family. alex savage said that fire inspectors found smoke detectors sitting in the home without batteries. >> reporter: this is what firefighters were facing in pittsburgh. cell phone pictures from a neighbor show huge flames pouring from the front window after this fire was called in at 12:30 this morning. crews pulled three women out of the burning home, but none of them survived. >> this is so terrible, man. >> firefighters say one of the victims was found in a bedroom. the other two were found in the kitchen near the back door. >> all three were found in a position that suggested they were all attempting to get out of the home. >> >> reporter: but the women were all overcome by thick smoke and firefighters say they had no chance to escape because the place didn't have any working smoke detectors. >> quite frankly, the tragedy here is three smoke alarms, $15
