at the coliseum people will be driving to the game. we will have another update in a few moments but now back to you in the studio. we do finally have hopeful news about the bart strike. contract talks will resume in less than an hour from now. ken is in oakland tonight with what they are saying and the surprise guest who showed up this afternoon. >> let me first set the stage. we are at the caltrans building here -- in oakland -- it is a state building. in less than an hour bart will be here at the table to talk for the first time since this strike began. for the unions they said they will be returning to the table and they have a surprise guest on the picket line. >> joining the mix of union

workers was bart board director james. >> management has to show respect for the things labor has done and they do need to get a working fair wage. >> he is an elected official who doesn't negotiate for bart but his appearance was a coup for the union -- he came just after the union said they will return to the bargaining table. >> we are relieved that we get to go back and bargaining -- we hope we will see a substantial higher offer than the last offer we seen. >> she says the previous offer didn't satisfy their pay or safety concerns. this may foretell a difficult night at the bargaining table. >> we will discuss the proposals on the table.

wrong, dozens and dozens of people are waiting in line for the ferry. how soon will they get to where they are going? they are departing every 45 minutes. the last ferry departs san francisco at about 8:15 tonight. see this line loud and clear on your screen, hundreds of people lined up to catch a ride into the city. they have an expanded schedule beginning at 6:00. bart says if the strike continues tomorrow it may have to increase the number of charter buss it is using to give free rides into theciy. more buss were added today, but the ones leaving from walnut creek, and fremont stations have been filling up fast. free bus rides reach full capacity by 7:00 in the morning and can't take more riders into the hub and eventually into san

francisco. >> we have too many buss in west oakland, tomorrow we will push the buss out into walnut creek to serve more people there. >> so far bart has hired 86 shuttle buss. happening now bart has heavy traffic heading to tonight's game at the coliseum. this is a live look at 880 north and southbound lanes. it is not that creeping transferric that -- traffic that we see in other parts of the bay. we are live near the coliseum to -- eric. >> tuesday night is usually the promotion for free parking at the coliseum but the match up tonight is considered a premium game so they are going for $17

will close a popular park tomorrow -- the park has been closed since sunday -- the emergency closure was triggered by temperatures near 100 degrees. more than 8,000 customers are without customers pg&e says because so many people are cranking up air conditioners power is at a premium and they hope to restore service as soon as possible. tonight we know the names of two victims shot and killed -- in oakland this evening. do police think these two workers were targeted. >> that's the question we asked the police chief, he says it is an open and active investigation so he wouldn't say -- but he did say this was

not a robbery. he says crime scene surveillance video and customers inside have prove that statement. the store behind me is still closed at this hour and there is a crime scene unit there for at least the last three hour. >> flowers and crime scene tape still around the wing stop -- last night around 11:45 two gunman fired several shots killing two employee. >> it was very upsetting for me to see that people that i work near by were murdered in cold blood when business was open. >> there were original workers and customers. the victims were 26 jose' maria and 22 ye old bradley both from richmond. >> we need these criminals off the street and foremost we need the guns off the streets of

traffic happening around the bay area, there's a good look at 101 through san francisco, they are coming toward us on the left-hand side of the screen. that is the get away from the city tonight. this is one of the major crunch spots. this is just one of the many ways people are trying to get home. it is taking extra time tonight. it is situations such as these that keep people up at night wondering how they will get around during the bart strike. now the psychological effect the strike is having on people. >> these are the lines for the ferries to the east bay. people told me today that they have been standing in these lines achingly long or in their cars for hours, making some commutes 3 hours longer. all that time basically wasted

mechanics continue to work as talks go on but today -- positive statements by the ac transit board were not reflected in negotiations today. the union plans to give a 24 hour notice if a strike is called. new developments out of the east bay, parks will stay open through the 4th of july holiday. union workers had planned to walk off the job over the busy 4th of july holiday thursday and friday if an agreement is not reached -- regarding pay increases, retirement and health care contributions. thousands of inmates set to be transferred after an air born fungus triggers a widespread illness. they are moving 2600 lynn mates

>> hayward police are looking for a driver involved in a case of car road at 10:30 this morning on whitman avenue, the victim says the other driver followed him and pulled him out of his car injuring his arm then the man jumped on the hood of the car and smashed the

windshield and smashed the victims tablet and drove off. a big rig driver found out his truck was too big for the toll booth on the bridge. the side of the big rig hit the concrete curb that broke the front ample, three lanes were blocked. this kind of accident is happening more often now that all tolls are paid electroniccally meaning driver's no longer have to stop. >> we have had car mirrors coming off. almost every day we have crews that have to go out and do what they have been doing, clean up the toll lanes from the damage. >> this case the driver may have been unfamiliar with the lane configuration. it caused minor back ups until

about 11:30. this 4th of july, some bay area police department are trying to use a high tech tool to crack down on gunfire. that was the sound of a gunfire -- it sends an alert to police and officers can be deployed to the scene. it should help them track down people who are firing weapons in the air to celebrate. >> individuals don't think about it -- it is dangerous going up as well as down. >> police in oakland and other cities will have extra officers on duty. police say the system will help them track down every site where a gun is fired even if it takes days to catch up with the
