'ever it is bringing rain in seattle and portland. livermore 56. 52 half-moon bay. so there is a little chair to the morning air. fords that means sunshine and warmer weather. high pressure is really not large and in charge. a much, much lighter breeze. ice 70s and 80s and low 90s. here is sal. steve, good morning. we are looking at traffic here that is moving along very nicely if you are driving to the bay bridge in some of those lanes it is light. some of the middle lanes it's slow. in fact, they may start turning on the metering lights soon if they haven't already here. and it will make for a bigger backup. still a ten minute wait. on the bridge itself it's getting crowded. the giants play this weekend.

they have a couple home games. 49ers play. and if you are driving on highway 4 traffic at 18 miles an hour average speed here. there are no major problems. in fact, my map graphic is not working. there are no major problems on the freeways. let's go back to the desk. we begin with the breaking news out of martinez. firefighters remain on the scene. a huge fire thristed claudine wong you just there was concern when you is v a the baa fatale job that the man that was there

at the time talked to deputies before he left and then he took off. the woman inside also got out and now at a friend's house nearby hopefully getting some sleep. the next people you see standing in front of the building now. owners that apparently saw the fire on tv. and came down to check out the damage. let me show you what the fire looked like. when firefighters got here it was around 3:15 this morning. the video you are looking at sent in by a viewer. as you can tell those frames were really going. about three quarters of the structure that is described as a used car lot. we talked to a neighbor about what he saw and heard. >> i heard about six big pops. it sounded like somebody was dropping metal all over the place. >> when you came out what did

you see? flips about it was just bomb bomb bomb boom boom. . they shut them down and they were able to get mostest fire out. they will be out here for a couple more hours. still going through all of that debris. making sure the hot spots out r out. they are -- a fire at a recycling plant in stockton sending smoke across two freeways. that fire is at a recycling plant along filbert street near highways 44 and 99. it started at about midnight.

if time -- ktvu channel 2 news janine de la vega is joining us live from the scene that unfolded in front of an elementary school. janine. >> reporter: yes, the water has been shut off here at terrell elementary school on pearl avenue. a car crashed into that water main you see right there. and water went spraying into the area. people have been brought in to nix it -- police say this ever at around 3:00 a.m. when clipped a the driver of the transfort was anywhered but were inside the scene.

the man was found injured in the bushes laying down. >> there is suspicion there could be alcohol involved. but we are not sure. >> reporter: police are investigating whether to call this accident a hit and run because they are trying to determine who the driver was enif that person was the one that stayed at the ten if a felts manager with a san ho school will be open this morning. they plan on bringing porta- potties to the school. they are estimating the damage done to the water main will take about five to six hours ting -- a woman was killed while sun

he recommends to make payment over the phone to make a payment. another phone scam is targeting people living in palo alto. someone is calling people and saying their utilities bill is overdue. the person threatening to shut off the victims power if they don't pay by credit card over the phone. the city of palo alto utilities department says if you get a similar call hang up and call their customer service line. there is new information about the bart labor dispute. but management decided to back off. meantime bart and unions still appear far apart during this mid way point. >> if the two sides are not really interested in coming together, the mediator can't tell us what proposals to put across the table. the two sides are not willing

rafael where it crashed and the suspect was arrested. police in los angeles area are investigating a major scandal at four of the region's most financially troubled schools. they are charged with helping steal thousands of textbooks for a book buyer and selling them back to the schools. investigators say a long beach businessman recruited the workers to take thousands of books from the schools in los angeles, uncle wood, and bell flower. time 16:18. two men from the bay area are in new orleans for the just for men national beard and mustache championships. napa resident brian whirly pictured there earned a third place medal last year in las vegas. the teacher has been growing facial hair for almost two years and nearly reached 16 inches.

cooler lows for anyone here. 15:. looks like down toward parts of the san mateo coast. but still not filling in on most of it. i don't think it has much of a chance today. the low is is still up in the pacific northwest. it is ejecting out. 49 tahoe. 52 ukiah. a little cool there. 73 down in san diego. high pressure from the pacific is beginning to build in. that gives us more of a northerly breeze. it looks good if there is fog there i don't think it will last too long. sinking air will squash it. 70s and 80s and 90s. so inland temps a lot of low 90s. around the bay 80s. closer to the coast 60s and 70s. i did go 78 in san francisco.

i think things look pretty good here for awhile. for those on the coast i know everyone is cig where does our summer start? well it's september. it looks cooler on tuesday. there is a new report jc penny does not want to be in business with martha stewart. they are dumping the brand because of poor sales. jc penny has been locked in a long legal battle with macy's over a right to sell stewart's cook ware and linens. there are plans to attract a major international tour to san francisco's ferry plaza. they report this morning a company has been hired to market the waterfront building behind the ferry building. the port of san francisco owns that building and it is encouraging the company that holds the lease to get a world class restaurant for that location. the marketing company says a big name restaurant could bring in $20 million a year to the stay. we want to follow breaking

news coming out of southern california. an explosion rocked a neighborhood just after 4:00 this morning. you can see these are live pictures from that area. you can see there are firefighters battling flames there. at lest one house was detroyed. a california firefights.

a southern california hospital and a doctor that works there is being sued by a patient. veronica valdez works at thorns medical center. when she needed surgery on her finger she decided to have it at the hospital. the anesthesiologist put stickers on her face to look like a mustache and tear drops. the doctor says it was only a joke. >> there is really no such thing as a joke in the operating room played on someone that is dependent upon the people in the operating room to keep them alive.

in the center of the construction was a living space. the man was renting that space for about a year. he was here at the same of the fire and so was a woman now let's take a look at the fear when firefighters got here they say three quarters of the structure was already burning. they had it under control at 4:15 but couldn't get close because of down power lines. we talked to the battalion chief about the challenges they face. >> we were behind highwayed a

away. ktvu janine de la vega is joining us live from the scene to tell us they have been found and what is happening at the school. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the school facilities manager here at terrell elementary school is working to fix this broken water main. you can see here they exposed pipe and cage right next to it which is crumpled because a car slammed into it. school will open up in a couple hours. police say some of the people that are inside the car that crashed into this tried to get away. but they have been found. police say this car transporter was traveling southbound on pearl avenue at 3:00 a.m. when it clipped a lincoln town car. that lincoln town car crash into the water main at the school. the driver of the transporter was uninjured. a man and woman that were with him ran away. the man was found injured. lying in the bushes and the woman was found in a neighborhood across the street.

all three were taken to the hospital. the fire department shut off the water to the school and is now -- and now the school district is working to fix the damage done. >> probably take five to six hours to get the thing fixed. until then we will have to get a bunch of porta-potties out here and supply the school with water. >> reporter: san jose unified is working to bring in those porta-potties so the school can open today. they are wondering whether to call this accident a hit or run. they are trying to determine who the driver was. officers suspect they may be under the influence of alcohol. and we'll continue to sort of monitor the situation out here to see when the water can be turned back on because school is supposed to begin at 8:00 a.m.. reporting live from san jose janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news.

>> thank you. a man suspected of killing a schoolyard monitor in san jose is scheduled to be in court today and charged with homicide. law enforcement sources say the suspect is a 43-year-old man named oscar. they did not say who was relationship was to the victim. she was found dead inside her mini van on tuesday and her family is planning her funeral. >> we are trying to be strong everywhere we go. and we start thinking about it. it tears us apart. >> fig row a worked at an elementary school. san francisco police chief is warning that the city risk more crimes to dodge a request from the federal government. they asked cities to jail undocumented workers that could

the firer the the an illegal damp camp. the fire has burned more than 246,000 acres and now 80% contained. happening today contra costa county launches a new pilot program that is aimed at easing the burden of firefighters while still protecting the community. fire crews took on more responsibility due to budget cuts and station closures. large fire trucks currently respond to all medical calls but for the next 90 days some of the low level calls will be handled by a two person medical team. >> i would say it could run anywhere from 8-15 calls because it will be serving such a large area. so it will be busy.

>> the medical squad will operate out of a -- the department is testing the idea to free up firefighters so that they can focus during the height of the fire season. the medical squad will cost the fire district about $200,000. time is 6:40. and there has been an explosion in southern california. an update on the breaking story from river side county where part of a neighborhood was wiped out. we are live in san francisco where neighbors are outraged over a city worker being accused of hit and run. we'll tell you more about the mother sunbathing with her baby. right now the drive in contra costa county looks pretty good. we have a live look at highway 24 and that is off to a good start. the weather is look pretty good if you like sunshine and warm to hot conditions. although we have a little bit of fog on the coast. we'll sort it all out for you and have the forecasted highs for friday.

welcome back. ktvu channel 2 morning news. we want to update you on the breaking news coming out southern california where an explosion rocked a neighborhood in river side county. just after 4:00. take a look at the live pictures. at least one house was destroyed and several others were burned. but so far luckily there were

no injuries. firefighters believe the house that was leveled was unoccupied at the time. there is no word on what could have touched off such a large explosion. we will be following that throughout the morning. back here in san francisco a worker faces a felony hit and run charge after his maintenance truck hit and struck a woman sunbathing with their child. tara moriarty joins us live where neighbors are outraged. >> reporter: they tell us that truck driver endured a tragedy of his own. his daughter had died. thousand he is facing felony hit and run charges. if you take a look behind me here i don't know if you can tell, these are the tire tracks here on the grass. and this is where it appears that he took off after striking the woman up where the flowers are. that is where the woman had been sunbathing with her baby and dog. the 35-year-old woman was lying on a blanket in holly park enjoying the sun on a beautiful san francisco day when somehow a city worker driving a pickup truck hit her and then took

off. luckily the baby was not hurt. this all happened just before 2:30 yesterday afternoon. crews rushed the woman to san francisco general hospital where she later died. they want to know why a city worker was driving on the grassy area that often filled with people and pets. >> it's sad. it shakes you up. i bring my son up here in this park and just to know that park and recreation is reckless and not paying attention. you have to pay attention to see who is around you. >> reporter: one of our own cameramen found the maintenance truck. a spokes mg woman dethe worker. a reck ace and park the victim calling a it a devastating day for all. david campos went with

investigators as they knocked on doors looking for any surveillance video yesterday. they will be looking at what the rules and guidelines are for park vehicles. 44 said we simply can't have something. anything like this happening again. live from san francisco i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. a muni driver stabbed by one of his passengers is recovering this morning. the attack happened wednesday night on the 31 ball bow a bus in the tenderloin. the suspects 47-year-old david stabbed the driver in the leg as he was being kicked off the bus. officers arrested choy on suspicion of a deadly weapon. scare for passengers at houston's airport. last night several people saw a plane take off with its cargo door open. officials say an i should cater light came on right after the plane took off. it was bound for dallas. the captain landed the plane, the door was checked and no one was hurt.

in the -- cooler like fall is in the air. there is a little bit of fog out there. 50s. much cooler lows than we saw earlier this week. today we are seeing more 50s. under clear skies and some patchy fog. mainly around the marin coast and san mateo coast. seattle dealing with clouds and rain. so any travel plans there and down toward st. lucas. 40s up in the mountains. 55 sacramento. so expect for patchy fog it will be warmer today. there is hardly any breeze. that sinking air will wipe it out. 70s and 80s and low 90s. we will go above average on the temps. a lot of low 90s and then 60s and 70s and 88 for santa cruz. warm to hot over the weekend. does look cooler by tuesday.

don't risk a u.s. default over paying bills we have already racked up. i'm determined that the world has confidence and the full faith and credit of the united states. and in emerging markets imparticular there is a recognition a strong u.s. economy is good for their economies too. yet we came to st. petersburg mindful of the challenges that remain. as it emerges from recession, europe has an opportunity to focus on boosting demand and reducing unemployment. as well as making some of the structural changes that can increase long-term growth. growth in emerging economies has slowed. so we need to make sure that we are working with them in managing this process. and i'm pleased over the past two days we have reached a consensus on how to proceed. we have agreed our focus needs to be on creating jobs and

growth that put people back to work. we agreed on ways to encourage the investments and infrastructure that keep economies competitive. missions agreed to continue pursuing financial reforms and to address tax evasion and tax avoidance which under minds budget and shoplifts the tax burden to other taxpayers. we are moving ahead with our development agenda with focus on food security and combating corruption. i'm pleased that the g-20 nations agreed to make faster progress on phasing down greenhouse gases a priority. that is an important step in our fight against climate change. during my trip we also continued our efforts to create two trade initiatives. and i believe if we continue to move forward on all the fronts that i've described, we can keep the global economy going and keep creating jobs for our people. of course, even as we focus on

our shared prosperity, and although the primary task of the g-20 is to focus on our joint efforts to boost the global economy. we did also discuss a grave threat to our shared security. and that is the syrian regimes use of chemical weapons. and what i've been emphasizing and we will continue to stress is that the assad regimes brazen use of chemical weapons isn't just a syrian tragedy, it's a threat to global peace and security. syria's escalating use of chemical weapons threatens its neighbors. turkey, jordan, lebanon, iraq, israel. it threatens to further destabilize the middle east. it increases the risk these weapons will fall into the hands of terrorists groups. but more broadly it threatens to unravel the international norm against chemical weapons embraced by 189 nations and

those nations represent 98% of the world's people. failing to respond to this breech of this international norm would send a signal to rogue nations. terrorist organizations that they can develop and use weapons of mass destruction and not pay a consequence. and that is not the world we want to live in. this is why nations around the world have condemned syria for this attack and called for action. i've been encouraged by discussions with my fellly leaders this week. there is a growing recognition that the world cannot stand idlely by. they have come together to say the international norm against the use of chemical weapons must be upheld and the assad regime used these weapons on their own people. and as a consequence there needs to be a strong response. they have said the assad regime
