>> that little one over there is kind of the runt. >> a holiday heart warmer as an orphan deer wanders around the woods. >> kind of following that doe. >> the heartbreaking rejection and the heroes who saved a scared fawn. plus, a cool fruit and a cool cake. see something new to do at your picnic. and fresh from the usa gal -- >> the president's song. >> it's a new party anthem on one fired up fourth of july. now this is a crazy celebrati celebration. while americans like to light their fireworks, this is how they do it in a village in mexico. did you see that? >> they are smashing stuff with sledgehammers. >> all these people have these hammers but at the end, there are explosives taped on to them. they are doing this to celebrate the patron saint of this town and they do this every february

to celebrate during the festival. in this video you see them putting these explosives on the end of this pole which eventually will turn into an explosive hammer. these explosives are also home made. and apparently they spend weeks putting these little cartridges together. >> it's fun. i want to do it. >> every year there are injuries. most of them superficial -- >> his head almost got blown off. >> wait until you see this next one. >> oh! my gosh. >> yeah, that sent his hammer flying in the air and it totally through him back. >> seems like only dudes doing this. any women doing this? >> no, they're smart. they're at home. we right this minute hope everyone has an awesome time out on the water for this holiday weekend.

[ bleep ]. >> it seems as though someone had lost control here. >> the good thing is after they run into each other, you can hear them. >> you all right? >> yeah. >> oh, no it hurts. >> the one guy might have banged up his knee but all in all, sounds like they're okay after this. that was like a jet ski folly. this has some jet ski super skills. this dude is out there jumping over the wake behind this boat. that's pretty cool. but it's really exciting for this particular dude here.

so -- he falls right in. >> as if there was something he was drinking that made it that way. >> he loved it so much he lost a little control. they circled around and got him. the guy is probably all right. you are looking at some of the aftermath from the black forest fire in colorado. 500 structures were destroyed. thousands of people had to be evacuated while they were fighting this. but some animals were also victims of this. you can see this doe with her two little fawns in an area destroyed. but there's another fawn, a little older than those other two kind of following that doe. the people observed the fawn interacting with the others and started taking the video. they believe that fawn had been

orphaned. >> the fawn down there lost his mama probably in the fire. >> now they notice the doe was chasing away the fawn and kicking it whenever it tried to get milk. this fawn they believe was pretty much dehydrated. >> so we called the division of wildlife and they are going to come and get her and rescue this fawn. >> the sheriff's deputy from the el paso sheriff's office came out to help rescue the fawn. and look how patient they are just kind of creeping around because it's skittish. and it took off when they got close. so you can see these two deputies are creeping up on this fawn so they can eventually scoop it up. look at that one deputy holding that fawn in his arms. how beautiful is that? i can't believe how docile it got once they picked it up. >> it's just a little tiny one. >> the fawn was taken to a rehab facility because they want to make sure it's okay and it will later be released back into the

wild. >> apparently she is. of course she was. >> what a great act of kindness. we know this. fireworks can be incredibly dangerous. in this particular video, the poster says that they bought one of those 200 grand firework cakes. a group of fireworks in one little package. >> a bunch of missile things, aren't they? >> yeah, this guy is placing the firework cake next to the body of water before he lights it, take something safety precautions. he gets away in a perfect amount of time and the fireworks start going off. but keep watching. whoa! whoa! >> oh, no. >> the poster of the video said he didn't secure the firework cake effectively so they started shooting out at the guy behind

the camera. >> you know if you watch the very first firework, the cake thing kind of like wobbles. you can tell it's not super secure. >> luckily, no one injured. you can hear the guy behind the camera laughing. they call this a near death experience. be careful when you are lighting fireworks. looking for something new to drill up this holiday? >> did he precook them at all or are they completely raw? >> they are raw. ready to be eaten. >> i imagine crunchy, too. like popcorn. >> see the tasty twist to this backyard barbecue. and the mighty chipmunks who ain't afraid of nothing.

dogs, burgers, cicadas. >> cicadas? >> yes. that's what chef david maskowitz decided to grill up caribbean style. >> this time of year, a lot of places, especially on the east coast, they are being bombarded by cicadas. >> he put them on a secure with a nice pineapple, kosher salt glaze. his son is shooting this video. you can see him dewinging them and preparing them for grilling. >> did he precook them all here or are they completely raw bugs? >> he has not precooked them. he's eaten them before and gives us an idea of what they taste like when you eat them unprepared. >> the ones i ate raw tasted like walnuts and had the consistency of not. >> he said he's preparing them. taste better than the time he had them raw. >> that is really beautiful. look how gorgeous that is. >> i imagine crunchy, too.

crunchy like popcorn. >> i'll show you the other side. oh, yeah, these are almost ready. >> do we see them actually eat them? >> he does actually eat them. actually, pretty good. >> i would imagine all that pineapple and olive oil would mask a lot of the flavor of anything, right? if you can get past the look of the bug, it's probably not bad. >> i don't think with bugs it's ever the flavor. it's the texture and the legs that get caught in your teeth. >> so on this fourth of july, somebody burnt the hot dogs and burgers, go out and fetch some cicadas and cook them up. >> mm. >> fireworks are fun to watch. they can be more fun to play with, especially if you are being safe about it. jeremiah warren has figured out how to play with fireworks and view them in a very unique way. this has that matrix bullet time effect. >> that 360 thing. >> a couple different things.

he's shooting little rockets. shooting those pack of missile-type things. bolt rocket. each of these are in slow motion and it kind of wraps around him in a 360 degree motion. you see the smoke. it's really fun to watch. >> how can he do this without damaging cameras? >> it looks like the fireworks are being shot right at the camera. >> he put together a how-to video and shows you how to do it yourself. >> it was pretty simple in that it was just a simple ceiling fan. the fan was hooked up to a speed control box which is attached to this power source. and then the go-pro was attached to this stick here. and that was attached to the fan blade. >> the matrix doesn't look so cool anymore. >> the matrix thing was ground-breaking, revolutionary stuff that cost millions to make those effects. jeremiah did it like this. >> so that is how i built the rig. >> jeremiah's rig is pretty simple. if you want to learn how to make one for yourself go to

>> you take the milk, the half and half, put some sugar in it, mix it up and put it in a baggy. you try to squeeze as much of the air out as you can. and then the cool part -- >> then the other ziploc bag, put ice in there and then a bunch of salt in there. make ice and we're going to put this mixture. >> that's when you need those dirty gloves because the cise going to get particularly cold. >> you leave it in the bag in the other bag. >> and then he does what next? >> shake it for 5 to 10 minutes and you take it out and it's already frozen. ready for you to eat. >> you know exactly what's going into your ice cream. >> very important. >> and, of course, wouldn't be "right this minute" if we didn't try making our own ice cream. >> one cup of milk. one cup of half and half. i'm adding more sugar. and do not forget to add the vanilla extract. more. more. shake this up a little bit. oh, you can feel it getting much colder. who is going to be shaking?

yeah. that's pretty good. i think we're good. nice job. >> that looks fantastic. >> some chocolate. >> all right. >> it's great. >> it's delicious. the cameraman from wmds in myrtle beach, south carolina, showed up at a myrtle beach pelicans game. >> what's happening? >> and on this particular night a high school cheerleading team was invited. and they had a little contest to see who could throw in the first pitch. the myrtle beach pelicans had rigged that contest so one specific girl could throw in that first pitch. in the catcher's uniform is staff sergeant richard palmer who is also -- >> hey, what's up, baby? >> dad! >> oh. he's a civilian and also a firefighter.

he teamed up with the fire department and the myrtle beach pelicans to pull off this very special welcome home surprise. and the folks at wmvs talked to the father and daughter. >> we got on the bus last night at 7:30, 14-hour drive to get here. >> she thought he was still in afghanistan. >> kept calling my number. i couldn't answer because i was in the states so we pulled it off. i didn't think we would. >> a lot of moving parts there. a lot of people had to coordinate to make this all come together. >> it's beautiful. >> so proud of my dad. every single day he's away from his family. i know that's hard for him and it's hard for us. >> i am just happy my daddy is home. >> i'm happy to be home. thank you. >> it's time to celebrate the fourth of july. so usa gal is going to sing about it. ♪ celebrate celebrate fireworks ♪ >> we're celebrating fourth of july with some presidents. on the beach.

>> yes. >> it does look fun. >> these guys definitely have some skills. they aren't your everyday average joes. they are pull something crazy stunts here. at one point they ditch the tramp leans and go straight cliff diving. really great shots from across the way. see how high up they are. that looks to be 50 feet. that's pretty, pretty high. definitely not the safest thing, although it looks like super fun. it doesn't look that dangerous. they aren't that high u with the n especially in arizona where you don't find water like that everywhere. there is nothing more delicious during a hot summer day than a delicious, sweet watermelon. >> yes. >> and i have a couple of videos. the first one i'm going to show you how to bust into your watermelon. i'm not using a knife or cutting board. these guys are using rubber band
