collided. at this moment i haven't had any reports of injuries. what this means there is damage to the third rail at four different sections that will need to be repaired immediately. we do have service in the transbay 2. all trains have to share one track. we are single tracking through the transbay two in order to repair the damage. >> okay so we expect a big impact from this. again just to summarize this is a damage in the eastbound direction. so every train needs to be on one track single tracking through. both directions. slowing thicks down considerably. we know that when there have been problems people try to get in their cars and that causes trouble on the roads. how to get around it, that will be tough trying to get in and out of here. sal castaneda will be watching this all day long. at this point some people say the best advice is if you can stay home today is stay home

desk. >> we will continue to follow this breaking story throughout the morning and don't forget any time of day you can get updates on our website at ktvu.com. and also right to your smart phone mobile. we're also following breaking news out of san francisco where restaurant was destroyed. two other buildings badly damaged by an overnight fire. tara moriarty is there in san francisco with more on the challenges firefighters face to put this out. tara. >> reporter: crews left the scene awhile ago. we are here where a french restaurant has gone up in flames. you can see the rubble out there. cries say the flames were going pretty strong when they arrived. this was a two-alarm fire so about two dozen crews were here. and there are two other buildings that were destroyed. one of them is an apartment building. we understand some people will

not be able to get back in. this fire comes with a hefty priesting $1 point -- price tag $1.5 million worth of damage. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. we have details on the latest response to the city's violent crime. police enforced a youth curfew for the first time in years. the one night curfew began at 11:00 last night and wrapped up a few hours later. they were looking for any teenager out alone on the street. >> we don't really need anybody under the age of 18 out on the streets at night. >> the youth curfew comes after five deaths and more than 50 assaults this year. many of them gang related. the most recent deadly crime

took place on may 19th when a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed while sitting in a car with friends. you can expect more offices on the street in san jose. special operations, swat, and gang units will all take part. an elementary man was shot and killed outside of an elementary school yesterday morning. they will also focus on gang neighborhoods and their beats. san francisco police are investigates the stabbing of two men. at 2:00 a.m. the hen were stabbed on 18th and valencia streets right in front of a pizza restaurant. they were with a group of friends who tried to take them to a hospital and ended up about a mile away on 16th and carolina streets. that is where they called police. the two victims were taken to san francisco general. police are questioning the people they were with. time is 4:34.

the search will resume in the south bay for a missing man who suffers from dementia. james was last seen yesterday morning near his home on santa teresa drive. he is six feet tall. he was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, and brown slippers. he is unable to talk and reportedly shuffles when he walks. so keep an eye out for him. also new information this morning federal agents consider a texas man a person of interest in a ricin scare. if they searched his home. his wife called police after spotting a container with a strange material in the refrigerator. she also discovered internet searches for ricen on the farm -- ricin on the family computer. wild weather continues in the mid west after another

tornado touched down in oklahoma. the national weather service says the latest twister hit the town of broken arrow late last night causing major damage to homes and businesses. so far no injuries have been reported from the storm. it was a different story in arkansas where a tornado touched down injuring nine people. this is a look look at a home in eden. tornado's tornado appeared to be far less powerful than those in meromes where 24 people were killed. more severe weather expected today. z 4:36. a vallejo man is in jail after painting a crosswalk on a street known for accidents. friends say it was hoping it would get drivers to slow down.

but the painted crosswalk is considered felony vandalism some he was arrested and being held on $15,000 bail. >> if everybody went out there and decide the i need a crosswalk in front of my residence, we would have them everywhere. there has to be a rule of law here. >> cal tran has sandblasted away the the hand painted crosswalk. next they plan on grinding down that intersection and repaving it. also this morning high speed rail opponents will ask a sacramento judge to put a stop to the project. the former chairman of the project will lead the group arguing all construction plans should be put on hold. he says the project has doubled in costs since voters approved it in 2009 and ridership estimates have dropped. the high speed rail project is already a year behind schedule. now 4:37. we want to go back over to sal. if you are just waking up and joining us, big problem for the

morning commute. effecting bart but people on the roads as well. >> that is right bart has damage to the third rail inside the transbay 2. that means that one of the tracks is not usable this morning. bart will be single tracking inside the transbay 2 between oakland -- between west oakland station and embarcadero. bart system will still be returning it will be way behind. if you want to get on bart you should get on early or if you decide you want to stay home and work from home, that will be a good idea. or get out on the roads early. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza. it's still nice and light although we might see people getting there early and spreading out the commute. this could turn into one of the things everyone hears about it and they will make adjustments. we'll see what happens and how early the bay bridge toll plaza gets busy. san jose happily far away from this. now back to steve.

fbi agents are not adding up. the fbi says ibragim admitted to being involved with one of the boston bombing suspects before attacking an agent. yesterday a state appeals court scrapped the state's latest thee that injection procedures. that means california has to go back to the drawing board. there are 725 inmates at san quintin's death row. more companies are hiring here in the bay area but more young people are having a hard time finding work. it's about 25% among teenagers and young adults. the reason they say older

workers are reenters the work force with more experience. >> we have so many youth and adults competing for the same jobs. even at the fast food retail sales associate positions. >> a survey found 57% of retirees want at least a bart time job. the best advice for young people is be persistent and work on their communication skills. california's minimum wage could be going up in six years. they passed the bill that would increase to $8.25. by 2016 it will be up to $9.25 and adjusted for inflation after that. minimum wage has not kept pace with the rising cost of living. but businesses dealing with the cost of health care reforms can't afford to pay those higher wages. this is the first week of operations for an alternative to muni on one bus route.

leap transit runs on the same streets as muni's exline. it only runs during commute hours but its buses offer leather seats and wi-fi for $6 payable through an iphone app. >> san francisco has been growing a lot. muni is over capacity on a lot of computer routes. we have set out to try to develop the best commuting experience possible. >> more than 1100 people have signed up for leap transit and they are looking to expand two other muni routes. reviews are mixed over napa's five-day bottle rock festival. local business owners attended a city sponsored meeting at city hall. a majority of them said their business was effected. most of their regular customers could not reach them because of the outside. others say it brought in more money in those five days than two weeks. suggestions were also offered

in case the city holds the festival next year. 4:48 is the time. the big traffic news this morning is problems on bart. >> that is right i want to show you a map. what has happened between west oakland and embarcadero they have single tracked the trains. a couple of maintenance vehicles overnight got into a collision. bart says no employees were hurt but there are big delays expected for the entire morning commute. they are going to single track trains inside the transbay 2. it will make for very big delays on bart. what you can do is you can drive which a lot of people end up doing. let's take a look the the roads getting through. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza and it's still not very crowded. bart is also suggesting if you can do it, you might want to work from home on this friday. but one thing is for sure we

oakland animal services are looking for the people that badly abused a female shepard. some of this video is hard to watch. early yesterday morning surveillance video shows a man driverring the -- delivering the dog to animal services in a plastic crate. she had been starved and beaten. >> these things don't occur over night. that dog had been left unattended without any attention for an extended period of time. >> the director of the shelter says he wanted to get the word out so they could find the person responsible and get justice for that dog. he says they have given the dog some medicine for the pain but her injuries are too extreme and she will have to be put down. astronomers are tracking an asteroid that will make its closest approach to earth later today. you can see the radar images of the 1998 qe2.

that is less than two miles apart. >> we are tracking quite a number of large asteroids of this size that do cross earth's orbit. that is the one we are concerned about and tracking closely. >> astronomers do add there is no chance it will hit earth. the closest it will get in the next 200 years will be today's pass. that makes it so faint you would need a telescope to see it. that is the good news. the bad news is the morning commute. yeah we do have major delays on bart. there is a problem in the trance bay tube so they will be single tracking trains in and out of sprains. the toll plaza you might want to watch it. we will be watching it for you. people may actually be well they might be taking the car instead of taking bart this morning. we might see more traffic. san francisco northbound 101 traffic looks good approaching
