about an hour. fans might wait longer to get to the ball park. traffic has been slow going through that corridor since this afternoon. we have team coverage tonight. we start with ken who has late developments on those contract talks, ken. >> well, frank, i think it is safe to say these contract talks will begin shortly, but they have not yet begun because we are still seeing the negotiators walk in to this state building that is used as a neutral ground. we saw some bart people walk in. we have video of some of the union workers walking in. one of them expressed some optimism. >> we are hopeful. we hope we go back to work. >> both sides say they were asked backed to the bargaining table by a state mediators.

they are expecting an offer from bart that is significantly improved. bart is finishing to negotiate with the union. now of course we are two days into the strike and this is the first meeting between bart management and its union. at face value it seems like a good sign that these are entering these talks with different expectations of what will be discussed. i will say one of the union negotiators say they were coming back to the talks because in part the higher level mediators say there will be a better environmental -e environment for -- environment for those talks. those talks are set to begin right now. we will bring you the latest

when it becomes available. today's commute appears to be rougher than yesterday. we have been watching the traffic all day. how are things looking now sal. >> it is a little bit better but not much. we have some clearing on east bound interstate 880. you can see traffic is still moving and is backed up on to 101 and there is some improvement. but the city streets like first street and harrison, are all just as slow as yesterday. remember it was pretty slow. this is a look at interstate 880, it is not too bad driving past the coliseum. the a's and cubs play tonight. of course there is no bart service there. we haven't seen a big crowd just yet at the coliseum.

methods of transportation. for looking for a ride out of san francisco, the place to be is the transbay terminal. we are there tonight. david what is the situation like right now. >> take a look behind me -- the scene where the line stretches to go into the terminal catch ac trapsity bunch -- buss. at this hour it should take about 50 minutes for someone at the back of the long line to board an ac transit bus bound for the east bay. evan says the wait appears to be worse on day two. ac transit alone says it is carrying up to 23,000 riders, twice the usual daily figure, making the rides a standing room only situation. other buss carrying as many as 70,000 additional riders. they have cancelled scheduled construction work to provide

more service. more people are cueing up for a free ride across the bay bridge. >> it was pretty packed yesterday too. i don't know if it is any better. >> it is taking up it makes it tough. >> police come -- please come back, please negotiate and make our life easier. >> there is a 40% jump in calls for service from side car -- one woman gets a request every 5 minutes instead of every 15 minutes. those relying on public transit tell us they are hoping the negotiations provide quick relief and a return to service. reporting live channel 2 news.

more details now on ac transit and just how packed its buss are. on a normal day they carry 10 to 12,000 people across the bay, but the last two days they have been averaging 22 to 23,000 riders, they are still at the bargaining table with the union telling us today has not been a productive one. some people headed to the water to take the ferry across the bay. all of those people are trying to head back home. these pictures were taken a short time ago. long lines stretched around the pier as scores of people try to find a way back home. tomorrow is the day before the 4th of july holiday so fewer people might struggle to get to work. but we will be here early

starting at 4:30 a.m. this has forced the closure of san jose's park -- it will be closed once again tomorrow. some people say they are glad because people smoke in the park and here is a live look from the roof cam. it is pretty hazy this evening. we caught a little break along the coast and bay. several cities inland topped 100 degrees. this is the kind of weather that can be dangerous if you are not careful. more with what we can expect tonight coming up. a shooting left two restaurant workers at wing stop dead. in oakland. >> i can tell you right now police are still looking for a suspect in this case. the wing stop is still closed behind me and there is an

officer stations outside. a crime scene unit left the area a few moments ago. an employee talked to us and said they didn't know what was going on. she said a cook was shot and a manager. >> some people consider lake side park area, near oakland a great place to live. >> it is a really safe neighborhood and family oriented. >> we live in a pretty safe area but two kids were just gunned down and it is shocking. >> she is referring to the shooting at this wing stop last night at 11:45 two men killed two men from richmond -- this morning police were able to make an arrest. >> i'm grateful for the police for capturing one of the guys. i hope they get the second one.

we need these criminal off the street. >> part of our success was two things, one the community was involved and provided information, and also this business had good video surveillance. >> just three hours before that shooting the police increased patrols in the area because this time last year there were more robbie -- robbery. >> the surveillance video proved it wasn't a robbery. they will have two community meetings tomorrow one at 30 with merchants and another one at 7:00 with the residents.

a big rig driver got stuck on the golden gate bridge at 8:45 this morning. theen from the ample snapped and left his truck stuck in one lane. it took two hours to remove the rig and he is liable for the damage. new at 6:00 a popular new roller coaster is stopped in its track -- it has nothing to do with the ride's safety or maintenance. now, why some people are complaining about it. >> well we are standing underneath the park's newest and most popular attractions, look at the size of this roller coaster but it is quiet right now because it is too noisy for some neighbors. >> people lined up only to be turned away today -- at the 108-

foot high roller coaster opened to rave reviews but has been shut down due to an ongoing company over the noise. >> we are all excited and it is really a killer to not be able to ride it. >> when safety officials measured the noise level without riders it was within acceptable standards but they didn't account for the additional noise that comes when riders start screaming. we couldn't reach a representative but great america is making adjustments to bring down the mechanical noise. >> we are now slightly above the levels and we are working with all parties to make sure we reach those levels and accommodate everyone. >> riders were mad a ride could be shut down for being noisy. >> the park was here before the aboutizes were around it. we are only here for today. we can't come back. >> they shouldn't close one

-- living cuts for social security recipients and cuts to medicare and medicare providers. union leaders at the park reached a tenative agreement to avoid a two day strike that was set for july 4th and 5th. the agreement addresses the issues of pay increases and retirement. specific details have not been released. rank and file still need to ratify and no word when that vote might take place. new viewer video just into the news room of a major mud slide shut down interstate 80 at the nevada state line. it happened at 4:30 this afternoon. there are reports of several inches of mud and rocks in the road. people are trying to clear the

road by hand. it is currently closed and could be another hour or two before the interstate is fully cleared. and heat remains the headline for our inland communities. getting into tomorrow only subtle changes in the forecast as the ridge of high pressure remains over the west and continues it bring hot weather. the heat warning is extended through thursday. it doesn't expire until 7:00 thursday evening so just something to be aware of. if you do work outdoors in the afternoon, avoid rough activity and be wear of heat stroke. very hot for some of our inland communities. it is the gradient between the coast and inland communities that really ramps up the sea breeze at times. that is what we saw this afternoon. look at fairfield still blowing

at 25-miles an hour. napa at 15-miles an hour. it is enough in the north bay to drive the temperatures down. in napa the readings are 10 to 15 degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. we are seeing the difference that onshow breeze has made. a lot of these inland readings are a degree or two cooler than yesterday. concord 86 -- took until 8:00 to reach 86 yesterday. so a little more rapid cool down into the evening hours. also thunderstorms are firing off over areas of tahoe -- look at this -- indicating hail falling but really lighting up the sierra ú; this will be the case for the next couple days. i want to mention it for folk

who's might be heading to the sierra for the 4th of july, keep an eye on the forecast. 54 in san francisco. mid 60s in fairfield and 70 in antioch. for the afternoon tomorrow 92 santa rosa. nice to warm in many locations in our inland communities, temperatures are beginning to pull back. 104 for antioch tomorrow so still a hot one today you were at 105. 90 degrees for san jose. along the coast it has been cool to mild for the last several days and we will see that again tomorrow. the noteable cool down will come friday and the weekend looking good at upper 80s for the inland and 70s around the bay. >> what i would give to be in santa cruz right now.
