i'm tori campbell. breaking news in san francisco. police say at least 19 people are hurt after the muni f-line collided with a muni bus. this happened on 6th and market street about one hour ago. david stevenson just arrived on the scene to cover this breaking news. what can you tell us? >> reporter: this happened

closer to 1 -- 11:38. we're told this happened so recent, there were scores of people on the street when this muni train apparently rear ended a bus on the tracks. the ambulance, police cars, personnel on the scene. initial reports indicated there were 19 people transported. i just spoke to san francisco affire -- fire chief. she told me the injuries appeared to be minor. they were able to transport four people per ambulance. the other thing she said it's believed quite a few people were children, riding either the train or the bus for a summer field trip. i've seen children inside the

ambulances being comforted by adults, holding ice packs to their necks. for now there's still a lot to be answered in terms of how fast this train may have been going, what the signals may have been like and what led to this accident. for now, traffic along this block is still blocked. there are a lot of personnel moving cars, moving city vehicles, it still remains to be scene when they are going to remove this train and remove the bus and allow traffic to go back to normal. a lot of people in the streets saw this and a lot of people are still saying out here to see how this will be resolved. we'll keep on this and have more details for you later coming up on the evening programs. for now, reporting live in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. >> i know we're updating ktvu.com as well. just within the last 90 minutes we were told a suspect in a south bay homicide was

taken into custody. 25-year-old steven craig bowie was arrested at his home in san jose. he's accused of shooting a club counselor to death on tuesday outside the peacock lounge on fremont. police say his arrest was based on information obtained during the investigation. the city of antioch has seen a big spike in crime in less than 24 hours. ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from antioch where she's been talking to neighbors about how they are dealing with this. good afternoon, tara. >> reporter: good afternoon. you know, over just an -- over a seven-hour stretch there were outbreaks. some neighbors say they are taking a unique approach to tackling crime. karen peterson takes her scanner with her everywhere. she says in her now crime- ridden neighborhood it's almost a necessity. >> before i go, i will listen to the scanner to see if the

coast is clear. >> reporter: she and her husband live one lane over from horseshoe circle where a 70- year-old man was killed last night. the suspect taking off in the victim's gold bmw. >> we were all in shock. kind of gives me goose bumps. at 12:30 there was another homicide. a 21-year-old man killed. seven hours before and close by another shooting and police chase and an armed robbery at a grocery store. >> it's frightening. it's just so frightening. you know, there's no freedom. it's gone. >> reporter: peterson's husband even installed security cameras for the protection. >> the top left is on top of my house it records 100% of the time. >> reporter: cameras police have used to catch criminals. >> people may think i'm paranoid. maybe i am. but that paranoia also keeps you safe because i have the

parking lot. police arrested a 15-year-old suspect five days later. the man suspected of kidnapping a teenager in fremont is due in court this afternoon. janine de la vega's is live in fremont to explain how the victim may have saved herself by making one bold move. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. we're here in the mission lakes neighborhood. this is where the frightening ordeal ended for this teenaged girl. the suspect we're told ordered the girl to park here along tmd at's where he tried to sexual assault her. you can see this is a pretty remote area near alameda county creek. police say the girl did everything right by running away. let's go to a picture of the suspect, 23-year-old aaron kumar roy. he will be in court this afternoon at 2:00 facing six fell nil charges of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and intent to commit rape. he was in the lucky's parking lot on fremont boulevard and

snuck. the back seat of a -- snuck into the back seat of a 16-year- old girl girl's car and told her to drive. you are about to look at security camera video. you could barely see her feet in the upper portion of the screen. that's her running from the car. police say that when the suspect told her to take off her clothes. that's when she started running and she was able to flag down a neighbor. >> she was historical. i could see her crying. i could -- sharking. totally shaking -- sharking. totally shaking. you don't think so much. instinct. grab her, get in the house and hit the panic button and dial 911. >> reporter: police found the victim's car and lifted fingerprints off of it and that's what led them to kumar who does have a previous criminal record. police arrested him at his work which was in dublin. the neighbor who helped the

girl is being called a hero but this was her response. >> i think she's the hero because too many girls don't know that they have the power to do what she did. god put me at the right place at the right time. >> reporter: police say kumar does not have any prior criminal history involving kidnapping or rape but they do mention they feel they are fortunate that he did have a prior arrest because that's how they were able to track him down by his fingerprints. he was already in the system. they say if they weren't able to track him down that way, they would have had a major sexual predator on their hands. we'll have much more on the story at 5:00. reporting live from fremont, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, janine. police are investigating the sexual assault of a young boy at the berkeley marina. the berkeley police, the east bay regional police all searched for the suspect yesterday afternoon from the ground and in the air. the child who police say is

we continue to follow breaking news in san francisco. at least 19 people were injured. this is about one hour ago when an f-line railcar and a bus collided at 6th and market streets. children riding the bus for a summer field trip are among the injured but police say most of the injuries are minor. there is some roadblockage there. so traffic is expected to be pretty bad. this happened at 6th and market, a muni accident about one hour ago. benicia firefighters are getting a different kind of training today. it comes in the form of an advanced rescue swimmer class.

brian flores is live to tell us why this type of class is so important for this community. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: hi, tori. benicia is considered a waterfront community but before they had to rely on outside agencies just like the coast guard if there was ever a water rescue but after training today, they won't have to do that anymore. about ten firefighters from benicia and american canyon combined for this training. there were three different stations that the firefighters had to go through. it included going through an obstacle course on the boat, also being able to place channel markers in the water, dropping rescuers in the water and rescuing swimmers. the firefighters went through basic training last summer and will complete the advanced portion today. but the most important thing is that benicia firefighters can initiate their own rescue instead of calling for outside help. >> we've had a program in the past. we didn't maintain it to keep it up and we are being

proactive and getting our folks trained now. >> reporter: fire officials say there are about 12 rescuers a year from windsurfers, kite surfers and that the currents can be deceiving as well. going from four feet to as deep as 80 feet. they say the faster they can get in the te's a conference bo only for the firefighters but the community. >> it's incredible important for us. we -- incredibly important for us. we -- having this training and getting the ability to get into the water to effect a rescue will be critical for our people here. >> reporter: an outside company called sierra rescue is ininteresting the benicia and -- is training the benicia firefighters. but despite the fact their personnel are trained, they are in need of boats and other water gear. they will get that gear, depending upon the budget.

the training ends at 5:00. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. the ohio man accused of kidnapping three women and told had holding them captive for a decade has pleaded not guilty. 52-year-old ariel castro kept his head down during today's arraignment and did not speak. his attorney entered the plea on his behalf. a 142-page grand jury indictment lists 329 charges against castro. immigration advocates are calling for the halt of a father's day deportation that will separate a northern california army soldier from his wife and new baby. karla garland is being sent back to the phillippines with her baby this sunday under the controversial s-com program. the process began with a minor arrest. she was never convicted. with her husband by her side, she said i.c.e. officials tricked her into signing away her rights. >> they told me if i signed, i would be back in a few months. they said if i asked to see a

judge, i would be deported anyway and be barred from returning. they didn't tell me i was emjill to apply for a green card -- eligible to apply for a green yard. >> she later learned she would not be allowed back for ten years. this program has lead to the deportation of ,0 californians. most had no convictions or just minor ones. the aclu has filed a lawsuit. state lawmakers are considering legislation to limit its scope. bryan stow is back at home in santa cruz county. it's not by choice. his insurance company stopped to pay for his rehabilitation. he was receiving 24-hour care at a facility in bakersfield. his family says they are very happy to have him back home but they also think he could have benefited from staying longer in the facility and receiving physical therapy five days a week.

crews say a ferocious wildfire in colorado may have destroyed as many as 100 homes overnight. the fire started yesterday, northeast of colorado springs. it's burned about 12 square miles and forced the evacuation of more than 7,000 people. crews are battling record heat and gusty winds. authorities are urging people to heed those evacuation orders saying people who decide to stay could be putting their lives at risk. our local weather pattern fairly quiet. no major heat. warm to mild comfortable temperatures out there. this is out in san francisco bay. nothing but clear skies. shaping up to be very nice across the entire bay area on live stormtracker2, you will notice the fog, it's not here, it's to the south. we have a northerly flow pushing the fog to the south. as a result a lot of clear skies. here's the fog bank to the south of monterey bay as you can see here closer to the big
