tv   Right This Minute  FOX  July 13, 2013 10:30am-11:01am PDT

10:30 am
hello, everybody. i'm beth troutman. it's time for great videos and the stories behind them "right this minute." dash cam video shows a suspect being pulled by his hair. >> in the back of the squad car. >> what happened as he pleaded for relief from the pepper spray. >> can you please wipe my face? >> get in the car! >> a driver has no idea what's about to come out from -- >> between the parked cars. >> the scary scene that could have been so much worse. an equestrian misses a jump but still gives a good show. the story behind the viral hit and the horse who got a good
10:31 am
talking to. >> we need to think about this next time. >> and one dude's play-by-play when a rude pit bull won't get off his porch. >> you got to go, man. the police coming. >> it's like a comedy routine. nk it's funny. the st. paul police released new video from an incident back on august of 2012. the first video i'm going to show you has been around for a while. it was released during the same time. in it shows 31-year-old eric hightower being arrested by st. paul polictedecause apparently the night before he made some pretty serious threats to his ex-girlfriend. >> you see that? you see that? did you see that? >> you see officer jesse vilge kick hightower before making the arrest. now, of course, when this came out, a lot of people upset about this video. but now what's new is the video from when they get him in the back of the squad car.
10:32 am
he is resisting. >> get in there. >> can you please wipe my face? >> get in the car! >> what am i being arrested for. i ain't did nothing wrong. >> entering the back seat is officer matthew gorens. he's trying to drag him by the shirt and eventually drags him by the hair. >> get in the car. >> watch what he does with pepper spray. right there. watch his right hand has pepper spry going right in his ear. >> aaaah! >> the officer then drives hightower to the police station. the entire time hightower in some serious pain asking for water. >> please, can you throw some water back here. >> after all this went down, prosecutors determined no charges should be filed against either officer. now the update is, according to the st. paul pioneer press, the police department did conduct an internal affairs investigation. the chief has decided to fire
10:33 am
officer gorens and suspend officer zilge for 30 days. also according to the "pioneer press" those decisions are not final because the officers are going through a union grievances process. 31-year-old eric hightower has plead guilty to all the charges stemming from the threats to his girlfriend. we've reached out to the st. paul police. right now they have no comment. we have dash cam footage. as you can tell from the stamp in the left-hand corner, this car is not going quickly. we see the car pull out of a parking space, safely. >> looks like a one-way street. >> it's going the wrong way. >> oh! there were two kids? >> you saw the little girl bounce off the windshield. >> a mother comes walking through the parked cars with her two small children and doesn't look to see this car coming because it may have been a one-way street and she wasn't expecting a car coming from this
10:34 am
direction. and watch. both of the children get back up. obviously, terrified. the mother quickly picks the little boy up into her arms. the little girl breaks into tears. we think the man in the pink shirt was the man behind the wheel of this car. he quickly gets out to help this family and gets his phone out to call for aid. >> you got to look both ways but you also shouldn't drive down a one-way street. >> it just goes to show you even going slow you can toss some kids in the air like this guy did. the pumping hard is a boat out in ocean city, maryland, when it caught this video. >> it looks like a spider. you use it to capture your fish. >> it has a go-pro attached and look what came to life on the fish they caught? >> that would be a maco shark. it's going after some fish. he's like, oh, a buffet attached
10:35 am
to a boat. let me start feasting. >> dave and mike burke captured this video. >> this is like a video version of "the old man and the sea." >> except not an old man and it's a go-pro camera on a dredge. quite a few fish when this video started. he's just made his way through the buffet. >> this is awesome. he's like, man, this is pretty easy. not only does he come for the fish. he's also like there's something else attached. i think i want a bite of that go-pro. you can see inside his mouth. look at his teeth. >> that's what it looks like to get eaten by a shark. now we've seen it. >> and this isn't the only footage they've been able to catch. if you are the fisherman, you didn't catch the fish but i think you are even happier you got such great footage. so you are chilling outside the drive-in window to dunkin donuts waiting for your order at 1:00 in the morning.
10:36 am
you want a little treat before going to bed. you definitely don't expect this, though. >> what happened? >> the man standing outside the car is having a bit of an argument with his friend that's inside the car. and while that's happening, someone else comes up behind him and uses a bat to smack him behind the head. the guy falls over and stays there, obviously, unconscious. there's another man in that car that gets out and tries to chase after the guy with the bat, but as you can see in this other angle, the guy with the bat jumps into his car and takes off while the other man is chasing. now according to philadelphia police, there was an altercation between those two men. >> i'm confused about why the guy is standing outside of the car at the drive-through. >> did he come out of this silver bmw? was he a passenger in that silver bmw? >> it appears that is the case. >> either way you look at it a cowardly move. comes up from behind and hits this guy with a really dangerous weapon. obviously we don't know what happened before this.
10:37 am
maybe this guy did something just as cowardly. but judging just from this video, man, that's terrible. a teenager hangs on for dear life as some brave dudes try to figure out -- >> how do we get out there and get him. >> see the heartstopping moments leading to one dicey rescue. and this guy is pulling a prank and it's all political. >> these women are signing a petition to end women's suffrage. >> why are we suffering? >> see how many ladies get schooled.
10:38 am
10:39 am
fountain hit the water in the summertime, but you have to be careful because stuff like this can happen. this is the piney river, ray county, tennessee. look out there, clinging to some trees in the water. that's a boy out there. he was out there with his friend. they were doing some tubing. their tubes got caught up on
10:40 am
some branches and deflated. so if they were stuck out there, his buddy was able to make it to shore and flag down a vehicle to call in help. to the rescue come the ray county rescue squad trying to figure out, how do we get out there and get him. you can see how rushing these waters are. and their method is interesting. there was one stable unit walking step by step using a paddle as almost like a stabilizer. and it even looks like the waters are getting more and more dangerous the closer they get to this guy. >> and deeper, too. now they are waist deep. >> right around here, they are getting tripped up. >> ooh. >> they even have a rope to the shoreline? >> no, they are out there untethered, you could say. >> one of them has a life jacket here for the boy. and they are able to hand that over to him. >> now that they got him they have to go back where they came from. they get the life jacket on him. they start their trek back where they came from and right here -- the guy with the paddle slips
10:41 am
and the water starts taking them down. but it looks like once they get to about here, it gets shallower. there are some trees to grab on to. the waters aren't as dangerous a few feet down the river here where they are able to just walk over. boy taken to shore by a few rescuers. you see him walking on his own by the end. this boy and the other boy uninjured in this rescue. the fact that this prank i'm about to show you works makes me so depressed. >> i'm outside the study of feminist studies and i'm trying to get people to sign a petition to end women's suffrage. >> meaning the right for women to vote in a political election. this is from the "whatever" youtube channel. these women are signing a petition to end women's suffrage. let's watch. let's see how many, shall we? >> what are we -- like why are we suffering? >> no, suffrage. >> oh.
10:42 am
okay. >> even when he says, no, suffrage, suffrage. well, why are we. no, suffrage. they're like, oh, okay. >> we're trying to end the suffraging. >> do you want to sign it? >> sure. >> it's like a terrible thing what's going on. and do you know what suffraging is, or suffrage? >> yeah. like rights and stuff. >> suffrage is the right to vote. so we're trying to end the women's right to vote. >> what? >> he does get quite a few signatures on his petitions but toward the end of the video, there are some women who get it. >> suffrage is like the right to vote and you want to stop that? >> yeah. >> sorry, no. >> to end our right to vote? >> yeah. >> thank you. all i have to say is they are rolling over in their graves over this. i couldn't breathe. i had a panic attack. >> there are about 15, 18 women in this video that now definitely know the definition of suffrage.
10:43 am
>> that's hope. >> what? wait. i want to take it back. dash cam video. and the crazy stuff doesn't always come from russia. i know that's what you are thinking. this came from one of our loyal viewers out of british columbia, canada. it comes from kylie joe. her sister brittany was driving this vehicle that we're riding in, this mercedes. it's a two-lane road and there's some traffic, but it's moving. brittany never likes when cars pass on the right because things like this can happen. >> oh, my god! >> oh, no. >> the vehicle tried to pass on the right. gets out of control when the truck tries to get into that lane as well. you see the car slams into the embankment on the side of the road. brittany and her passenger andy pull off to the side of the road. she says even though that car crash pretty serious, everyone walked out of the car.
10:44 am
one woman and two kids in the back seat. the woman had a broken wrist but the kids were uninjured. >> the truck obviously wasn't checking its blind spots very well. double check and check again. you can't look out your rear-view mirror. >> the driver of the truck was issued a citation for unsafe lane change. >> oh, my god! >> now let's go on over to russia. >> oh, no! >> right? >> are you kidding? he's so calm. he looked at the car like, idiot and then goes and picks it up like it didn't even happen. >> in true russian style. that's what they do. >> nobody got hurt. everything seems to be okay. can't help. let's keep going about our day. some thrill-seekers head out for a base jump, but -- >> are looking for ways to make this more crazy. >> how that led their speeding van to a four-story bridge. >> and it may look like a typical day on the green, but -- >> this guy on the tee box
10:45 am
doesn't particularly like his drive. >> [ bleep ]. >> see who takes the fall for this dude's bad day of golf.h, ! ñáçwçñ
10:46 am
10:47 am
if i freeze this video right about here, you might be wondering, why are there footprints on thoichs vehicle. they are kind of guide marks. you'll see why.
10:48 am
this is adrenaline junky sam hardy in from the epic tv adventure channel. and inside the van here getting himself geared up to go on that roof. climbs up there. you see we've got go-pro connected to the roof. sam's got a go-pro on his helmet. and the van starts moving. watch this. yeah, that's a b.a.s.e. jump from a 460-foot high bridge. off the moving vehicle. the vehicle itself is going 25 miles per hour. i got to imagine it's pretty hard to like surf on top of a vehicle in itself. he had to get out over that rail pretty far. he didn't just jump. he had to leap. >> that is what the footprints were to tell him how to run? >> he did have to leap quite a bit because that's a seven-foot gap. awesome stuff. successful b.a.s.e. jump. things are getting more extreme when people who b.a.s.e. jump are looking for ways to make this more crazy. in his description he said it was harder than i thought standing on top of a moving van
10:49 am
at 25-mile-an-hour and having to get over a 7-foot gap before pulling my parachute. >> that's how you do it. i have been giggling about this one all morning. it's just one of those internet gems. >> this is a crazy art type craft. this dog just walked in our house. after throwing up on the floor. you know what i'm saying? andre had to push him out with a pillow. it snatched the pillow from andre and it just -- now it's humping it. we trapped it in he house. >> there's a whole lot going on in the first 20 seconds. >> why don't you go home, dog. go home. the dog police coming up in here. look at him looking at me all crazy. the dog police. you must think you are right because a black dog would have ran off this porch when i said police. >> he said i want this guy to
10:50 am
narrate my life. it's funny. >> my poor pillow has been dragged and mistreated. what did i tell you? it's like a dog -- >> this one is funny. some colorful language in it. so be warned if you want to see the whole thing. click on best of rtm. our mobile app as well. that's rick wallace and his horse in a big three-day competition. >> and doing quite well, i must add. >> looking good. getting over everything here. >> watch what happens here. >> oh, no. >> oh! >> does he like get docked points because his feet touch the ground? >> rick, as you can tell, not touching the ground. >> see what happens when the horse says no more jumping.
10:51 am
10:52 am
10:53 am
in life, sometimes you have to put yourself in the place of someone else to really understand their journey. so today i'm going to put you in the place of a bowling pin. so you understand what their life is like. >> it's very important to have empathy. >> so there you go. the camera is on a bowling pin. it sends it down the conveyor belt and it shows us what they have to go through. they go through this machine that aligns them. rounds them up. it aligns them, puts them back on to the platform.
10:54 am
>> i always thought it was a bunch of hamsters gl s back the doing all the work. >> the hamsters are cranking all the different parts. >> pretty cool that someone thought to -- >> you sometimes wonder, how do the bowling pins come back so perfectly and every time. >> here's two things you definitely don't see coming. the first from a boat race in nova soecotia. two boats moving along and one of them wipes out sending both people on board into the water. now look. runaway rogue boat. kind of funny. the announcer can't seem to figure out what's going on. >> something going on down there. >> it's quite obvious. they fell off the boat. >> it's so close to them. >> it's getting close to them and close to all sorts of other things. a rogue boat. what do you do? to the rescue comes the royal canadian mounted police. you see them here in this boat and this is a maneuver right out
10:55 am
of james bond. you see the guy on the edge with his feet dangling over. watch this. you almost can't see what happens. then when the boat comes around the corner you can see he jumped from one boat to the other. what i like, instead of just like killing the motor -- >> good job, guys. >> -- he gets on the thing and like punches it out of there. awesome rescue. very cool. from one sport to another. now to golf which can be frustrating. this guy on the tee box doesn't particularly like his drive. snaps the club and here is the thing you don't see coming. >> oh, no! >> he threw it at his buddy. i think he was trying to chuck it in the woods. but because you have like a snapped golf club you don't really know where it's going to go. and then, i mean, what do you say. >> did i hit you? >> so you are bad at golf and
10:56 am
you can't throw. >> and now you're a bad friend. >> this is the best video example of stick to it-iveness. >> the guy in the saddle is rick wallace. the gorgeous horse is ultimate decision. now rick is a three-day eventer. he's riding in the third day of his competition. and doing quite well, i must add. >> looking good. getting over everything. >> gets a little tripped up here. knocks down the bar. watch what happens here. >> oh, no! >> what the heck? >> does he like get docked points? >> according to olympic rules if the rider touches the ground, the rider will be eliminated. so rick, as you can tell, not touching the ground. i love the horse. the horse is like, okay, man. i'll just stand still. >> oh, gosh.
10:57 am
>> ultimately, he did face elimination because he did touch the ground, but the video has gone viral because people are quite impressed with rick's comedic timing. his riding skills and his determination to get back in the saddle. to tell us more about this ev t event, we have rick wallace via skype. rick, welcome to the show. >> thanks for having me. >> walk us through this moment and what's going through your head. >> when he went to take off, i was going with him and then all of a sudden he put his feet back on the ground and threw me into the air. what was going through my head at the time was, oh, gosh, i'm going to hit the ground. so i wanted to just kind of hold on and get back in the saddle and not really go on. but that didn't happen. >> why not take a bow? >> i was talking to him the whole time that i was hanging upside down and i actually kissed him on the nose. not many horses would just stand there. i heard all the clapping but i was really more concerned about making communication with my horse and making sure he was really okay. and i knew he was. and we knew it together.
10:58 am
that's why we kind of walked off and went on. >> what were you saying to the horse? >> we need to think about this next time. >> this is video gone viral. you've gotten lots of comments, including negative comments about hanging on the horse. what do you have to say about those people. >> it was 19 seconds. obviously, the horse is very strong. if he wanted anything to happen, he would have dropped a pad. i would never do anything to harm my horses. they are part of my family and their welfare is of utmost important to me. that's our show, everybody. thanks for joining uand we'll see you next time. crystal geyser is always
