is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 p.m. >> good evening. i am ken pritchett in for ken wayne. >> i am heather holmes. we begin with breaking news in san francisco. streets are returning to normal following a natural gas leak. >> it was reported near 4th and market streets. as a result several businesses and apartments were evacuated. ktvu's patey l is here with -- patti lee is here with the latest. >> reporter: we are live and across thstreet is the -- the street is the scene of the gas leak that effected thousands of people and continues to do so. you could see there is traffic, it is starting to move. two lanes of the street are still blocked off to protect the workers who are expected to stay on scene for the next few hours. >> reporter: 80 seniors boarded this bus to get them away from a gas leak.

>> this woman panicked when she found out her mother didn't evacuate. neither did others. it is the chaos and confusion that happened this afternoon. >> i was concerned when there is gas, things could blow up. >> reporter: he was waiting to return to his car. pg&e started working on it by 12:30 p.m. during the time san francisco fire and police crews shut down streets, redirected traffic and evacuated buildings just in case. >> the center, the museum, the convention center, the garden, and several apartment buildings near the area have been evacuated. >> normally slow sunday but it is father's day so we are busy. >> reporter: they were trying to decide whether or not to open or close for the day.

it turned out they will stay open with pizza and salads. that is the case for the restaurant next door. i talked to pg&e a few minutes ago. right now they are still checking the buildings and the pilot lights will go on but that will take several hours. reporting live in san francisco, patti lee, ktvu channel 2 news. more breaking news. this time out of crocket. ktvu channel 2 news crews got this fire. the fire department says it started at 3:45 p.m. this afternoon. the third alarm was called for structure fire prevention. the california highway patrol says the cummings skyway off ramp is closed and traffic is backed up in the area because of poor visibility. something that will come into play is the wind.

let's check in with mark tamayo. what is it like out there right now? >> as you would expect this time of day, this bay area, winds are picking up, 15-20 miles per hour. we did warm up but not extremely hot. right now 70 degrees. the winds are the biggest concern right now. here is a closer inspection. we have a breeze moving out of the west, to southwest. from this direction. that is a challenge for fire crews. some of the latest observations with the reports out here, you can see, around the region, southwest at 14 miles per hour, winds sustained 23 miles per hour. in general winds are breezy. 15-25 miles per hour. we will continue to keep an eye on the fire conditions, the wind conditions and a temperature change. we will have that.

similar problems but this time his behavior was much worse. matter of inches might have been the difference for a boy salt in his bed in -- shot in his bed in oakland. the bullets came through the walls this morning. we have new information from ktvu's eric rasmussen who is live at children's hospital where the boy is recovering tonight. eric? >> reporter: i have been exchanging text messages with a family member. he is still recovering from a bullet that grazed him in the shoulder. it was one of many bullets and today they took us inside to so where the boy was shot. >> reporter: the bullet hole next to the pillow where he was resting. the boys were sharing this bed when someone started shooting into their home. >> he was closest to the wall.

harm someone. >> reporter: the family says he should be able to go home in a day or two. police are looking into a report of a white car driving away from the scene at the time of the shooting and they are checking to see if it is related. eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. investigators are looking for the shooters who killed a young man. police say the victim, an 18- year-old man was shot while he stood in a driveway around 11:30 p.m. last night. family rushed the victim to the hospital where he died. no one else was hurt. this is the 11th homicide of the year. a 12-year-old boy delivering newspapers in sacramento was killed this morning when the truck he was in flipped over. the boy was ejected and as you saw in the pictures, they could be seen all over the freeway. the driver, this woman, was

arrested on suspicion of dui. the driver and a child were taken to the hospital where non- life threatening injuries. a 10-year-old was also in the suv but not hurt. police are asking for help finding a missing man with dementia. he walked away from his home at 6:30 a.m. yesterday. police say he is considered at risk because of his mental condition. he is african-american man with a beard, a bald head and brown eyes. he is around 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 140 pounds. he was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black sweat pants. anyone with information is asked to call police. mother of three and a man were the winners at today's san francisco marathon. ktvu's alex savage tells us there was increased security this year because of the boston marathon bombings. >> and they are off. >> the first runners left the finish line before the sun was up. making their way along the water front, two hours and 25

morning. his girlfriend, who hasn't been identified, was found beaten to death yesterday morning. investigators say he admitted to having a physical fight with the victim. when she lost consciousness dumped her body on to the street. police say an argument between two men this weekend effectilated into a stabbing yesterday -- escalated into a stabbing yesterday. the victim, a 43-year-old man, made his way to the hospital. he is expected to recover. police later located the man is arrested him. he was later booked into the jail in martinez. there are questions about whether a collapsed restaurant deck in miami was properly inspected. a deck with a base collapsed
