bicyclist in san jose at the wrong place at the wrong time. janine de la vega is there and you spoke with the couple who took her in and considered her a daughter. >> reporter: yes, i did, the coroner has not revealed her identity but the couple says she is 23-year-old shala, sip bring ando, they are devastated and say she has lived with them for the past three years and with her young daughter as well whom they hope to take in as a fast tor child. the coupley, katie and jeff provided us with pictures of her whom they describe as shy and say she had been in 11 foster holmes and aged out of the system and their son befriended her when she was pregnant and had nowhere to go. they helped her get her ged and took her out to dinner to celebrate she had gotten a dog as a dog groomer and was on that way to her job on her bicycle when a delivery truck collided with a trump truck, it

the cause is being investigated. witnesses say it is a dangerous area because a city street goes right through the market. we now know the identity of a man killed yesterday at a work place accident in cupertino, the santa clara county medical examiner's office says 49-year-old jose gonzalez was killed at thestein creek quarry while driving some type of large vehicle. the quarry tills ktvu they are open for business today and that they will call us back with an official comment. this latest accident comes two days after an elevator mechanic was hit and killed by a counter weight at the new 49er's levy stadium in santa collar. a vice-president joe biden will arrive in the bay area in a few hours. he will be making a quick visit in an upscale san francisco neighborhood. tara moriarty joins us live from the area where the vice- president won't get a warm welcome from every one. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon, that's right, sometime before

fight sex trafficking in the city. this the first to focus on sex trafficking and exploitation. they will have access to the database. and officials say the fbi will also help track down suspects who cross state lines. officers conducting and undercover sting arrested a pet a petalooma man yesterday. the said he wanted to meet a minor with the accident to inflict abuse and was booked in jail. oakland police and fire investigators are both looking into a fire on 79th avenue. it started on a back porch and did not do much damage but it is at the same house where someone spray painted graffiti early yesterday more than with a homo phobic slur and the word stop snitching. no one was home when the fire

started. police found a spray paint can in the bushes nearby. a vote belonging to a registered sex offender is stuck on the shore of a popular east bay park and that has locals upset. it has been beachd for weeks in richmond near the children's playground. police say the boat's ner donna olson was released from jail for not disclosing his whereabouts however he is not restrictd from being around children because he was convicted of a misdemeanor sex crime. >> i would be totally upset, i am furious, thank goodness my kids are older now and i don't have to worry about it but there are parents i talked to that are upset and really want the boat removed. >> police set a deadline of june 24th for olson to move the boat. if he doesn't the city will

have the authority to destroy it under nuisance abatement laws. breaking news from sacramento, word just came in 10 minutes ago the california senate has passed 96.3 billion dollar statedg th houses of the legislature went into session a little over two hours ago. governor brown has put fort a spending plan that would give more money to schools that have a lot of low income students, those with low scores in english proefficiency and those attended by foster children. the democrats majority is large enough that they can pass a budget without any republican support. construction can start on california's high speed rail system according to federal rail officials. the government gave its approval for work to start this summer on the first 65 miles of track between fresno and merced. the bullet train is supposed to

run there if completed but there is a lawsuit to stop them. we are getting word of delays in bart following a small fire on the tracks between daily city and balboa park over an hour ago. they say the fire is out but discovered a problem with the equipment that allows trains to move between sets of tracks so trains are running slower than usual through the area. trains from the east bay are being turned around at 24th street station. bart is working to fix the problem but has no estimated time when full-service will be restored. nearly two dozen inmates were honored this morning at the san francisco hall of justice. >> mario barbosa. >> a graduation ceremony was held for 20 men and women who earned their high school diploma or ged while behind bars, family, friends and others attended the ceremony. the work was done through the 5 keys charter school, the first in the nation public charter high school to operate in a county jail.

firefighters in colorado say they have gotten the upper hand on the new deadly black forest fire which has destroyed hundreds of home. the firestone near colorado springs is still at 25 square miles, officials say that is due to lighter winds and firefighters stamping out flare- ups, nearly 280 homes have been destroyed and two people were killed tuesday while trying to flee. about 38,000 people have been ordered to evacuate the fire area. >> i cried for about an hour

yesterday. today i feel a little bit better but then you get to thinking about how it is not over. we got a long way to go. >> the colorado national guard is assisting firefighters with helicopters, planes, trucks and personnel. we checked with cal fire today and it says it is also ready to assist colorado firefighters but have not yet been asked to send crews to help. san jose's fire chief is leaving the bay area's largest city and heading to las vegas, chief willy mcdonald made the announcement yesterday. the five-year-old veteran firefighter has been san jose's fire chief for the past three years. mcdonald also takes a pay cut with the new job, leaving a 200,000 dollar salary in exchange for 150,000 dollars in las vegas. mcdonald becomes the second public safety leader in san jose to step down this year. in january chris moore retired as san jose's police chief. city leaders are still looking for his replacement. a strike is looming for the

two largest unions of civilian workers in oakland. members of the union's representing city tree trimmers, truck drivers and engineers, voted to authorize a strike. a proposed two day strike could happen around the 4th of july holiday, although no official date has been set. the workers say they have not yet made -- they have not had raises since 2007 and are now being asked for pay more for their health and pension benefits. 2300 bart workers are also considering working off the job after the bart board proved a new budget that makes replacing trains the top priority. they are currently in contract talks but have asked for a state mediator. the bart general manager says costs need to be contained. >> their medical and pension benefits have gone up significantly. the equivalent of 1% a year raise. >> our members gave up 100 million dollars in cuts last year. >> more talks are already

underway today and are expected to continue on monday. and new at noon there is no question that the bay lights are beautiful at night but until now there was concern whether it was fully funded. that concern is not a problem anymore as a donor has stepped forward to fully fund it. brian flores will let us know who it is. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon, there noise question the view is spectacular and gets better with the bay lights on at night. no secret either there is problems with the lights, about a million dollars short in funding and problems with the lights themselves but a priest donor has stepped up once again because he says he loves it so much. matt already donated 100,000 dollars when the project got off the ground but when word got around the project was still 1.5 million dollars short of the 8 million dollars needed he contacted project organizes and said he would fund the rest

of the project. that conversation took place about a week ago. the funding will now go toward keeping the project team in place and toward maintenance of the lights. >> 6.5 million or -- in generous support has come to this project and he was checking in and saying how you are doing on this and i told him what our numbers were to finish it and said you know i might be able to help and by god he did. >> the other bit of good news about the bay lights and it is no secret some of the lights were were not working or stuck on and off. the artist programmed them so many besides those in the know would know but they say it contributed to the lights not working properly and in a week or so crews will be back on the bridge temporarily replacing them in time for the america's cup and, of course the summer events and also working with them in building a more long- term solution. >> a little bit of moisture was getting into the nodes and we

identified that problem and have both a short-term plan to correct it so it looks good and brilliant into the america's cup starting july 4th and the opener of the new beautiful bay bridge this fall. >> organizers say the other bit of good news will allow for the bay lights to be illuminated every night for the next two years and yes, still taking donations and responderships for the display and even talking about keeping the lights display up permanently but at this point they are taking it 1 step and one light at a time. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> there could be another scuffle tonight between protesters and police in san francisco over land known as the hayes valley farm. this evening at 6:00 p.m. a group of protesters kicked off the land are vowing to return. we were there live yesterday as police cleared the site in the morning then several protesters

degrees, so 60s at the coast, 70s around the bay, low 80s inland. as we get into the afternoon temperatures will continue to warm. today is the warmest day. if you just don't like the heat we have a cool down in store for your weekend. a live look at storm tracker 2, you can see a few high clouds passing over and it is really about it. patchy fog expected to develop later tonight and by tomorrow morning i expect we will wake up with some hugging the coastline but for today plenty of sunshine. this is the system that will bring us the cool down. it is going to bring back the onshore flow and the low clouds and it will bring us cooler temperatures. tomorrow the cooling trend begins and will last into father's day and beyond as we get into early next week some of the coolest temperatures. let's talk about the weekend. for today mostly sunny skies, temperatures nearing 90. for some of our warmer spots. you can see right down along the central valley as well. it actually has a red flag warning for that dry north wind blowing in some areas. by tomorrow in addition to the fog the onshore breeze, temperatures will drop 5 to 10
