heading north bound. it banked to the right and within a mile crashed into a wooded area. the plane was bossed here at the airport. a man said he was meticulous about caring for the aircraft and last year painted a red stripe, that was very visible in the wreckage. the plane landed upside down. the pilot's wife was airlifted to the hospital and the plane was found by a nurse who was walking by. >> she has moderate injuries. she will be okay. >> reporter: [ inaudible question ] >> she is very lucky. >> short time after the plane crashed an off duty nurse was walking in the area with her dog. she is married to a deputy and she arrived within minutes and provide aid to the injured woman in the plane. >> reporter: the faa says they

captain led them on a two hour slow speed chase. the coast guard said it started at 4:00 p.m. sunday when investigators responded to nuer of false distress calls. >> it is frustrating because we go out and dispatch and they go to a certain place where the call is happening and no one is there. >> reporter: investigators found the boat and the captain. the boat doesn't have the customary identifying marking. the coast guard request permission to board and he refused and led them on a chase. when they finally boarded boarded the skipper lunged at wan of the officers. >> -- at one of the officers. >> the operator attacked our officer. we had two others come on board and we were able to take him down. >> the coast guard says there was no signs of drugs or

it here. it shows two men walking to the dumpster and setting it on fire. that video has been turned over to police. this happened at 1:30 a.m. saturday morning. it burned through two doors and melted the electric meters that pg&e just replaced this morning. two restaurants all lost power. they had to shut down saturday and sunday. today they brought in big coolers with food but the rest of the food had to be thrown away because they had no power. that is hundreds of pounds of food lost. along with thousands of dollars in lost business. they hope police catch the two and they want to thank the good samaritan who moved the burning dumpster away from the building. >> he tried to put it out. tried to take dirt and put it out. >> it was wonderful. he saved the building.

>> reporter: the restaurants reopened this morning but they still have smoke and water damage inside. they are not sure whether this is connected to any of the vandalism that happened last week during the trayvon martin protest but they say they are tired of local businesses being destroyed downtown. staff are hoping to reopen by thursday or friday. reporting live, jana katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news. dozens of earthquakes shock absorbers are wearing out twice as fast as expected. caltrans is replacing 96 on the western span of the bay bridge. they were installed in 2004 and supposed to last another decade but the rubber seals are wearing out early because of the movement of traffic and the wind. it will cost $13 million to replace the shocks. despite the problems the bridge

is safe. apple is working to get its developers site back up and running. they said an intruder tried to access personal information last week. they have been shut down since then as apple works to rebuild the database. all information was encrypted but it is possible names, addresses and e-mail addresses may have been accessed. it comes as apple prepares to report earnings. net flick stock fell even though they reported 2nd quarter earnings quadrupled. revenue rose 20%. a rise in gold off set disappointing earnings from

companies today. that left the dow up a point. the nasdaq is up 12 at 3,600. the s&p is up 3 to 1,695. outside today muggy, soupy, humid. let's go now to our chief meteorologist bill martin for the official report. >> that is how it felt out there. felt like san diego. not like what we are used to. usually drier but the humidity increased as the clouds moved in. tropical moisture moves in. working its way out here. we are seeing showers developing. i had report of sprinkles showing up in san jose. light drops. just drop, drop, drop. this green representing, well, what could -- what could be showers. none of this, little of it is hitting the ground. showers that dry up. the atmosphere is moist as you can see. we can't rule out the chance of a shower. even a thundershower into the next twenty four hours.

george zimmerman acted as a good samaritan soon after he was acquitted in the shooting death of trayvon martin. he repped rescue -- helped rescue four people from an over turned suv. when sheriff's deputies arrived george zimmerman and another man were helping them out of the wreckage. he has been the focus of angry protests. african american leaders in oakland will not let the george

5:00 p.m. >> school children will have to go to class without computers for a while after thieves broke into their school and made off with thousands of dollars worth of high tech equipment. it has officials wondering what more can they do? the thieves had to go through a number of obstacle before they could get to the computers. ktvu's rob roth is live to show us what happened. >> the victims are the students here. school officials believe that one or more thieves broke in through the window now covered with plywood and made off with 100 computers. >> looks like they spent lot of time here. >> this was pealed back. >> reporter: she showed us one of the school buildings that were broken into. >> they broke this one. had a lock on it. and we had desktops on the two

control the problems with good lighting, security and maintenance. a sign is warning people away from the university over pass in berkeley. it has no sidewalks. a fatal hit and run last monday brought attention to the fact the previous sign was stolen. the victim was a homeless man. a head on crash killed a 55- year-old man who was driving a van pull of boy scouts at the time. it happened yesterday morning around 11:20. all five scouts in the van were hurt. theiriarys range from mage -- their injuries range from major to minor. they were on their way to a camp. the san jose based store chain filed for bankruptcy protection today. ktvu's robert handa is live in san jose with what is next for

a roller coster ride at a park remains shut down as investigators try to figure out what caused the deadly accident. a woman died on friday. today the president of six flags said experts from inside

and outside the company are investigating her death. witnesses said the woman expressed concern about the safety bar on the roller coster. in the wake of the accident, concerns are raised about roller coster safety and who is making sure the rides are safe. ktvu's jacqueline fold says it depends on where you ride. >> reporter: in california, they inspect rides routinely. regulation is up to the industry itself. ride inspector says parks do a great job. >> they do more than the sate inspectors do as far as

performing competent inspections. >> reporter: massachusetts senator said baby strollers are subject to tougher standards than roller coster. he said it is a mistake not to have federal safety over sight. he tried to close a roller coster loophole since 1999. he is looking into had death in texas. creating federal over sight would be a monumental task. >> we need to pass laws that control that whole system. >> reporter: accidents are rare and over sight should remain at the state level. ktvu channel 2 news. prosecutors filed charges today against a registered sex offender in connection with the death of three men. michael madison faces three

county arizona. people in other parts of arizona were wading through high water after a week of heavy rain. over the weekend crews had to rescue 9 people trapped by flash flash floods. some of the moisture from that storm, if i am correct, is work its way up here. >> monsoonal moisture coming from the desert southwest. typical this type of year. the high pressure reitates into our area. -- rotates into our area. they have a lot of thunderstorms. but it made it further north so the showers are falling out. i had reports of sprinkles in sunnyvale, in pacifica area. a lot of this not hitting the ground. looks like it is favoring the coastal section with lift from the hills. you could see light sprinkles out there. making it wet on highway 1.

people evacuated because of a wildfire are being back allowed home today. heavy rain helped yesterday. the fire burned 42 square miles and now 68% contained. 3500 firefighters were fighting the fire. 7 homes and 16 structures were destroyed. the evacuations orders effect 6,000 people. a young man who raced into a burning home on saturday to save a man insists he is not a hero. others disagree. alex savage got his words on why he took action. >> reporter: this photo shows the home exploding in flames after he pulled him outside. he saw the huge fire and knew he had to help.
