one person who was there told me she counted more than 500 union workers at this meeting that happened back here in this hall. they say they don't want a strike but seemed more than ready to do that e exactly that when they packed in today. the union local 192 represents more than 1700 bus drivers, mechanics dispatchers and others who work for ac transit. their contract expires at midnight. the union has said worker's safety is a key issue. we also talk to bus drivers who say pay is a big deal. they make about $25, $25.68 an hour to be exact. the elephant in the room, everybody knows if both ac transit and bart workers strike tomorrow that could cripple the system. in talking to the union president, she realized that could be a factor in negotiations. in the last few minutes i was told

leadership from this union went back downtown. somewhere in downtown oakland to resume meeting with a mediator. between ac transit officials and union officials representing these drivers and mechanics. for its part ac transit says there was slight progress made today. officials there are still hopeful a deal can be worked out before midnight so bus drivers and the like will not be on strike tomorrow especially if things go south with bart and there is a strike on that end. you're monitoring the situation and staying in touch with both sides. if there is any break, we'll bring it to you online on ktvu.com and tonight at 10:00. live in oakland, ktvu channel 2 news. >> and thank you, erik. thousands of city workers preparing for a one day strike in front of city hall tomorrow. we caught up with gathering and union workers were making signs this afternoon. it's a union that represents some of the bart workers set to strike if a deal

isn't reached. and one of six city unions that represent a total of almost 2500 workers. the union says it's fighting for a cost of living increase and make up for pay cuts in recent years. but also says the city has been dishonest in representing financial situations. >> we think that the city is hiding money in the budget, there's been great revenue improvement with the housing boom in oakland. and we think there's enough money to pay for all of it. the city is not coming clean with the information. >> may or says the city is doing everything it can to avert a strike. police, fire and emergency workers would not be participating but most city offices would be shut down. east bay park workers are threatening to walk off the job this thursday and friday. administrators for the east bay regional system says parks will be open but swimming facilities, visitor centers and other

facilities may be closed. the negotiations fly to 600 park rangers, life guards, naturalists and other workers, talks resume with the state mediator tomorrow. the two sides are hoping to hammer out an agreement before thursday. >> it was a huge day in san francisco as people celebrated gay pride. want to show you a live picture of twin peeks where the pink triangle is displayed every year. it is starting to be dismantled. it was a symbol used by the nazis. the symbol has been adopted by the gay rights movement and that huge pink triangle has been a fixture for many years. we saw it go up piece by piece. sections of pink tarp put together for gay pride weekend. and slowly fading away as they take pieces of it down. more than a million people flowed into san francisco during

today's parade. news chopper 2 was over the parade. 1.5 million people attended the event. typically the pride parade attracts a little fewer than a million people. organizers braced for bigger crowds. one of the attorneys who represented the plaintiff's in the prop 8 case says the ruling could be applied on a national scale. >> the 14th amendment was passed for the specific reason of saying states have rights. but one of those rights is not to discriminate against citizens. >> same-sex marriage supporters are confident they will achieve marriage equality in all 50 states within the next five year as. >> now more on our hot weather. people trying to beat the heat in san francisco. they headed to the embarcadero. laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement for their sunday run. i was there yesterday.

others were quite content strolling by the water front. the coolest way to spend this sunday was in a boat sailing the bay. >> now live to a picture of mount diablo. it's the east bay getting hit with these high temperatures, triple digit temperatures. let's check in with mark tamayo who is monitoring the situation. it's dangerously hot out there right mark? >> that's right. excessive heat out there. a string of days. started friday, saturday, today . monday, tuesday and wednesday. be extra careful out there. believe it or not, temperatures cooled off a bit. in some ways a little bit of a break. here are highs from this afternoon. triple digit heat. morgan hill in the upper 90s. but that fog making a come back troping san francisco down to 70 degrees. and right around the bay, oakland out of the 80s back down to 79. most areas up a few degrees for tomorrow.

more triple digits for tomorrow. bigger picture here. a few high clouds approaching southern california. may feel a bit muggy out there. watching out for that as we head into your monday. current temperatures are still hot out there. still showing you 100 in fairfield. livermore in the upper 90s. san jose 84. and downtown san francisco 87. around 100 right now. currently in the lower 90s at 91. first thing tomorrow morning, patchy dense fog could make a come back coast side and right around the bay. watch out for drop off visibility monday morning. temperatures will be in the 50s to the mid 60s. once again off to a mild start especially as you work your way inland. today an on-shore breeze and cooled off a bit courtesy of the west wind and fog nearby. that is one good part of our forecast moderating temperatures coast side and around the bay.

dangerous part is this. this area of high pressure continues to heat things up across the west coast. las vegas today tied the all time record of 117 degrees. very hot there as you would expect. but really hot for today. and for monday, tuesday and wednesday and possibly into thursday, we're going to hold on to this warm to hot pattern. temperatures inland, 100 to 108 degrees. begin to warm things up for tomorrow. and real heat expected tuesday, wednesday and possibly into thursday. we are still going to hold on to that breeze coast side and as a result the temperatures cap at the immediate shore line and around the immediate bay. here's a look at that excessive heat warning through tuesday. this will be extended through wednesday as we showed you that temperature range. keep yourself warm -- i should say cool. because of the temperatures. risk of heat exhaustion. definitely want to

stay cool with temperatures topping 100 degrees. for tomorrow morning, a few high clouds approaching the region and patchy dense fog. here we go with the triple digits out toward santa rosa. san jose in the mid 90s and right near the immediate coastline. upper 60s to around 70 degrees. look at those numbers for tomorrow. these are dangerous conditions out towards santa rosa, vacaville and fairfield. 100 it 106 degrees. these numbers up a good 2 to 5 degrees from today's highs. 86 degrees. san jose in the mid 90s. sunnyvale 92. and here's the cooler part of the forecast, san francisco in the 70s. and pacifica 69. patchy fog could be a factor for tomorrow morning. these are the numbers concerned with for monday, tuesday and wednesday boosting up the numbers up to 108 degrees. we begin to cool things off for the 4th of july on thursday. still triple digits and finally relief from

friday into the weekend. keep everybody cool if you can and drink lots of water and seek the shade. no heavy workouts during the afternoon. >> two or three day heat wave is not unusual but this is different. >> yeah, we're trying to find an end in the forecast models and hinting at a certain day. but each update, extending it longer. that's when we get concerned. >> thanks, mark. speaking of this heat -- actually, we're going to breaking news we continue to follow for you in san jose where a fire continues to burn. you are looking now at live pictures. this is southbound 87 at 280 and fire was reported at about 4:50. and we know that an sig alert was issued for this area as fire officials arrived there on the scene. had to close at least one lane to try to tackle this fire. this is pretty much right downtown san jose. and in the past, this has been an area that has seen a few

homeless camps. not sure how this fire started. but that is something fire investigators are going to look at. it wasn't too long ago that cal trans came in and cleared out the homeless camp there because of the fact they were starting fires and because of the fears of possible fires in this area. again, we are continuing to speak with fire officials in san jose to find out more details about this. does look like they are getting a better handle on it and we'll be following this for you and bring more details as they become available. the heat wave across the west has prompted amtrak to enforce speed restrictions on its trains. extreme heat with cause warping on the tracks. caused delays from the central valley into oakland yesterday afternoon and trains were running as much as 50 minutes late. amtrak is encouraging passengers to check ahead for more possible delays. >> passengers using oakland airports tonight could face delays.

one run in 7 innings and picked up his 8th win of the year. buster posey got the giants on the board with 12th home run of the year. three runs in the 5th. the big hit was a two run homer. his 13th. the giants win it 5-2. end losing streak 6 games. despite all the recent problems. the giants are still only 3 games out of first place in the national league west. the dodgers have been the hottest team in the west. with an rbi single off kyle kendrick. part of a three run inning. and still in the 4th, jerry singles to right to score matt kamp. stay within a game of the giants. all five teams are within four games of first place. the as have made a nice statement in home stand against two of the teams. first they took two from the red and this weekend made it two out of three

for the first time in the three years they've been running a nascar race in kentucky. they did so in the sunshine. the race postponed last night by rain will run today. get into the back of brad. ends up sliding down low. not so bad until he goes back up. the race had to be stopped for 18 minutes while the 6 cars most damaged were taken to the pit. it's been a bad year for jimmy johnson and restarts. johnson gets tangled up. ended up 4th. johnson back in 9th. the winner was matt who becomes the first driver to win four times this season. moves up to 5th place in the points. the leader is still johnson despite 9th place finish today. stage 2 of the tour de france was 97 mile mountain stage won by jan. edged out peter by 1 second. finishing second despite being
