good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. big delays for b.a.r.t. and scary moments for others. here's more. >> reporter: the good news, b.a.r.t. service has been back to normal system wide for about two hours. the bad news, b.a.r.t. passengers likely have bad memories after the ride this morning. this is a picture from a viewer. a san francisco train stalled in the transbay tube for about half an hour. the lead car lost power plunging that car into darkness. here is a viewer's cell phone video. some passengers said they smelled chemicals during this ordeal. they were smelling brake fuels.

>> this whole experience was an anonmy. it's not something that we expected. we expect good, on-time service from b.a.r.t. we regret we had this problem this morning. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. officials are still trying to determine what caused the lead car to lose power. they add the delays were compounded by medical emergencies with a medical emergency. john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. a deadly accident in san francisco after a big rig and bicyclist collided. it happened just after 7:00 near 6th and folsom streets. brian flores is there and tells us whether the driver is -- is facing charges. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. you have cars, bicyclists and trucks in close vicinity of each other in this accident.

this is the latest accident. i just got off the phone with the san francisco police department. they say this appears to be an accident. for now, it's still under investigation. the driver will not face any charges. this after a 24-year-old woman they say was kill as she was riding her bicycle on folsom. this is around the same time a boxed truck was trying to make a right turn onto 6th at folsom. police say the driver didn't see the bicyclist and collided near the right rear tire of the truck. >> a bicyclist pulls up from the rear traveling eastbound folsom. as he begins his turn, he says he hears a noise, stops his truck, gets out and see the bicyclist on the road. >> reporter: after she was hit, the victim was taken to san francisco general where she died as a result of her injuries. she has not been identified yet. neither has the driver.

we spoke to a bike rider on 6th and folsom this morning. he said this latest incident makes him service. >> i hope the city bigs bigger and better bike lines and takes care of cyclists. my sister rides her bike every day, too. >> reporter: police say the driver has been cooperating with police. he was not cited. they say at this point, he will not be charged. as we take it back out here live, the circles indicate where the bicyclist was hit. police have come back at least one more time to make more measurements and continue the investigation. they did close off this area for close to two hours. as you can see, it's reopen. brian floor as -- brian floor ras, ktvu channel 2 news. and in golden gate there was another collision between a pedestrian and a bike rider. according to the spokeswoman

for the san francisco police, the bicyclists and the pedestrian were taken to the hospital. the extent of the injuries are not known at this time. closing arguments are set to begin in the trial of accused serial killer joseph naso. the morning's session was spent discussioning about the impact of -- discussing discuss -- discussing the impact a sign in a car had. there were signs that naso was the killer. the jurors said they did not see the car or the sign. he's accused of killing four women in the 1970s and 1990s. he's expected to give his own closing arguments on friday. alameda county sheriff investigators are looking into the death of a man found in an uncorp rated area of san lorenzo. deputies responded to a call of gunshots around midnight on robscott near ginger. the 33-year-old victim was

found lying dead in the street. neighbors say they heard the gunfire but did not think much of it. >> i thought it was coming from the alleyway right in back, right after the gunshots, we did hear a car take off. >> reporter: the investigators say the victim did not live in the neighborhood and they say a key part of the investigation will be to determine what he was doing there. police in the east bay city of pittsburg have arrested a suspect. they arrested kenneth thompson at a home in martinez this morning. they say he's the person who fired in a car wounding three men and leaving one of them paralyzed. he's also wanted for attempted homicide in antioch. police say they've been trying to track him down for some time. the body of sandra coke has been identified. we're now waiting to find out how she died. >> god bless her family. >> oakland police would only

confirm the body found in vacaville was coke but would not comment on the cause of death. randy alana was seen with coke the night she disappeared. >> what we will say is randy alana is still considered a person of interest. >> in a statement released by coke's relatives they say -- >> coke's co workers issued a statement. it reads in part -- the santa clara county coroner has identified the woman struck and killed by construction machinery yesterday at san jose city college. 49-year-old maga gonzalez died

at the hospital while she was hit. katie utehs is live where students are questioning their own safety. >> reporter: good afternoon. i spoke with two women who are students on campus. they were walking in that same spot about ten minutes before the deadly collision yesterday. this whole campus appears to be surrounded by construction. if you take a look over my shoulder, there's really -- it's unclear where the construction area begins and where it is safe to walk. that's some of the concerns that people are having. the women i spoke to, they don't recall any construction tape blocking off the area. around 11:00 yesterday morning, five dispatchers responded to reports of a front-loader being used for work at san jose city college had struck a woman. you are looking at video from the scene, you can see the large machinery involved in the collision still on the sidewalk. the worker was part -- was part of a crew. he was installing a water valve.

did not see the victim as he backed off. this morning, the corer in identified the -- the coroner identify the woman. show may have been a student returning to campus trying to register for new classes. the coroner say she's from san jose. we're still working to learn more details about her life and why she was on campus yesterday. students getting ready for the fall semester, they say are concerned about campus safety. >> i feel like maybe the construction crew could have done a better job of regulating this area. and even the entire day before i had mentioned there was no signs saying that we are coming to a construction zone. >> reporter: construction is at a standstill at this point as it has been since yesterday's collision. we have calls into cal/osha

recording their investigation and my colleague, robert who handa, is working -- robert handa, is working on this for our evening newscast. live in san jose, katie utehs, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, katie. a 10-year-old boy mauled by a pit bull in antioch is scheduled to undergo more surgery today. in a few hours, hunter killborn will have head and face skin grafts. he already had surgery on monday to reattach his right ear. doctors say he may be paralyzed on the right side of his face. the boy was visiting a friend in antioch over the weekend when attacked by two pit bulls. one dog was quarantined and hunter wants the other dog euthanized. the 16-year-old san diego girl kidnapped after her mother and brother were killed may be speaking out about her ordeal on social media. a person claiming to be heather anderson posted that her abductor, james dimaggio,

"threatened to kill me and anyone who tried to help." she also wrote that dimaggio deserved to be killed by fbi agents, "he deserved what he got." one of heather anderson's friends confirm the post was her. the account has been disabled. in less than an hour, the family of daphne webb is planning a walk to show their commitment to finding her. the walk begins at 1:00 outside of the oakland police department at 7th and broadway. daphne's mother reported her missing on july 10th. that's about five weeks ago. he told police, the 21-month- old girl was taken from a car while inside a store. plunging more than 9,000 feet in two minutes. we'll tell you about the deadly crash that involves a u.p.s. cargo plane this morning. another nice day in the bay area. ktvu's mark tamayo will be here to tell you how long it will last. students in the south bay head back to school.

supporting ousted president mohamed morsi. police have attacked two sit-in camps set up by islamic backers. they've killed 200 people and injured many others. police officers are among the dead. from president obama 'vacation spot in martha's vineyard, the u.s. condemned the violence. >> we have repeatedly called on the egyptian military and security forces to show restraint and for the government to respect the universal rights of its citizens just as we've urged protesters to demonstrate peacefully. >> the egyptian government has declared a curfew and a month- long state of emergency. a pilot and copilot are dead after a u.p.s. cargo plane crashed in birmingham, alabama. it happened around 4:00 this morning, just outside of the perimeter of the airport at the end of a 45-minute flight from louisville, kentucky. you can see the enti front half of the plane is separated from the rest of the body. according to a flight-tracking

website, the plane plummeted more than 9,000 feet in two minutes. >> we don't know why it crashed. it left a long debris field and broke into several parties with the fuselage and wings separated. >> the ntsb is sending a rapid response team from washington as well as an investigator from its atlanta office. city college of san francisco is making new demands today that a decision to pull its accreditation be reversed because of problems within the accrediting commission. in the last hour, city college held a teleconference and said the u.s. department of education complaint against the commission validates the demands. the president of the california federation of teachers says the problem goes beyond city college. >> we've urged the u.s.

department of education to thoroughly scrutinize the commission's work during the upcoming consideration of the commission's application for continued fedel itio >> he claims the commission has disploesed a high number of sanctions against community colleges in california. the sttion said last month that city college had not done enough to address problems and would lose its accreditation a year from now. it's the first day of school for some bay area students. some are being introduced to big changes in the way there learn and how they are -- in the way they learn and how they are graded. burnett is one of the schools introducing new teaching methods as part of a pilot program. students will be using ipads in the classroom with apps that help with individualized learning. teachers will work on a grading system that will provide more information about the students' strengths and weaknesses in

and pay more into their ponetions. the city says although the economy is improving. it fill face as did 2.6 million shortfall. the three-day strike ends tomorrow. a volunteer group that provides medical, social and housing services all under one roof is celebrating a milestone. san francisco mayor ed lee helped project homeless connect mark its 50th event with a rally at bill graham auditorium this morning. organizers say more than 10,000 people have been housed with housing, more than 4,000 with dental care and volunteers have provided 55,000 pounds of food. >> make sure we continue with generations of other people. we've got to continue being helpful and compassionate. this is what san francisco is all about. thank you for being a great san francisco. person accomplish in a day what might take months if that person had to go through each task individually. well, the advertised warmup remains right on track. temperatures started to warm up yesterday and today. we're talking about the 90s. here's our live camera looking out towards san francisco bay. there's the bay bridge. you will notice fog is absent here. as far as the fog, it's still showing up on the satellite. here's a closer inspection. some leftover patches around monterey bay. it's being shredded apart near the bridge. still some left over at half moon bay and pillar points. as far as current temperatures a big range. upper 50s in half moon bay. 64 in hayward. the warmest location inland in the 80s on track to reach the 90s. livermore, 83 degrees. fairfield at 80.

this layer of warm air has rushed up above our head. it's compressing the marine layer. as a result of that, we have dense fog, especially for the morning hours. as i showed you, we still have leftover patches there. away from this, you definitely feel it with the temperatures on track to reach the 80s and 90s. high pressure has been the theme, basically starting yesterday and today. rebuilding into the area. that's the source of our warming trend. mostly sunny, warm, hot. here in the bay area, we have options. the beach is only in the 60s right around the bay and in the 70s, a few spots approaching the 80s. inland 80s. 93 to 95. here's our forecast model showing you this, of course, we have the patchy coastal fog this afternoon. into the evening hours, 10:00, the fog on the increase pushing back into the bay, overcast expected. first thing thursday morning near the coast, near the bay, oakland, fremont and a few patches for san jose. temperatures this afternoon, we're talking about lower 90s for santa rosa.

fairfield, 93. oakland mid-70s. downtown san francisco in the upper 60s. 69 degrees. some more neighborhoods, san jose mid-80s. san mateo, 79. of course, back to school, prep this map for the north bay up in santa rosa for tomorrow at santa rosa elementary and santa rosa high school. if you want to bundle up, temperatures in the 50s and then you can see the nice recovery back up to 85 degrees. your five-day forecast -- we cool things off for thursday and then friday. in fact, friday morning, we could be talking about drizzle and then we warm things up. by just a few degrees for saturday and especially by sunday. tori, already back to school, the calendar is moving along so quickly. we'll be tracking those back-to- school forecast days. >> thank you, mark. tomorrow is decision day. it's expected to -- we're expected to find out whether the new eastern span of the bay bridge will open over labor day weekend after all.
