after the utility admitted to core recordkeeping. >> complete bay area news coverage starts right now, this ktvu channel 2 news at noon. >> good afternoon, i am tori campbell, just over an hour ago san francisco police released the name of the city employee suspected of hitting and killing a mother at a local park. ktvu's brian flores is live in san francisco with new details about the suspect and the victim. >> reporter: yeah, that information came out an hour ago, that identified the driver as thomas berrios sky, held at jail on 315,000 dollars bail and the d.a.'s office expects the case by monday. in the meantime behind me several people continue to look at this makeshift memorial stop by, several flowers died her 82 the victim died when she was enjoying a nice day here.

the victim was identified as 35- year-old kristine van amer of daily city, killed by a san francisco rec and park vehicle yesterday afternoon. she was sitting on the grassy field with her baby here in hollie park here when the truck -- the driver hit her. luckily not injuring the baby. she was then taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died. and the park and rec driver took off only to be detained by police a short time later. we are learning more about the victim, she was the director of a company which specializes in life coaching use techniques from the east and west, we did stop by the company this morning. they did not want to speak on camera but they say they may release a statement later. we did notice they were consoling each other today. we did speaks to neighbors here simply looking for answers. >> we had to stop them from driving fast through here all the time and if you go around you can see where they have driven off the path on to the grass and they seem to drive wherever where instead of walking. >> now, this remains an active police investigation, we have

also tried contacting san francisco rec and park on this. they did release a statement earlier on this expressing their devastation on what happened, saying their thoughts are with the victim's family. we were able to catch supervisor david campos and he says he has expressed his concern over what happened to the rec and park department. >> what he said to me is they want to be transparent about what happened and take responsibility where appropriate. they do want to work with us to make sure that we get the information out to the public, not only about what happened here but also about the rules and regulations that govern the conduct of these trucks. >> now campos says he wants to learn more on what happened so that something like that does not happen again. back out her life as you can see many people upset about this especially on the neighborhood, especially pause the mother was a young mother, on the company website she says

her biggest accomplishment is teacher and mother to her daughter, born in october of last year. san francisco, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> we have new video and information about an early morning fire that destroyed a business and left two people looking for a place to live. claudine wong joins us live from the scene with more on how this fire started in martinez and the damage left behind. claudine. >> reporter: tory, we want to give you a look at that damage because it is extensive, that vacant office that is a that is left. you have some of the 8 cars gutted by the flames. on the other side was also office space, not much left and then in the back you have the one bedroom apartment where investigators say this fire started and new at noon we do have new video of just how big this fire got. this is what firefighters found when they arrived on scene just after 3:15 a.m.

>> i heard about six big pops you know bangs, it sounded like someone was dropping metal all over the place. >> then when you came out what did you see? >> it was flames i don't know what, about 30 feet in the air, 40 at least, the plus was engulfed. >> this is what it looked like one year ago when he bought it and found out about it when he turned on ktvu this morning. >> shocked, watching tv and seeing your building burning down. >> as day broke more answers came from the couple who lived in the building's 1 bedroom apartment, ray says they had been cooking potatoes in a pot shortly before he went out for a walk. >> i was asleep on the couch and i woke up i think because i smelled something burning probably and i didn't know where he was because i had been asleep so i was calling his name. >> she got out safely and later found ray but the fire spread. >> it is all wood. there were many vehicles within the building, the vehicles have flammable liquids and plastics and that can cause fire to

first came from station 14 more than a mile away. firefighters say that did make response time longer and the firefight harder. >> anytime you have got a fire minutes count and these fires continue to grow expoentally as time goes on and that would have prevenlted it from being bigger. >> it was fortunate they made it out safely on their own so no rescues were needed they said. contra costa county launched a new program today aimed at easing the burden on firefighters while still protecting the community, due to budget cuts and other things they have been taking on more responsibility including those but starting today for the next 90 days low priority emergency calls will be handled by a two person medical team. >> i would say it could run anywhere from 8 to 15 calls because it is going to be serving such a large area, so it will be busy. >> the medical squad will operate out of a fire station

in downtown walnut creek and it will cost the fire district about 200,000 dollars. a san francisco husband and wife nicknamed the landlords from hell are set to be sentenced this afternoon. kip and nicole macy are expected to get four years and four months in state prison after pleading guilty to several charges. prosecutors say the couple tried to drive tenants out of a building so they could turn it into condos, that included sending threatening letters glueing door locks and sawing floorboards, they jumped bail and left the country. they are considering fines against them for faulty recordkeeping. two administrative law judges are holding hearings in san

francisco looking at fines of 50,000 dollars apiece for 5 violation sincere, the record keeping violation involves pipelines that ruptured in san bruno, that led to that fire, they are still considering a fine of up to 2 million for that. the new center is up and reasoning. the 38 million dollar facility went on-line last week at bishop branch office park in san ramon, workers there will monitor 6700 miles of distribution lines plus the 42,000 miles of small pipes that deliver natural gas to homes and businesses. the center's technology gives engineers realtime information about all of those lines. water service has been restored at an elementary school in the south bay after a car crashed into the water main there. the people who may have caused the crash tried to run from the scene. ktvu's janine de la vega tells

us how the police caught up to them and how the school scrambled to open. >> workers broke up concrete in front of the school as children arrived for classes this morning. the school district had alerted the parents hours earlier by phone there was no running water at the school. >> we are going to make sure the students have the things they need, restroom facilities, water, hand wash stations. >> water was shut off at the school after this lincoln town car slammed into the water main breaking the pipes, police say at 3:00 a.m. this car transporter traveling southbound on pearl avenue made a left hand turn and clepped the lincoln next to it. three people were inside the town car, 1 person remained with the car, one person went interest the neighborhood her to the east and 1 person went into the school, we found the two people that had fled. >> we captured video of one of the men who appeared to be hiding in front of the bushes in the school, lying on the ground injured, that man and two others were taken to the

more people are being allowed back into the area in and around yosemite national park even as the rim fire continues to bush nearby. state route 120 from groveland into yosemite is set to re-open this hour, however car fire stays because of continued fire activity several roads off the

highway will remain closed. evacuation orders are also still in effect in many areas. the rim fire has now burned over 246, 000 acres and 80% contained, cal fire is investigating a suspicious fire where a dog is credited with alerting a family inside a burning home. the fire started after 5:00 this morning at the house in the plaster county town of sheridan, residents say they were awakened by their barking chihuahua and ran out the back door, firefighters say it began on the porch and they believe it may have been intentionally set. >> the residents feel it may have been intentionally set by someone they have a dispute with, they are not sure, we are looking into that possibility, it is under investigation. >> a neighbor says they heard a bang and saw a car speeding away after a fire started.

>> the pack tiny teen who survived an assassination attempt has been awarded the children's peace prize for her work, 16-year-old malala yousafzai, received the prize in the netherlands today and said she accepted it in the name of children all over the world trying to go to school. she was 15 when taliban forces attacked her and two of her friends on their way home from school in pakistan. the pal tan government has approved the complex and ambitious attempt to right the ship. it capsized and ran aground, killing 32 people, the civil protection agency said today the operation will be carried out later this morning depending on the seas, if the operation is successfully crews will tow the vessel to a port to be dismantled, the manslaughter trial for the captain resumes september 23rd.

u.s. stocks are still up in volatile trading after job market data removed some uncertainty about the fed's economic stimulus policy and after russian president putin said he would maintain his long- standing support for syria, even if the west were to attack. a live look at the big board the dow is up 22, the nasdaq up eight, s&p up four. the unemployment rate is at its lowest in nearly 5 years and dropped to 7.3% last month, according to the labor department numbers released this morning, down from 7.4, but the labor department says it fell because more people stopped looking for work and are no longer counted as unemployed. employers added 169,000 jobs in august and much fewer in july than previously thought. 104, 000 compared to the
