continues. ktvu channel 2 morning news starts right now, this is ktvu channel 2 morning news. good morning, thank you for joining us, july 10th, i am pam cook. dave clark, let's get a look at weather and traffic, steve paulson is here with a cool down, brian and pam, temperatures warmed up considerably and 60s and 70s, not much change by the coast. we are looking at highway 4 between walnut creek and oakland, a little bit of fog as steve has been mentioning and so far it is not impacting drivers all the lanes on eastbound 808 are open -- 880 are open and it appears a big- rig rear-ended that van east palo street at 1:00 a.m. and a van burst into flames and they blocked all lanes of

traffic and crews had to clean a mess off the roadway. >> there is a light film, oily film mixed with fluids and not to mention the fire when they were on the scene, we just want to make sure it is not slick. >> the drivers of both the van walked away and they just reopened about 45 minutes ago. let's go back to the desk. now to the investigation of flight 214. ntsb has learned valuable information about the crash from interviewing the black box and pilots. they say the landing speed was too slow and 36 miles per hour less than the target speed. also the pilot knew something was wrong and tried to aboard the landing and they -- abort the landing and they clipped the sea wall to fso. less than 20 minutes ago we

listened to the chairwoman as they spoke about the scope in length about the investigation. live with a wrap up of the interview and claudine, what did she tell you. >> it will take awhile to get wrapped up and it will take anywhere from a week to two weeks and it looks closer to two weeks, we have a huge debris field and there are more that need to be conducted and vex is are -- investigators are getting ready and at this point, sleep, this is not what they are getting enough of and let's talk about what they know so far. all three pilots were in the cockpit and we talked about the instructor pilot and the number of hours they had. the instructor said they had

been very cooperative and they have to put it all together and they have to match it up with all the information they are getting from the black boxes and with that information from the ntsb and they knew they were going to low and they knew they were going to slow and there is at this point a lot of the focus on those pilots. >> at the end of the day our goal it to learn from this and to make sure no other crew will find themselves in a situation like this crew. >> reporter: isn't part of the lesson that you have to listen but that you can't rely on auto missing a regardless. >> the approach and landing are in the critical phase of flight and more toring -- monitoring skills are very important and we will have to see what the facts tell us... >> reporter: and at this point

right now they are still in the process of collecting facts. keep in mind, there is one important thing to note when you talk about an investigation like this, ntsb likes to classify this as safety of investigations. they make that distinction because we want everybody to be forthcoming. they say look, knowing wanted this accident to happen and the key is to figure out what went wrong and how the entire aviation community can learn from it and make sure it does not happen again. they will be going on about another week and a half on scene and they have to clear the debris field move the airplane and they are not giving hard timeframes when all of that will happen and then they are looking at another 12 to 18 months purchase they put all of the information together and figure out exactly what went wrong on flight 214.

the parents of the chinese girls killed in the crash are still in the bay area. the coroner met with the family yet at the crown plaza in burlingame. he said one girl may have been hit by a fire truck while responding to the crash. he may have her exact cause of death in about a week. in the meantime they are offering help, donations and support. >> maybe we can hold a candle and hold a prayer so everybody can have help for the families. >> they were just 16 years old headed to summer camp and they are trying to release their bodies to a funeral home. some passengers would not be alive if it was not for the quick response of some flight

attendants. coming up their primary controls in that response. flights to fso around 11:00 last night, a duty manager tells us a small utility vehicle bumped into the plane before takeoff. it is technically located in northern kentucky and it is scheduled to land in the next half hour and the next plane is still at the gate. happening today a special

meeting on the eastern span of the bay bridge and its delayed opening. live on the embarcadero, katie, here is more on what he expect to learn, katie? >> reporter: they have been talking about opening the bay bridge and some are eager to see it open and some are doing so without a celebration and some want to see the pageantry and they say it will not open on labor day weekend like it was supposed to and it may not open with all the pomp and circumstances like crews had hoped. the project is already $5 billion over budget and 10 years late. this continued delay is casting a cloud over them and some want to see a celebration when it

which closed the road and you can see traffic is moving well and they did not affect the morning commute and at the bay bridge toll plaza you will find a slow down. there are no problems at the toll plaza except for this delay which is 25 minutes. it looks good all the way to palo alto and if you are driving to dumbarton, that is also a nice drive. let's go to steve. we have a little more in the way of clouds, we had very thick fog, reduced visibility and also tropical clouds we will keep an eye on. we are producing some rain in south beach and it is not reaching the ground but it is there, it should start to beal off more towards central california but it begins to

move into santa clara and i clouds. i am seeing higher a lot of these will drift in and move off because of an area of low pressure is moving in and that will open the door of a westerly breeze for us. cooler after yesterday's warm up and those high clouds will stay in california along with the rain. 54 in san francisco and some mid-60s and i have seen gusts at 27 in port chicago. the wind just collapsed and cloud cover is keeping it relatively cool, a little stronger delta breeze at this time tomorrow, we have seen the bands of rain in southern california and we are considering it down there and that's going to give us a cooler pattern.

higher fog bank, a little misty with drizzle up there. 60s to 90s and temperatures coming down 9 or 10 degrees, cooler to thursday and friday, and slightly warmer inland temperatures over the weekend. >> time now 611 coming up, gay marriage supporters expand same sex marriage. a big wildfire is forcing people out of their homes and the reason some of the victims are headed to the casino. this morning they are looking into how authorities responded to the boston marathon bombing and in just hours from now the suspect will be appearing in court, i will break it all down in a few minutes.

minutes and congress wants to know how well they are preparing for the attack and if they could have responded better. dzhokhar tsarnaev is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction at the boston marathon killing three people and wounding more than 360 others. he is also accused of killing three others. and his older brother tamerlan tsarnaev died in a shootout just days after the shooting. it is up to eric holder whether or not to seek the death penalty. we will watch on capitol hill and i will have an update coming up next time i see you. they would return rates on stafford student loans for 3.1% and when lawmakers failed to

reach a deal, the goal is to reach a deal before students return for summer break. they are considering the freezing and the money was promised but never came through. a shift in wind is helping fire crews gain action on the fire. the sierra club is also logged and inspection teams will go through the areas today to assess the damage. and las vegas casinos are opening their doors to help many who are forced out. they are offering rates as low as $25 a night and others are allowing them to stay for free

going on? >> southbound interstate 880 at 1st street near the airport, it seems a pickup truck went too fast and didn't make that big wide turn and ended up at the bottom of the embankment and now we'll see what kind of a traffic jam it causes. i want to show you the traffic is backed up after a 30 minute delay and if you are driving on the golden gate bridge here, southbound 101 traffic looks good and if you are driving from marin county, it also looks good between novato and central san rafael. >> more cloud deck and high pressure squashed it and shot way up. today they will come back down and there is a little system that will lift that fog bank and give us a stronger west

wind and i have seen 20 or 27 out towards chicago and gusts at fairfield. that was not the case and it is going up. a lot of tropical clouds and even a little bit of rain in long beach and l.a. some of the higher clouds will peel off as the system begins to move west of us. antioch and brentwood, a little 50s in santa rosa and 60s in mountain view and there is our system combining with this system and you can see how it is moving along towards us and giving us more of a westerly breeze compared to inland. that's okay, temperatures went

. welcome back time now 6:23 another suspension for bart toll low coliseum -- bartolo colone and they could suspend him over the performance enhancing drugs investigation. the commission they are is considering -- commissioner is considering 100 game banning. the suspensions could come after the all-star break. the ntsb reports that the crash of 214 ejected two flight attendants from the rear of the plane. as they recover from their injuries, passengers are praising the cab -- praising the cabin crew for their heroism. they are showing the length they took carrying some people

is the latest for a busy year for homicide police. >> it definitely has, we are at number 26 for the year and i just checked and they tell me no arrests have been made and they have detained somebody they found here at the julian street inn for this homicide and it is still an active scene and there are numerous police cars here. this all happened right behind the shark tank. police tell me just after midnight, they were called to a stabbing and it was run by envision. it appears such as a confrontation between two mail residence. he was a white male and he died at the scene. there were numerous witnesses and they are still being interviewed by detectives. they are helping to piece together what happened and the

shelter is the only one in the county that serves mentally ill clients. people who live there are getting treatment and council willing and so far -- council willing and -- councilling -- councilling and they are roping this off for their investigation and they are looking to see if this possible suspect and the victim knew each other and what led up to this and what sort of policy does the shelter have on weapons. what was the weapon -- what weapon was used and coming up live, janine janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 morning news. the crash into 214 is now centered on the pilots and the last few seconds before impact. now they have finished interviewing all four pilots and three were in the connect pick at the time of the landing

while the relief pilot was sitting in the cabin and they all assumed the automatic throttle was controlling the air speed. they are looking into whether a lack of flying the boeing 777 also played a role. it could be next year before we receive a definitive answer on what happened. here is more on what is next in this investigation, claudine? i spoke to the chairwoman just in the last hour and talked about what is next. because when you talk about this investigation, you get a sense of where they are headed and right now they are in the fact gathering and very early on, they do not want to make any conclusions because they want to be transparent and they are not assigning blame, they are just trying to figure out exactly what happened and

investigators will be out today at the runway once again taking a look at the debris field, taking a look at the plane. they want to document everything before they remove everything from the runway and until they are done that runway would not open. it looks like it will take into next week before they will wrap things up and move the investigation and put all the different pieces of this investigation together. as you said, they are focused a lot on the pilots in the cockpit and any mistake which may or may not have been made, there is still a lot of work ahead. >> many are working on the surface of the airport to the airplane. we've a lot of people working inside the airplanes documenting seat conditions and also looking inside the cockpit to see what we can see from

switch positions. we have learned the flight crew, we are working on the cabin crew as well as emergency sponsors. the ntsb again says the pilot's interviews, those are four of them and those are done, but the cabin crew, everybody else they still want to talk to and that includes passengers. they are asking them please let us know what you felt, saw and herd so this can have it making sure they paint a picture of exact limb what happened and they want this to be a learning exercise for everybody in the aviation community. they say nobody meant to do it and they want to make sure it doesn't happen again.

claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> all right, claudine, and one of the questions is how do they avoid a similar crash and the push for avoiding warning systems dates back to the debates of the u.s. senator. and the closed runway is already causing a two and a half hour delay. the runway will stay closed to accommodate the federal investigation into the crash. cancellations are also expected today and at least 138 flights were canceled yesterday and most are now back home and some are in the hospital this morning. 12 people at san francisco general 5 are in critical condition including a child. stamford hospital has four crash victims, one is listed in critical condition.

the remaining patients are recovering at san francisco hospital with less serious injuries. we are following news in napa counties where lanes are shut down due to an early morning brush fire. this is happening near the lake dam and controlled traffic is getting through in the westbound lanes. the fire broke out this morning and was knocked down just a couple of hours ago. cal fire is trying to remove equipment from the area and so far equipment has been removed from the burn. they are setting a trail on the park and contra costa fire tweeted them to tee i don't -- detain a person of interest but police have not confirmed that. there are more warnings after more pounds house in meatballs were found. a dog ate one of the meatballs and got very sick. the latest discovery was made over the weekend. police are reminding pet owners

to be careful when walking your dog. if you see anything suspicious call police. this was around the time where traffic picks up. >> it is the case, this is about the heart of the commute as brian mentioned. let's go out and look at interstate 880 and right now it looks good. it is looking peculiar because it does not get head have i -- heavy for a while and if you are driving into san francisco it is a 25 minute delay. no problems on the bay bridge and we have not had any major incidents and hopefully it will stay that way. southbound 880 at first, a pickup truck went down after failing to make that turn. northbound 880 at 101 on the shoulder and there is a crash that is on the shoulder not causing a major delay but it is

there. slow from 280 getting to sunnyvale. let's go to steve. thank you sir, a very big fog bank, it was really held in check, high pressure squashed it and that's not the case and there are plenty of clouds around. north bay foggy, a few clouds have drifted in towards the monterey peninsular. the heavier cloud deck, some light rain as well. you have business down there or any kind of travel plans, it is muggy and we have some rain cooler inland today, not the 99s and 101s we had yesterday. some of these could drift into santa clara valley, they are coming from southern california and stronger west wind has higher elevations and this system is here and that little low comes in and should take most of this and wills already

showing dark and it is already showing signs. southern nevada, 50s and 60s on the lows. 52 in santa rosa, napa at 53 degrees, a stronger delta breeze, today it is increasing and we'll see if it continues with generally more of a westerly breeze, and in tahoe, a not bad 84 and for us we see a cooler pattern and higher fog bank, a little cooler, not as hot, still some #0s -- 90s and the trend will bring inland temperatures down. cooler weather continues thursday into the middle of the week and i think that is it as we go into the weekend. this is the time two big course decisions. coming up, the new developments between apple and amazon and

trying to figure out which driver was at fault. they are looking into the opening of the new bay bridge. live on the embarcadero, telling us about the special meetings now. >> reporter: they want some accountability for those broken bolts that are delaying the opening. >> to me, it is basically on the company. >> reporter: on monday, the bridge oversight committee said they will not open as scheduled and now the target opening is mid-december and at that point it may not open with all the pomp and circumstance organizers had hoped. right now the celebration is up in the air at this point. >> i think they should reschedule, the party was a really nice idea and i think if it is possible, i think they should. >> there is a meeting aten and

we may learn about a reskids on the -- rescheduling on the celebration and we will bring you the latest on twitter and later on our newscast, ktvu channel 2 morning news. they have found evidence that a criminal act may have caused that deadly train crash that killed at least 15 people. a parked train carrying oil began rolling downhill and crashed at 63 miles per hour, and at least 40 buildings were leveled in the explosions and nearly 2000 people had to be evacuated. 35 people are still missing. they are scheduled to hold a final vote on a controversial vote on abortion from women's rights' groups. >> i know you don't want to put

think we will keep it there but it does look warmer away from the coast sunday. jp morgan sued thousands of credit card customers, according to a wall street journal and they are looking into the row bow signing scandal and jc morgan found errors in 9% of the cases it checked. the bank says the errorswere small. an airline trade group wants them to compare ticket prices and fees on a single website. they plan to have a new comparison system in place by the end of the year. it will give customers an option on finding all individual websites but consumer groups say it could lead to discriminatory pricing. coming from yes empties --

. dow jones industrial average up a little nasdaq and s&p 500 up slightly and we have a lot of earnings reports, right now low expectations and we have a bunch coming in after the closing bell today. also two big court decisions and a new new york judge has ruled against apple. she concluded apple had conspired to raise the price on amazon.com and that judge will now set a trial to rule on damages. amazon and apple has settled over who has the right to use the term app store. it has a big step and amazon said they abandoned the case and it claimed it had become generic. with more than 50 billion downloads, they know where they can buy their apps.

some are getting upset over the treatment of a wounded marine and this is nathan corporal kept. he said they hassled him at the screening because he could not lift his arms. >> the security technicians were not aware who this marine was why he was here and for that he had suffered injuries from his military service. >> the tsa said they can use the wounded warrior screening program and they can be catered to men and women in uniform. everybody wants questions answered on what can be done to avoid this accident happening

again. they favor a system that audibly and visually alerts them to air speed and they have resisted the idea over concerns in part that the alert may be more of a distraction. this relates back to a charter plane which crashed killing eight people in 2002. they could change the airline's expansion planes and they were on tract to increase service to the u.s. now it keeps it and expert the say they should stop the plan as it becomes available to customers. we will be fogging for mosquitoes to help get rid of the west nile virus.

it will be on snell avenue in san jose and it's scheduled to last several hours. fogging comes after several mosquitoes tested positive for the west nile virus. under this new rule visitors will no longer be able to ride bikes or other activities and they are now looking at other alternatives to allow them to continue those activities. the final decision will not be out until december. northbound 101 and 280 still looking good into the city and it is a little bit slow, as you can see it is backed up 30 plus and on the
