recession caused property tax revenue to go down on top of that a special tax with measure q failed. fire district officials said they did all they could to avoid cuts but were left with no other options. even after we have taken several steps, reduce programs, reduce support services the only thing left for us to cut is several stations. >> reporter: seven fire companies were cut and five stations closed in east contra costa county. walnut creek, 2011, 2012 concord and so far this year, clayton, lafayette, martinez, another in walnut creek and now pittsburgh. i think they should keep the station open, we have a lot of industry in this city, fires, in east county, about to get hot, it is summer. >> reporter: the fire district has already been spread thin and relies on mutual aid.

fire station 87 will close july 8th firefighters will be transferred to other stations more than likely another station will close january, but it is not clear which community will take that hit live in pittsburgh, paul chambers ktvu channel 2 news. a man is recovering after fire crews rescued him from a burning house in walnut creek. a passer by called 911 after seeing black smoke coming from the home. firefighters searched the house and found a man unconscious he later regained consciousness and was take on the hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation. concerns over potentially deadly air bourn virus prompted a federal judge, to move several thousands inmates they want them moved out of the state prisons both located in the san joaquin valley where the soil can contain fungus that leads to valley fever.
