tumbling. 60s around the bay. i will have a tee tailed look -- detailed look coming up. sal? >> we have a live look at the very seriously damaged motorcycle in this crash that occurred about an hour and a half ago. southbound 101 near silver avenue. the person on this bike was very seriously injured and taken to the hospital. they are doing an investigation here. southbound 101, you can see they are temporarily holding all of the lanes on southbound 101. this is a live picture. southbound 101 traffic is at a standstill as you come down through. i know that 101 southbound is slow because if i look -- guys, if you can go to the 555 cal camera for me real quick. i want to show you -- do we have it there? can we route that? no, we cannot. all right. southbound 101 traffic is gonna be slow. i can see on my monitor that southbound 101 is very, very slow all the way across the city. this is to be avoided.

don't use 101. use 280 to get out of town. don't even bother with 101. another traffic update is just minutes ahead. back to the desk. >> all right, sal. we'll follow that. we're beginning with new information about the tragic dog attack on a 6-year-old boy. it happened at a home where the child lived with his grandparents. ktvu's tara moriarty has been on this since 4:30 this morning. you are out there talking to neighbors and they are saying the little boy has died? >> reporter: that's right. this attack only lasted a couple of minutes according to neighbors. they could hear the screams and cries from children from the backyard. they say that they are very surprised to learn that this particular dog attacked the child because they said both of the dogs in the home, which are pit bull mixes, have been seen around the neighborhood without their leashes on before and they were quite friendly.

a lot of people surprised by what happened here on elizabeth way. this all unfolded around 11:00 yesterday morning, a 6-year-old boy attacked by a pit bull mix. he was rushed to lucile packard children's hospital at stanford. we're told the child died because he lost too much blood. a neighbor says the boy lived on the street in his grandparents' home along with cousins. we've reach out to the family. we have not been able to get a response. firefighters had a hard time here given the age of the child and the other children whoens withed the attack. union police are not commenting right now but are expected to release details later this morning. we're hearing reports that the dogs were taken away by animal control. live in union city, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning, about 30 minutes ago, crews in east oakland cleaned up a downed tree that blocked several lanes of traffic. alex savidge is there to tell

us what may have knocked the tree down in oakland. good morning, alex? >> reporter: well, good morning to you. out here you can still see some of the evidence from this early- morning crash. water is gushing up out of the street because a pipe was broken in the accident. police right now believe this was a hit-and-run crash. they are searching for the big rig driver who just drove off. you can see what we believe is a piece of the side mirror on the truck. take a look. you can see how close this truck came to this business right here behind us. we're told no damage was done to the building. this was the scene just about an hour ago as oakland public work crews used a wood chipper to clear away the tree. it had been blocking both of the southbound lanes of san leandro street, just south of 77th avenue. this crash was reported to police at about 3:30 this

morning. that's when bystanders said the truck just drove off. the accident caused a water main break and it sent water in the streets. the building, according to some of the workers i was talking with, doesn't appear to be damaged. we'll bring you out here live -- off obviously crews have repair the -- obviously crews have to repair the line. they don't have a description of the truck involved in the early-morning accident on the driver they are looking for. we're live -- or the driver they are looking for. we're live, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. walnut creek police are looking for two men who robbed a holiday inn. it happened on north main street. two men entered the front of the hotel and demanded cash. once they received the money, they took off running.

here's a description of the suspects. police are looking for two african-american men in their early 20s both were last seen wearing hooded sweatshirts, blue jeans and white gloves. police in vallejo are searching for suspects in a deadly drive-by shooting. one man was killed and two other people were wounded when someone fired gunshots into a home on frisbee street last night. neighbors say a woman and her two grown children live in the home. it's not clear if they are the victims. police say they have strong evidence the shooting is gang- related. this is the second homicide in vallejo in less than 48 hours. 7:07. a major new controversy surrounding the america's cup yacht case. it involves last month's deadly racing boat accident out there in the bay. the head of new zealand's team accuses the swedish team of using the death of one of its members for competitive gain. the swedish team announced it

will probably miss the first month of racing after last month's death of andrew simpson. the new zee land captain feels skipping that early round will give them a clear advantage in the later rounds. the organizers are still promising a smooth race, despite all of the many problems in recent months. they just sent out a news release, updating the events leading up to the big race. opening day ceremonies are set for july 4th. the racing on the bay begins three days later. we'll find out more about brighter street lights to be installed around the city of oakland to help prevent crime. this is an expansion of the pilot program. 37,000 fixtures around the city of oakland will be replaced with l.e.d. lights. the work should be completed in december. jean quan will talk more about this during a 9:00 news

conference. 7:08. emotions are running high over parking frees at state beaches. historically, parking has been free. but state park officials want to start charging $8 for parking. this is not citying well with beach lovers. sonoma county supervisors have already said no to the controversial idea. but tonight, state park officials will be appealing their plans to the coastal commission. sal, you have breaking news coming out of san francisco. what's the latest? >> well, we still have a lot of the lanes closed off and on on 101 southbound before silver avenue here because of this major injury crash involving that motorcycle you see there. cars are getting through. but the -- this tow truck here is waiting for the chp to finish their investigation. that's special evidence collecting tow truck company and southbound 101. they are still doing measurements here. in the two fast lanes right after the 280 interchange. you can see several officers hout there doing measurements

and collecting a lot of information from the scene. the motorcyclist was taken to san francisco general's trauma unit. this bus was involved in this crash. southbound 101 is very slow. i want to show you 101 southbound, slowing from all the way down to the skyway. it slows through the city. don't use 101. use 280 as an alternate route or if you are in the southern part of the city, get yourself often the freeway after the silver avenue onramp. if you are driving, by the way, this morning to the bridges, to the east bay, traffic is moving along okay. northbound 880 near a street there is a crash on the shoulder. it's a little bit slow on 92 heading west. let's head to rosemary. the trough of on the coastline feed -- off the coastline feeding cooler air. giving you a live look over the east bay where we have low clouds pushing inland with a

this crash is affecting 101 and it will soon affect the bay bridge. to get out of the city, use it 80 and avoid 101 -- use 280 and avoid 101 or get yourself on silver avenue. again, southbound 101 they are still doing an investigation at paul avenue -- or at silver avenue because of the crash. let's go back to the desk. all right, happening right now, the house intelligence committee is questioning the head of the national security agency. we're in washington, d.c. as well. we want to take you to a live picture of the hearing room if we can get to it. in the meantime, kyla campbell reports. now we're in the hearing rule.

but ktvu's kyla campbell is here to tell us about more details about the surveillance programs. kyla? >> reporter: yes, mike thompson is on the committee questioning the head of the nsa this hour. we'll take a look at that hearing as well, where lawmakers and witnesses are giving opening statements. keith alexander will testify on how the surveillance programs protect americans rather than intrude. the nsa released information to congressional intelligence committees ahead of the hearing, saying the surveillance programs have have thwarted terror -- have thwarted terror plots in this country and other conditions. in the past six months, there received 12,000 requests. apple, facebook and microsoft released similar information in recent days. we'll continue watching that hearing with the house committee live and have the latest developments for you next hour.

live in washington, kyla campbell, ktvu channel 2 news. computer experts say they detected a new trend in cyber attacks. now, in -- as in the recent case of the raley's cyber attack, experts say criminals are increasingly targeting companies in order to harvest credit and debit card numbers to sell them. that's instead of launching mass attacks by computer viruses or worms. now, in the case of the raley's story, some customers reported fraudulent use of their debit card numbers. it's 7:17. president obama and the other g8 world leaders are a wrapping up their summit in northern ireland right now. this is new video of the leaders walking on the grounds of the summit site today. one item on their agenda, russian president vladimir putin, is the only one of the g8 leaders to support the syrian government. in an invite on pbs, president obama defended his decision to

give the syrian rebels weapons. >> i have been clear if we saw weapons inside of syria, that would change my calculus and it has. >> after the g8 summit wrap ups, the president is off to germany for a two-day visit. the pentagon is set to announce plans to put women in combat. according to the "associated press" women would start to train as army rangers by mid-20 15 and as navy s.e.a.l.s a year later. under the plan there would be one common standard for men and women for each job. supporters say opening company bat roles more women will be able -- combat roles more women will be able to expand. 35-year-old nicole mann is from pen grove in sonoma county.

she's a major in the u.s. marine corps. the new astronauts are expected to use the first human mission to an asteroid sometime within the 2020s. back here on earth, richmond city council is holding a closed-door meeting to talk about what it do about one of their own. councilman corky buzy owns a lot on carlson boulevard. that's where he stores old cars and other items. city prosecutors describe the owner as unlawful, hazardous and unsafe. the city council says it's repeatedly warned him and they've held meetings about the issue. now they are considering possible legal action. we're finding out more about the assault of a worker at napa state hospital. it happened sunday night in a secure treatment area where some 70 patients are housed. state officials say a female nurse was grabbed from behind by a male patient who has a long history of sexual assaults. they say another patient

punched the man and actually helped rescue that nurse. the nurse activated a personal alarm that alerted other hospital staff and that patient was arrested. 7:19. people in one santa cruz neighborhood are being warned about a mountain lion. several sightings were reported yesterday on california, continental and dufore streets. police believe it's the same lion spotted at the lagoon last friday. fliers have been posted and neighbors are being warned to keep a close eye on children and pets. in antioch, three abandoned dogs have a second chance, thanks to the effort, of one man. ramon visa says he found the dogs at canal park. they were huddled together with mo shelter from the sun. the oldest one was nearby but with no food or water. 7:20.

of cabrera as it flew in the stands. the fan in the green shirt caught it and very sure hands there. the driver of a car that police say hit and killed a man trying to dribble a soccer ball, 10,000 miles, the driver has been arrested. richard swanson was trying to dribble a soccer ball from seattle to brazil. only two weeks into the trek, on may 14th, he was hit from behind while walking along highway 101 in oregon. yesterday, the driver of the truck was arrested. he's scheduled to be arraigned today and charged with criminally negligent homicide. state lawmakers in sacramento will continue the debate about new laws to make limousines safer. ellen corbett has authored one bill that would require all limos in california to have new

safety doors and windows that could be pushed out from the inside. however, some limo owners are worried about the cost of these safety improvements. another bill from democrat jerry hill of san mateo would require all limos to have five extinguishers. these -- fire extinguishers. 7:25. we want to check in with sal for another update on that several situation on 101 in san francisco. >> that's right. southbound 101 we have the cash, still active. southbound 101 at silver avenue doing a lengthy investigation. this bus and a motorcycle involved. only one lane is open just before the silver avenue offramp here and traffic is obviously very, very slow in san francisco. motorcyclist still there. they still are to take it away. they are waiting for the investigation to be complete. you can see the tow truck driver waiting for instructions from chp. use a different route.

use 280 instead of 101 to get out of the city. traffic is really, really a mess as it narrows down to one lane. you can see here, southbound 101 from the 80 split. it's just terrible getting to the south part of town. other traffic commutes. 101, san jose, northbound 101 slow from yerba buena slows from 280. 85 is slow getting into downtown san jose. let's go to rosemary. today is going to be a cooler day. it will be -- breezy in many areas. in the hills, the winds are gusting at 30 miles an hour. most of us not feeling the wind. it's a gentle breeze in most cases a little bit breezy through the delta. winds have been fluctuating anywhere from 15 to 20 miles per hour. and latest i saw 25 at fairfield in the airport. for today, temperatures in the 50s as we get into the 10:00 hour. still widespread 50s to low 60s and for the lunch hour, it's going to be mild.

definitely something we've seen here. it's getting busier on taylor street. this is a dicey situation. there's no bike lane at the top of the overpass and that's where the cyclist was hit. the accident happened at 3:25 yesterday afternoon at the beginning of rush hour. several people called 911 to report a man riding his bike was down on the ground. the bike was mangled. the force of theism path knocked him out of his shoes. he died at the scene. cyclists we spoke to say the stretch of taylor is dangerous because, again, the bike lane ends at cars speed a lot. >> it's pretty sketchy right there. i'm only doing this because heading is being repaved. right now -- and yes, this is 100 yards between here and the red light is not super safe.

i don't know if there's a place to stripe but i don't know why they put the preferred bike lane right here. >> reporter: there have been 19 deadly bicycle accidents. 13 were either walking or riding their bikes. here's video we took. one got off his bike on taylor because the lane ends and he put his bike on the sidewalk because it's too risky as he's approaching the freeway. we've put a call in the coroner's office and have not heard back from him as far as the identity of the victim. we know they were trying to get ahold of that person's family. we have yet to receive an update from police. we know police are on his way. the spokesperson is on their way back to the department to get an update from investigators to see if anyone has called in any tips. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:32. now we're getting a look at the two teenaged girls accused of robbing a woman on a muni train

last tuesday in san francisco. take a look. the surveillance video police released to ktvu yesterday is right there. the two girls can be seen walking up to a 68-year-old woman, grabbing her two purses. the woman tried to hold onto them but couldn't do it. this all happened on the t- third line near carol avenue in the bayview district. >> the police say the suspects are around 13 or 14 years old. the 24-year-old naked man who went on the ram page last month at a san francisco b.a.r.t. station is due in court today. yesterday, the 24-year-old was arrested and charged with felony imprisonment and battery. this video shows him heckling passengers and harassing b.a.r.t. employees as well. perez is being held on a $100,000 bail. he's a former acrobat.

he's now facing possibly being tee ported back to colombia. it's being called the first major glitz of the new electric tolling system at the golden gate bridge. hundred of drivers may have been unfairly penalized. mary curry calls it growing pains for the new automaticked -- automated toll system which started 90 days that's. >> a lot of the invoices came back with checks. the checks began to pile up and were processed in the timely manner. >> reporter: curry says the problem only affects a very small number of bridge commuters but they are doing everything possible to solve the problem. new developments in a wildfire burning near yosemite national park. scores of additional homes have

been evacuated. this is on top of the 150 homes already evacuated and hundreds of additional firefighters were called in. so now more than 700 firefighters are on the fire lines there. this fire is burning near mariposa, carston road and highway 140. 140 is still open. calfire says about 1600 acres have bunked. the fire is -- burned. the fire is only 16% contained. limited access is making it difficult for crews to subdue the flames. in sonoma county, 20 acres have been burned in a grass fire. it started on thompson and petaluma. the flames burned barns, chicken coops and out buildings. and more and more homeowners

are using something that could cause problems for firefighters. the trial continues in the joseph naso case. he's accused of killing four kim in crimes that date lack to the 1970s. the lead prosecutor presented dna evidence and showed grim evidence of the four victims yesterday. naso is representing himself. he told jurors "i'm not the monster who killed these women. i did not do that "a large crowd attended the opening arguments. >> i think right now he's just trying to show the human side of himself. >> i think he did address the case clearly, that he had a real potential of being innocent of the crime. >> the naso trial is expected to continue through november. the richmond gang rape trial will continue today, one day after the victim gave very emotional testimony.

she was 16 years old at the time of that attack in 2009. yesterday, the now 20-year-old woman told the court she left the homecoming dance early that night because she had a migraine headache. she said a friend called her over to sit with him and other boys. she said -- she says she doesn't remember much else. she remembers being kicked in the stomach and woke up in the hospital in excruciating pain. she did say she did not drink that not. police say there was alcohol in her system. concession workers will hold another rally outside of at&t park. it begins shortly before the game tonight. 750 workers held a one-day strike last month in their ongoing contract dispute with management. those workers include cashiers, cooks and bar tenders. they -- bartenders. they say they've gone without a raise since 2010. but management said they are offering a fair wage increase.

the lawrence livermore lab is facing budget cuts and hundreds of workers are now without jobs. a spokesperson says so far, 399 employees have accepted buyouts and voluntarily resigned as of last thursday. earlier this year, the lab announced that you have lun larry lab packages would be given up to 600 workers. the spokesperson says most of the people who have left were within five years of retirement. walnut creek may soon have a tough, new smoking ban. city officials will debate it tonight. if approved, smoking would be banned in the downtown shopping center. smoking would be banned in city- run parks. and residents in apartments and condos would be banned from smoking on their balconies and common areas. the serious crash on 101 in san francisco.

sal joins us -- making any progress? >> they are making some progress. southbound 101, this happened about an hour and a half ago or so. major injury crash in san francisco that has narrowed the freeway down to one lane. the chp has been out there for a long time. that bus was involved somehow and a motorcycle. one lane -- this is southbound 101 near the silver avenue onramp. one lane is getting through. the other lanes are blocked. they are still waiting to put this motorcycle up onto the tow truck. chp says it's gonna be a bit. they have to do a thorough investigation when these things happen and traffic is very, very slow. let's take a look at 101 san francisco. it's backed up all the way and may affect the bay bridge. we want to look at highway 20. this is a look at highway 92. as you drive through, you can see traffic is moving along relatively well on the road sensors after the 880 interchange. from 238 to mowry avenue about

over in january. many on wall street not surprised by that. the dow is up 96. nasdaq is up 19. and s&p up 8. some big changes are coming for san francisco's wax museum. the owners of the museum on fisherman's wharf have decided to sell. this will be the last summer people will be able to visit the museum the way it's been for the last half century. rodney fong new unruss the museum founded -- now runs. museum founded by his grandfather. >> we've enjoyed for 50 years entertaining san francisco and the bay area and people from all around the world. and literally millions of visitors. >> the museum will shut its doors on august 15th. the new owner will spend $35 million renovating and expanding it so it can reopen next summer. san jose police investigating a possible connection between a fatal crash and stolen beer.

between a u.s. carmaker and the u.s. government. chrysler is expected to formally file papers today explaining why it is refusing the government's request to recall 2.7 million jeep liberties and jeep cherokees. now, the government says the gas tanks which are mounted behind the rear axle pose a fire danger in some accidents. chrysler says the jeeps are at no more risk than other similar vehicles. >> first thing i thought of was pintos. but i think it's a typical big car business, deal to save money on their end. after the government bailed them out and they are refusing to take care of their customers, it's not a very good thing. i don't like it at all. >> the ntsb began investigating the problem three years ago and

two teenaged boys are talking about their dramatic rescue from the side of a cliff more than 10,000 feet high. on saturday, they tried to hike across anle 600 -- across an 8600-peak. but they found themselves facing a massive gap and nowhere to go. >> i realized wow. we're really high up and there's no way down. >> because of the heat and high winds, the california highway patrol could not lower anyone down to rescue them instead they had to lower down a harness which the boys had to put themselves in. they say it was scary dang. ing so high in the air and will never again venture off the trail. in a couple of hours at 11:00 this morning, san francisco mayor ed lee will raise the rainbow flag at city hall. it's a celebration of lgbt pride month. here's video of mayor lee unfurling the flag last june.

very emotional testimony. yesterday, the now 20-year-old woman told the court she left the high school homecoming dance early that night because she had a migraine. she said a friend called her over to sit with him and other boys. she did testify she does remember being kicked in the stomach and said she woke up in the hospital in excruciating pain. she also said she it not drink that night but police said she did have alcohol in her system. it's being called the first major glitch of the new all- electric tolling system at the golden gate bridge. ktvu news has learned about a flood of complaints about the new billing system failing to keep up with payments. so hundreds of drivers may have been unfairly penalized. bridge spokeswoman mary curry calls the problem growing pains for the new automated tolling system which began just 90 days ago. >> we need to make the fixes as we learn the problem.

392,000 invoices have been mailed out. >> that's not right. they should not be sending out these violations if they can't process them in time. >> curry says the problem openly affects a small percentage of bridge users. she says they are doing everything possible to quickly solve the problem. the biggest battle ever between a u.s. carmaker and the u.s. government. pam cook is live in the newsroom with what's at the center of the fight. >> the u.s. government is requesting a recall of a car it considers dangerous and chrysler is saying no. earlier this month, the ntsb safety administration sent a letter to chrysler asking it to voluntarily recall nearly 3 million suvs. it affects grand cherokees from 1993 through 2004 and jeep liberties from 2002 through 2007. the agency has been investigating the cars for three years and says the plastic gas tanks can rupture

when hit from behind spilling fuel and causing deadly fires. it says 51 people have died in fires in those cars. chrysler responded publicly to the letter stating it did not intend to recall the cars. >> that says you don't care about your customers. customers, that's what you need later on. not very smart. >> probably think about it before i get into a jeep. >> now, chrysler has to file a formal response to the request today. but it is expected to stick to its argument that the cars meet federal standards and that they are safe as -- and that they are as safe as similar cars on the road. ford denied a request in 2011 but when the government threatened to hold a public hearing, ford changed their position. the problem can be solved for about $100 per car, which would total about $270 million, and

crews there, used a wood chipper and they cleaned up that tree. we're also finding out more now about a little boy who died in a pit bull attack. it happened at the child's home in union city. tara moriarty has been out there since 4:30. you are back now with the latest information from outside the home. tara? >> reporter: well, police say that the little boy was playing with the dog and may have been trying to climb on its back when the dog bit the little boy in the head. though the dog owner was very distract, but cooperative and said nothing like this had ever happened before. this all unfolded around 11:30 yesterday morning. police responded to the house on elizabeth way where the family dog, a pit bull mix, attacked 6-year-old nefi. he was rushed to stanford medical center but died four and a half hours later. mains say the family had two pit bull mixes in the home and had no indication that either
