missing oakland woman. katie utehs is joining us now with what we are learning about his connection to sandra coke. good morning, katie. >> reporter: good morning. alana was last seen where coke's car and credit card. more on him in a moment. police have not said if he's the one that pointed them here to the solano county fairgrounds but that is where their search kicked off around 8:00 last night. excuse me that was 6:00 last night that the search began. as darkness fell search and rescue teams combed the area. oakland police say they are still treating this as a missing person's case. oak a federal investigator was last seen sunday evening. coke's car, cell phone, and credit cards have been located but still no sign of the

missing mother. investigators are not saying why they are searching the area that includes six flags and the fairgrounds. >> it's deemed we should start tonight to get it started. that decision was made with the oakland investigators as well as our search and rescue personnel. >> reporter: investigators called it a night in the early morning hours. they will pick that search back up around 8:00. oakland police have 56-year-old randy alana in custody. he has prior convictions for kidnap and rape. he's being held on a parole violation. coke's friend said she dated alana recently. at this point police are calling alana a person of interest. crews on scene did not find anything. however they will pick up that search again this morning at 8:00 a.m.. that search may include divers

sides. negotiations start at 10:00 this morning. one union leaders bart issues are red toy meantime the governors board of inquiry has not submitted its report to governor brown. by law the board must report to the governor within seven days from the time the panel is formed. that will be about 10:00 sunday night. both sides say they will continue to hash things out. as we mentioned both sides will work toward getting something done before the strike of midnight on sunday. >> i know it's something that is doable. i know based on the numbers we have been presented by the district and information that we put forth that this the deal is doable. and we can get it done by sunday. if both parties commit to the real information. >> at the end of the day, we are still very far apart on the proposals. we want to see movement this weekend. hopefully it can happen by sunday night. >> the big question is what is

there is a major new development in the brutal killing of a teenage girl in sacramento. yesterday prosecutors say they arrested a suspect in the brutal killing of jessica funk. the 13-year-old girl's body was found in the baseball dugout of a sacramento little league field in march of 2012. she had been beaten, choked, and stabbed. dna led to this break 17 months

after the killing. >> without dna i'm confident that jessica's murder would not have been involved. >> suspect identified as 23- year-old ryan douglas roberts. he's a dishwasher at a sacramento steak house. prosecutors are expected to give us more information about his arrest when he appears in court later today. civil rights lawyers filed a class action lawsuit against contra costa county over a practice of keeping juvenile hall teenagers in solitary confinement. the lawsuit is claiming mentally disabled teenagers are kept in solitary confinement for months at a time and denied education and treatment. the lawsuit also claims some teenagers get solitary confinement from minor infractions. another u.s. consulate after a new threat from al qaeda. as kyla campbell reports, the u.s. is also warning americans about traveling. kyla. >> reporter: the state

department says u.s. citizens should not travel to pakistan. the state department has evacuated all but a handful of emergency personnel from the u.s. consulate in lahore, pakistan. officials say there is a specific threat from al qaeda against that compound. we don't know yet if he will take questions. as of now about 20 consulates in the middle east and africa remained closed. that decision came after the u.s. intelligence we could learn more today when president barack obama holds a press conference. that one is scheduled for noon pacific. we have details on al qaeda turning to a new type of liquid explosive. i will break that down for you next. kyla campbell ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning former secretary of state condoleezza

rice says she supports president obama's decision to cancel a meeting with vladimir putin. rice says the president is absolutely right to cancel the meeting. after what she called russia's quote slap in the face to the u.s. when it gave asylum to former nsa contractor edward snowden. rice who served as secretary state is an expert on russia and currently a political science professor at stanford, university. your time now 6:18. two friends they are facing new charges. yesterday a federal grand jury indicted those two young men on obstruction of justice. the two men went to tsarnaev's dorm room and removed incriminating evidence. up until now they faced charges of conspiracy. if convicted they could face up to 25 years in prison. menlo park police may have

license plate readers in that patrol cars. council members says the city has to agree on a policy for how long the data will be stored. parking control officers are taking pictures as they take out traffic tickets. muni issue a new order they take photos of most traffic violations when they write tickets in san francisco. the infractions include blocking driveways, packing on sidewalks and violating construction zone parking lots. the photos will be used as evidence against anyone who wants to try to fight that ticket in court. time now 6:19. in 90 minutes from right now very smart high school students from mills high school will retake some tests. that is because the college board threw out the advanced placement test taken last may at mills high school. the board validated their scores saying the students were

winning ticket in the $448 million power ball. a grow of 16 coworkers bought the winning ticket at this acme market in little league harbor, new jersey. they work at a county vehicle maintenance garage. they are going to split the $86 million prize. yesterday a 45-year-old engineer from minnesota became the first winner to claim his share of the jackpot. >> i don't want to work for anybody else for the rest of my life. i mean far paycheck. i don't mind spending my money if i find something a charity or whatever it might be to keep myself busy. >> that is my kind of guy. the third winning ticket was also sold in new jersey at a super market in authority bankruptcy -- north brunswick. more than 1,000 musicians will perform this weekend at the jazz summer fest.

reporting good sales for the summer. so sort of mixed news. we will keep an eye on business news. >> we will smile and say good morning, to you. thank you for joining us here on ktvu channel 2 morning news. it is friday, august 9th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. time is 6:30. >> we have developing news in san jose. three people were shot at an apartment complex this morning. ktvu janine de la vega is there now and you say it happened near a basketball court. what happened? >> yeah. that is right. we are here at the san jose apartments. that is near cunningham avenue. and you can see police have their tape up here. they are inside this apartment complex. investigating a shooting that happened just after 4:00 this morning. officers are inside the complex processing evidence. we understand that three people were involved. but none of these victims were actually found here at the scene. and to explain a little bit more of what happened here i'm joined by lieutenant dan inia cost that with the san jose police department.

how did this take place? >> we got a report. we have officers working at hospitals as security and some victims drove up that were shot so he reported it over the radio. and at the same time we received phone calls that a person was shot. and shortly after that a shot fired call came in. >> reporter: how many shots fired and how bad are the injuries? >> there were multiple shots fired. the injuries range from the extremities to the midsections. we are not sure of the details. >> reporter: this is two men and one woman. you are saying young adults. are they going to survive? >> all are nonlife threatening injuries. wiz just got that report -- all we just got that from the doctor. >> reporter: do we know if this is gang related at all? >> we have no suspect

information. we are still going to try to conduct interviews and we are looking for more witnesses. >> reporter: okay how is this neighborhood? is this considered a safe neighborhood? or is there a lot of -- is it a hot spot? >> it's considered one of the areas that is close to a hot spot. but it's a lot better than it used to be. and you know like most neighborhoods it's just a surprise. >> reporter: okay thank you so much lieutenant danny. again officers will stay here because this has turned into assault with a deadly weapon. not a homicide. all the victims in this case with nonlife threatening injuries. reporting live janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. we have developing news in vallejo. police will be searching for a missing oakland woman. sandra coke. police have identified this man randy alana on the left as a person of interest in the case.

ktvu katie utehs is joining us live to tell us where the search will focus on and what the police are saying about sandra coke's connection to randy alana. katie. >> reporter: dave, i will speak about his connection in a moment. but first we are getting our first daylight look of the search area which includes the solano county fairgrounds. it is an undeveloped area near vallejo. and the search area is rather vast. and today will actually be the first time investigators will get a look at this area in the daylight. oakland police detectives called for the search of the fairgrounds last night around 6:00 as they looked for 50-year- old sandra coke. police are still calling this a missing persons case. coke was last seen sunday evening. recently she had been looking for her dog. >> boundaries of i-80 on one side and the city of vallejo on

the other side. it's a large search area. >> reporter: oakland police do have 56-year-old randy alana in custody. he has prior convictions for kidnap and rape. he's being held on a parole violation. coke's friends says she dated alana briefly 20 years ago. he was seen on surveillance video using coke's credit card putting gas in his car. the search area is vast and includes six flags, discovery kingdom, and the fairgrounds. search crews will be back here at 8:00 a.m.. that may include dive teams. live at the fairgrounds katie utehs ktvu channel 2 news. there are two wild fires burning out of control in california. that is 20 miles west of palm springs. 14,000-acres have burned. it is only about 20% contained at this point. and it has destroyed 26 homes and one commercial buil as many as 600 homes still

threatened as we reported yesterday crews from san mateo and santa cruz county are helping in that fire fight. so far 1500 people have been forced to evacuate their homes. there is also a fire about 70 miles away in the angeles national forest. that fire has burned about 60 acres with 300 firefighters on the front lines. mandatory evacuations ordered this that area. there is an emergency shelter set up at a local high school. the cause of both of those fires under investigation. a man suspected of kidnapping two children triggering an amber alert in four states mexico and canada may have rigged his car with explosives. he may have abandoned his blue nissan after setting a trap. police about anyone who thinks they may have spotted him or his car, stay away and call 911. he's suspected of starting a fire in san diego county that

killed hannah and e than ander -- ethan anderson's mother and child. this morning a san jose nonprofit are making sure kids are ready for the school year. they are giving away backpacks to more than 2400 kids today. this is video of the preparations that were under way early this morning. children will also be able to pick up school supplies. >> we need to make sure that they are confident going into school and they are ready to take on the challenges. those challenges are significant. >> reporter: the gaveway starts at 10:00 this morning. families are asked make an appointment. we have a special section at websites with for ways to save on back to school shopping and more. and we have posted pictures of

our reporters and photographers. it's all under the back to school tab on our home page. >> some funny pictures there too. funny in a nice way. sal is not laughing about what is going on around the toll plaza. >> no. no, i'm not. as a matter of fact, we do have slow traffic there westbound at the bay bridge. backed up for about a 15 minute delay now at the toll plaza. it's not all that bad. it's a little bit of slowing though . i would say it's ten minutes. there is word of a crash on a lower deck eastbound near treasure island in one of the right lanes. several vehicles are pulling over. this is a look at interstate 880 in oakland. and the traffic is moving along very nicely with no major problems here as you drive through. westbound 580 we still have some road work to repair damage from an earlier crash. 580 is backed up into

livermore. if this is your commute, you might want to use an alternate or give yourself extra time. let's go to rosemary. it's a gloomy start. take a look at this shot. we have plenty of cloud cover out there. the patchy drizzle. as you get out the door this morning prepare you may have the windshield wipers going. for the afternoon temperatures will be slightly warmer. we are starting to see a bit of a turn around in our pattern. the system here that has been off the coast is finally beginning to shift north. as it gets out of our way, the temperatures will begin to warm a bit. for this morning the low clouds are with us once again. the drizzle outside our doors. we even have the possibility of thunderstorms over parts of northern california today. if you are going to tahoe it's a slight chance. 20% for today and the weekend looks good. there is a red flag warning for portions of northern california lasting through the afternoon for the possibility of lightning. and lightning triggering off a few new firings. we are tracking that for you.

the state department ordered an evacuation of the u.s. consulate in lahore pakistan because of specific threats. all dip la mat -- diplomats have been told to leave that consulate and move to the capitol city of islam bad. dna evidence led to the arrest of a brutal killing of a 13-year-old sacramento girl that was killed last year. the body of jessica funk haslam was found in the dugout of a little league field. she had been beaten, choked, and stabbed. four bay area families are now suing boeing and asiana airlines for last night's crash at sfo. there are three other lawsuits but this is the first to include boeing. it claims boeing and asiana rushed pilots through training on the 777 aircraft. it also says injuries could

have been prevented if the plane had shoulder harnesses for everyone. now back to our -- brian flores is in oakland where the two sides will head back to the bargaining table a little later this morning. brian. >> reporter: hi, pam. bottom line both sides remain far apart on reaching an agreement on some of the key critical issues like salary, pension, and health benefits. as we head toward that critical deadline is there any sign of hope for reaching an agreement? at this point we will have to wait and see. negotiations resume at 10:00 this morning. bart workers are ready to issue another strike notice later today if they don't see any progress in the associations. meantime the governors board of inquiry has not released its plan to the board.

>> she does. 6:49 is the time. let's check in with sal for a look at traffic. sal. >> all right. there is a new minor crash in santa clara we just heard about. northbound 101 at the montague expressway. it's there. it is being moved to the shoulder. already a little bit of slow traffic there. the 101 commute hasn't been all that bad today. we've had a pretty good commute on 280 and highway 85. also we are looking at the commute westbound 580 and westbound 80 getting to the bay bridge toll plaza. that is backed up for a minor delay. it's about a five minute delay. if you are driving on 880 in oakland it's looking good. a remind they are is an exhibition game. the raiders will host the dallas cowboys. that will make for traffic in the amp. now to rosemary. good morning to you. isn't that a beautiful shot of the low clouds hanging right over the east bay hills.

afternoon. and temperatures will remain in the upper 50s to low 60s so it will be a cool day there at golden gate park for the entire day. here's a look at your afternoon highs. 66 for san francisco. 71 in hayward. 82 for antioch. and the extended forecast with your weekend in view shows you a gradual warmup through the weekend and beyond. back to you. this morning there is a report that apple's board of directors is growing frustrated at company's lack of visible innovation. fox news reports the board is pushing ceo tim cook to innovate and quote do something fast. that is despite apple stock rallying more than 10% until the last month. as we head into the last month of summer vacations gas prices are slipping. right now the average price in san francisco is just about $4 a gallon. it's about 12-cents a gallon around the rest. that means gas prices are down three cents in the last week. and now we are paying less than at the pump than we did at this time last year. >> and i'm happy to do that.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. 6:55 is the time. san jose police have a suspect in custody in the deadly shooting of a college student. 23-year-old johnny lozano faces homicide charges. the 19-year-old woman was a nursing student at san jose state university. she was killed early saturday morning in downtown san jose. investigators say she was just riding in a car when she was hit by a stray bullet. police officers say that an alert officer in san jose's gang suppression unit actually spotted the suspect in south san jose and made the arrest. new this morning a peace group in oakland is at the parking lot to remember crime victims. we took video of the candle light memorial early this morning. the group make oakland better has held similar stop the violent tailgates ahead of raider football games. they fear the organization in the city may be getting worse
