francisco in the upper 50s. red flag warning for the mother bay right now. and this is -- to the north bay right now. and we have a chance for a few isolated thunderstorms. because we have this low pressure offshore and that has to move across the bay area and into tonight. we have to hold on to the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm. partly cloudy skies in the forecast model. there's still a chance that you can see early tomorrow morning little bit of activity here. so break it down for the coast. 8:00 this morning, low clouds out there and patchy fog this afternoon and lee to mid-60s -- low to mid-60s. partly sunny and breezy this afternoon and the temperatures down a good three to six degrees from yesterday's highs. and the warmest locations inland to reach the upper 80s to 90 out to fairfield and san francisco 66. coming up, we'll take a quick look at your five-day forecast. and sal has an update on traffic. good morning. we're looking at a commute that looks good if you are driving

almost anywhere in the bay area. it is nice and early and traffic is moving well into san francisco. no problems on the upper deck of the bay bridge. no problems on the lower deck of the bay bridge heading out to oakland from san francisco. and we're looking at oakland freeways. 880 north and southbound looks nice and westbound 585 traffic off to a good start. and if you're driving in the south by, 281 and 85 are doing very well. 4:31. back to the desk. developing news in the peninsula. a shooting victim is dead after being found slummed over in his car last night. the gunfire activated the city's shot spotter system. and they found the 19-year-old man in a car just after 10:00 p.m. and he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. detectives canvassed the neighborhood looking for witnesses. but so far no suspects or motives. it detect at least eight shots

fired. and we'll have a live report on the developing story within the next hour. >> and firefighters in the bay area remain on high alert this morning. we join us live with the story. >> reporter: good morning. we're near martinez along highway 4. you can see it's windy and the grass is dry. and that combined with lightning risk has put much of the bay area under a high fire danger. let me show you video from overnight of a grass fire that shut down highway 4 around 9:30 last night. the fire charred about three acres. a car fire sparked the grass fire and no reports of injuries and they are still working to determine what caused that car fire. and the speed at which the car fire turned into a grass fire

shows the high fire danger. in the latest statewide report, the agency said that the lightning sparked 40 new fires in a 24-hour period. there were 3400 stricks for the entire state of california. and the red flag warning for the bay never include the north bay areas and hills. and there's a risk of thunderstorms with dry lightning. live near martinez. a huge wildfire on the outskirts of yosemite of national park has doubled in size and doubling every hour. it forced the highway 120. you don't news crew took this dramatic video on the fire lines last night and the u.s. forest service said it surged to 15 square miles with zero percent containment and it burned at least two home and

air national guardsman from the bay area are helping on the fire lines at yosemite. they left the field to join the growing fire fighting effort. we have new video from the sit-in at san francisco city hall. 20 people were arrested and cited by the police. they were mostly students from city colleges san francisco. it began around 5:00 p.m. yesterday outside mayor ed lee's office door and they wanted him to stop the possible closure of city college. >> it's unclear why the mayor is not willing to meet with the students. so we decided we would wait hoping that the mayor would come and listen to us. >> group was charged with disturbing a public meeting and trespass. they were later released and mayor lee's office said that saving the school is one of his highest priorities.

killed by three teenagers that said they had nothing better to do. christopher lane was jogging and he ran by three teenagers. the oldest of the three said they were bored so they followed him in the car and shot him in the back. and he died in the hospital and thousands of miles away, his family reacted to the news. >> it's wrong. and we try to deal with at the time best we can. >> a 15-year-old and 16-year- old are being charged as adults with first-degree murder. the 17-year-old is being charged as an accessory to murder. australian prime minister said there are far too many guns and american streets. classes are to resume in georgia this morning where a 20- year-old man opened fire on campus. michael brandon hill slip into the school yesterday and held one staff member cap at this time. they say that he got into a shootout with the police before he surrendered. and children and teachers were evacuated and the police made an arrest and no one hurt.

two to 80 westbound and this is down to the mccar thursday. no major problems here and -- mccarthur. and the traffic is moving along pretty well getting into the city. from hayward to fremont, 880 southbound, that is off to a good start. 4:48 and now mark. good morning. off to a nice, quiet start. and low clouds and fog still in the bay. and a bit of a breeze out there and we have it concerns of the forms and the bulk of the activity, not much yet. we're in the 50s to 60s. wind speeds, we have a strong

wind out to fairfield, the usual spot and winds out of the southwest that is a sustained wind speed, 26 miles an hour easily topping 30 miles an hour. not much of a strong wind here and sfo, winds out of the west at six miles an hour. so the strongest wind around the delta this area of the low pressure is just offshore and 200 miles to the south and west. and with that, partly cloudy skies spinally -- especially tonight. the focus of the thunderstorm activity will be up in the northern portions of the state. temperatures do cool off, mainly 60s, 70s and 80s through the day. with still have the osability of lightning strikes and we have a red flag warning basically targeting the north bay and napa.

and we're showing you some low clouds up here. and there's a chance of rain in the north bay. and tomorrow a slight chance for a thunderstorm only up in the north bay. so we begin to scale back on the probabilities in the next couple days. and the fire danger remains elevated. around the rim of the bay, upper 60s to low 70s. the warmest inland 70s to 80. san francisco 66 and back to school this anytime livermore. the first day of school today and the temperature profile on track to reach the mid- to upper 80s. look ahead at your five-day forecast. a chance of an isolated shower and thunderstorm today mainly up in north bay and slight chance for tomorrow and we clear things up by friday and the weekend are typical fog and clouds. the cost for putting on events have not changed. the examiner reports that san francisco paid $482,000 to

u.s. marshals are now working the oakland police to sweep the streets clean of violent criminals. the joint operation has captured 25 high risk felons, four were wanted for homicide. the arrests were announced yesterday by u.s. attorney melinda hag. and she said that the level of violence in the streets should not be tolerated. last week alone three people were shot and one died. >> maybe if they put more patrol on foot, it might work out a lot better. keep us safer. but you're not going to stop it all. >> oakland police are promising a more focused effort to stop the violence. it's not clear how long the federal officers will be involved. san francisco police are looking for witnesses after a dog was shot with a pellet gun

and fell from a third story window. this is john and his dog fred ditch. freddie is in a pet hospital with injuries to his pelvis and hips being knocked out of place and the vet called to tell him that a pellet was in freddie's leg and now freddie is facing a long recovery and john is prepared to get him through. >> i'll carry him up and down the stairs and i'll do whatever i need to do because he deserved it. >> shooting happened as his apartment. san francisco police are warning being a new tactic by thieves to scam cell phone owners. the most recent scheme involve two people. one will swipe the phone from a victim and the second person will act as a good samaritan and chase the suspect down.
