you say it started from a call from a 12-year-old girl. >> reporter: she called for help and all this ended with shots being fired. i want to show you the scene out here on tennyson road. it's surrounded by a gate security. the view we have is from behind this metal gate. the crime scene unit is on scene. if we pan a little bit in, there are folks and officers talking to people there. this all happened at about 9:30 last night, a little bit before when this 12-year-old girl called police to tell them that her dad was threatening her mother with a knife, and then they talked about what happened next. >> the call came from a young female claiming her parents were involved in a fight. dispatchers could hear loud commotion fighting going on in the background. officers responding and while they were responding the child

advised that the father had armed himself with a knife and was threatening to kill the mother. >> back here live on tennyson road, what happened next was multiple officers arrived at the scene of the apartment complex. officers maiden try and almost immediately after that, the man lunged at them and did something that was confrontational and threatening and that's when officers opened fire. he was taken to the hop and pronounced dead. the mother and two girls were inside, they were all unharmed but they spent the night at the police station and they tried to put it off. they are all considered veteran officers with five years on the force. we don't know how many officers were on scene when this happened and we don't know how many shots were fired. they're still putting all of this will together. they expect this active crime scene to continue throughout the morning. it may take hours to process

the whole scene. they'll make sure they have the evidence to put it together. at the time the 911 call was made, they could hear the argument in the background and then the girl stayed on the phone with dispatchers until those shots were fired. at the minimum they have an audio recording of the entire events as they unfolded. >> time is 6:04, a teenage girl was robbed and her classmate was hurt. it happened during a bold attack at the san jose high school. it happened as classes were letting out. we have new information from police. >> that's right. i just talked to police, the boy who was injured in this incident was still in the hospital as of last night. he's believed to have been pistol whipped trying to help another student during a robbery. this is the first week of class here at silver creek hospital. a girl was approached by a

bridge. here's a look at the live picture of the bridge. this is from our camera on treasure island this morning. they'll announce the opening date during a public meeting in oakland at 10:00 this morning. most roads point to tuesday december 3rd. they need ideal conditions because they will shut down the bridge for five full days before the opening to move the old and the cost of the new br idge is $6.4 billion. and it's four times more than estimated. it will be shut down for five days starting wednesday august 28th. construction work would take place during the holiday weekend and with the bridge

ages 11 and 12. a fight broke out at 9:30 last night, a fight intense enough to have one of the daughters calling 911. >> dispatchers could hear loud commotion fighting going on in the background, officers are responding and while they were responding the child advised that the father had armed himself with a knife and was threatening to kill the mother. >> that prompted dispatchers to send multiple units to the apartment complex. the first officers got inside and moments later shots were fired. >> it was instantaneous as soon as the officers got in the apartment. >> police say what kind of knife was used or what they did to prompt officers to open fire but they will say officers feared for their lives. >> back live here on tennyson road on the 2100 block, the officers involved have more than five years of experience now on paid administrative leave as is policy, the mother and two daughters inside the

the next hour as well. a private school in palo alto is scheduled to receive a report today why it has exceeded its enrollment cap. this school was issued a scallop in 2000 that allows it to enroll 415 schools, neighbors say it's overenrolled. they admit that it's 33 students over the enrollment cap. they're working to address the neighborhood concerns. they're holding a community meeting tonight. time now 6:45, the wreckage of that ups cargo plane that crashed in birmingham, alabama. they're searching for the black box flight recorders. there's little information because there's no distress call before that plane crashed. witnesses reported hearing a sputtering sound. that's raising the speculation that may have had a mechanical

problem. the two pilots object board died in that crash. people in utah forced to evacuate because of a fast moving wildfire. they may be able to go back home today. the fire destroyed about 14 homes near the resort town of park city utah. 200 other homes though are still threatened. firefighters hope to allow the people back home by last night, but they extended that evacuation order because of the winds shifting. this wildfire is one of dozens right now burning throughout the west. in a landmark decision, starting neck week military personnel will be granted leave to get married in same sex relationships. they have as many as seven days extra leave if they are stationed 100 miles from a state where same sex marriage is available. benefits will be able available to same sex marriages.
