. continuing coverage now of that massive fire burning in southern california. firefighters started the day saying they were guardlily optimistic and ended the day ha. the powerhouse fire is 60% contained. it's taken thousands of firefighters days to get a handle on the fire. the flames have scorched more than 32,000 acres. at least six homes are destroyed and nine were damaged. mandatory evacuation ardz are still orders are still in effect but some are going home. the powerhouse fire is a reminder that fire season is here. coming up in ten minutes the dangers in the bay area as temperatures here are expected to rise this week. it was a violent weekend in oakland with seven more people shot and one of those shootings

is getting a lot of attention. a 17-year-old boy was killed in broad daylight and it was caught on video. some of you may find it difficult to watch. here is what happened. >> reporter: you are looking at exclusive video obtained by ktvu of a cold-blooded killing. >> what is wrong with this dude? >> reporter: shadeed, abdar-rahim was barbecuing when a man was shot. >> i'm upset. it drained me and i went in the house and laid down. >> reporter: you see people darting in every direction in the video. one man gets hit by a trailer sending his shoe in the air. david manson, jr. falls to the ground. the mass gunman continues to shoot in the street we pause the video there because what happens next is too graphic. he fires several more shots at the teen point blank as the boy

during a side show this weekend. the chief is shifting resources to send officers to places where those side shows usually happen. this is video from a side show early saturday morning on 106th and mcarthur boulevard where that shooting happened. >> the groups that like to attend these things are a lot of the groups that are involved in our violent crime and so when they run into each other at the side show a lot of times tempers flare and violence occurs as a result. >> the chief was joined by church and civic leaders who are helping with outreach and community support. they say everyone has a part to play to create a more peaceful oakland. there's a call for more feet on the street to curb gang violence there. staffing went back to normal but the police department put 40 extra officers out on patrol after the fifth homicide in a week on friday.

park and zoo. >> my wife called me and said a fire, in front my house. >> reporter: andrew chong's wife packed up her son and left but they did not have to leave. firefighters kept the flames to seven acres of brush. jose firefighters have responded to two dozen grass fires including four in the last three days. >> we got it. >> reporter: these volunteers provide support for weary firefighters and say this past weekend was especially busy. >> we had four requests for assistance. i don't remember that happening in that quantity in one day since i've been a member for 30 years. . >> reporter: it's the dry fuel that all too often this fire season is behind grass fires. >> a significant increase in grass fires this season and it's only going to get, unfortunately it's only going to get worse. >> reporter: on average by this time in the year they have 990

fires and 7700 acres burned. but already in 2013 state and local fire agencies have responded to 2,000 fires with more than 45,000 acres burned and they say significantly dry conditions are a major factor in 90% of them. and with hot weather on tap for the weekend, firefighters are hoping the winds are calm. . one death has been confirmed and another feared at yosemite national park. it is impossible a man survived the drop over the 594 foot nevada fall. alec hawkman was swimming when witnesses say he was caught in the current. the search for him was scaled back today. this time of year the water level is very high. also over the weekend a

legally under arrest. >> reporter: by 5-4 vote the united states supreme court upheld a law that exists in california and 27 other states. it allows law enforcement to do this: collect dna samples from those arrested for serious crimes. >> this is the kit that we use. >> reporter: captain dan pere is in charge of the lab for the police department. he says dna is an unvaluable tool to solve a crime or exonerate a suspect. >> we can come up with matches, hits, be able to identify persons of interest in a specific crime. >> reporter: california voters passed proposition 69 in 2004. it mandated authorities to get samples from convicted felons, and in 2009, the haw expanded to those -- law expanded to those arrested. some say the law goes too far because it applies to people who have only been arrested not

. a stanley high school teacher is facing charges of child pornography and burglary. the charges come after the teacher told school officials he showed a nude picture of himself in class. >> reporter: 45-year-old richard steiner teaches computer science. he was worked in the san lee and row district for many years. the superintendent calls it a difficult situation. it calls when steiner reported to administrators that he actually projected on the board a nude self-photo in front of his class. 11th grader ivan nuno was this. >> everybody was laughing because they thought it was a joke but when everyone realized he was our teacher then that's when it became quiet. >> reporter: steiner was demonstrating a computer program and intended to bring up another photo. >> he gave us a very long speech

about how he was extremely sorry, about how he did not want this to happen. >> reporter: police took over the investigation and say they found additional materials on other xutsers computers. disturbing photos and pornographyic stories. >> that information is brought to the district attorney, they reviewed it and based on their review they thought there was charge there. >> reporter: the burglary charges stems from evidence they found during the search. intimate items taken from a female friend's home when she was gone. >> what i'd like the community and students to know if anyone has any information, that they would please contact the police or contact me directly. >> reporter: steiner has been charged but has not been arrested. police say he is cooperating and his first court date is next week. . more details now from the

teacher's attorney. he says from what i have seen so far there is not sufficient evidence to convict mr. steiner of any crime. the attorney also says rick is a beloved teacher with supporters at the school and in our community. homicide investigators are looking into the shooting death of a man in a normally quiet san fransisco neighborhood. 67-year-old shoeshung mi was found dead in his garage at 44th avenue and ortega street. he had been shot in the back of the head but police are still trying to figure out when it happened. a this point no arrests have been made. the man convicted of killing man from virginia who was in the bay area for a job interview was sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole. george huggins was convicted back in march. prosecutors say he robbed and

communities, and sun comes up and fog dissipates. in the extended forecast as we go into the weekend we'll see temperatures into the mid-90s by saturday. the warmest day on the weekend. there's a weak hoe low pressure system out here so you have a day tomorrow like today. the high pressure comes in starting on wednesday. and that starts to ramp up the temperatures so that by saturday we're back into the mid-and upper 90s. tomorrow temperatures ramp up rapidly. you'll notice how much warmer it is on thursday and friday and saturday being the warmest day, sunday cools a little bit. forecast highs tomorrow, 60, 70s are yellow, 80s and 90s in the central vally. cool, that's all that moist cool air. we'll not have that push of air on thursday and friday. the winds will be more northerly and that will warm things up. tomorrow like today. next few days after that it
