tonight. 9-5 saturday and sunday. we've learned a number of volunteers have showed up at city hall offering to marry couples here. there is have been at least one other wedding since sandy stier and kris perry got married. varying numbers. city hall is open for a couple more hours. we expect to see more weddings through the evening. reporting live, david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. we were there when the first same-sex couple tied the knot today in alameda county just a few hours ago. >> i give you this ring. >> i give you this ring. >> julie and lulu cook exchanged vows. the couple says they've been together for a little over two years. >> it just feels really comfortable and really right to me. i don't think it should have been such a big deal for a

really long time. i mean, god just put us here to love each other. >> the couple said they were shocked to learn they were the first same-sex couple to be wed in alameda county since the stay was lifted. the wedding bells will keep ringing. the clerk's office will stay open until 8:00 tonight. they'll be open on saturday and sunday. the clerk closed at 5:30 tonight. the santa clara county clerk will be open on monday. now to our other big story. the heat is on and it's about to get even hotter. here's a live look downtown san jose where it's 92 degrees. >> starting at 11:00 tomorrow morning, the santa clara valley will be under an excessive heat warning while san jose will probably only see 90-degree heat. other. >> the heat wave is expected to last for several days. bill martin joins us with what

areas reached 100 degrees today. >> it was hot out there. this was taken at 5:00. 64 at ocean beach. 103 degrees in concord. there's your almost 40-degree spread. temperatures looked like this. 104 was the high in antioch. 102 in morgan hill. story of the weekend is going to be the excessive heat warning that goes into sect saturday, sunday, monday and tuesday. it's for the inland bay valleys. numbers in the low 100s with temperatures as high as 105, 106. a gauge heat wave headed your way. i'll break down how high the temperatures going to be. when things will cool down. the fog is hanging at the coast. ahead, a look at the dangers the bay area heat wave poses for young children.

now to the looming bart strike. here is the latest. workers have given their 72 hour notice saying if a contract is not reached before sunday night they will walk off the job monday morning. they have tried to avoid the strike. both sides are on a break right now. nay will resume talks in just about a half hour. we begin with christien kafton on the efforts being done on both sides to avoid that monday morning strike. >> reporter: yeah, i just spoke with a representative from bart management. bart managers have agreed to a lot of the provisions put forth. as you said, both sides on a break, set to meet at 6:30. this after a day of trading accusations that the other side was stalling. closer than ever to a strike. >> it's extremely likely there will be a strike because the other side has not

significantly changed its offer in the last month. >> reporter: this afternoon bart union workers called a breeze news conference saying bart managers failed to show up this morning. >> we're here ready to go. we want to know district, where are you? >> reporter: minutes later bart spokesman rick rice said management's negotiation team was on scene and waiting for union members to respond. >> from what i'm told from our management team, they are waiting for the response from the union. so the delay from our point of view is coming from the unions. >> reporter: bart riders might be scrambling to find a way around the bay come monday. courtney donovan says she doesn't own a car and needs to get from oakland to san francisco international airport on monday. >> probably going to have to get a cab. cost probably about $100. so just a lot more expensive than i'd like to pay for. >> reporter: both sides set to go back behind close doors and negotiate late into the evening and over the weekend until they

hammer out a contract. one more note, if they do go on strike, they say they'll bring all the bart trains safely into the station before a strike begins. we're live in oakland, christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. businesses all over the bay area are brace being for the economic impact of a possible bart strike. a strike could mean a huge disruption in wages and services for businesses big and small. >> we're a 24 hour house so we have to be there for our guests. there might be employees that car pool that normally don't drive trying to find ways to actually have employees if they stay in the city, maybe stay in a hotel. >> reporter: finding a hotel room in san francisco might be difficult over the next few days with pride weekend, giants games and the america's cup kickoff. oakland city workers are planning a one-day strike on monday. >> the working class and middle class is shrinking and

disappearing. on july 1st we're going to send a message in the corporate power structure. >> workers say they're upset over furloughs that have resulted in a 25% pay cut over the past five years. jean quan says negotiations are on going and the city is trying to come to an agreement. the last time oakland city workers walked off the job was 1946. there is the possibility of an ac transit bus strike on monday. about 200,000 people use ac transit every day. union members say they want safety upgrades. more than 97% of workers have voted to authorize a strike. but the union hasn't officially called one. their contract expires sunday night. we have continuing coverage on the possibility of all these strikes. coming up in 7 minutes, if you can't ride bart on monday, how can you get around? we'll break down the commute options and talk about the other transit agencies stepping in to offer extra service.

developing news affecting public parks in the east bay. union workers of the parks district announced late today they plan to strike on july 4th and 5th. a major sticking point seems to be pay raises. the union says management's offer doesn't keep up with the cost of living. the union says there's one more chance to settle matters. talks are set for monday. new developments tonight. a jury found a taxi driver guilty of felony hit and run. san chin was at the wheel of his taxi when prosecutors say he hit alberto rodriguez as he walked across the street. chin faces up to four years in prison. sentencing is set for august 5th. returning now to our coverage of the bay area heat wave. spare the air alert has been issued because smog levels are

expected to rise to unhealthy levels. the heat wave is raising more than just air quality concerns. noelle walker is live now with the health dangers that come with rising temperatures. >> reporter: how does a triathlon sound in this heat? probably not so much. these bike racks will be full. you can see they're setting up a tent city for shade and for shelter and for drinks, trying to beat the heat. >> we've been here since 9:00. >> wow. >> reporter: it's the heat of the day and workers are setting up for what promises to be a grueling triathlon this weekend. >> i think the only concern is people that are not aware of what to do in heat. >> reporter: athletes will start off with a swim in a lake with 75-degree bath water. followed by a bike and run. a tough feat on a cool day. let alone in the middle of a

heat wave. race organizers are stocking up on sunscreen and water. >> you request see that's a small portion it have there. lots more water and ice. i hope will suffice. >> reporter: when the thermometer threatens 100 and the cement feels like walking on hot coals. >> pretty bad. they hurt. >> reporter: there's nothing more inviting than a cool pool. >> i usually never take my hands off this one. >> reporter: drowning is the fifth leading cause of accidental death among kids under 14. many whom feel invincible. >> drowning can happen in an instant. >> reporter: life guards caution a swimmer in trouble doesn't look like it does in the movies or on tv. >> a person who is truly in trouble in the water who is an active drowning victim cannot cry out for help. >> reporter: the hot weather dangers are more extreme with kids and seniors. the freemont senior center doubles as a city cooling center on hot days.

a police shootout and an accident has shut down part of interstate 80 tonight. it happened about 3:30 this afternoon when vacaville police chased two robbery suspects on to the freeway. the suspects crashed into a mini van. two women in the van were hurt and one suspect suffered gunshot wounds. all of the injured were taken

to an area hospital. eastbound i-80 was closed for a few hours. one lane has reopened. returning to the possibility of a bart strike. this is video of traffic the last time bart went on strike back in 1997. remember this? the six-day strike created bumper to bumper traffic as typically swift commutes came to a crawl. the fear of a strike has bart riders looking for other options. mike mibach joins us with what the options are. >> reporter: some folks may not like all of them. the first one which is driving. let's take you outside and show you a live look at the san mateo bridge. east bay residents, you can cross this. you have to go up 101 and 280 to get you into san francisco. swinging the camera north to the bay bridge. another live look for you. the workhorse of all the bay area bridges will most likely be jammed in both directions. leave early. or you can leave early and head

to marin county. looking live at the east shore. got to take 80 over to # 580. if you do drive mtc is encouraging you to car pool. out promoting casual car pooling. if that doesn't work for you, ac transit will add lines from the east bay to san francisco. a spokesman is hopeful the agencies own drivers will not go on describe. bart will add limited charter bus service. how limited? 2 to 4000 passengers each day, each day. san francisco bay ferry will add additional vessels, but not nearly enough. >> there's no way that ferries can absorb the capacity. >> reporter: golden gate ferry says don't think about it. it is already at 100% capacity

and will not be adding ferries. >> that was a nightmare. >> reporter: sam is talking about the six-day bart strike in 1997. >> we car pooled in early in the morning. so probably do the same thick this time. >> reporter: if you do car pool, bart parking lots will be free and available to use to coordinate rides. >> it's not going to be good. concern some other options for you. ask your boss if you can adjust your work hours. maybe you can telecommute. or just avoid traveling all together. that is if you can. mike mibach, ktvu channel 2 news. with the bart strike looming, the bay area council, a business policy group has strong words for union members. the bay area council's ceo said quote, bart unions are using their power to hold the bay area hostage, disrupting the economy, harming the environment and wreaking havoc on residents.

go to ktvu.com and click on the bart strike tab on our front page. you can be the first to know whether the strike will happen or if a deal is reached by signing up for bart strike alerts. and you can always get continuous updates by following ktvu on twitter and liking the facebook page. a man is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot at an east bay bart station. it happened about 11:20 this morning. investigators say the victim and a friend were at the station to meet someone when a man they didn't recognize opened fire. bart stopped service to the station for about 90 minutes and some passengers were left stranded. >> wouldn't let us come up because of a shooting. we walked up and they not letting us on bart. >> reporter: >> the victim is a 19-year-old homeless man who was wounded in the chest. he was air lifted. he is expected to survive.

san francisco pride is underway tonight. paul chambers is live in san francisco with how the city is preparing for an historic weekend. paul. >> reporter: we're out here live. the official kickoff is about to begin. people are lining up right now for the traditional trans march. the transformation at san francisco civic center plaza is underway. rainbow flags, building stages all for one cause. the annual pride. >> we've been working on all levels with the city and various agencies, police to ensure we have a safe, secure and sell celebratory mood. >> reporter: police officers will be in uniform and undercover. they're asking people if they see something, say something this weekend. officers recommend going in a group and watching out for pickpocketters. >> we're also going to add cameras to the parade route on

sunday for the gay pride parade in san francisco. so much of what we did for bay to breakers. >> reporter: pride organizers expect a crowd over 1 million people. with the increase in temperatures they're bringing in extra staff. >> our safety and medical team is the highest and most robust it's been in the history of pride. we have water stations throughout pride celebration. >> serving fresh fruit, drinks. >> reporter: this food cart at corner of castro and market streets. she's ordered extra drinks and ice for the weekend. warmer weather means more money. >> heat days we serve more drinks. normally we don't sell a lot of drinks. >> reporter: now the warmer weather means there will be a lot of thirsty people, which is a good thing. a portion of all the beverage steals go back to the community. coming back out here live, they're getting ready to take off here, headed down the street and taking it to market street. live in san francisco, paul

chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. the heat is the story around here. it's hot outside. we've been pointing that out. it's going to stay hot. not just the next couple days. for the next four or five days it'll be hot. there's fog. it's been cooler. that's a place to go. it'll stay on the mild side compared to everybody else as we go into the weekend. may want to just drive on up to paint rays. extended forecast keeps the heat in the inland bay valleys. big numbers. purple is 100. we're seeing 102, 103 today. we'll see 104, 105 next couple of days. there's your relative cooler temperatures. about 30 miles away at the coast. in antioch tomorrow, the timeline for how the day goes. easily 103. but what i notice is at noontime you're already at 95

degrees. tomorrow, by lunchtime the inland bay valleys are kissing the middle 90s. high pressure builds this way. as it does it sends the heat our way. balances us out between the cool coast and very high temperatures. it's like the high keeps pushing on this fog. that's why the fog along the coast has been dense. going away at times. the fog will push back in. the cooling is along the coast. get inside the bay, get over towards santa rosa, san jose, you're noticing high temperatures. you will tomorrow. 103 in fairfield. 102 in clear lake. 102 in walnut creek. you can roll these bad boys into sunday, monday and tuesday as well. i think monday will be the warmest day of the week. fog along the coast. excessive heat warning stays in effect. goes into effect this weekend. stays in effect through tuesday. inland bay valleys. high temperature thing that
