good morning, welcome to "mornings on 2". it's sunday, june 2nd. >> i'm claudine wong. >> it was hot in a of parts of the bay area today. will it be cooler today? let's head to rosemary. >> it will be cooler. for some of our inland communities, that means not as hot. temperatures are very similar but i see a cooldown in motion and we will be impacted by the afternoon. additional cooling will come for the first half of the week. i will have the numbers for you coming up. we're following developing news out of vallejo. a birthday party ends in gunfire. four people were shot. two were killed. we're live at the police station with the latest. >> reporter: well, claudine, we were at the scene this morning but police say there were so many shots fired, that they asked us not to say. that's why we're live at the police station this morning.

let me show you the video we shot from the scene. police say a birthday party was interrupted by gunfire last night around 11:45. the shots came from the sidewalk in front of this home on the 100 block of lynnfield drive. bullets hit four people. two of the men were hit multiple times. today, flowers mark the spots where any died. family members cleaned the blood from the driveway this morning as neighbors paid respects with flowers. the bullet grazed another man. he's expected to survive. a teenager was hit. he's expected to survive. we asked the police if this was gang-related. they say they are still trying to determine why this happened. >> the adult male pronounced dead, older gentleman. not typically associated with gang-on-gang violence but sometimes innocent bystanders get caught in the fray. >> reporter: witnesses tell police the suspected shooter ran away from the scene. he's described as a latino

male, 20 to 30 years old, around 5'6", he has a goatee and a mustache. he was last seen wearing a flag hoodie. now, police say people at the party are cooperating. they were taken from the scene to the station for interviewing last night. coming up at 7:30, i will have more on why police say the scene was so chaotic last night. back to you in the studio. police say an oakland neighborhood was sprayed with gunfire last night as the gunman kept shooting while trying to chase down his victim. the shooter was running down the victim at holly street. the man was shot in the leg. the stray bullet grazed a man's head. the search for the gunman continues. cleanup crews will be out

to clean up today. with no warning, a 70-foot oak tree fell and came down on willow glen park. limbs and brachs also fell on a bocce -- branches well on a bocce court. >> there was a gentleman in his car. he said he dove under his car. >> an arborist will determine the age of the tree as well as check the stability of other oaks in the parks. volunteers will be searching for a missing man recovering from a brain injury. 19-year-old shawn city disappeared on may 21st. today's search will know focus on golden gate gate because that's where he last used his

over the midwest, there's concerns 0er flooding. coming up at 7:15, we'll have a live report from oklahoma with a look at the tornado damage. noaa says 12,000 -- 12,000 people will be on furlough days. deadly tornadoes in moore oklahoma behinded everyone how vital noaa is to safety. yesterday, a fire spread in southern california to 9 square miles in the angeles national forest. about 1,000 firefighters battled rugged terrain, shifting turred winds.

so far there's -- shifting winds. the fire in new mexico's santa fe national forest is currently the largest of several wildfires burning in the west. officials say residents in nearly 140 homes have been evacuated. no injuries have been reported. rosemary has some pretty good news for you today. a little bit cooler? >> yes. and the signs are already out there, areas along the coast started out mostly sunny yesterday, fog this morning. i'm seeing the fog float into portions of the bay. oakland, mostly sunny, partly cloudy. the onshore breeze will be strengthening, the marine layer is thickening. and those will help lead to the cooldown for the afternoon. right now, the onshore breeze, reaching into fairfield at about 13 miles per hour.

good morning. welcome back. what a lovely shot to start your day. a golden view over the bay bridge. we have a cooling trend on tap for the afternoon and into next week. two people are dead, at least 54 others injured after a powerful earthquake rocked taiwan. a magnitude 6.2 quake hit central taiwan and caused a massive dust storm along a mountainside. shoppers screamed and ran out of a department store. the area is near the 7.6

earthquake in 1999 that killed more than 2300 people. in turkey, creekup is underway after the -- cleanup is underway after a large demonstration. cleanup is occurring around istanbul. activists demanded government leaders, including the prime minister step down. they are concerned over bills restricting alcohol and the prime minister suggesting that all women should bear at least tree children. about -- three children. about 1,000 people have been arrested. we're learning more about the four firefighters killed at a houston motel. the captain had been with the department and and ann sullivan is just graduated from the department. the four firefighters in that motel were searching for people

activity of people out here in the tornado strike zones. they are going through what is left of these homes, seeing the little bits and pieces of their lives that they can salvage. there's one lesson that's come out of this storm. even if you look around it, this particular foundation of this house, there's no basement. this is one of the slab foundations. there's nowhere to retreat when the storm comes. well, the only people who seemed to make it through the tornadoes are the people who get into some kind of a storm shelter. o thgot into their s one are cars and tried to outrun the storms ran. -- they ran. seven of the people who were killed were the ones that got into their cars. we're learning some of the victims who died in this horrible set of storms are people swept away by the flood

i'm claudine wong. >> i'm eric rasmussen in for mike mibach. we continue with the developing news. a group of people were celebrating a birthday, and then the next moment someone walked up and opened fire. katie is live at the vallejo police department this morning where investigators are piecing together what happened. katie? >> reporter: well, eric, we were in that neighborhood this morning where family members and friends of the victims very saddened and making a memorial where the shooting happened. police asked us not to stay there because they said throughout the day yesterday, they received calls of shots fired and then the fatal shooting last night. want to show you video we took from the scene before heeding here to the police department -- heading here to the police department. family members cleaned the blood of the victims from the driveway as neighbors paid their respects with flowers, they sad scene. police say a birthday party was inrunted by gunfire -- interrupted by gunfire last

people hurled rocks -- rorkes and bottles at that -- rocks and bottles at that bus. two other shooting victims, a 25-year-old man from hayward, is hospitalized in stable, and a 28-year-old oakland man was treated and released. the intersection of pack -- the intersection at macarthur has a history of violence. three people were injured there. the city spent $600,000 in overtime that year alone to try to crack down on them. >> we posted the exclusive video of the shooting. scroll down to the video. go to our web page and just san jose's acting police chief called an emergency meeting in response to violence. there are extra officers patrolling streets as part of a gang crackdown. the paper reports yesterday's police mooting was in report -- meeting was in part in response to a deadly stabbing. this was the 21st homicide of

the year. investigators are still trying to find a motive for that stabbing, we told you about, the victim, a 35-year- old man, was found late friday night lying in a carport. he died a short time later at the hospital. a jury trial begins tomorrow for two defendants accused of a gang rape at a richmond high school dance. a 16-year-old girl was attacked in a dark campus courtyard in october of 2009. police say she got drunk, left the homecoming dance and was then beaten and raped for hours. 22-year-old jose montoya and marcellus meter will stand -- peter will stand trial tomorrow. two other suspects await trial in august. we have new information about the major wildfire burning in southern california. according to fire crews, the fire's tripped. the erratic winds fueled the flames is and is now up to 19,700 acres. five structures have been

destroyed. three firefighters have been hurt. homes have been evacuated. some residents in marin county may receive an unexpected visit from firefighters today. this weekend drews are inspecting hundreds of homes to see if residents can do more to protect their homes, including removing leaves and cutting back on the trees. firefighters are also telling homeowners to make sure any tall grass and brush is trimmed at least ten feet from the road to avoid a fire break. rescue teams will be out along the sacramento river this morning looking for a teenager who disappeared in the water while still swimming with -- while swimming with friends. firefighters say a former air force ursa the 16-year-old in

from the sidewalk. here's video from the scene we took yesterday. neighbors and friends brought flowers to the shooting scene shortly after sunrise. police say a man standing on the sidewalk fired into the crowd of people at a birthday party in the 100 block of lynnfield road. it happened around 11:a last night. bulls truck two of the men multiple times. and they died in the driveway and lawn. today, candles and flowers marked the spots. one man suffered an injury to the head. a teen was hit in the leg. but both are expected to be okay. >> it was quite chaotic. it was a 010 to 12-person -- it was a 10 to 12-person party interrupted by gunfire. family members were quite distraught. officers had to stabilize the scene and determine where the suspects had gone. now, witnesses say the suspected shooter ran away from the scene.

nevada falls. she's a -- he's on a tour with a church group. nevada falls is located on the west end of little yosemite valley. it's 594 feet tall. arson investigators are questioning a suspect in connection to a grass fire off 280. you are looking at amateur video of the fire on story road. high temperatures and gusty winds pushed the fire to five acres. no injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in the fire. so far, investigators will only say the cause of the fire appears to be suspicious. some residents in marin county may get an unexpected visit from firefighters today. this weekend, crews are inspecting hundreds of homes to see if residents can do more to protect their properties. fallen leaves are recommended to be picked up as well as other debris. police say a shooter was

running after a victim around 10:00 p.m. last night at 73rd and holly street. the victim went into a convenience store for help. he was shot in the leg and is hospitalized in stable condition. a stray bullet grazed the store clerk's head. other bullets hit a couple of parked cars and went through the wall of a nearby house. the three people inside the house were not hurt. they hit the ground when they heard the gunfire. there are extra officers patrolling city streets this weekend as part of a gang crackdown. the paper reports yesterday's police meeting was in part to a homicide. this is the city's 23rd homicide of the year. san jose is on pace to top the year of 46th homicides which was a 20-year
