and i will show you that warming trend in that extended forecast and i will have your numbers as well, good morning, sal. good morning, 880 is getting more crowded as you head from berkeley and head to the mcarthur maze but it is certainly not stop and go but it is getting slower. we will look at the tree that came down and police think it may have been knocked down during a hit-and-run. and on san leandro, south of 77 right near the coliseum, witnesses say a big-rig came through and now they will be putting it into the chipper so it will be a little while and the situation is being handled right now. let's go back to the desk. >> we are getting new information about a tragic dog attack and it happened yesterday where the little boy lived with his grandparents. tara moriarty is out there now

and you are talking to neighbors who are telling you the little boy has died. tara? >> reporter: that's right, he could hear a bunch of children crying and screaming and he said he didn't realize at the time there had been a deadly malling but he and other neighbors are surprised this particular dog attacked because they had seen it on several occasions without a leash and it seemed very friendly. all of this unfolded around 11:00 on elizabeth way, attacked by a pit bull mix, he was rushed to the hospital at stamford and we are told he died because he lost too much blood. he lived on this street in his grandparents' house along with several cousins. firefighters themselves had a rough time with this response given the age of the child and the fact that there were a lot of other children who witnessed

the attack and it was emotionally taxing on everyone. they are expected to release more details and there are reports that the dog and another dog inside the home were taken away by animal control. ktvu channel 2 morning news. police are investigating a hit-and-run crash which happened on a busy stretch of road. joining us from san jose, bikers that used this area faced dangerous conditions, janine? >> reporter: yes, on taylor treat, it -- street it gets fairly busy and a man was hit on an overpass and police hope it is fresh in people's mind, they need tips on the car to catch the driver responsible. it happened 3:25 yesterday at the beginning of rush hour.

several people called 911 to report a man was down on the ground riding his bike. the man was knocked out of his shoes and died at the scene. a white bumper of the car was gathered at the scene, police gathered as much evidence as they could but they need more witnesses to come forward. they noticed a lot of speeding in the area. >> people are riding weeks in this area and i don't feel safe and what i do is stay under the bridge and take a different route. >> reporter: there have been 19 deadly traffic accidents in san jose and 13 victims were either riding or walking their bikes. that number is too high and it could be due to several factors, if a bicyclist is riding safely.

you are looking at the guadeloupe trail and this is where it happened over the overpass and they have seen it go up rather than using a bike lane over this overpass. so, again, the victims' identity has not been released yet but we are hoping to get an update to see if anybody has called in any tips overnight. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 morning news. also this morning, police in vallejo are searching for suspects in a deadly driveby shooting. one woman was killed, two other people were wounded when somebody fired gunshots into a home on frisbee street yesterday evening. a woman said two grown children live in that home but it is still not clear and they have strong evidence this is gang related. we are learning more about

an assault which happened sunday night in a secure treatment area where 70 patients are housed. a female nurse was grabbed from behind by a male patient with a long history of sexual assault. another patient punched the man and activated a personal alarm and the patient was arrested. police in walnut creek are searching for two men who robbed a holiday inn. both suspects are described as african-american men 5-foot 11 with thin builds : the first suspect was seen wearing a dark hat and red shoes. the second suspect was seen whering -- wearing a green sweatshirt and black shoes. if you have any information

call walnut creek police. tonight city officials will debate a possible new smoking ordinance. if it is approved, they will be banned in the downtown shopping area and in other parts of the city. smoking will be prohibited in city run parks and they will no longer be allowed to smoke in balconies and common areas. they showed the adult smoking rate has done down -- gone down 13%. health officials now are investigating why the number has gone down. last year the center for disease control started a graphic antismoking campaign but it is still the leading cause of death in the united states. and at state beaches, it is

causing a wave of emotions and historical parking has been free at the beach and they want to start charging $8 for parking. sonoma county supervisors said no to this controversial idea and tonight state officials will be talking about their plans for the coastal commission. they are expected to formally explain a recall of millions of jeeps. they have gas tanks am mounted behind the rear axle and that causes a rear-end collision and chrysler says they are as safe as similar vehicles on the road. they may make the final decision to issue a recall. sal, you have the toll plaza ready for the drive? >> yes, it's very crowded

getting into san francisco and let's go right to the picture here. it is backed up for a 25 minute delay as you get into the city and we are trying to get a look at the city, and southbound 101 traffic looks good here and there is an injury accident reported with a motorcycle at paul avenue so show you, so the traffic in san francisco is getting slower and you may want to think about using the peninsular. it brought us this nice mild weather and it is inching closer to the coast and for today it will continue to bring us that on shore breeze and low clouds areas around livermore reporting hardy conditions and i want to take you 140 miles to

the north eureka and redding reporting clouds in that direction but for us we are looking at the on shore breeze and the low clouds and the cooler air is continuing in our on shore breeze and in napa reporting 15 and 10 in oakland and the hills. 44 miles per hour over mt. deb. cool and presidentzy outside and it will be cool and breezy anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour in and around the bay area today. 62 san francisco, 71 san jose and to put it into perspective, we are 5 to 10 degrees cooler than yesterday. it will feel mild in many areas and this may be your kind of

weather. stick around and we'll see an upward trend tomorrow and it will be a modest bump in temperatures but as we get into the first weekend of summer temperatures will be warming upper 80s to lower 90s friday and saturday and a tad cooler on sunday. i will have another look at your numbers coming up. it could create new jobs here in the u.s. a big announcement from the pentagon could change the way women serve in the military. right now it is a good team to do it and we have some trouble on the way and we will tell you more about that coming up.

. welcome back, new from iraq, 24 people killed in a mosque in baghdad. the first bomb are blew himself up at a security checkpoint and a second bomber slipped into the mosque while worshipers were praying and dozens more were wounded in that attack. ahmed wali karzai announced afghan forces are taking the lead in their country and the u.s. led coalition will now shift to a supporting role. the hand over claims the role for 60,000 american troops to come home by the end of next

year. today the pentagon is said to put women in combat. according to the associated press, women can return home as navy seals one year later. among them their would be one common standard and more women will be able to advance their careers to senior ranges. as they report, today's topics include international rang and avoiding taxes. president barack obama is meeting with leaders from the uk germany and france. david cameron was in agreement to evade tax evasions and some

in congress were frustrated they found loopholes and they were managed to pay just 2% in taxes in ireland as opposed to 40% in taxes to the u.s. also sweeping trade agreements to the u.s. as it begins next month and it lowers taxes and waters down rules that right now hip der trade. cameron -- hinder trade. the other big topics are the civil war in syria. it appears president barack obama and other g-8 leaders have gotten vladimir puntin on board with the peace conference and they want to bring syria on board to see if they can end it peacefully. now they are expected in august at the earliest. live in washington, kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 morning news. the house judiciary committee will vote on a

sponsored bill to give new powers to punish people in this country illegally. now groups don't like this measure when the senate is considering a comprehensive immigration bill. however the senate bill does not ensure that immigration laws are enforced. the bill up for a vote today gives local law enforcement the power to legalize immigration laws and they will reduce gun violence. back in april it was the senate's rejection of gun control legislation but the vice-president will report that 21 of the 23 regulations president barack obama ordered had been implemented after the school shooting.

this upset gun manufactures. at the meeting they will discuss new investment policies and the idea is not to produce firearms that are illegal under california's assault weapons' ban. recently they put in their fire investment as well. there has been a crash in san francisco where? >> just in the south end of the city near silver avenue just passed interstate 280, this crash is there and they are seriously injured and a couple of lanes are blocked along with the rescue captain and the medics. the best alternate for you leaving the city is to avoid 101 together and it is actually a pretty decent drive and you will go around but it will be better for you, use 380 if you want to reconnect with 101. let's go to the bay bridge and it is a big backup getting on

to the span about 25 minute delay there. and if you are driving in san jose, it looks good northbound on 280 getting up to highway 17. 618, let's go to rosemary. cooler air and we have low clouds floating across san francisco, partly to mostly cloudy skies around the bay area and areas over the north bay and those clouds have stretched over areas of livermore and down to san jose so we are talking about this cool down and today is expected to be the coolest day and look at what we are expecting. for our inland communities, 72 is expected and we will be a few degrees cooler with the on shore breeze with us this morning and continuing for your afternoon. and holding in the 50s, it does not feel too bad especially if

you have the sunshine overhead and i am seeing them pick up in the howling overhead and by lunchtime upper 50s at the bay just barely touching 70 degrees for concord and livermore and as we get in they will get all the way into the central valley to hit 80s so we will be cool at least this time of year, it will feel like early spring rather than late spring. 68 for oakland and fremont. 75 for fairfield, a cool day at the coast and sea breeze for the afternoon. we finally turned the corner on this trend and we begin a slight warmup for mid-week wednesday and summer arrives thursday and for the first weekend of summer we will have 90 degrees friday and saturday and a slight cool down on

sunday. not sure if i got ahead of myself, back to the desk. consumer prices ended up in may, higher costs in housing were offset by lower food prices and the rain storm is lower than what economists predicted which is mild. u.s. consumers are more satisfied with the airline but it still ranks and inn flight receives low grades and jet blue received the highest mark, southwest a very close second and i think the only other two don't check for bags so that could have something to do with it. a new push to make limousines safer after that horrible tragic accident. why some limo drivers say those

continue their debate on new legislation designed to make limousine safer. state senators will require them to have safety doors and windows that can be pushed out from the inside. >> this will put me out of business. >> you don't have the opportunity to exit because you only have one exit and -- exit and you have to go through a fire to exit, clearly that is not an exit. >> they will require all limousine to carry fire extinguishers and this is in response to that tragic fire -- tragedy fire on the san mateo, five women were killed when they could not escape the fast moving fire. they are protecting

passengers after her bus was hit by gunfire two weeks ago. >> nobody said they wanted to get off, i took everybody to the emergency room. i drove straight there. >> and yesterday mayor ed lee presented her with an award for her bravery and gave her a big hug. the shooting happened not far from san francisco general hospital. let's check in with sal, you are watching the sunole grade. >> we have sought bound 101 is going to be slow and one person is being transported to general hospital in serious condition. taking a look at the sunole grade 680 traffic does look good, let's go to rosemary. marine layer is giving us a

traffic and they have been out there since 4:30 this morning so do they know how that tree went down? what happened? >> reporter: yes, police have the thought that this was a hit- and-run crash involving a big- rig and they believe the big- rig slammed into the tree where you can see water bubbling out of the walkway and they are now trying to find the driver who hit this tree very early this morning that tree in turn fell into the roadway. >> this was the scene a short time ago as an oakland public works worked to clear away this tree that for a couple of hours had been blocking both areas just south of 77th area. the crash was reported this morning and they told police

they were making a u-turn when it struck the tree and drove off. it sent water rushing into the street this morning and the accident happened right outside of a business that produces metal castings but police are also saying to track down the driver and at this point they don't have a description on the big-rig or the person who was driving it but they will continue to investigate but traffic is flowing once again in oakland. alex savage, ktvu channel 2 morning news. we are getting new information about that tragic dog attack on a 6-year-old boy, it happened at home where the child lived with his grandparents. tara moriarty has been talking to neighbors out there who tell her the little boy has died, tara? >> reporter: we still have not seen anybody come in or out of

the house and we have spoken to neighbors and they say they could hear screams and cries coming from the backyard at the home yesterday morning and of course they did not realize a deadly attack occurred. in fact the dog was a friendly dog and they had seen the dog walking without a leash so a lot of them expressed surprise. this happened at 11:30 elizabeth way, yesterday morning he was rushed to packerred hospital at stamford and we are told he died because he lost too much blood. he lived in this house along with several cousins in his grandparent's house, firefighters even had a rough time with this response given the age of the child and there are also other children who witnessed the attack. they are expected to release more details later this morning

and we are hearing reports that, that dog involved in the attack and another dog were taken away by animal control. >> ktvu channel 2 morning news. the man now known for his naked rant is expected in court today. yesterday 24-year-old perez was arrested and charged with felony false imprisonment and sexual battery. this is perez jumping around the 16th street station and it shows him harassing bart workers and he is being held on $100,000 bail and he is facing deportation to his native columbia. they are hope being the surveillance video will help two teenage girls. it shows the girls walking up

to a 68-year-old woman and grabbing her two bags. the woman tried to hold on but couldn't. it happened at 830 on the t- line in the bay view district and the suspects are just 13 and 14 years old. later this morning a prayer service will be held for two shooting victims. they were shot and killed in the visitation valley neighborhood. police say the men were gang members. now they are organizing the 10:00 a.m. prayer service and it will be held at the site where the victims died. the gang raped woman gave emotional testimony. she was 16 at the time of the attack in 2009. the now 20-year-old woman said

she left the homecoming dance because she had a migraine headache and a friend called her to sit with her and other boys but she doesn't remember much of anything else. she woke up in the hospital in excruciating pain and she said she did not drink that night but there was alcohol in her system. and alleged killing which dates back while giving an opening statement yesterday. joseph naso is representing himself and he told jurors and i am quote being, i am not the monster who killed these women, i did not do that. the trial is expected to run through november. they will hold another rally outside at&t park. it will begin shortly before

stretching in michael arnett livermore and concord is most live -- stretching in around when and around -- in and around livermore. all in all temperatures are a lot like yesterday with that on shore breeze and for the afternoon a sea breeze will increase and our temperatures will continue to cool. 73 for napa 70 in novato, 67 in oakland low 70s in concord, low 80s in your neighborhood and you will feel a difference today. 71 san jose, and upper 60s to lower 70s, 62 degrees in san francisco and a few degrees cooler for you as well. the extended forecast, we begin a turnaround and for tomorrow it will be slight in the beginning and a better one for your weekend in view and saturday and sunday for inland communities and mid-80s for sunday and 60s at the coast.

back to the desk. yahoo is talking about how many times they offered information on the account holders. u.s. authorities asked for data, 12,000 to 13,000 times in 6 months. the most common requests were for kidnapping and fraud investigations but those were for intelligence requests. edward snowedden remains in hiding but he took part in an online chat on the guardian newspaper's website. when asked if he gave secrets, he said no and gave them a predictable smear. he commended on dick cheney calling him a trader and he said being called a trader by dick cheney is an honor. they took a wrong turn...

. >> a cooler day for most and breezy for some. here is a look at some of the top stories we are following at 6:23, they have cleaned up that big downed tree which blocked several lanes of traffic on san leandro street. witnesses say a big-rig truck hit that tree and drove off. and they are also searching for suspects in a deadly driveby shooting. one person was killed and somebody fired gunshots into a home on frisbee street yesterday afternoon. and the search goes on for

a hit-and-run crash which hit a bicyclist antigen mean says -- and janine said it happened on a busy stretch of roadway. >> reporter: you can see as it goes up over the overpass, the bike kill lane disappears as you approach 87 and that's where the bicyclist was hit and killed. people say they usually avoid being on this side of the street or bring their bike on top of the sidewalk because of the danger. it happened at 3:25 in the afternoon and several people called to report a cyclist down but they had no information on what vehicle hit and killed the person. it appears a white bumper was just yards away from the victim's bike and they are looking for any clues which may lead them to the driver. >> how many people actually saw

convenience store a mile away. the accident happened near hills dale avenue. the toyota hit a row of parked cars and the passenger, henry died at the scene. the 18-year-old driver died on suspicion of dui and vehicular manslaughter. they were plucked from the side of a cliff. on saturday they tried to hike a 600-foot peak but after heading up the trail they found themselves facing a massive gap and nowhere to go. >> i realized, wow, we are really high up and there is no way down. >> because of the heat and high wind, they could not lower anybody down to rescue them and instead they had to lower a

harnesses the boys had to put themselves in and they said it was scary dangling in the air and they will never develop to your off the trail. there is a major yacht race controversy and it involves the deadly accident in the san francisco bay. a stunning accusation coming up on mornings on 2 at 7:03 this morning. and paramedics will be at the airport and it is only a practice drill. the faa calls it an emergency drill between 9:00 and noon today. it's being called the first major glitch of the new all tolling system. they have learned about a flood of complaints about the new billing system failing to keep up with payments.

. welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. a live look at the dow jones industrial average and the big board, it is up almost better than expected considering we are looking at a quiet market around the world before the fed meeting but the nasdaq and s&p 500 are up as well. all right, pam, more than 700 firefighters are still fighting a big fire near yosemite park and it is burning near her pose is a -- mariposa. it is only 15% contained and yesterday 115 homes were evacuated. the tough winds are making it hard for those tough winds to be put out -- fire is hard to be put out because of those winds. and a fire started on thompson lane just west of highway 101.
