the meters lights are on. it is slow because when they have something on the bridge they slow the metering lights down this and the commute. back to dave and pam. >> we have developing news. firefighters are busy mopping up hot spots at the presidio. it started about 2:30 at a grassy area near the national cemetery. they faced a lot of challenges including poison oak and getting to water. a fire in the presidio is very unusual. >> this is the first oneky remember. i have been here 13 years. >> we get a lot of fog, not much fire. >> three acres burned. no buildings were threatened. >> an amber alert is in effect after a disturbing incident involving children in san diego county. and we have more from san jose

where amber alert signs are lit up along the freeways this morning. >> good morning. >> and as people drive to work this morning, you are going to notice these signs, as you mentioned, that are lit up here. they have a description of the car and the license plate that the authorities are looking for. two children may be inside of the car and they are in grave danger. and james lee dimaggio kidnapped the children which is in san diego county. they are hanna anderson and her brother. this is a video taken at the home in boulevard on sunday night in the rubble authorities found the body of kristina anderson, the mother, and another child. they suspect he is responsible. and they determined latest in that he kidnapped the children. >> we believe if they are with

him they are in danger. >> reporter: an amber alert was issued for the state. police believe he could be headed to texas for canada. but at this point they just don't know and they're looking for any tips. authorities believe that he is driving a blue four-door nissan. let's go to hit the license plate number it is 6 wcu 986. if you see the plate you are asked to call 911 or authorities immediately. investigators say that he was a friend of the children's mother and they again are very concerned. reporting live. we have details about a stabbing at a hardware store. the san francisco chronicle said that a customer stabbed an employee at a store 17 times on

sunday after that employee tried to call 911. the employee was trying to report that the customer had stolen spray paint and facing -- ent ping his face. the customer was making religious references. now the stabbing victim has been identified as daniel joseph stone. his attacker has been charged with murder and will be arraigned today. more coverage in a transit strike. bart trains may be running but now ac transit workers threatened to go on strike. and we go to oakland to find out what the drivers are saying this morning. >> reporter: i had a conversation with a driver. she does not want a strike and a walk out if that happens would leave a lot of regular

riders in a tough spot and stranded frankly. about 180,000 people rely on the system. they use it every day in alameda, unless a settlement can be reached today. drivers and others will go on strike at midnight. both sides hope they can agree on a contract before that happens. managers negotiatated late into the night with members of the transit unit local 192. that's the union that represents 1600 workers. i talked with a driver who is worried about a strike and about what her riders will do if they stop lolling -- rolling. >> i'm concerned about them because they have to get to work. if we cannot get them to work. a lot of times they cannot afford bart. they have to ride the bus.

>> this centers on salary and rest breaks. on the issue of pay, according to ac at least the sides are close. between about a percentage point or so. the uni representing the employees has not staged a strike in 38 years. and one driver does not want that to happen. it will put people in a tough spot. negotiations will continue to avert a strike. alex savage, channel 2 news. the two sides in the dispute will present their cases. the hearing will determine the next step affecting millions of commuters. the board will hear from management and union leaders and report to the governor. the gone will decide whether to impose a cooling off period.

in her arms last night at their home. in other news autopsies on two young boys in canada. they were strangled by a snake at a sleep over. they were sleeping in an apartment. it was above a reptile pet store. police say the 13-foot long snake got out of the enclosure and crawled into the room where the boys were sleeping. the man who owns a different store says that this kind of attack is unusual. there is a criminal investigation underway. and today the military trial starts for the accused shooter in the fort hood massacre. the major is charged with the rampage that killed 13 and injured 30. he is representing himself in court. many of those wounded are expected to testify. now he wanted to argue that he carried out the shooting in defense of muslims fighting american soldiers in

afghanistan but the judge denied that strategy. he does face the death penalty. restoring the mortgaging industry. the president will lay out plans to do that this afternoon. the president says he wants to help more people refinance. >> reporter: the administration says that it changed housing regulations to help the homeowners lock in an interest rate. now the president wants to take it a step further. he proposes waving closing coasts for those who finance into shorter determine loans. it could help the average american family save $3000 a year. that whip helm them build more equity and spent more and boost the economies. the president wants to phase out fanny mae and fredy mac. they receive $200 billion in a

the sheriff's department said he kidnapped hanna anderson and brother from the city of boulevard which is 60 miles southeast of san diego. the children's mother and another child were found dead in his home which had been set on fire. >> they got out there last night and we have been out there since. we have done a lot of interviews and looked at the scene. and we recovered alet of -- a lot of evidence. he was a friend of andersons. he may be heading to canada or texas. they don't know and they need tips. investigators believe that he may be driving a blue four-door versa it has a plate of 6 wcu

go of a historic post office without a fight. they have been camped out for days and were supposed to leave last night. but many are out there and brian is there on why they want to stay. >> reporter: good morning the protesters with the citizens to save the post office have been here for days. some have been here since the 24th. they have set up tents and a makeshift camp to protest the sale of the building. they say 25 people have been here. yesterday afternoon postal officers and inspectors handed out warning notes telling them to leave the site or risk arrest. many are trying to save the almost century old 5 # thousand foot building not only because of its significance to the city but because they say that it is needed. it put the building up for sale because it will save money. the service says that less

clouds. we'll see it head back to the coast. it will be back in a big way. and more of an inland push and it starts to inch closer. low clouds. inland mild and cool at the coast. 70s and 80s. and 80s that should be. thursday. rebound in the temperatures. higher interest rates are not the only things driving up the cost of buying a home. home origination and other fees are high mert last year. now, across the country the freeways average $2400 on a # hundred thousand dollars home. in california the average is more than $2600. and lenders say they have to do more work underwriting the loans and that increases the cost. homeowners who have mortgages are doing a better job of keeping up with the pavements.
