will start off a little higher but then get dry. we should pick up more of a westerly breeze. there is a north, northwest at 78 degrees. humidity 37%. we would like to see that go down. the wind is south but now it's more westerly, northwest. going 64 around 8:00 and then we'll go 98. anywhere between 95 and also 100 degrees. we will see about the same as yesterday. there is fog on the coast. very warm air has squashed that fog. it's making a little surge over the bay but we will keep an eye on that. so maybe sense fog. 50s and 60s and 70s. antioch 71. santa rosa 52. and some tropical clouds down to the south. we will get a big cool down starting tomorrow. not today. today temperatures will be all over the place. anywhere from 60s to 100 degrees. here is sal. steve, good morning. we are off to a decent start.

looking at the bay bridge. right now it's light coming across into san francisco there is a new span we can see. there are no major problems at the toll plaza. it is light. westbound traffic looks good. also the morning commute is moving along nicely if you are driving into livermore valley. driving through here to castro valley it has been nice. and then when we look at the east bay in general, 880 and 238 are doing well. let's go back to the desk. we begin with developing news from the east bay. this morning that huge wild fire continues to burn. it started yesterday afternoon at morgan territory and marsh creek roads. just outside of clayton. the fire has burned at least 800 acres. it's only 10% contained at this point. alex savidge begins and tells us more help is on the way. >> reporter: there is more help

coming later today. that is the update i got. 15 strike is coming in today. i want to show you the scene behind me. it's pretty dramatic. as we push in here. we are on marsh creek road. just outside of clayton. as you look up here, yoko see it is -- you can see it is on fire. the fire is still growing. the latest estimate i just got the flames have burned through about 1,000 acres. the fire is basically out of control at this point with just 10% containment. it broke out at 1:45 yesterday afternoon and throughout the day there were helicopters and air tankers making drops on this fire. trying to slow the flames that are burning through dry brush and being pushed along yesterday by very gusty winds.

evacuation orders -- evacuations were ordered in this area as this fire did threaten some homes and ranches. many people left the area with their animals. no buildings have been lost so far. but the hot, dry conditions means this fire remains a threat. >> there is deep canyons that are very inaccessible and dangerous. we are taking precautions to make sure we don't put people in harms way. what we are doing is creating our own control lines. building control lines and bringing the fire woman firing operations up -- fire with firing operations up to the fire. >> reporter: it's too early to guess how this fire may have started. initially 250 firefighters were called in. but another 100 so firefighters

will be joining this effort. there will be a base camp set up near dublin. that means this fire could take several days to get under control. let's bring you out to a live shot. you can probably see there from the glow there are power lines that appear to be threatened by the flames. it's unclear if they have been impacted. but we will work to find out if the power lines will be effected by this fire. later on today the help that will coming here will be the air attack. that will be at 2:00 this -- that will be here at 8:00 this morning. live this morning near clayton alex savidge. >> i want to show you more of the pictures being sent to us by our viewers. these were taken yesterday

afternoon. shortly after the fire first began. some of them there is a helicopter grabbing water to drop on the fire. since the fire began people have been sending pictures and calling us to report what we have seen in areas all around the flames. on our website ktvu.com we have a slide show of the viewer foe koas we have received. you can find it on our home page under the images tab. as alex mentioned the huge fire on mt. diablo has led to mandatory evacuations. just before midnight they went out to people living in some two dozen homes. hours earlier people living on the oak dale lane area and curry point were also ordered to pack up and move out. local homeowners has seen many like this. >> i saw it start. watch it move toward us. >> what did you think?

>> the wild fire caused concern way beyond the evacuation zone. people as far away from vacaville and tracy. even people in candle stick park could see the smoke. more details on the evacuation. the official evacuation center is the clayton community library. evacuees with horses can go to heather farms park in walnut creek. or the contra costa county fairgrounds in antioch. there is slow traffic in sonoma traffic after a 40-acre fire there. it was first reported yesterday afternoon on the shoulder of highway 121 north of eighth street. that is is just south of downtown sonoma. they believe that fire may have started by sparks that came from a tow truck. the fire spread to a nearby palette factory. causing a lot of problems there. at least six structures including several rv's were destroyed. right now the chp is slowly

moving traffic on highway 12. new this morning 14 people are hurt after a plane skidded off the runway at bangkok. they suffered a glitch in its wheel base. the plane landed with its nose down. passengers evacuated on emergency slides. the landing comes two weeks after a plane encountered severe turbulence in hong kong injuring 20 passengers. at least two people are dead after an explosion near a school in china. it happened in a city in southern china that is popular with tourists. a man on a motorcycle road past the school. but they are not clear if he is connected. 18 other people are hurt. nine of them children. 4:37. san jose state university police are investigating the city's third homicide of the weekend.

a man was found dead in a parked car near the campus tennis courts on humble street yesterday morning. police have not released any information about the victim or cause of death. they say it's unclear if the man died where he was or somewhere else in the city. on saturday night a woman was stabbed to death at a home on dakota drive. on friday a 46-year-old man was shot. we are learning more about a deadly shooting in west berkeley. they found a man that had been shot just before 6:00 last night. that man was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. the berkeley blog reports the man was visiting friends before the shooting and as a graduate of berkeley high at least one person has been -- this will be the first time that the two

sides will meet. both sides still disagree on pay and benefits. the cooling off period ends october 10th. if no deal is reached before then bart workers could go on strike again. big crowds on the new eastern span of the bay bridge. tragedy at the 49ers home opener as a fan falls to his death. we are looking at traffic that is doing very well but we have a new breaker in fremont that we are getting more information on. we'll tell you more coming up. big difference in temps again between the coast and inland. inland will stay hot. unbelievable.

work. president is scheduled to take part in six television interviews before making a rare prime tame speech tomorrow. secretary of state john kerry says the planned strike has the support of saudi arabia and considered retaliation for the use of chemical weapons. >> we are not seeking to become engaged in or party to or take over syria's civil war. >> in an interview this morning in london kerry says syria's president could resolve the crisis by turning over all chemical weapons to the international community within a week. congress could begin voting on military action as soon as wednesday. president obama is scheduled to address the nation tomorrow at 6:00 in the evening pacific time. we will carry that address live right here on ktvu channel 2. protests for and against military action in syria are being held in the bay area. tonight demonstrators plan to protest outside of house

minority leader nancy pelosi's office in san francisco. code pink protestors also rallied on the golden gate bridge over the weekend. they say they fear even a limited military strike could lead to long-term u.s. involvement in syria. >> we are outraged that the congress is not listening to the american public. they are saying no to military attacks on syria. and we've had enough of war. >> some syrian americans also rallied over the weekend in san francisco's union square. they say u.s. action is desperately needed to end president bashar assad's regime. >> he says he's resigning at the end of the year so he can spend more time with the family. he was just 35 years old when he became president of the

things like that that help them through this very tough time. also this week state lawmakers in sacramento will debate a new package of gun control bills. they are the latest measures for the state that has the toughest gun laws in the country. they include a proposal to ban kits that convert gun into illegal assault weapons. a measure that would restrict -- and a proposal that would provide the city of oakland with additional power to regulate the sale of guns. this is a sad morning on the ucla campus. students, faculty, and staff members are mourning the death of a freshman football player that died over the weekend. a car hit and killed wide receiver nick while he was walking early yesterday morning. sheriffs deputy orange county says the driver stopped and is cooperating with investigators. the football team is planning a

contribute to the 20-year-old. a viewer sent us this photo of the scene after the fall. it happened at 1:30 yesterday afternoon. police say an unidentified man in his 30s was walking on the elevated walkway across jamestown avenue when he fell. the man appeared to be intoxicated. it is the 49ers last season at candle stick park. next season the home opener will be played at the team's new stadium in santa clara. fans that have been coming to candle stick park for years say they are ready for the move. >> the memories we hold here already. you can't take those away. >> yeah but i'm excited to see the new stadium. >> candle stick park will be demolished at the end of the season and replaced by a shopping center. police in indianapolis are

investigating a scary accident that happened shortly after the colts-oakland raiders game. two fans were hurt when a rail collapsed yesterday. witnesses say the two victims had been leaning against the railing when it gave way. one fan was taken away on a stretcher. another left in a wheelchair. no word on their current condition. 12 children are recovering after a carnival ride malfunctioned at a connecticut fair. causing riders to crash into one another. one adult was taken to the hospital after the accident. officials say a power outage caused the swing ride to stop. knocking children from their seats. >> i heard this crash of all this metal and all these seats clinking together. and then i look to my left and saw the swing ride it collapsed. all hose people were there. i saw one person fall out of

traffic looks good. the fog is kind of moving in through. and also the morning commute in san jose northbound 280 off to a good start. let's go back to the desk. let's take a look at what is going on. conditions anywhere from 71-83- degrees. depending on the elevation. i've seen 71 near brentwood and antioch. so there is very, very warm conditions. there is not much of a breeze. 78 toward mt. diablo. a little bit of a west, northwest breeze. yesterday the smoke was going south to north. it could reverse itself. conditions look to be pretty warm, toasty again today. there will be cooling tomorrow. this is really tough. i'm going 79-80. i'm using black diamond to give a forecast here. southwest at 11. 23%. highs 95-100 today. there is not a lot of a breeze

or anything. but it's more of a westerly. thankfully not east or northeast. tropical clouds stay to the south. we are getting fog coming in here. 50s and 60s. there is fairfield 70. 71. so for warm anywhere around mt. diablo. generally there is a -- most locations say -- it will be a cooler day with. 60s in ukiah. 43 up in tahoe. we may get one more hot low. start a little cool down tomorrow. so little bit cooler by the coast. cool to mild but then temperatures you don't have to go far to find warm to hot conditions. i will go with 100s here.

antioch, fairfield really close. livermore e89. gilroy 99. more fog a little cooler tuesday and it looks like we will settle in and keep it there. temperatures settling in. maybe a little below by the weekend. 4:51 is the time right now. the investigation continues of a reformed school in florida suspected of child abuse. an oakland man is talking about the time he spent there and says it's worse than people think. >> it was different from all the other hunts. just because he was the largest one i ever caught. it took multiple attempts but one florida man finally reeled in an a guy -- alligator that tips in the scales at 700 pounds.

sheriffs deputies -- one woman is dead. two men are injured. it happened at 1:30 yesterday morning at the paradise skate roller rink. investigators say a fight inside spilled outdoors and then someone opened fire. >> i seen the hand go up. >> the name of the woman that was killed has not been released.

so far no arrests have been made. time now 4:54. an oakland man is opening up about his experience of abuse. paul price called oakland his home for more than 35 years. he wanted to live as far away from florida as possible. in the last week a team in florida has found the remains of two children. there could be as many as 50 secret graves nearby dozer school for boys. >> don't be surprised when they exhume all of these bodies they find bullet homes in some of them -- holes in some of them. >> police say he was lucky to get out of the school. he was only there from 1961 to 1962. researchers from the university of south florida plan to continue looking for remains as early as next month. starting today microsoft making its x-box musing
