>> joe: lance is 37 years old now, as moreland takes a strike. this is siegrist. and he hides the ball extremely well. guys just don't pick him up. >> tim: and that's very unusual for a tall pitcher that throws well because most tall pitchers that throw well have leverage pitching downhill and they don't need to hide the ball. but he does. he has a combination of power and deception. >> joe: former starter, so he is still learning to work out of the bullpen with the cardinals. as mike matheny said, he was right under our nose in spring training. we've needed a left-handed presence in the bullpen to go with randy choate, their other left-handed. choate's more of a specialist. siegrist is more of a doesn't matter who is at the plate, he'll pitch.

wigginton announced as the hitter. jon jay will come off the bench. just by sending his left-hander, martin perez back out there. ron washington made mike matheny use a player that doesn't get to bat. >> tim: that was a very shrewd move. i think ron outfoxed mike matheny there. that's something you don't see that often, have the pitcher go out there, the one hitter announced and then they have to change hitters. >> joe: only 82 pitches on the night for perez. jay's trying to say that pitch hit him. he does not win that argument with the crew chief gary darling. tan a tanner scheppers has great stuff. you saw that first pitch was 97, as jay now is in the hole 1-2.

scheppers is going to have to pitch well to match what martin perez did. perez was supposed to be the number five starter. as you said a couple times, broke his forearm during spring training. jay fouls it off his front leg. he was good enough tonight, forget about the number five stuff, he's got that kind of stuff, triple a they sent him back down. >> tim: he retired the last ten guys that faced him tonight. very impressive. >> joe: the 1-2. jay pops it up into left. murphy is there. one out. take a look at the fox sports 1 game summary presented by fox sports 1, america's new sports network, coming august 17th. pierzynski and cruz with two-run home runs each. that's all the scoring for texas. it's been great pitching on the rangers side.
