for what it produces and emits no carbon emissions. many buildings can be retro fitted. >> local climate. the existing facility. as well as the design team.

polluters and that is a new industry with many jobs. tom vacar, ktvu channel 2 news. the state agency in charge of toxic cline up failed to build mage -- bill major companies after cleaning up. some of the $185 million in charges go back more than 25 years. the largest debt, 9.4 million was for a clean up of a company in contra costa county. they say pg&e owes $60,000 and chevron owes 63,000. they set up a team to try to collect the charges. drivers of tesla will soon have more places to charge. they have six super charger stations like this one. the company says it will triple that number by the end of next month in california and other states. eventually they will be able to drive across the country using

its stations. hundreds of veterans came to the colosseum for a job fair. 40 companies and government agencies set up booths with information and applications for veterans. the recruit organization says the fair offers national, regional and local job opportunities as well as entrepreneurial and educational information. >> a lot of people want to help veterans because they feel it is the right thing to do. we understand the value they bring a. >> we want to make -- they bring. >> we want to make networks. >> some took a break from job hunting to meet a former pro wrestler, bill goldburg. woman who was abandon at birth was reunited with the woman who found her. she was 24 hours old when she was placed into a car, parked

in oakland with a strange sequence of events here. >> reporter: neighbors say someone came and stole the marijuana once police and fire were gone. police say they couldn't take the marijuana plants because they didn't know if they were part of an illegal operation. >> reporter: this is what firefighters discovered when they responded to a small fire at this warehouse this morning. 65-70 marijuana plants. now they are gone. thieves broke into the building and stole the marijuana after police boarded up a doorway and cleared the scene without removing the scenes. >> only put two nails in the boarding. >> reporter: easy to get in? >> not even long nails. >> he said he didn't know who the pot belonged to. he works here. >> it was scary. >> neighbors say it didn't take

the fire is burning near homes and power lines and the terrain is steep and rugged. the fire started about 3:30 p.m. this afternoon. lot of smoke in the rd on how started. new at 6:00 p.m. teens got into trouble for trying to capture a memory. ktvu's mike mibach is live at kelly park with why clothes led to a confrontation with a ranger at that park. mike? >> reporter: that's right. tuxes and gowns, that is part of the story. they pull up here, they pay the entrance fee to park. they have one goal, to take that picture that they would remember forever. once they got inside, that is when the story started to turn. >> reporter: lunchtime at san jose's lincoln high school. where teenage love is in the

air. the dance was saturday but before they took to the floor -- >> we wanted to take pictures because it is a nice place. >> reporter: and peaceful. with ducks. fountains. fish. as soon as they pulled out their phones to snap a photo in the city park a park ranger said it was time to go. >> she was being pushy. >> reporter: pushy because they did not have the permit required to take a planned photo. asked how much? $100. >> we were like i don't want to pay. we were annoyed. it was frustrating. we just wanted to take pictures. >> it is a public park, right? >> reporter: not quite. >> the permit is required. >> reporter: he says the ranger acted appropriately.

>> if you come here, dressed in a tux and dressed for a wedding, or, you know, prom, it is required. >> reporter: despite not having the permit they said in the end the ranger gracefully turned her back. >> she was like i am just going to pretend i don't see anything, just stay off the grass. >> reporter: because of this story he will work with school districts trying to offer a discount for the students. mike mibach, ktvu channel 2 news. a group says an effort to pull the boy scouts tax exempt status could have far reaching effects. it does not permit openly gay adults. supporters say it is discrimination but opponents say if a bill was passed it could be applied to churches

and other groups. they are closing their healthcares in half moon bay tomorrow. the parent company coca-cola is shutting down the facility. the healthcares will move where their main production facility is located. 30 employees will be transferred or laid off. time for prized pigs and conten candy -- cotton candy with the opening of the contra costa county fire. california, it is a wind advisory. the fire is in steep terrain. the hills around here are kind of steep but these are more abrupt and difficult to fight. you can see that. see how steep that is. they have a natural fire break along the top of the li. you are not seeing a lot of firefighters on it ground, they are getting out of the way and doing water drops. it has winds blowing 30 miles per hour. they will try to get this to burn itself out in an area where there is no homes. the fire continues to grow. we will follow this. see how it hits the ridge line? these things burn up to the ridge line and burn out. low brush, chaparral. some oak. low, dry brush. for the bay area, a warm up.

that is why the red flag warning has gone into effect or will go into effect tomorrow for the solano county area. that includes vacaville, fairfield. that is induced because the winds will pick up. out of the north. it will get warm. some places hot on saturday. but what is triggering the flag develop over night, tomorrow night into saturday morning. so the forecast high tomorrow, warmer. 80s where there were 70s. you will find temperatures in the low 90s friday. saturday, numbers come up 5, 6 degrees. warming up. there is the red flag warning. the reason for that. into the weekend, high pressure establishes itself. fog is not a player. winds will be pushing off shore, i don't think we will see coastal fog. that is how you know it will be
