neighborhood dogs on wednesday that she was shot and killed a few blocks from her mom. a place recently solomon was working to protect. she and other residents were working to bring private security to the area. yesterday we spoke with one woman who's dog was in the car with her. >> and if lucy could talk, she would tell you what happened yesterday. >> reporter: now today the community will come together once again, but this time with leaders from oakland city council and community activists. that part of the story and what will happen to solomon's chihuahua in our next live report. >> thank you. a man accused of using pepper spray top force his way into a home onofre hospital is on the loose this morning. police say the suspect rang the doorbell at a home yesterday evening. when a woman answered, he allegedly doused her with pepper say. investigators say he got into a fight with a man and shots were

fired. a swat team then responded but he managed to escape. the family at the home were not seriously hurt. the suspect is described as a thin 30-year-old latino man with a long bushy ponytail and goatee and tattoos above both eyebrows. it happened at about 10:40 last night. three people were inside the cab and one person was in the suv. police say they are all expected to survive. and the cause of the crash is still being investigated. the san jose fire department posted four photographs on its twitter page of a car crash late last night. the vehicle slammed into two trees. the driver was trapped inside and firefighters had to use the jaws of life to remove the person from the car. we have not yet received word on the extent of the injuries. an apartment fire has forced a san jose family to seek temporary shelter. the one alarm fire started around 10:30 last night on

north third street. the fire was brought under control. no one was injured and the cause of the fire is also still under investigation. firefighters in contra costa county are making sure a grass fire does not flair up. the fire burned 120 acres of open fields at the former naval weapon's station. the fire broke out around 1:00 yesterday. firefighters say it was pretty difficult to put it out. winds were clocked at 30 miles an hour. firefighters burned foilage as a barrier to make sure flames did not spread further. part of the port chicago highway was shut down briefly as well. >> do we spray down the grass or leave? thankfully it didn't cross over. >> a couple pig rigs parked across the highway got scorched. there are no obvious signs of what sparked the fire but past fires have come from brakes of

trains rolling through the area. construction crews may be moving forward with the quick fix for the new eastern span of the bay bridge. special materials designed to make sure the new bridge will be able to withstand a major earthquake will be ready early next month. however there will be a number of safety reviews in the weeks ahead. >> this idea of using the shims sooner will be vetted. but there have been no decisions made. >> it's still possible the new bridge could open during the labor day weekend as originally planned. negotiations are set to resume at 9:00 this morning. there are growing concerns the two sides won't be able to reach a deal before the august 4th deadline. bay area transit leaders are working to hiring charter buses

for commuters. but it would take 8,000 buss to carry the passengers bart normally carries each day. a hayward woman is under psychiatric care this morning for failing to feed her child for two days. a woman claims she was being held against her will at a local motel. the 32-year-old suspect appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine. they found three children all under the age of six years old in her room. a roll over crash that killed her five-year-old daughter a mother is facing manslaughter charges. she was not paying attention when she went on to richmond parkway on may 20th. investigators say she swerved to avoid another car and her suv flipped. the five-year-old girl was ejected and crushed by the vehicle. police say neither her nor the other's children were wearing any seat belts. a 13-year-old hayward girl

is being credited with arresting a suspected burglar that broke into her house. the girl was babysitting her younger -- when she heard a strange noise. she realized someone was rummaging through the garage. her mom who didn't want to be on camera shares what happened next. >> she called me. mommy there is two guys in the backyard that are trying to get in the house. i told her call 911 and i hung up and i called 911 and headed over here. >> police say they got to the house in time to seat two men leaving the backyard. they chased and arrested 22- year-old quentin and have strong leads on the second man. a former uc davis police officer involved in a pepper spraying incident two years ago is seeking disability insurance. pike was fired last year after an investigation. his case is scheduled to be

heard in sacramento next month. tonight crews will spray for mosquitoes in east san jose to stop the spread of west nile virus. the fogging begins around 11:00 p.m.. east of interstate 680 in the foothills. about a dozen dead birds have tested positive for the virus. a couple mosquitoes in the neighborhood were also infected. the county says the fog like spray is not toxic to humans or pets. time is 4:37. let's go to sal. keeping an eye on traffic. happy friday to you. >> happy friday. we are doing pretty well out there. we are looking at all the commutes. you can see traffic is going to be okay. starting off on interstate 80 westbound it looks pretty good. the marine layer is out there. it means you might run into fog in some of the areas if you are drives through. let's move along and take a look at the commute here on westbound bay bridge toll plaza. it is light. no problems getting into san francisco. if you are driving in san jose

northbound 280 does look good all the way up into the valley. let's go to steve. thank you, sir. a very good morning. we have a lot of low clouds around. what we call coastal eddy. that also helps enhance the fog bank. what was a very shallow fog bank is a much bigger fog bank. and it's starting to make its move. 50s for many. cool off. es are starting to still mid 60s though. most locations concord 57. fairfield 56. again very active down toward the desert southwest and up into reno. pretty good thunderstorm activity. you can still see that tropical moisture swinging around. and from palm springs to san diego back over to l.a.. we have some to the east. we have tropical clouds to the south. over us though things are pretty quiet. little low is moving in toward the california coast. that is helping to enhance the fog bank. cooler pattern is on the way. today it will continue all the way into the weekend. it looks like we will level off

on sunday. breezy and cooler. morning overcast giving way to sunshine. still warm. there will be a few areas into the 90s. my forecast zone goes from the oregon border to raleigh. temperatures did top out two days ago and you will see temperatures slide down the next couple of days and hang out there. a lot of 80s inland. 60s and 70s by the bay and 60s for most of the coast. the same law firm that took pg&e to court in the san bruno pipeline explosion will handle the chevron richmond refinery fire. some 15,000 people sought medical treatment. now the city of rich command has hired a law firm for damages from the fire. chevron says the city's decision to sue does not change the company's commitment to economic development in richmond. and the energy company haler burr ton will bleed guilty to destroying evidence.

foster which phosphor. the ntsb has new information about the airline's jet that had is a nose gear collapse. there is video showing sparks flying as the plane skidded down the runway. it appears the nose gear hit the runway. that is the opposite of what is supposed to happen. an investigation into spain's worse train disaster is focusing on the train's engineer. the train was going twice the speed limit when it crashed last wednesday. authorities now say 78 people were killed including one american. the train's engineer is still in the hospital. there are reports he posted a facebook picture of a train speedometer last year and bragged about going 100 miles an hour. there is a big cleanup ahead for a pizza restaurant in ma have tea -- novato after a

280 getting up to highway 17. that traffic is moving along very nicely. now to steve. all right, sal, thank you. well, a much stronger and bigger fog bank. it's gone from 1,000 to 1500 to 1700 feet. so it's starting to clear those coastal hills. cooler as it lifts this will not cause as many issues. it was pretty thick on the golden gate bridge. 50s on the temps or 60s. temperatures are a little cooler here. there is a pretty good fog bank here. big time thunderstorms up in reno yesterday. well actually along the sierra nevada. over to reno. had pretty hefty boomers. things are starting to come dawn. the beat goes on from arizona to southern california. palm springs and san diego dealing with those tropical clouds. we are not. we had a few of those. you can see them off in the distance. when you get a little low coming in, that is not a pattern. that is good for bringing in
