neighbors made her row isk efforts to try to save people trapped in their burning trailer. claudine wong is live in san leandro. >> reporter: fire investigators have cleared the scene. the manager has given us access. this debris pile, they say, is whar was behind the only door to this trailer as rescuers were trying to get in. this is haunting. you can see just how hot this fire burned. all that's left of the home is a shell. the image ravaged by fire. two people were trapped inside despite desperate efforts by neighbors to help them get out. >> i took a crowbar, reached in

grabbed the handle and opened the door that way. >> reporter: that was the only door out. once open, he said he couldn't see anyone. inside one victim was conscious and talking and asking for help. >> i said, are you okay? i don't know who she is. she said no, i'm not! , you know, no, i'm not! so my son came out and neighbors came out. we were breaking the windows. it was just a little bit of sploek and of smoke and it went up into a big fire. >> reporter: once the fire got on scene, the trailer was engulfed in flames. crews had it out in a minute. >> they had a lot of other debris, shall we say in the residence as well, it looked like shelfing materials fell down and collapsed on the person. the second occupant and, also trap under a large pile of debris. >> reporter: neighbors have

come out to say prayers and say their goodbyes. firefighters say it may be days before we know a cause. we should mention there's been some concern about the fire response. firefighters say they were here four minutes after the first call for help. sometimes what happens in these chaotic situations, a lot of people think someone calls when in reality no one else does. that does delay the response. no one is ever alerted. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. just a short time ago, san jose police announced the arrests of two more suspects in the killing of a 19-year-old woman. three men are suspects in the murder of kimberly chico. the san jose state student was killed august 3rd when struck by a stray bullet. last month, officers arrested 23-year-old johnny l:zano and then arrested jessty grant and caris war en. police say the victim was not

the intended target but was just driving by during this drive-by. the trial continues in the trial of joseph naso. brian flores was in court this morning as the 79-year-old explained why he should not face the death penalty. now brian joins us live in san rafael. >> reporter: good afternoon. they are on a lunch recess right now. they did not want to speak to cameras this morning. i was in the courtroom as propers laid out -- prosecutors laid out the death penalty. naso says he still wants to live. cameras were not aloud -- not allowed in the courtroom. this is file video. the jury found joseph naso guilty for killing four women. prosecutors hoping the same jury that convicted him will also give him the death penalty. today in court, prosecutor dorie ahana asked jurors does the defendant deserve a punishment, anything less than

what he gave his victims? meantime, naso began what is only expected to be a lengthy argument. he questioned the dna evidence that was used to convict him, saying it was circumstantial. he also specifically mentioned that he did not kill roxanne rogash in 1987. he said he only had a sexual relation relationship with her. he said he didn't want the death penalty and wants to continue to live and make friends and help people. prosecutors also trying to tie in another killing to emphasize that joseph naso should receive the death penalty. the penalty phase expected to continue on this afternoon. live in san rafael, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. uc berkeley police are searching for a man accused of raping a woman at gunpoint. the assault happened at people's park near telegraph avenue on sunday night. according to report, the woman was not a student at the university. the suspect is described as a filipino man in his early 30s.

and in el cerrito, people are searching for a man who lifted the dress of a blind woman. the woman was walking near liberty street and fairmont avenue around 4:20 saturday afternoon. police say the woman refused sexual advances and that's when heist willed the back of her -- that's when he lifted the back of her skirt. a man assaulted and elderly individual this morning in front of his home at 22nd avenue and hamilton street. we just spoke to the victim, police say he was beaten and robbed. police spotted the mercedes a few minutes after the robbery and followed him in a slow- speed pursuit. he crashed the car at 69th and flora. >> the victim was found beaten but okay otherwise with his property taken from him. >> the victim was taken to --

to the hospital where he was treated for moderate injuries from the beating. developing news, the obama administration continues to press for support both at home and abroad for a military strike on syria. for a second day, president obama's top versers attended both open and closed congressional hearing. they are laying out the case for congress to approve an attack. the president is in sweden for three days of meetings. there, he said going to congress was not a symbolic or empty gesture. >> i think it's very important that congress say that we mean what we say, and i think we will be stronger as a country in our response if the president and congress does it together. >> from there, he travels to russia for the g-20 meeting. vladimir putin has warned

against u.s. actions without united nations' approval. a fight at a houston school left one boy dead and three others injured. the confrontation happened at spring high school as school was getting underway this morning. police say it began as a verbal disagreement near the cafeteria and escalated and knives were pulled out. the 17-year-old died. another teen was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. two others suffered minor injuries. >> we have more confirmed victims. one of the four is deceased. so our prayers and condolences go to that family. but we are handling the investigation to get this understood and resolved. >> houston police say they are interviewing three persons of interest. this is video of two teens being detained. officers say the fight may have

been gang-related. uc berkeley police are investigating the third hate- related incident in four weeks in the most recent incident, a swastika was scratched into a door on the clark kerr campus according to report. a police crime alert said the vandalism happened sunday morning inside building 7. last week, homophobic remarks were found on a flier in a restroom in building 3. on august 14th, a custodian found a racial epithet on a chalkboard in we willer hall -- in wheeler hall. this is the toll plaza. you see on the left side of your screen, it doesn't look too bad right now. just a little bit of backup there with the cash lanes. yesterday even at this hour, there were traffic backups in the area. as many drivers went out of their way to use the new span. taking a look at the realtime traffic map on ktvu.com. you can see a little bit of red there and some yellow in the

santa clara county is having a real problem with west nile virus. tonight, fogging to prevent the disease is happening in two cities making it the most times the county has ever had to fog this season. new at noon, janine de la vega joins us live from one of the neighborhoods that will be sprayed tonight. good afternoon, janine. >> reporter: good afternoon, tori. we just received word that county vector control is on their way to pick up another dead bird that they believe is infected with the west nile virus. in this particular area of northeast san jose where we're at there's been a high number of west nile cases. county officials have set 4,000 mosquito traps throughout the county but for some reason, a big area for flareups of the virus has been in northeast san jose where that's never happened before. tonight, they will be fogging in milpitas and northeast san jose to control the virus and prevent it from spreading to

humans. tonight's treatment brings the number of times it has had to gog this season to ten. vector control has not seen it like this since 2010. >> we're looking at the pools and standing water. the virus is not driven so much by the numbers of mosquitoes, however, as by the numbers of birds that are bitten. the virus is transmitted by mosquito bites and causes mild to severe flu-like symptoms. so far, 55 birds have tested positive for the disease. vector control will have more fogging tonight. the county will use its own colony of mosquitoes tof see how to prevent the further spread of west nile. the fogging goes until until 2:00 a.m. -- until 2:00 a.m.

residents who live here have already been notified. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. a mural was unveiled today in honor of the olympic sailor who died while training for the america's cup. andrew bart simpson was a member of team artemis. he drowned. 18 students from the keakd of art san francisco painted the mural which measures 116 feet wide and 55 height fee. the finals begin on saturday but oracle will start at a disadvantage. an international jury sanctioned the team for making modifications in their smaller boats used in previous competitions. oracle must win 11 races while the challenger, new zealand, needs only nine. the team was fined $250,000 and some members are banned.

oracle says they disagree with this but they will make the necessary adjustments. oakland police have released a sketch of a suspected burglar. police say this is one of two men who posed as a pg&e worker and broke into a home in oakland. an oakland police spokewoman described how the scam works. >> they are burglarizing a home while they have the res residents or the -- have the resident or the homeowner in the backyard to check for easements or whatever excuse they are using. >> the description, a suspect between 35, 45, 180 pounds with short, dark hair. he asked an elderly couple for access to their back property to check something out. while the homeowners were outside, another man stole jewelry and cash from inside

the house. the cities of palo alto and east palo alto are trying to work out parking problems. often east palo alto crosses into palo alto and park along the residential streets there. people in palo alto say that creates problem. >> every morning, trash, every morning cars blocking fire hydrants and very often driveways. and like i said, you know, speeding down the street. >> the mayor of east palo alto has apologized to the mayor of palo alto follow the problem. the city council is working on creating more parking. there's been parking banned overnight. well, those clouds beginning to clear out of the bay area. in fact, a lot of sunshine out there, mild to warm pattern remains in place.

here's our camera this wednesday afternoon. a little bit of a breeze here. not too much activity with the tree branch in the right portion of your screen. temperatures, it will be nice. nothing to too extremely -- too extremely hot out there. we've been tracking fog. right now, there's still some patchy fog near parts of the shoreline. there's half moon bay closer to pacifica. even san francisco's ocean beach noticing some clearing here with maybe some patches leftover. you get the idea. current temperatures are in the 60s in san francisco, 65 degrees. san jose right now, 75 a lot of 70s inland out towards fairfield and walnut creek and livermore and santa rosa, napa, close to 50 degrees even the upper 40s already back up into the mid- to upper 70s. already, a nice recovery. forecast headlines for today will continue to have clearing skies. it will be mild and warm. for tonight, partly cloudy skies. the fog regroups coast side.

and then a warming trend for the weekend. 90s expected inland. we're talking about mid- to upper 90s. this area of low pressure is camped up to the north and west and is capping our temperatures for today and tomorrow. it will be on the move. as it does, high pressure returns. but not for today. as you can see here, mostly sunny skies. as the high moves in, the low moves. we'll have a warming trend. mostly sunny skies. 70s for the coast. 80s in the bay. 90s inland for the weekend. the warming trend really kicks in. begins on friday with these northerly winds in place. that will bump up the fire danger. this time of year when you get a pattern like this we'll have to keep an eye on the fire danger. showing you more sunshine later on today, maybe a patch of fog and then the fog regroups. once again, clearing skies for your thursday afternoon.

when the august jobs report is released. the dow is currently up 98. the nasdaq is up 34. and s&p up 12. samsung has officially beat apple to the marketplace with a new smart watch. the south korean company unveiled the new galaxy gear smart watch at an event in berlin today. this is new video of the watch. it will come in five colors with a camera and will pair with your phone so you can make phone calls and use apps without pulling your phone out of your purse or pocket. they also introduced the smartphone or phablet. they hit stores on the 25th. chobani is pulling some yogurt off their shelves. of the problem may come from mold commonly found in dairy products. but emphasizes this is not a recall or a health risk. they are not saying how many

flavors or how many cups of yogurts are involved but theicks perrations are between september 11th and october 6th. california is one of 22 states that meet all of the standards for caring for children after a disaster. that's according to a new report by the organization, save the children. it stepped a lists of four criteria after hurricane katrina that includes evacuation plans, plans for reuniting plans with their families and plans to care for children with special needs. only four states did not meet any of the criteria. idaho, iowa, kansas and michigan. the majority of california parts say they strongly support standardized testing. 66% of parents think students should be tested in each grade level. 43% say teachers should be evaluated based on their test results. and 80% of parents say the
