cover here all day long. there could be small fires with smoke that is obscured by the cloud cover. it is possible there could be more fires that haven't been reported. as of now, lightning strikes sparked 20 fires. this large fur tree was split by lightning near highway 128 this morning. the tree still smoldered. watched carefully. smoke could be seen from 2-20 fires touched off by lightning. >> we had several hundred reported lightning strikes throughout. >> reporter: at the command center this shows fire sparked in remote areas off of highway 38 and terrain difficult for firefighters to access.

surveillance video in hopes of finding the shooter. it happened during a concert at the bar about 1:30 a.m. yesterday morning. a customer was also shot but will be okay. police have a 4th suspect in custody in a gang related shooting last year. he was been extradited from reno where he was arrested. another suspect was booked in april. two other are in state and federal custody on unrelated charges. they are accused of shooting and killing a man last august. he was sitting in a car on oakland road. he was the 25th 25th home side of 2012. the daughter of a retired police officer is found dead. new information in what could be a homicide case, ktvu's jana katsuyama is live after talking with the sister. >> the family was very emotional. i talked to them when they came

here to prepare for her funeral. her body was found last thursday. her sister tells me that she was 31 years old, grew up in pleasanton, she was living with a boyfriend and didn't keep inkatha with her fam -- keep in touch with her family. a hiker found her body. today i learned from the investigators the autopsy has been completed and they say this is a suspicious death. she had no gun shot wounds but there were injuries on her body. family and friends hopes someone will step forward with information. >> it is hard not knowing what happened to her. i hope she wasn't in pain.

really sad. you know, i want people to remember her the way she was back then. >> investigators tell me they did question her boyfriend and he said the last time he saw her was several weeks ago. they plan to return her body to the family this week. reporting live, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. police are trying to figure out why a man shot and killed his wife before a police officer shot him, this happened saturday afternoon. a officer responded to a call of several shots fired. he found the woman on the ground. he said her husband pointed a gun at him and the officer fired. the wife died at the scene. the husband died at the hospital. the deadly shooting in santa monica friday. police released the name of the fifth person that was skilled.

she was 68 years old who was seen on the santa monica college campus collecting recyclables. students returned to school today. she was taken off of life support yesterday. her father was aled a vigil is planned for tonight in front of the library. police say the rampage was a pre-meditated act. john zawahri first killed his father and brother and then set the house on fire. after that he went to santa monica college and killed three more. police are trying to figure out what prompted the attack. he came from a family with years of turmoil and he was struggling with mental illness. he would have turned 24 last saturday, the day after the shootings. a fire administration building was evacuated after a suspicious letter was found. it turned up at the fire

authority's office. the envelope had something tin. no one was hurt but three workers were isolated and checked. san francisco police are investigating a house fire where a marijuana growing operation was discovered. when firefighters arrived a lot of smoke was coming from the house. they said they uncovered the operation after putting the fire out. the cause of the fire is under investigation. arson investigators are expected to focus on a ventilation system that was illegally wired. police are trying to determine who owns the house. neighbors didn't know the people who lived there. >> i had no idea who they were. never talked to them. neighbors didn't talk to them either. >> investigators tell ktvu the marijuana is worth several hundred thousand dollars.

investigators are trying to find out what lead to a fire that injured five people, started at 10:00 p.m. last night at four penny lane. crews from six fire departments brought it under control in 20 minutes but two people were taken to the hospital with burns. three other whose rushed to help were treated at the scene. the fire caused $250,000 in damage. a father accused in a crash that killed his wife and son. today he appeared in court. his reactions when he faced a judge and what may have happened just before the crash. >> apple showing off new stuff. the devices unveiled in san francisco today that had thousands excited.

he accused the government of violating the law and being out of control. police headquarters reopened today after a week. the department was closed since last tuesday after a plumbing problem. the water damage extended down to the first floor lobby. 50 offices were moved during the clean up. the cost of the damage is $250,000. the oakland police department will complete its over haul this weekend. the command restructure will be completed by this saturday. it includes getting the final three of the five policing districts up and running. they will be run by district commanders. he will be in district two that covers north oakland and district awhich he that covers the grand -- lake.

it was a horrible crash that ripped a car in half. a boy inside was killed incidentally. his mother died a few days later at the hospital. today the father who was driving appeared in court for the first time. he is facing serious charges. ktvu's cara liu was in the courtroom. what was it like being in the courtroom as the charges were read. >> reporter: cameras were not allowed in the courtroom today but he looked up and took a deep breath as the judge started reading the first of three felony counts against him. as he read the second count, pertaining to the death of his son we saw him break down and sob. dozen family and friends showed up for the court hearing and only a cousin was willing to comment. >> we are devastated as a family for what has happened.

my cousins, which i consider my brother, loves his wife and he is in pain. >> reporter: at the crash site here a memorial of flowers, candles and teddy bears have grown paying tribute to the mother and son, who was killed incidentally. police say they were headed to a park last tuesday when he lost control of his car hitting a tree with such force it split the car in half. investigators say initial information shows he was traveling 65 in a 35 miles per hour zone. witnesses estimated he was going between 80 and 100 miles per hour. >> we had a bicyclist in the area and he specifically told officers that he could hear yelling from what sounded like a male and a female in the vehicle before the vehicle accelerated and hit the tree.
