good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. oakland police are trying to come up with a strategy to fight the growing problem of sideshows. police are expected to discuss this issue in the next little while. meanwhile, katie utehs has more. katie. >> reporter: they planned a press conference to announce a

new plan to deal with the sideshows. they've not set a time. i spoke with counsel memorial larry reid, he's eager to hear what they have to say because many of these sideshows plague his district. gunfire broke out at a sideshow early saturday morning that left a woman in critical condition and injured two men. people who live here at 106th and macarthur say sideshows are a problem almost every weekend, including larry reid. he said the city and police have curbed the sideshows in the past. now the people involved know the city is short money and police officers. the opd will look to

surrounding cities for help. >> in terms of utilizing the existing municipalities that surround oakland and reached out and asked them for help. that's how we were able to address it the last time. i certainly hope the plan is something similar to that. >> reporter: councilmen reid says he fears if the sideshows continue, it may plague development proposed for his district. people are concerned about the danger of the sideshows. we're not sure when the opd press conference is supposed to take place. but congressman reid told me it would be around 3:45. stay with us. we'll have the latest on opd's plans to sop these sideshows. live in oakland, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. oakland police officers are investigating a shooting involving two women and a security guard outside a nightclub. it happened just before 1:00 this morning outside the shadow ultralounge on 13th and webster street, just four blocks from oakland city hall.

witnesses say the shots were fired after a confrontation inside the club. the victims were rushed to the hospital with non-life- threatening injuries. >> i was having a conversation with, you know, a good friend of mine and i just all of a sudden just saw chaos and people running. of course, at that point, you know, i ran, too. >> police are reviewing surveillance video to try to identify the suspects. this morning's latest shootings are in addition to seven others over the weekend. those shootings left a 17-year- old boy dead and 11 others injured. three of the shootings happened saturday night within the space of an hour. police have not made any arrests. new at noon -- san jose assemblywoman nora campos sent a letter to san jose's acting police chief calling on him to ask the chp for help curbing that city's crime rate. in her letter, campos pointed to san jose's five homicides last week and expressed concern the city could be headed into one of the deadliest summers on

record. campos wrote this is no way an indictment of your leadership or the capabilities of the hard- working men and women of the san jose police department. we're learning more about the hepatitis-a outbreak linked to frozen berries from costco thats have already sickened a woman, 62 years old, from contra costa, she was hospitalized and treatmented for the -- treated for the disease. the berries were labeled townsend farms organic anti- okay can't berries. a lawyer for the company says these berries include pomegranate seeds imported from turkey. so far 40 people have been sickened. >> i buy a lot of produce there. a lot of fruits, a lot of boxes of fruit there. i'm leery about buying their produce there. >> anyone who has eaten the berries within the last two weeks should call their doctor. vaccination within 14 days of

exposure to the virus can prevent the disease from developing. the police are looking for two cyclists who witnessed an attempted sexual assault on a jogger in palo alto. it happened just before 11:00 a.m. yesterday. according to investigators, the assailant followed the victim into the palo alto baylands nature preserve jumped on her back and began to approach her. the suspect ran away when the cyclists approached. he's described as 20 years old, 5'8", latino or biracial with buzzed black hair and studs in both ears. 22-year-old hoss say montoya and marcel less -- jose montoya and marcelas peter are accused of raping and beating a

16-year-old woman after a homecoming dance while 20 people watched. the victim is expected to testify. that trial starts today. 26-year-old lucas anderson was released from jail last week. he originally was facing murder charges in the death of kumar. but investigators were able to confirm his alibi that anderson was drunk and unconscious at a hospital during this home invasion of kumar. four other defendants face charges in this slaying. a $1 million special election is scheduled for tomorrow in santa clara county. voters are being asked to choose a replacement for supervisor george shirakawa junior. he was convicted of corruption and gambling away public money. but with six candidates to choose from, analysts say it will be tough for one of them to get 51% of the vote. that would mean a runoff and the spending of another million dollars. election officials are also

expecting a low voter turnout. the supreme court has ruled that police can legally take dna without a warrant from those arrested. the justices voted today 5-4. they say it does not violate the constitution and justice anthony kennedy says it's a legitimate police booking procedure like fingerprinting or photographing. at least 28 states and the federal government now take dna swabs after arrests. raising mental health awareness. that was the goal of a conference this morning at the white house. experts joined with politicians, religious leaders, celebrities and patients. one of the topics was expanding mental health services. >> there should be no shame in discussing or seeking help for treatable illnesses that affect too many people that we love on mental health. >> president obama said the government will hire more hem health providers to re-- mental health providers to reduce the

wait time for military veterans seeking treatment. new orders to target conservative groups from the irs during the election, those came from irs headquarters. >> the reason that lois learner tried to take the fifth is not because there's a rogue in cincinnati. it's because this is a problem that was coordinated, in all likelihood, right out of washington headquarters and we're getting to proving it. >> committee chief darrell issa of southern california says interviewed employees claim there were no rogue agents, agents were working under orders from washington. a top democrat on the committee slammed i saw's statement saying -- issa's statements saying no committee has heard such order. frank lautenburg has died. new jersey's republican governor chris christie will appoint his successor who will serve until a special election

could come. that could come as soon as this november. that wildfire burning in southern california exploded in size over the weekend. gigi graciette from kttv is live in los angeles with more on the battle there. it still looks pretty windy. >> reporter: it sure is. wind is a huge factor. this is day five of the powerhouse fire. if you look behind me, this is the focal point. while it appears to be burning in remote areas, there are actually several homes in this area, there are several solar farms. that's the big concern that this wind can whip this fire in less than five minute, i was -- i was just told i should be prepared to evacuate, too, should the wind change. the concern also is that the wind could shift one more time and send this fire directly back into the communities that have already been hit by the powerhouse fire. six homes have burned to the ground. nine others are damaged.

there are over 2,000 firefighters on the lines on the front lines of this fire and all morning long we've seen an aerial assault on it, just trying to get this under control. over the weekend, they had what's called extreme fire behavior. dry vegetation that has not burned since 1929, being fueled by these high and erratic winds. we clocked winds gusts at 50 miles an hour. it was just an explosion. the fire grew almost 20,000 acres in just two days and is now almost at 30,000 acres with no real control in sight. it's 40% contained. with this high wind and we have a high wind advisory in effect right now, there's no telling what this fire can do. firefighters and residents are very much on high alert. at least 1100 homes remain threatened. over 2,000 people still evacuated. that's the latest. we're in the antelope valley, about 70 miles from downtown los angeles. i'm gigi graciette, back to you.

the contra costa coroner's office is looking into how a san francisco man died while running through the mt. diablo trail run yesterday. he was running down the mountain during the race when he disappeared. he was later discovered off an embankment. theon takes place today to determine the cause of death. department of public works crews have been busy clearing a big tree that came crashing down this morning okay a busy street in san francisco's marina district. the tree fell around 4:30 a.m. on lombard street. fortunately nobody was hurt. but alexis was not so luckily -- but a lexus was not so lucky. neighbors say the big tree may have been leaning for a while before it toppled over. >> it's like squished. i don't know if it's leaning or growing big. but it's gotten out of control for a while now. i guess not anymore. >> the fallen tree blocked all

three lanes westbound of lombard street for four hours. motorists were able to drive around on neighboring streets. people driving around the richmond-san rafael bridge are being warned to prepare for months of delays. drivers are experiencing up to eight-minute delays due to a caltrans construction project. the westbound bridge deck is being replaced east of the toll plaza to make room for the work, two lanes were shifted yesterday in the 58 -- and the 580 westbound onramp has been shut down. speed has been reduced to 45 miles an hour. this will take three months to complete. park rangers in yosemite have called off the search for a teen swept over a nearly 600- foot waterfall. the teen had been swimming 150 feet on yosemite's west end saturday afternoon, when witnesses saw him get pulled

under by the current. rangers say the danger of the strong current is clearly markedny air -- in the area. >> there are signs that state the danger of the water, not only the top of that waterfall but other places people past to get to the falls. >> the 19-year-old teen went there with his church group. a group of private sector business leaders plan to study the park system for 18 months and come up with recommendations on how to manage the park system and how to generate more revenue. san francisco police today held both a retirement and a welcome party for some four- footed members of the force. chief greg suhr carried on the tradition of the sfpd hanging

up three horseshoes at lefty o'doul's bar for three horses retired from the mounted patrol unit. the chief says the bar is the substation for the unit which is based in golden gate park. the three retiring horses are rebel, hammer and magnum, who passed away recently. the chief also welcomed two rookie horses to the unit, quinn and strider. one mounted patrol officer says he loves working with his equine partner. >> it's a dream. the best job in the world. it's a very long wait to get this job. but it's well worth the wait. i smile every day i come to work. i get to come to work every day and ride a horse. >> hammer and rebel will now live out their days in comfort in a farm in -- on a farm in davis. a nice day, shaping up around the bay area. mostly blue skies. along the coastline i'm seeing some fog. we'll get to that in a minute. but first a live look over mt. diablo. we're going to remain dry.

temperatures continue their downward trend, anywhere from 3 to 6 degrees cooler some of the inland areas. it has to do with this pattern that launched yesterday and started our cooldown. a thicker marine layer in place. the onshore breeze is actually blowing pretty well all the way true the -- through the delta in areas like santa rosa, 15 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago at this hour. here's a look at stormtracker2. you can see some of the coast clearing out, pacifica, half moon bay. we have mostly cloudy skies in and around portions of santa cruz and pacifica. see a little bit of a counterclockwise swirl going on here. just a weak low off the coast but it's been enough to bring that cool weather into the bay area and we will continue with this pattern for the next day or two. giving you a look here, a little bit closer where we're seeing gray sky right over santa cruz, over parts of the north bay, point reyes, here are the winds, 23 miles an hour

in fairfield. it's an onshore breeze. napa reporting 15. santa rosa, reporting 12. again, santa rosa, your neighborhood seeing the biggest difference at this hour from a 24-hour change. 74 in concord. 74 walnut creek. mid-80s in antioch. in antioch, i think you will get back to 90 this afternoon. so still a little toasty in your neighborhood. but around the bay area, widespread 60s at this hour. it will feel pretty good all the bay throughout the afternoon. take a look at what you can expect in your neighborhood, 76 for santa rosa today. looking at mid-70s for petaluma. 75 san rafael. upper 70s napa as well as sonoma. you upper 60s -- upper 60s close to the water. upper 60s in oakland, san leandro and hayward. low 70s castro valley. antioch going to hit right about 90. 74 san jose. 76 los gatos. 70 degrees in santa cruz with partly to mostly cloudy skies for you today. 74 for sunnyvale.

along the coastline, upper 50s to near 60. a little cool at the coast. but we do have some sunshine there today. 66 san bruno. 71 redwood city, low to mid-60s expected in the san francisco area. your extended forecast, this trend will continue tuesday, still looks like it's going to be the coolest day. temperatures rebound slowly as we get into the wednesday, warmer on thursday and then hot weather is expected to return in time for your weekend. widespread mid- to upper 90s the forecast by friday for inland communities. it looks like some of us may hit the century mark on saturday and we begin a trending. as we get into next weekend, another good weekend to head to the beaches. if you are heading inland, prepare for the heat. >> thank you. >> you are welcome. the u.s. government urged the government of turkey to use restraints in dealing with protesters. clashes between demonstrators and police have entered their

fourth day. it began with a protest over plans to bulldoze a park in istanbul's civic center and grew nationwide when police cracked down on the demonstration on friday. one protester was killed when an suv hit a line of marching demonstrators last night. it's not clear if the driver targeted the protesters or just didn't see them. at least 119 people have died in a massive fire at a poultry processing plant in northeastern china. survivors reported hearing loud bangs and say the plant filled with dark smoke. firefighters say the plant was cluttered. workers were unfarm with fire exits and some -- unfarm with fire exits and -- unfamiliar with fire exits and some exits were blocked. if you are planning a trip to the happiest place on earth, be prepared to dig a little deeper in your pocket.

stock markets struggling a bit for direction this afternoon as traders regrouped after a sharp selloff. investors keeping a close eye on interest rates in the bond market which fell after an industry group reported a an unexpected slowdown in manufacturing last month. that's not hurting the dow. the dow is up 86 at 15,202. the nasdaq, though, down 5 and subpoena is up 3 -- and s&p is up 3. lawyers for apple and the federal government made opening statements in a trial over the government's claim that apple

conspired to drive up the price of election tronnic books. the justice department says apple costs consumers hundreds of millions of dollars by working with publishers to overcome amazon's stranglehold on the market. apple's attorney denied the charges and called the government's case, bizarre. the trial is expected to last three weeks. apple is adding a radio service to its pepprytratra -- repertoire. if apple is able to finalize details, this could be announced next week at the radio conference. las vegas visitors are being warned about possible strikes that could affect their visits. the culinary workers' union says it is involved with a labor dispute with ten casinos

and 27 others where contracts will soon expire. they include caesar's palace, the mgm and the blank yo. the mgm -- bellagio, the union has been in negotiations since april. the happiest places on earth is about to become one of the most expensive. did inyland is raising -- disneyland is raising one of its prices. an adult ticket will cost $92. that's a $5 increase. kids' kicks will cost $87 -- tickets will cost $87. prices are going up in florida as well. and jason kidd is hanging up his high tops. today, the 40-year-old point guard sent out a statement thanking his teammates and coaches for supporting him.
