we'll show you where this happened on the sidewalk on indian broom drive on the 300 block. homicide investigators still gathering evidence. this attack happened at 1:00 this morning. we'll show you just within the last hour, the corner came in and removed this man's body. the victim in this case was an asian man. we saw this morning, the officers went door to door on the street trying to talk to neighbors, trying to find witnesses to this crime. i have talked to one officer on the scene. police are not offering any more details about what the motives may have been for this killing. we're not able to find out if anyone is in custody in connection with this homicide. we're working to get more information about what may have taken place here this morning. again, we know one man was found stabbed to death here on the street in san jose. they've reached out to their

spokesperson this morning. we were hoping to get more details on what we understood as the 24th homicide. k tv u channel 2 news. a fight among family members left one man dead in san jose. it happened on those apartments off of 280 and winchester boulevard. they got into a fight in an upstairs apartment at 5:30 last night. one died from the injuries in the hospital. the two men are related. this comes one week after a deadly stabbing around the corner. >> it seems to be really dangerous right now, and kids playing around outside and i have my daughter, and you can't even be outside no more. >> a neighbor told k tv u that there have been disturbances there in the past. police are trying to figure out what started the fight. we learned more about the

homicide near the great mall. we'll have a look at the suspect coming up at 7:30. >> former south african president is back in the hospital, nelson mandela. he's said to be in serious, but stable condition. he fell ill a few days ago but was rushed to the hospital overnight after his condition worsened. he has suffered a number of serious health problems recently. this is his fifth visit to the hospital in two years. president obama is holding high level talks with china. he will meet with china president and the two met yesterday sitting down to talk about different topics: cybersecurity, international trade in northern korea. they expect to meet around noon. they met last year and during the governor's trade mission in

the poorest air quality. it's going to be the eastern district, the inland moderate air for most of the bay today. it's going to be hot out there and the air will be stagnant in some spots. 71 degrees in fairfield, upper 60s to low 70s. we don't have that number this morning, low s,to 60 degrees for areas around oakwood, and 50 degrees, a mention a moment ago, very gray over half moon bay, that light shade of gray right there, it's indicating that fog, that's pretty much from the ocean beach area all the way down to santa cruz. i want to show you this here. this weak system here off the southern california coastline will track north and east. this will bring us a big change for tomorrow. today is going to be the hottest day.

it will be warm to hot inland. we have that coastal fog this evening, it will keep temperatures at the coast, cool to mild. meanwhile, the hottest spots hitting 100 degrees and plus. 101 expected in clearlake today. get closer to the water and it will feel good in saws lee tow, 76 in burke lee, upper 90s, walnut creek danville, it's 90 degrees for san jose, and 87 for santa clara. warm in palo alto, and 82 for san jose. it's going to be a scorcher in some areas. it could be a nice beach day if you're headed in that direction. if you're going to get into tomorrow, not so much a nice beach day. 84 degrees expected for the

santa monica. 11:5 2:00 a.m. the first 911 clothing, a man leaving black -- wearing black tactical clothing was believed to have shot in his house. he had been firing into the house. >> reporter: the gunman jumped into the car forcing the driver with him. minutes later he opened fire on a santa monica city bus. no deaths thanks to a quick thinking bus driver. >> it happened in front of me. i was in my car and a guy on the left side of the street jumped out of the car with a big black gun and started blastings rounds at our cars and the bus. >> reporter: the gun shot at a building and then force add driver to take him to the college where a killing spree continued. >> i heard a couple of gunshots and someone told us someone had

a gun to get out. >> i went to the hallway and i saw a gentleman dressed in all black. >> reporter: it was a deadly path fromhouse to the library at santa monica packed with students studying for finals. >> it looked like he was standing there posing for the cover of an ammo magazine or something, it was very calm, not yelling, looking around for tarts targets casually. >> less than 15 minutes after it started it was over, four victims and the gunman dead. >> they engaged the suspect and he was shot and killed on the scene. >> his body moved from the library and taken to the sidewalk where he was pronounced dead. >> santa monica police detained another man. it was a person of interest, he's been cleared and released.

in afghanistan four soldiers have been killed in four separate attacks. taliban attacks. a man wearing an afghan turned his weapon us forces. and a militant ran up to a vehicle and tossed a grenade in it. three american soldiers and an italian soldier were killed. shannon richardson tried to frame her husband. she suspected her husband had mailed rice inlaced letters to the president and the gun control group last month. they found inconsistencies and she failed a polygraph test. she is the mother of five. he filed for divorce on thursday.

hurricane season is expected to speed up and soak the northeast this morning. tropical storm andrea caused flooding and made it impossible to drive in many areas. some people had to be rescued from their cars on long island yesterday. it could drop up to five inches of new jersey and new england today. it started out as a tropical storm. here's a look at the mess in cranston, rhode island last night. the cars trudged through flooded streets. one is above flood stage and causing minor flood damage. earlier they faced flooding in andrea's aftermath. this is what it looked like at the height of rush hour. there were lots of accidents, thousands of commuters got stuck in traffic. one ended up stranded. >> i left my office at 3:30 to

suspicious traffic. they noted their the computer was recently hacked. we tracked down one woman who went to the park store on tuesday, hours later she said someone used a debt card number to make a purchase out of state. >> if they don't check their bank account, they are not going to have any money. >> they were not sure of the hackers customer information. the supermarket has received other complaints about fraudulent charges out of state. the f.b.i. is investigating the case. southern health is warning patients that their personal information may be compromised. it turned up during a drug bust last month. it may include addresses social security numbers, birth dates and numbers.

(sigh) from dressers to duvets, it's time to refresh with ikea. well, today a very special dog is making his way to southern california. the animal that is part wolf and part dog has been housed at an animal shelter in sacramento for two weeks. it is illegal to own that type of animal without a permit. he's going to be sent to a wolf hybrid sanctuary in southern california. he'll spend the rest of his life there working with at risk use. check out the suspect running down that sidewalk. it's a bear. he was on the run from officers for more than three years. they pursued the suspect for

one man i talked to said he's seen more and more problems here. san jose police still have this all taped off. they're investigating and trying to piece together what was san jose's 24th homicide of the year so far. it happened at 1:00 this morning on the 300 block of indian broom drive. this is where a man was stabbed to death in the street. according to reports the victim in this case was an asian man. they were seen knocking on doors, looking to talk with any witnesses. one neighbor told me that this crime was troubling. >> i come out this morning and i find out we have another stabbing and there's been a lot of them in the area here and it's getting me concerned. i've been here 17 years and it used to be out on the outer edges. >> reporter: i've reached out to the spokesperson for the police and looking for more details about what happened this morning and police are not

offering up details on this killing. they are not saying what the motive may have been for this stabbing death or if there is anyone in connection with this crime in custody. we have new information on the suspect in a violent mall confrontation that led to first homicide of the year here. the sports authority in the great mall. he saw a man he knew inside the store, the two began fighting and he pulled a baseball bat off the shelf and beat the man and he died of his injuries. everyone else in the mall had no idea what had just happened. >> i wish that somebody would have came in and notified us or gave us some kind of info. >> the officer got to the store

richard ramirez died at 9:10, he terrorized communities in southern and northern california in 1985 and 1984. he operated at night looking for open windows and doors and attacked. he is accused of killing 13 people and being sentenced to die in 1985. >> he's been reserved for the last several years. he hasn't gone into the yard and exercised. he was just a pure evil person. >> a spokesman for the marine county courthouses, he died of natural causes related to kidney failure. he was 53 years old. >> the cleveland man accused of holding three women captive for a decade. 139 counts of rape, and aggravated murder charge for

purposely causing the unlawful termination of a pregnancy. he was arrested last month after one of the women escaped with help from a neighbor. castro is scheduled to be arraigned next week. a man who was operating machinery is facing multiple charges for a building collapse in philadelphia that killed six people. police believe he was using demolition equipment on wednesday of what was left with a four-story building collapsed on to another store. he had a high level marijuana in his system. he's a fell on arrested 11 times since 1984. the swiss team is preparing a new boat after the fatal capsize of a catamaran.

unheatlhy amounts of ozone pollution. police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in san jose early this morning. the discovery was made just after 1:00 this morning. police say the victim was found injured in the street and died about 45 minutes later. officers say they are looking for witnesses among neighbors who say the violence in the neighborhood is getting worse. homicide investigators remain on the scene trying to piece together what happened. a fight among family members has left one man dead in san jose. we were the only crew on the scene yesterday. it happened just off of interstate 280. police say two men got into a fight in an upstairs apartment around 5:30 last night. and one later died from injuries at the hospital. we have learned that the two men are related. this homicide comes one week after a deadly stabbing just around the corner. >> it seems to be dangerous right now. and kids playing around outside. and i have my daughter. and you captain even be outside

died. right now, police are working on nine active crime scenes trying to figure out why the shooter went on the rampage in the first place. it took place not far from where president barack obama's motorcade passed through yesterday. and fresh off his bay area visit, president barack obama is holding high level talks today with china. in about 20 minutes from now, he will meet with the chinese president at an estate. now the two men first sat down yesterday. topics included cyber security, climate change, international trade and north korea. governor brown is scheduled to meet with the chinese president around noon. they met last year during the governor's trade mission in april. some of the most powerful companies are denying that they assisted the government in surveillance programs uncovered this week. facebook's mark zuckerberg posted the statement, facebook is not and has never been part of the program to give the government direct access to our

suspicion of murder yesterday at the sports authority in the mall. police say he was inside the store just before 11:00 a.m. the two began fighting. and he pulled a baseball bat off the store shelf and beat the other man. tythe rker said while the investigation, everyone else in the investigation had no idea what had just happened. >> i wish somebody would have came and notified us to tell us, be on alert or be on the lookout or some kind of information. >> police say it happened fast. an officer in the area got to the store just 13 seconds after getting a call for help. and took the suspect into custody. police added he is the only suspect of the beating. and it was not gang related. two women who were seriously hurt after being hit by a car are recovering this morning. now according to chp, the two pedestrians were hit around 7:20 last night crossing the street at the stance of the

park. the paramedics performed first aid and then took them to a trauma center. there's no word on if the word is going to face charges. and oak l.a.p.d. police are kicking off a new program this weekend. last week, three people were shot during a side show at 106th avenue. chp officers will continue to control streets as part of a partnership with the police department. the plan provides police captains with their own teams to better solve their area's problems. trash collectors and postal workers are being recruited to help police see what officers can't always see. the times reports the police department asked the workers to write down any suspicious activity they see on the route. police hope the details can help them catch criminals. the city's crime rate jumped 24% last year over the year before. half a dozen tree sitters are taking a stand high above an urban garden. protesters want to stop a

let's recap the top stories. police are investigating the death of a man. the victim was found injured in the street just after 1:00 this morning. he died just about 45 minutes later. homicide investigators are trying to piece together what happened there. police say they have a man in custody on suspicious of murder after yesterday's attack at the great mall. they say he beat a man to death with a baseball bat. he is the only suspect in the attack. the sun is already out this morning and there is a fire danger concern. some places will be topping 100 degrees today. today is also the second straight spare the air day due to high temperatures, low winds and car exhaust combining for unheatlhy levels of ozone pollution. children are trading in their toy guns.

it's underway here. students lining up behind me here. and they are turning in toy guns brought from home. and in exchange, they get books and raffle tickets and a chance to win a bike that they have parked overhere. that's -- parked over here. the goal behind the program is to make sure the kids understand that the real dangers behind guns and the principal believes if kids play with toy guns, they become desensitized to the seriousness of the weapons. and i want to bring in the principal. a unique sort of gun buy back program. what's is the message? >> really that the kids are playing with kids, it's becoming see serious, too much of a threat. and police officers are on high alert. and there are too many weapons sold to be toy guns that look like the real thing. and although they are replicas,

3rd. thousands of people plan to gather for the opening day of the fair. it offers the traditional fair food and animals and rides. but this year, the fair is offering something never seen before, a robot that will throw frisbees. more than 130,000 people are expected to tend. today is world ocean day. and if you are f you're headed to the beach, help -- and if you're headed to the beach, why not help the environment as well. one of the largest events is taking place starting at 10:00 this morning. and another is scheduled at the park near the aquarium of the bay. volunteers are hoping to remove litter from the beaches to protect wildlife. and city officials plan to do some showing off tomorrow. millions of dollars in improvements have been made to make that park more accessible. the city is going to show off the improvements which include a new four acre park and theater. the event runs from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 in the afternoon. people are being urged to leave their cars at home.

a man kidnapped his two children from a south san francisco home and is facing 33 years in jail. he was sentenced yesterday to three years in the county jail. and another 16 months supervision upon his release. he is charged with kidnapping his son and daughter and sailing away on a stolen yacht. his full sentence is served. organizers of oakland's first friday festival hope last night won't be the last. the event is running into money problems. the organizing committee made up of volunteers has been unable to raise the $20,000 a month needed to keep it going. funding from the city runs out this month. >> short-term, to raise money through a kick starter or some other online crowd funding. and also, get some short-term spontaneous source.
