good morning, welcome to "mornings on 2", it is sunday, june 9th. i am claudine wong. >> i am mike mibach. we will get over to rosemary. >> good morning to you. we have a visual reference of how hot it was yesterday. >> livermore breaking records and today we will be in the 80s. yesterday, well above the century mark for the hottest spots and today, a big change coming along the coast. it was foggy and cool all day long. that is the case for once again today. what we can expect for today and including the possibility of dry lightning. it will be as the system that brings us cooler weather and moves into california. i will have more on that in just a bit. party erupts in the south bay. they are investigating a deadly shooting in a sports bar are in sunnyvale. this is the pea center of circulation lounge and we have the latest. -- this is a the peacock

lounge. and it is a sports bar. >> reporter: this is in sunnyvale. it is an active crime scene. sunnyvale police out here and they have it taped off and they are still gathering information in the investigation. it is still in the early stages. one man was shot and died at the scene. he has not yet been identified. there is a second man hit by gunfire as well. he survived. >> there was a fight outside. but we don't have many more details than that. >> it happened at 1:00 this morning. they say there was a hip-hop show taking place at the bar last night from artists all around the bay area. investigators were out here talking with potential witnesses and they are checking surveillance video in the area. there is not a description on the shooter that they are putting out. i asked the police about the possible motive for the killing. >> we don't know. some sort of altercation occurred and resulted in the

shooting. >> reporter: this is the first homicide of the year so far in sunnyvale. it is a city that sees very few killings on average. there were three homicides during all of 2012. we bring you out here. the investigators are asking for witnesses to come forward. as the captain put it to me. they are still trying to find anybody who may have been in the area with useful information to offer to investigators. >> we are live in sunnyvale. alex savidge. ktvu news. three people were hurt in a shooting. police were called to a parking lot. we have vague suspect information and police have not said what led to the shots fired. none of the injuries are considered life threatening. a person has died in a car crash after they he say he rolled the vehicle right off the highway. that crash was reported at 3:30 this morning. when they arrived, the car was

engulfed in flames. it overturned on interstate it 280 at westboro boulevard. the person inside the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. happening now, crews are responsibilitying to a water main break in san leandro. they have reports of a main break and water was flowing into the streets and causing part of the road to buckle. they were able to shut it off before homes were damaged. power is back on at treasure island. it took crews three and a half hours to get the lights back on. this is the spokesperson for the utility commission. they were not affected by the blackout and still unclear what caused the outage. what caused a wind-fueled fire that tore through three buildings in oakland. it started late in the afternoon on 73rd avenue

between garfield and bancroft avenues. >> there was a shed behind the home. they were on a defensive attack when the roof of one of the buildings collapsed. >> we have a lot of smoke damage. and personal property that was damaged and just pretty much, we have been here for over 30 years. it is very devastating for us. >> investigators of say it cost $08,000 in damage to the structures. they say it started in a pile of belongings left over from a rummage sale earlier in the day. one firefighter was treated and released for minor injuries. we have now information about the gunman who went on a killing rampage in santa monica. he had more than 30 rounds of ammunition. they have identified him to multiple news outlets as john zawari. they released this photo of him. armed with a weapon and in a

santa monica college building on friday. they looked at the arsenal which they recovered. it was an assault fle and handgun. he carried a duffle bag with ammunition clips. investigators say he was an emotionally troubled man. bent on killing because he couldn't cope with his parent that is are divorced. he killed his father and brother before leaving for the college. he am went on a bus before arriving on the santa monica college. he shot people until police finally shot and killed him. he left four people dead and others hurt. one of the victims is talking about the moment he shot. >> he turned and looked at me and next thing i know, glass was shattering on the side. i felt bullets go into my shoulder and the other shoulder. >> doctors say she is lucky to

survive the attack. santa monica college is closed this weekend. counselors are on hand. free counseling services will be available through the ends of the month. the ground keeper was among those killed. his daughter who was student was hurt and not expected to survive. it was a little bit too hot at a couple of high school graduations in contra costa county this morning. heritage high in brentwood and one in ekely held their graduation ceremonies on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year. as soon as they would treat one patient, another would fall victim to the heat. >> it was like the fans. the crowds there were passing outs. it was terrible. >> paramedics said the emergency system was strained while trying to help patients at the same time. some graduate's family members said the school should have been better prepared for the heat. the victims range in age from

nine to 79 years olds. it was enough to cancel the graduation county in loomis, they made it part way through the ceremony. it was 9:15 when people in the audience started passing out. total of 15 individuals were treated for heat exhaustion or eat stroke. there is a cool down in store after sweltering heat. in livermore, temperatures hit 107 degrees yesterday. that is another record breaking temperature for the city. the second record breaking day in a row. they resorted to a fountain to cool off. others opted for shade. >> it depends on where you were. rosemary, some said they didn't see the sun yesterday. >> two worlds going on. it was so, so hot inland and right along the east bay shoreline where i was all day started out warm and the sea

breeze kicked in and so the transition started taking place late afternoon in some cases. >> some of us, partly to mostly cloudy skies. the marine layer has grown to 2,000 feet. >> very robust on shore breeze. the cooler air continues to fill into the bay area for today and driving temperatures down for our inland communities. you will notice the difference. anywhere from 20 to 25 degrees cooler. livermore as well as fairfield, antioch and brentwood yesterday. here is the system that is responsible for the change in the weather pattern. it is lifting north. as it does, it brings the possibility of thunderstorms. but the problem lies in where we will see little to no rainfall with these. >> we are looking at the possibility of high fire danger. it is tough to tell but the widespread gray that has moved

. welcome back. this is a cool shot. low duck of clouds in walnut creek. it as cooler day for your area. a man is under arrest with a deadly crash in fremont that killed his wife and son. gilbert gil was driving 65 miles an hour when his car hit a tree. his son was thrown from the car and died at the scene. his wife died a day later. he is charged with vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment. the highest paid employee made $30,000 and didn't work a day. >> the former general manager quit in may of 2011. under her retirement, she has continueed to receive paychecks and full benefits for more than 19 months. they said she was able to do this by using 80 weeks of

. a high school graduate received more than her diploma. first class michael came home to surprise his sister lana at her graduation. >> he skypeed me and said he was in colorado and he couldn't make it. and i was in tears and it is good to have your siblingses here his sister walked across the stage. they celebrated a special graduation ceremony. >> this is the graduate. one of the graduates. >> students completed a new program that offers a chance for high school graduation. and the other four will take the exam. they took part in a community block party right after the ceremony. >> it does come a long way. and i am proud of them. what we have done in the community it is building all

the youngsters that are trying to do something in their life. the graduates are now qualify to work the project. 25 students have already signed up for the next class. the 7.5 mile run will start in mill valley and end at the beach. 1500 runners are expected to participate. contestants say there are stairs. and the steep trails make it challenging and really worth it. first one was back in 1905 making this the oldest trail race in america. second sunday in june. it starts at 8:30. maybe they are ready to head out the door. if they are ready to run, what will they see? >> hopefully they will appreciate the cooler day. we are cloudy in most cases and we will look at the cloud cover. we have been talking about it.

the marine layer is quite thick. and the robust on shore breeze that kicked in yesterday driving in the clouds. i will take you to 9:00. we begin to see clearing. south bay in the areas around concord and antioch and we get into the noontime along the north bay and looking at partly cloudy skies and the rest of us will be partly sunny with the exception of the coast. it could be mousily cloudy for the entire day. it was cool and foggy at the coast and it was a scorcher inland. well, things are changing. we have a switch in the pattern coming. you are already feeling it. cloudy conditions and cooler on shore breeze and we have the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in the hills for today. we will be tracking that. and it will be a partly cloudy, cooler day. >> temperatures, i have shaved 10 to 15 degrees off the high number.

right now. crime scene tape has just come down. the man who was shot and died here has not been identified. the motive is unclear. police say there was some sort of a fight outside of the sports bar. >> shooting happened at 1:00. >> there was a special event going on last night. >> hip-hop show featuring arts tises from around the bay area. along with the man shot to death a second man was hit by gunfire and he will survive. >> they said they have a gunshot victim at the hospital. it was related to the him dent there. we have since interviewed the person and they are released from the hospital. >> reporter: now at this point they are going to check surveillance video from neighboring businesses hoping to make an arrest in connection with what was sunnyvale's first home side of the year. it is the city that sees very few killings. there were three homicides during all of last year.

officer shot and killed walker. >> this is a flare gun that they he say he was carerying. he modified into a handheld shotgun. this is a deadly officer involved shsonoma. the suspect 48-year-old morales had slashed a woman with a knife. when deputies arrived, he was stabbing himself. they tried to taser him and that did not stop him. >> he lunged at this with the same knife. morales had a prior relationship with the woman and they have an adult child together. jury selection is expected to begin tomorrow of a florida teenager trayvon martin. george zimmerman is on trial for the death of trayvon martin. they do not plan to call zimmerman to the stand and won't ask for change of venue.

customs on friday morning at 10:00 a.m. she told custom officials she was waiting for her family. when the family showed up, she was nowhere to be found. deputies say she is hard of hearing and described as 5'7" inches tall. and 125 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. they got stranded on the american river for more than four hours. cal fires said the water suddenly rose after it was released from a nearby power station. a mother and her two daughters and nephew became trapped on the middle fork knew auburn. two bystanders tried to help. they battled the raging waters and brought everyone to shore using ropes. >> after being rescued off the cost of alameda, he ran into

problems. they found the surfer out half a mile out in the bay and they were able to bring him back to shore safely. north of livermore they are investigating the cause of the grass fire that burned 248 acres. it started yesterday at 10:15 near loss piscaros reservoir. it was open grass land and small cottage was destroyed by the flames. they were close to a number of houses, horse ranches and even prized 4-h pigs. >> we were thinking about fire and two hours later. boom. >> well, other than being a little stressed from the commotion. he said pigs were fine. no livestock was seen. and now, he is okay. so far the cause is under investigation. all right. time now 7:37 and rosemary talked about the big changes in the weather. depending on where you were, hot and cold. and when i was driving in this morning i am looking at the

fog. and this is the caldecott tunnel and thinking we are in for a similar day. has grown thick. and the on shore breeze is blowing quite strong. winds are at 30 miles an hour. >> we need that breeze and it will cool things off. >> live look over the bay and see the bay bridge and san francisco, the clouds and fog. and even mist and drizzle reported in some cases. we have a system still off the coast of southern california. it is right about here. and it is going to be drifting north. and over us. over the course of the next 24 to 36 hours. that is what is leading to our cool downs. so, definitely feeling the difference already this morning. we are cloudy in areas that were mostly sunny yesterday and the big fog bank is helping in addition to the on shore breeze and making the temperature drop anywhere from 20 to 25 degrees from the inland areas today.
