all the way through into downtown oakland. if you are driving on the bay bridge approach, this traffic is looking good. westbound at the toll plaza no major problems. the traffic is looking good. i also want to mention the traffic in san francisco along northbound 101 is fine. a little bit of fog out there. we do have a crash in livermore with no injuries eastbound. 580 near north livermore avenue. let's go back to the desk. topping our news this morning police are looking for the gunman behind a deadly shooting that killed one young woman and sent a man running from the gunfire. claudine wong is in oakland and has new information and video. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning, pam. we're at oakland police headquarters. within the last 15 minutes we did get new information about this overnight shooting that left a woman dead and a man fighting for his life. i want to give you look at the scene. this is the 800 block of 100th

avenue. here's what we know, the two victims were in a parked car when the shooter or shooters came up and started firing. the woman was killed. pronounced dead at the scene and the man is in critical but unstable condition. and at last word was in emergency surgery. the motive of the shooting, still unclear. this comes one day after oakland police announce the latest crack down on crime. it's on a new program but operation cease fire is back on the streets of oakland. yesterday eight men were targeted. >> we are learning more and more about how these individual groups are functioning as far as how they are making their money. through different robberies, burglaries, and other crimes throughout the city. >> reporter: it is still unclear the motive behind the latest homicide in oakland. we know rifle rounds were found at the scene but do not know why. this area where it happen asked

a residential area. police tell me they do not get a lot of calls out there. they are hoping witnesses and this investigation will help them track down whoever is responsible. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. a baby shot and killed in oakland will be remembered in a special service today. a celebration of life is being held for one-year-old drew jackson. it's set for 11:00 at wfd fuller funerals. drew's mother requested that no one wear black to the service. drew and his father were shot and killed last wednesday while sleeping at a relative's house. a $30,000 reward is being offered in that case. more than $51,000 has been raised to support the 16-year- old daughter of sandra coke. supporters are trying to raise $100,000 for the sandra coke fund at crowdrise.com. a man from coke's past is a person of interest in her death. he is being held without bail

on unrelated charges. the accident happened shortly before 9:00 last night on southbound 280 near highway 101. officers say the driver lost control and rolled his car. when they arrived, he ran away, jumped over the railing and suspended major injuries. bay bridge construction crews must race against time to open the new eastern span now. an oversight committee approved the deadline. the existing bridge will shut down on wednesday, august 28th starting at 8:00 p.m.. the span will open by 5:00 a.m. tuesday september 3rd. while most of the construction is done, crews still need to installth temporary fix to the faulty bolts. workers will also use the five day closure to align the bridge with the tunnel plus reroute and repave traffic lanes that connect to the new span -- that

the supporters are promising marchs nationwide. defieing the government's month long state of emergency. the government has authorized a use of deadly force targeting police and government constitutions. institutions. in santa clara last night some egyptian americans held a candle lite vigil. one man said his brother-in-law is one of the hundreds killed. >> we were told he was shot yesterday by someone within the field hospital. we couldn't get ahold of him this morning when his id sr -- and people start to think this is an unclaimed body. >> many gathered at the vigil say they don't necessarily support the political position, but they do support their right of freedom of speech.

the sentencing hearing for army private bradley manning continues today. coming up at 4:43 the prestigious honor one marin county man says manning deserves for releasing documents to wikileaks. accused serial killer joseph naso is scheduled to give his closing arguments in his own trial today. he is acting as his own attorney. he is charged with the murder of four prostitutes. prosecutors delivered their closing arguments on wednesday. they read from naso's journal which allegedly detailed his attacks. the alameda county sheriffs department is trying to find a woman who has not been seen in more than a month. maxine lives in hayward. she was last seen by her roommate five weeks ago but was only reported missing last week. she may be suffering from mental healthish i use. she is described as 5'5",

weighing 145 pounds. if you have any information please call police. last night in san diego county amid a swarm of reporters, hannah anderson made her first public appearance since being rescued from her kidnapper. the 16-year-old was shielded from the press as she attended a fundraiser at a restaurant. proceeds went to help pay for the funerals of her mother and brother while hannah did not talk to reporters her father says she is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support. >> hannah sends her love. she is doing good day by day. and we'll just keep moving forward from here. >> now court documents show the alleged kidnapper acted like an uncle around the anderson kids and a friend of the parents for 20 years. san francisco transportation leaders will hear complaints from people who live in a neighborhood that

usable. the two pilots were trying to land on a shorter runway at the birmingham airport on wednesday when the plane crashed. the longer runway was closed for maintenance. investigators have not said if the runway lengths are a factor in the crash. the nation's domestic snooping program broke privacy rules every over stepped its legal bounds. internal audit that uncovered 2800 incidents. many involved unauthorized spying on americans or foreign intelligence targets in the u.s. improper activities ranged from failing to follow standard operating procedures, to typos on documents. there are new developments surrounding nsa leaker edward snowden. he's accused of down loading materials about u.s. and british ease dropping intelligence while working for dell last year. he left dell for a government contractor in march to specifically gain access to

more top secret files. in another development he e- mailed news outlets to distance himself from his father. saying his father does not speak for him. a marin county author and political activist traveled to norway this week to push for awarding the nobel peace prize to bradley manning. he collected more than 100,000 signatures endorsing manning for the peace prize. he says manning's actions help to shorten the u.s. military involvement in iraq. meantime bradley manning's sentencing hearing continues to today. he faces up to 90 years in prison for giving 700,000 classified documents to wikileaks. on wednesday manning apologied for -- apologized for his actions saying he was sorry he hurt his country.

cyclist who hit and killed a pedestrian was ordered to jail time. three years probation and 1,000 hours in community service. wee's son spoke at the hearing. he is asking to serve his community by assisting the elderly, building low income housing, or aiding victims of traumatic hit injuries. he told him not to squander away his second chance at becoming a good and compassionate person. >> i know the type of person my father was. he always taught me to give people a second chance. no matter what happens. >> he did not address the victim's family but his lawyer said he would be willing to serve community service in the way the victim's family requested. workers are preparing for that big implosion this weekend. the build willing be brought down at 9:00 tomorrow morning.

nearly 350 acres of the campus will be closed to the public starting tonight. it won't reopen until 6:00 a.m. monday morning. now the closure is to keep people safe. >> about half of that building the concrete is going to be crushed on site and used as a foundation for the new warren hall replacement building. >> 6,000 tons of steel will also be sold overseas. sizic sensors are being placed in the ground around the black plate to help with future research. the public is invited to watch the implosion from the k-mart parking lot at mission and harder and you can also watch that implosion live right here on ktvu channel 2. it's at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. we will live stream it on our website at ktvu.com. if the implosion is delayed past 10:00 we will bring it to you there online.

4:47 is the time. let's check in with sal. hopefully no problems as we start this friday morning. >> we are doing pretty well. we did have problems in the livermore valley when it came to a crash. we will talk about that in a moment. we want to look at interstate 880 in oakland and emeryville and oakland. you can see the traffic here is starting off well on some of the bay area's biggest freeways. if you are driving to the 880 freeway here near the coliseum, the traffic is moving well in both directions. we talked about livermore eastbound 580 there was a crash. not causing a huge backup. westbound 580 traffic looks good on the way to castro valley. now let's go to steve. well, we have a very distinct layer of warm air. sot fog has been coming down a little -- so the has been coming down a little bit. you can see about where it is. that is exactly what is

happening. we have that again today. the warm air settles down. some of the basis around 500 feet. a little bit of drizzle would not surprise me again. no reports yet. a foggy morning for some. kind of a muggy pattern. the lows are simply not cooling off. water temperatures are very, very warm. mainly 55-60. point rays is 53. i've seen a couple reports at 59 to 60. morning drizzle and mostly sunny and a few high clouds clipping us. not much has changed yesterday. delta breeze looks like it's a little less than yesterday. 60s on many of the temps. but most of the lows are way up. 21 is not bad. but everyone else is really kind of on the calm category. yesterday we had very gusty conditions. san jose mountain view calm. 66 in sacramento.

gate park. the boy was playing on a hill near a carousel when he disturbed the hornets nest. he was stung multiple times. he was rushed to the hospital but his injuries are not considered serious. the a german tourists lost her arm while swimming in hawaii. her friends say they knew something was wrong when they heard her screaming for help. a kayaker came to aid and helped her to shore. this is the fifth shark related incident off the shores of maui. researchers at the veterinary jet nettics lab studied cat hair found on a curtain wrapped around the body of a man in england. the results were sent to england where they matched the cat belonging to the neighbor's

time now is 4:53. two men convicted in the gang rape outside of a richmond dance has learned their fate. he was given 29 years to prison. jose was given 33 years to life in prison. the men were convicted of badly beating and sexually assaulting a young girl. she says how the incident has changed her life through a letter that was red through a victim advocate. >> i struggled and struggled and here i a three almost four years later still struggling. having nightmares, flash backs. >> last year two other men were given lighter sentences after agreeing to testify in the case. two more men are awaiting trial. many students in the bay area are returning to schools that have put new security measures in place following last year's deadly shooting at sandy hook elementary. they have installed new locks, gates, and added surveillance

cameras. in antioch they have highed a private security firm to patrol campuses and the san ramon valley school district has add the a new color coded badge for visitors. some freshman are already earning credit toward college degrees. those students are taking classes at solano community college. they are allowed to take up to two years of college classes that means they can transfer into a uc or state school as juniors. the district is picking up all the costs including college tuitions and books. ktvu.com has an extensive back to school system. and a slide show of ktvu anchors and reporters from our school days. checks are going out to people who donated money for road repairs in lafayette. the city spent $200,000 for a first round of repaving work on several roads that were in bad

shape. lafayette said it would take a second step if citizens would split the cost. the city received more than $23,000 this donations. lafayette agreed to refund that money after people living on the streets complained the roads were in worst shape after the work. unfortunately there is trouble for san francisco's new exploratorium. they are laying off 18% of its workers because of low production. directors original protected attendance of 17,000 people but the attendance has only been 4,000 people a day. the opening date is set but the bay bridge drama is far from over. let's take you out there live to the bridge this morning to answer the questions that still remain about the opening of the new bay bridge. also next more deadly violence on the streets of oakland. the timing of the recent
