inside the taxi show the moment of impact when the driver strikes and kills a young man in october 2010. the victim was 19 years old. his family and a jury today heard closing statements on what would have been his 22 birthday. >> he was a bright, special person. >> reporter: he is charged with homicide and leaving the scene of an accident. prosecutors say he ran a red light and must have known his struck someone. he drove a half mile from the intersection before his friends caught up with him. climbed into the cab and demanded he go back to the crime scene. he was unsure about what happened but said he had the

right of way. his lawyer said he caused the accident by crossing against the light. he said he never saw him. >> we don't have anger towards him. we are upset we don't have my brother here anymore. >> reporter: the jury got the case this afternoon. if convicted he faces a year in jail on vehicular manslaughter. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. thousands of prisoners may be released. judges ordered governor jerry brown to immediately release inmates to reduce the prison population. they need to cut the inmates by 10,000 by the end of the year. the governor plans to file an appeal. he was convicted of killing a 25-year-old woman and leaving her body stuffed in a garbage

can. ktvu's john sasaki learned she wasn't the only victim of a man who prosecutors are describing the closest thing to a serial killer. >> reporter: her body was found over there a year ago. prosecutors believe he killed possibly two other women. here is a photo. her body was found on may 24 of last year. she wasn't killed here but in stockton. last week the prosecutor secured 15 years to life sentence for this man. he is 35 years old, her then boyfriend. >> he met a new girl. wanted to be with this new girl and didn't want to part ways with his possession. one way to keep your possessions is to get rid of the person that has 50% stake

in him. >> when he confessed he also confessed to killing his wife in mexico in 2007. this is the wedding photo. here is your death certificate. investigators learned of a womb he dated before -- woman he dated who also died. >> i have no idea what her name is, i don't know the circumstances of her death. i know nothing. >> reporter: we talked this afternoon with her sister in southern california and she said once she started dating him he said he was her only family and that is when her family lost contact with her. live, john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news m.. -- news. the fbi needs your help of finding this man accused of

using a fake company to bilk a soft start up company in san francisco out of tens of thousands of dollars. he is 5'10", 165 pounds. he wears dark rimmed glasses and glass -- access to public records will not change after all. they passed a bill removing language that would have given cities and counties the option of complying with open records request. it was originally included in the budget. they said it weakened the public records act. >> this country isn't about whether we should have the transparency. it is about who should pay for it. there is a consensus the state taxpayer shouldn't have to pay. >> the state senate is expected

to take up the bill next week. a spokesperson for the governor says he will sign it. parents could face jail time if they host jail parties are under aged drinking. the pit burgh city counsel approved it. parents could be fined and even go to jail. if it gets final approval it would take effect in august. hundreds of nurses are rallying against the pipeline. >> the demonstrators marched across the golden gate bridge today. organizers say they are concerned about the pipeline and climate change. >> nurses are out here because the health of the planet is at stake. we see patients that are

suffering. >> the pipeline would bring oil from canada to the gulf of mexico but first it must pass an assessment from the state department. new at 6:00 p.m. there could be long awaited relief for commuters. saturday interstate 880 will look different with new carpool lanes. ktvu's robert handa joins us from a section of the freeway. robert? >> reporter: we are standing along side one of the worst freeway stretches in the bay area. 880 here in san jose, this is a familiar sight but soon new lanes will merge relief with the stress. >> reporter: things are going to change soon on interstate 880 and for once things will be moving fast since usually during commute hours -- >> dead stop.

one of the larges medical marijuana clubs in the bay area is closer to being shut down

tonight. a judge dismissed oakland's challenge to a crack down on medical marijuana dispensaries. which means the doors could be closed. the city as had been fighting to keep the club open. the owner is vowing to keep fighting and has no plans to close down. oakland expected to take in a million dollars in sales tax revenue this year. we have new information on a shooting that happened yesterday in san jose. police say the victim of the shooting has now died. he has been identified as a 16- year-old. 6:00 p.m. last night someone opened fire, the victim was rushed to the hospital and he died today. no suspects have been arrested but police believe the shooting was gang related. this was the 25th killing in san jose. signs at the scene of a hit and run in san jose are urging the driver to term themselves in. the bicyclist was killed monday

afternoon when he was hit by an suv on the taylor street over crossing. the driver took off. one bicyclist says that area could be tricky for bike riders and drivers. >> trying to exit to get off on to the freeway and the bike lane has to shift to the middle of the road and sometimes -- i don't know whose fault it was but i could see it being a accident and panic and running. >> the san jose police describe the suspect vehicle as a 2000 model dodge dorango or dakota. it is dirty white, light gray or silver. a private showing of the movie fruitvale station about the death of oscar grant is about to get underway in oakland. he was shot and killed by a bart police officer 2009. ktvu's amber lee is live where the guests are arriving for the

yesterday morning. the resident called 911 and minutes later officers responded. when the burglar started to run they took him into custody. facebook is taking on twitter, adding a video feature to instagram. they gave reporters a look today at facebook headquarters. users will be able to record 15 second clips now and they could add the same filters users are familiar with. the app competes with twitter's vine which lets people make 6 second videos. tummler is now a part of yahoo. they completed the deep. in a statement the ceo said she is thrilled to officially welcome the team into the mix. it represents her boldest and most expensive move yet since she took the job to lead the
