we are following breaking news in alabama. a ups cargo plane has crashed near the birmingham airport. the faa says the aircraft was an 8300 that crashed on approach to the airport just before dawn this morning. it was flying from louisville to birmingham before it went down. we'll have live updates throughout the ktvu morning news. in the meantime we are following developing news of a deadly shooting near san

lorenzo. claudine wong is live at the scene with what police are saying about the investigation. claudine what do you know so far? >> it's still very early. we just spoke to a sergeant on scene. we have the latest information for you. this area remains blocked off. you can see a little further down from where we are standing is where a police car still sits. we are waiting for the crime scene techs to get here. it could be shut down for hours. it has been shut down for hours since the police got the call for help. >> about 12:07 this morning alameda county sheriffs deputies responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the 1800 block of rob scott avenue. and unincorporated san lorenzo. upon arrival we found a hispanic male down.

deadly construction accident in san jose city college. a construction vehicle backed up and hit and killed a woman yesterday. the school has not said if the person killed was a student and will not release the victim's identity until her family is notified. one person left flowers at the accident site. >> everybody is so close to each other. even though you didn't know the person, it's like losing somebody who you did know. >> reporter: classes are not in session right now, many students and professors are on campus preparing for the start of the school year at the end of the month. now that the body of sandra coke has been identified, investigators are looking into how she died. oakland police would only say a body of a woman found in vacaville last week was coke. they are not commenting on how

she died. convicted rainest alana was found with -- rapest alana was scene with coke. >> what we will say at this time is that randy alana is still considered a person of interest. >> coke's relatives did not mention alana in a statement they released and said they say quote the coke family is devastated by the loss of our beloved sandra. meantime coke's coworkers issued a statement as well saying they are heartbroken. it reads in part she was a compassionate and thorough investigator. yes happening today the family of daphne web is planning a walk to show their commitment to finding the little girl. daphne's father reported her missing on july 10th.

he told police that the 21- month-old girl was taken from a car outside a store. the reward in the unsolved case of a baby and his father shot and killed in an oakland home is up to $30,000. a sidewalk memorial was held yesterday for one-year-old drew jackson and 20-year-old andrew thomas. family members pleaded for police. they say the code of no snitching has to stop. hundreds of city workers are in the second day of a three-day strike. they say they have been working without a contract since april. they are reportedly asking for a 5% pay hike but says the city wants them to give up 5% of what they earn and pay more into their pensions. >> i just bought my little house in hayward. i just want my job.

i just want you to stop taking away from me. >> the city of hayward says although the economy is improving, it still faces a projected $2.6 million budget short fall for next year and says city 9:00 heads, management, and firefighters have agreed to reductions. a worker says he was hit bea white van yesterday morning. union leaders thought the white van might be a replacement worker but he said he was just trying to get a building permit. the union worker was taken to the hospital but there are no updates. we are following developing news out of egypt this morning. security forces launched an all out assault on two protest camps set up by supporters of former president mohammed morsi. they fired tear gas and moved in with bulldozers. there are reports of dozens of protestors killed in the assault.

hundreds have been arrested. protest if force staged -- protestors staged a sit in saying they won't leave until morsi is reinstated as president. indian news agency broadcast the pictures of this blast. at least some of the 18 crew members have died. the diesel power subbed had just been overhauled and upgraded. it's too early to determine the cause but india has been high alert for possible terror attacks. time is 4:38. a standoff at a louisiana bank ended with a hostage and gunman dead. the 20-year-old suspect had no intention of robbing a bank. he later freed a female bank teller but just before midnight as swat teams moved in he shot the other two hostages killing one of them. police then killed him. >> he was mad at people. he was mad at people who he

said were mean to him. he had voices in his head. >> they say he was mentally unstable and believe a device was implanted in his head. prosecutors will present their closing arguments today in the accused serial killer naso. naso is accused of killing four women in the 1970s and 1990s. he is expected to give his closing arguments on friday. a former livermore teacher has been freed from prison after sexually assaulting a 14- year-old student. marie johnson pleaded no contest and sentenced to three years in state prison but given credit for time served. she had been in jail since she was arrested in january of 2012. johnson will have to register as a sex offender.

we will know tomorrow if the new eastern span of the bay bridge will open on labor day weekend. the span looks close to completion. it had a picturesque glow early this morning as crews tested a one of a kind lighting system. it features steel poles with 48,000 led lights. >> each led is tailored to a beam at a certain location on the bridge and makes a very smooth lighting controlling the spill and glare. >> a bridge oversight committee will announce when they will open the span. a multimillion dollar celebration will be scaled back given the recent set backs. there could be traffic gridlock just before the opening. cal tran says they need to shut down the bridge for four full days to transition traffic on to the new eastern span.

channel 2 morning news. there are new details of the 16- year-old girl who was abducted to her san diego home. she is now speaking out about her ordeal on social media. a person claiming to be hannah anderson said her abductor threatened to kill her if she tried to escape. she also says he deserved to be killed by fbi agents. her father says he plans to move his daughter to tennessee so they can make a fresh start. smart phone users are being asked to keep the emergency alerts in light of the hannah anderson rescue. it was the first time an amber alert had gone out to all smart phone users in california. some of whom complained the alert was noisy and confusing. authorities are working to identify two people killed in a plane crash that sparked a brush fire north of sacramento.

the plane crashed late yesterday morning about five miles east of economy koa. two bodies were found in the plane. meantime this morning a wild fire near a mountain resort in utah was burned at least a dozen homes and threatening 250 more. the rock port fire northeast of park city is just 5% contained and torched 4,000 acres. hundreds of homeowners had few minutes to gather their belongings before evacuating. >> we were able to get in and get our most important things. our pets and some documents. we didn't have too much time to get out. >> firefighters say the fire was sparked by lightning. a candidate for mayor of new york city is calling for sweeping changes to the city's drug laws. john lou says the city should legalize medical marijuana and allow adults to possess up to an ounce of pot.

by surprise if the lost shares. they lost 45%. u.s. airways stock dropped 13 percent. several new gun control bills are making their way through the state legislature in sacramento. if they are passed, california would have the toughest gun laws in the country. gun control advocates faced off against gun right supporters on the issue of public safety. the committee approved a package of bills that would ban all semi automatic rifles. this morning a federal appeals court in san francisco will hear arguments on california's ban on selling shark fins. two asian american groups are challenging the ban. they say the sharks are caught humanely and all parts of the shark are used. time now 4:4. today marks the first day of classes for the fall semester at city college in san francisco.

hunters mother is pushing to have it euthanized. a couple in berkly is -- adam koa when was commuting home. when he came across a group of wind surfers that found a dog out in the bay. he put the dog in his boat and brought her home. >> i go back and forth every day and not a lot of stuff happening out there usually. and to be able to really help this poor little animal was really it felt really good. it felt really good. >> a veterinarian says the dog appears to be a puppy. just about one year old. maybe a lab mix. interested in the camera. she has a collar, no tags and does not have a microchip. you went out and talked to the dog. >> nice dog. beautiful dog. hopefully they can find an owner. we are continuing to follow breaking news from alabama this
