good morning. the breaking news update. bart workers are on strike today and no talks are skeg yuled so far. -- scheduled so far. some 400,000 commuters had to other ways to get to work by ferry, car, bus. it may take extra time to get where you need to go today but all things considered the morning commute was smooth for many. but that's likely because it is a holiday week. let's look. you can see the line of cars is stacked up, and that's the case in the immediate approach to the bay bridge though. we've had aa lot of people say
11:01 am
i got right up until this point with no problem. keep in mind because of the bart strike those hov lanes are enforced all day today from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. let's go to the ferry terminal in al me for a live report. >> reporter: almeda for a live report. >> we are live in almeda where you can see there's a small line of people waiting here to get on to the next ferry that takes off in the next 15 minutes. we are told this is normal traffic, it is nothing compared to what we saw earlier today when there was hundreds of people in line. now, i do want to mention the parking situation out here at the main terminal. the parking lot is completely full. and so are surrounding streets. we talked to one person who said that she parked so far a way it took her ten minutes to walk here. so they're encouraging people to get dropped off or to ride bikes if you can.
11:02 am
the ferry service will resume the special schedule. they're going to start that ferry service starts at 3:45 in the afternoon. it goes on until 8:15 p.m. we will have much more on that coming up on our later newscasts. reporting live from almeda, ktvu channel 2 news. thank you. be sure to stay with ktvu for latest. find us on ktvu.com. we have a special section dedicated to the bart strike. we will also have updates every hour right here on ktvu and full coverage on the regular newscast starting in just an hour here at noon. this has been a breaking news update on the bart strike. really give it humanity. because a lot of times when people think of drug addiction and that whole thing they don't you had the human being and what they go through. >> anderson: you saw people suffering and saw them as people. >> exactly. and it was great. >> anderson: it was like a forerunner to the wire. but, the other thing that

[applause] i only went it was a friend from college bachelor party and i was like can we leave now? but -- >> that is how i would be, too. >> anderson: the guys that go there they don't want to be giggling. maybe they want to giggle but not laughing. >> they come because they want to see what big ang got, you

i do not get is i am not a drinker, i don't like drinking. i will have wine now and then. but there is this other story i saw in the news that is causing outrage and it's inappropriate. urban outfitters a store that i like to shop at. plain t-shirts i buy there. they are selling this line of t-shirts and their target market is young people 18-25. and they are selling all the pro drinking shirts. like i drink you're cute. >> and i vote for vodka. >> anderson: p this other shirt misery loves alcohol? >> now, that is crazy. >> anderson: i don't think -- it doesn't seem appropriate to me if you are selling to kids or teenagers or people below the drinking age it seems like it's sending the wrong message. >> i do not agree with the t-shirts at all. i have stepchildren my younger is 15 years old and i do not

wear these things, they are much more likely then to drink. >> absolutely. >> anderson: and major retailer this is not a mom and pop shop. they are selling across the country. i know young people may disagree. >> tray? i am a student in washington d.c. >> what do you think of the shirts? >> a lot of kids on campus have one. tons of them. i have one with me today. it says political party and now this one does not come out and say anything about drinking. >> anderson: political party but all drinking. >> do you drink, tray? >> no, i do not. >> anderson: really? when i was in italy i had wine i was legal to drink there. >> anderson: but you don't think it sends a bad message? >> i think kids have decisions to make. i think as an 18-year-old which i'm 18, i can go to war, i can vote in a presidential election and i can vote whether to drink
11:11 am
vodka or not. >> i hear you on that. but i also feel that young kids like when you are dealing with 15 and 16-year-olds buying the t-shirts they do not have a meterment as an adult one glass of wine and call it quits and do not drink and drive but sometimes kids may not have that meter even at 18. i feel like you are still a baby. you might be able to vote but you cannot drink vodka and have enough sense to know not to drive. >> anderson: i grew up in new york city where we were not driving around but people everybody was drinking when i was 15 years old. jan -- >> i am from colorado and 18 was the drinking age. >> anderson: and your daughter died? >> my daughter died when she was 15 and it was an underaged drinker he was 17 that killed her. and so his life is ruined, too. but the point is is all the dangers. and research shows that kids who
11:12 am
have these t-shirts actually drink more. it's more frequent for them to drink than kids who don't have them. >> anderson: we reached out to urban outfitters and they did not respond. i think this is something that enough people kind of express concern to them they will take them off the shelves. >> we would like to have that conversation. >> anderson: at the least they should be able to meet with you. let's see if we can make that happen. the sharks from "shark tank" are here. we will be right back.
