it. on the other side of treasure island, though, there is a big problem. sal is going to have that in just a moment. thank you for joining us. wednesday morning, september 18. i'm pam cook. >> what day of the week is it? >> hump day. now i remember. >> good morning. i'm dave clark. we'll check weather, traffic, all of that. >> steve, you know what day of the week it is? all right. yes, we all do, thank you. we have clear skies. a little bit of a northerly breeze for some. just down right chilly for others. there is definitely a little bite to the morning air. 58 san fran. a high today of 72. looks nice on the coast. 60s and 70s. i try not to show this too often because i don't always buy into it but it's generally right. low 80s for sm. mid and upper 80s for a few. again i think santa rosa, nap take definitely in the warmer category. it will be close toward east bay locations. 49 napa. 60 santa rosa. no breeze at the airport.

a breeze there. 50s or 60s. any kind of a breeze, oakland downtown 61. i think the airport is 56. so agent bit of a difference. it will be sunny today. we'll be good to goal. a little breezy, not nearly as windy as yesterday. more of a northerly breeze, not a westerly breeze. sunshine coast, bay and inland. everybody is in on that. the fog has been compleeptly chewed up. -- completely chewed up. 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. here's sal with your traffic. getting busy around the bay. i want to take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. you will see slow traffic as you drive up on the toll plaza. no major problems. however, you will see slow traffic here. it's about a ten-minute delay, especially if you're in the cash only lanes. if you're paying fast-track it may be a little bit better for you. this morning's commute is looking good on the san mateo bridge. if you are driving across to the peninsula. there are no major problems but you will see slow traffic here and there trying to get to the bridge. getting word after three-car crash blocking the left rage.

it does look like no one is injured. however, the traffic is going to be moving along a little bit slow. we'll take a look at it with our camera in just a moment in the next traffic update. 6:02. let's go back to the desk. time 6:03. drivers on highway 101 in san francisco weren't expecting to see flames out there but that's what they encountered. the southbound lanes were shut down early this morning. ktvu's tara moriarty has been out there for quite some time. what happened out there? >> reporter: well, we were able to speak with fire crews just as they were pulling the last engine into the firehouse. the fire captain told me there was an arson investigator being called out to the scene. we're on the back side where the fire was near highway 101 and also near a park that homeless people are known to frequent. authorities say at the are interested in talking to them to see what they heard and saw around 1:30 this morning. that's when flames broke out

101 southbound before the cesar chavez off ramp. crews were able to snuff out the flames within 15 minutes. we're very close to what's known as hospital curve. it's a very dangerous bend in the road. chp had to shut down the southbound lanes of the freeway while firefighters got the flames under control. >> no structure there. there's a cement retaining wall in the back. and then there's nothing, no structures around that area to burn. just wood and ivy. they did a great job protecting us. >> reporter: no one was hurt in this fire. the chp was allowing traffic through by 2:30 this morning. the backup lasting for just a little bit. the fire again under investigation and we are hearing reports that someone was detabled on 25th and rhode island, but that person was later released. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. firefighters in san mateo county investigating an early morning house fire in pacifica. here's some brand new video. now, this started shortly after 3:00 this morning at a home on

vega court. ktvu got there a short time later. we can tell you no one was hurt but you can see the flames damaged the garage there. investigators are still looking for the cause of that fire. also new this morning, an elderly woman was rushed to a hospital early this morning after a fire broke out in her san jose home. this is a photo from the fire department from this scene on toki court. they're telling us the curtains in the home caught fire. she was treated for smoke inhalation. the cause of the fire still under investigation. new information about the navy yard shooting rampage this week. we are now hearing that a virginia state law blocked the gunman from buying an assault rifle just two days before he carried out the attack. the gunman aaron alexis went to the sharpshooters gun store in northern virginia on saturday. "the new york times" says he test fired an ar-15 assault rifle but was blocked from

buying it because virginia state law bans the sale of such weapons to out of state buyers. instead alexis bought a shotgun and that's what he used in the shooting on monday. >> we ntinueto look into mr. alexis' past, including his medical and criminal histories. >> the gun store says alexis passed the required state and federal background checks to purchase the shotgun despite the fact that he had involvement in previous gun incidents and mental health issues. time now 6:06. the navy yard massacre is breaking back nightmares for the families of the newtown, connecticut school shooting massacre. they're in washington, d.c. this week. they're marking nine months since the gunman adam lanza went to sandy hook elementary school and killed 20 first grade students and six educators. the parents of the children will be holding a news conference at 9:00 this morning pacific time. they'll be calling for tougher

gun droll control. the trip -- gun control. this trip was planned well before the navy yard shooting. on our website you'll find continuing coverage of the navy yard shooting. check it out. look for the link on the home page under hot topics. police on the peninsula are investigating a string of commercial burglaries. six happened on the same night. claudine wong joins us now from san mateo with the pictures officers hope will lead to a break in this case. claudine? >> reporter: they certainly think the same person is responsible for all of these burglaries. let me tell you where we are. el camino is just in front of us. one burglary happened there. on this block three happened here and then on the next block over, another two. again all in the same night. let's take you to what we know about what happened. it happened in the overnight hours. not a lot of traffic coming through here at the time. they believe the same thing happened really in all of them. the burglar tried to go in through the rear end of the building targeting cash and anything they could get out

very quickly carrying out of there very quickly. they didn't find success in all of the buildings targeted. in fact, in three of the incidents, even though they found evidence that someone tried to get in, nothing was taken. they did however at one of the businesses get some surveillance photos. they are of a single person, a man in his early 20s they believe and again they believe the same person could be responsible for all six burglaries. certainly hoping that the surveillance photo helps them track down the person responsible. if we come back out here live, what they're doing this morning and since these burglaries is asking businesses to be aware, to install things like surveillance cameras, to put extra locks on their doors, to make their business just less desirable in terms of a possible target. the building we're standing in front of, we can see they do actually have an alarm system. they have notification telling people that they do have a burglary alarm here.

that's one of the tips that police are giving out this morning saying do whatever you can do to make it so that you are not targeted next. live here in san mateo, claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. a federal appeals court will debate whether a potential juror who is gay can be kicked off the jury that's deciding a multibillion dollar lawsuit over an aids drug. the supreme court forbids removing prospective jurors based on race and gender but has never ruled on sexual orientation. the defendant, a drug manufacturer, says it removed the juror not based on sexual orientation but because he knew about the drug, lost a friend to aids and worked in the courts. a federal judge has orpded barry bonds to meet with u.s. probation officers to discuss the terms of his 30-day house arrest. that order came yesterday, several days after the former giant superstar lost his appeal on his felony conviction of obstruction.

it's not known when he will begin his days of confinement. an appeals court ruled his testimony in 2003 before a grand jury was evasive and misleading. time 6:09. the oakland as are hot. it's hard to slow them down niece days but last night as they were beating the los angeles angels 2-1 to move closer to winning the american league west title, the as players little had to deal with a sewage problem at the coliseum. it was a bad, bad smell in the dugout. water had to be cleaned out of that area. in june they had a clogged pipe in a restroom that backed up sewage. it flooded parts of the ballpark, including the clubhouses of both the as and visiting mariners. they had to call in a hazmat crew, inspected premises for e. coli. several areas as you can imagine had to cleaned up. there is good news this morning for as fans. the as will take off the tarp of the third deck of the coliseum for the playoffs.

the as, believe it or not, sold out the first three playoff games in two hours yesterday but as they removed the tarp, they'll now raise seating capacity to 35,000 to more than 48,000 seats. a financial crisis for california's unemployed. the reason nearly 15,000 unemployment checks may be arriving late this morning. >> next, muni gets its report card and the grade not so good. problems unveiled after the agency's -- about the agency's driving and training programs. >> and we have some good news about that truck that was stuck on treasure island eastbound. looks like they have removed it. now the lower deck of the bay bridge, traffic looks good. oh, by the way, the traffic on the upper deck in the commute direction is also looking good. >> by the way, the weather is looking good especially by the coast where it will be sunny. if we get a northerly breeze, it will be warmer. how much warmer and maybe some rain on the weekend.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. it's 6:14. an audit by the city controller has uncovered a number of problems with muni's driving and training program. today's chronicle reports muni is currently short 100 drivers because the agency did not hire enough recruits. the audit also shows training classes are often canceled because of chronic absenteeism among instructors.

spf the instructors haven't driven a bus in years and in one case a trainer fell asleep with a rookie driver at the wheel. the family of a motorcyclist killed on interstate 880 in oakland is still trying to understand what led up to his death. 35-year-old jose curiel died early sunday morning in a crash involving several cars. the chp says road rage or even racing could be to blame. a friend who was riding with curiel says they were not involved in either. curiel's wife says he was always a safe rider because he wanted to come home to his family. >> get a call at 2:00 in the morning, right away you know something happened. then they come to your door crying and you know that he's gone already. >> the driver of a pickup truck involved in the crash was arrested for dui. the chp says they're still investigating and in the meantime the motorcycle club curiel belonged to is raising money to help pay for his funeral. time 6:15. new this morning a top russian diplomat says syria is turning

over new material about the chemical weapons attack last month. the united nations inspectors say chemical weapons were used during an august 21 attack but it's not clear if the syrian rebels or the syrian government used them. russian deputy foreign minister says the new material points to the syrian rebels but says russia has not made any final conclusions. he's expected to meet with syrian president assad later today. this morning in washington the house foreign affairs committee will hold a hearing  otter i.r.s. attack on the u.s. consulate in benghazi, lybia. republicans on the committee say they want to know why more top administrators in the state department haven't been punished or suffered consequences for not providing enough security at that consulate. four americans were killed in the attack, including ambassador chris stevens. this morning a congressional hearing will take a look at contractor access to military installations in the u.s. following the shooting rampage at the navy yard in

washington, d.c. the house armed services hearing will discuss a department of defense inspector general report that found flaws in the navy's security clearance system. there will also be a moment of silence at the hearing to honor the victims of that navy yard shooting. later this morning, san francisco district attorney george gascony will detail the city's new stalking law. it lengthens the time of restraining orders to five years. it also make it is easier for victims to obtain a restraining order. the announcement will take place on the statements of the state building at 10:45 this morning. our time is now 6:17. rohnert police releasing a sketch about a sexual assault case. take a look at it. this is what the suspect looks like. police describe him as an african-american between 30 and 40 years old, between 5'10" and 6 feet tall. he also had a thin build and a tattoo of writing on his neck. police say this suspect grabbed a housekeeper at the double

tree hotel last friday afternoon. he's accused of putting a knife to her neck as she was cleaning a patio, tying her up and then assaulting her before she fought him off. if you have any information, get in contact with rohnert park police. we may find out if the nation's oldest african- american bookstore will be able to stay open. san francisco's historic preservation commission is set to decide if the fill more street building that houses marcus books is a historic site. next door jim bo's bob city is also being considered. jim bo's was once a jazz club that hosted those like miles davis. let's check the commute. how is it, sal? >> getting busier now, pam and dave. we're looking at the commute now as you drive into san francisco. but also on the other bridges. for example, the bay bridge has about a 10 to 15-minute delay but if you don't want to use

that, you can use either the richmond bridge which by the way looks good or the san mateo bridge which has been looking very nice so far heading off to the high-rise. interstate 880, the traffic here looks good. so does northbound 101 coming through san francisco approaching the 80 split. i want to mention the livermore valley. of course slow traffic from 205 unthe main part of the morning which is normally the case. if driving castro valley not a bad commute but there's slowing where 23 8 and 580 meet. let's go to steve. a very good morning, clear morning. cool for some. upper 40s, low 50s. mild, warm for others. we could get a north breeze. it will be warmer today, breezy, lot of sunshine. sunny side up. sunshine coast as well. cool to cold for this time of year tomorrow morning but it will be sunny. clouds increase on friday. looks like rain in the north bay saturday. we'll ease into it, modify the forecast when we get to friday and see if it will make it farther south.

everything is coming down out of the northwest. more norm breeze today instead of a westerly breeze. so coastal warm-up, i think inland areas not everyone -- everyone will get in the sun but especially santa rosa. they can really warm up in this pattern and the coast as well. it's not an off shore breeze but it is a northerly breeze. 58 san francisco. 72 in the city and lots of sunshine today, occasionally high cloud might zip by. sunny today and most of tomorrow. 30 in tahoe. a little chill there. there are some upper 40s or low 50s. other locations are rather mild. 49 napa airport. 61 novato. 60 santa rosa. i did see 66 out towards antioch and brentwood. other locations, especially on the coast are very cool. half moon bay 46. i think pacifica is 48. so there are some cool readings. not much of a delta breeze. that's not the key. it's the north wind which i could easily see them getting around 86, 87 degrees. but the north wind has to hold. clear skies.

level since may 2008. construction on apartments, though, was down. tess la is joining the race to produce a car that drives itself. the c.e.o. says the car would allow the driver hands off driving 90 % of the -- to hand off 9 on% of the control actually to the car's computer system. he expects that car to be on the market in the next three years. he says it will take a little longer to get a car that can drive completely on autopilot. >> it's such a weird concept. >> can you imagine? >> no, i can't. >> it's 6:22. also checkmate for a san francisco tradition. the criminal reason the police are banning people from playing chess out on market street. also, a big change coming to one of america's most popular airlines. the perk southwest airlines is getting rid of. unbelievable.

time 6:25. southwest passengers who don't show up for your flight, you won't get credit for unused tickets anymore. the airline had allowed travelers who didn't show up to apply that ticket price towards another trip. now they're enforcing the no show policy. passengers have until 10 minutes before departure time to notify the airline they won't be on the flight.

they can cancel or rebook and there's no fee for changing travel plans, even on non refundable tickets. the oakland police department is getting help from the federal government in its battle against violent crime. the u.s. department department of justice has awarded the city $4.5 million to hire ten new police officers. federal records show oakland has one of the nation's most understaffed police departments. oakland congresswoman barbra lee says the federal money will help police deal with oakland's crime crisis. >> i've been to a lot of families who -- whose pain is hard to describe. that should not happen in america. >> federal money is also going to several other law enforcement agencies here in the bay area. alameda county will be able to pay for eight more deputies with its federal grant. east palo alto will receive $250,000 for two more officers. same goes for hayward which will also be able to add two

adiggal officers. and vallejo will be able to put four more police officers on the streets with its million dollar grant. time 16:26. a -- is 6:26. a new bike path in oakland is helping give bicyclists more space on a busy road. the city's first green bicycle pathway is complete. it's near the mcarthur bart station. it's a bike lane painted green on 40th street from add line vote to martin luther king, jr. way and from telegraph avenue to webster street. the city of oakland is planning another green path into broadway between grant avenue and 25th street. flames burned up some brush and trees on the side of highway 101 in san francisco. the people of interest fire officials really want to talk to. a rough week so far for caltrain as it deals with broken trains. we'll tell you why delays keep happening and if any relief is in sight. >> good morning. just finding out about a new crash on the bay bridge. this one just popped up.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 news. over on the stock exchange celebrating an ipo. 346 million dollars raised. that's mexico's third largest airline. it is a low-cost airline and it is going to be flying out of oakland and they're celebrating going public today. i always like to mention when companies go public, particularly an airline, it's kind of interesting. it does show some confidence in the marketplace in the economy. so we'll get all the numbers

warming up. sunny, breezy, a little cool to start off but warm for many. i think the warmest temps will be around pet lumina, novato up to santa rose sa. upper #s on if the north wind holds. 70s around the bay. here's sal. good morning. we do have a problem reported on the bay bridge westbound. the toll plaza. they're going to slow the metering lights down. already beginning to see a little bit more of a crowd here. i want to look at the span of the upper deck. doesn't looks like there's a big slowdown but there's a problem reported west just before treasure island. so we're going to keep an eye on that and see if there is indeed a problem building up on that upper deck. moving along and taking a look at the livermore valley, we've had very heavy traffic this morning on 580. right through. it gets better by the time you reach dublin and then 880 traffic as you drive through hayward is going to be a little bit slow already after 238. it gets better by a street. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. chp had to shut down

highway 101 early this morning to make room for firefighters. you can see fighting off the flames right on the side of the roadway there. tara moriarty joins us now from san francisco and firefighters talking about whether or not this is sus spirk. tara? -- >> this is suspicious? >> reporter: an arson investigator was called out to the scene. we're on the back side. you can see a grove of trees and on the other side of that is where the fire was. we're also near a park that authorities say homeless people are known to frequent. authorities have already questioned some of those folks and they -- about what they saw around 1:30 this morning and then they're going to be talking to them a little later as well. around 1:30 the flames broke out along 101 southbound just before the cesar chavez off ramp. two engines responded and crews were able to snuff out the flames within 15 minutes. we're very close to what is known as hospital curve. it's a very dangerous bend in the roadway. chp had to shut down the southbound lanes of feetway while firefighters got the flames under control.

>> it looked a lot bigger than it was. it came in as a small grass fire. when we got there it was probably about ten yards by ten yards and it did catch a couple of the eucalyptus trees on fire, extended up about 20 or 30 feet. >> reporter: luckily no one was hurt in this fire. the chp was allowing traffic through by 2:30 this morning. the backup only lasting for a little while. the fire again is under investigation and we heard that authorities detained someone close by on 25th and rhode island, but that person was later released. we're live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. caltrain has been plagued with broken trains and delay and that problem may not change any time soon. train management say they can't promise it's going to get bernie time soon. jeanine de la vega is joining us live from san jose. what's going on? >> reporter: yeah, commuters say they are experiencing a

very bad week when it comes to caltrain. one man that i spoke to said that he woke up an hour early just so he with catch an earlier train to make it to work on time. caltrain says the problem is they're operating older locomotives. caltrain is operating an asian fleet -- aging fleet of trains. most are over 25 years old and are nearing the end of their service life. caltrain plans to convert to a fully electric fleet but that won't happen until 2019. a spokeswoman told the paper it doesn't make financial sense to upgrade the older trains now so instead she will focus their empts on maintaining them but commuters are growing weary of having delays because of trains breaking down. >> i understand there's going to be delays but day in and day out is just getting a little bit too far-fetched and the whole thing is i have to change trains now so i can get in on time to go to work. i've got to get up an hour

earlier. >> reporter: caltrain's latest report shows ridership continues to increase and despite delays, many commuters are still choosing to stick with the train service. but many riders are calling the trains unreliable and they say the upgrade can't come soon enough. we're trying to get a hold of a caltrain spokesperson to get more answers and we'll bring that you as soon as we get it coming up on mornings on 2. reporting live from san jose, jeanine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. we are now hearing about some dramatic rescues that happened monday during the shooting rampage at the navy yard in washington, d.c. a helicopter crew with the u.s. park police spotted four people on the roof of a building trying to get away from the gunman. one of the women had to -- had been shot in the shoulder. the helicopter holded her into the basket -- loaded her into the basket and hoisted her life. >> we felt she was going to bleed to death if left on the roof there. >> the helicopter crew got all four people off the roof of the building safely while the shooter was still in the

building below. the secretary of the navy has ordered a security review focusing on how well the navy protects its bases and how it screens its workers. the gunman who killed 12 people at the navy ward was a contractor who had a valid i.d. that allowed him access to the facility. a pentagon investigation found that the navy security clearance system of its bases is flawed. on our website ktvu.com, you can find continuing coverage of the navy yard shooting. look for the link on the home page under hot topics. time is now 6:37. it's become a smelly problem for the 45-year-old oakland coliseum. during yesterday's oakland as game against the angels, sewage backed up right near the players' dugout. ktvu's brian flores is at coliseum right now and tell us how this may play into their play for a new venue.

>> reporter: the sewage issue is becoming a problem as this is the second time it's happened this year. we want to go to some video from yesterday. you see some of the players standing just outside of the dugout. could be excited because of a walkoff win or it could be a foul smell. around the 7th inning maintenance workers had to clear up what was reported to be, quote, a good amount of water that gushed on to the floor coming from the bathroom there. still unclear what caused it but the vice. of stadium operations told "u.s.a. today" that it was linked to one toilet, that the situation will be taken care of before this afternoon's game. we mentioned this wasn't the only time. we want to take you back to june of this year. in a home game against the mariners, a clogged pipe backed up sewage and floolded the lower floor -- flooded the lower floor of the ballpark. players had to move to higher ground to the oaked raiders -- oakland raiders locker room. coliseum officials say the

where all of this happened. that's elcame mean know behind me. -- el camino. one business was targeted. on this block three and one block down, another two businesses. six businesses, all in the same night. and police believe the same person could be responsible for all of them. let's tell you about what happened and what we know about it happened overnight between september 11 and september 12, sometime in the overnight hours. six businesses targeted. three they didn't get anything but there were signs that someone was trying to break in. it appears they tried to get in from the back of the building. not sure if one person or more than one person is responsible but they do have surveillance photos we want to show you. surveillance photos taken from one business. you can see a man believed to be in his early 20's. again based on what they've seen from the outside of the businesses and how they tried to get in, it appears the same person may be responsible for all of them, got away with some cash out of some of the businesses and think they were easily taken away. i want to take you back out here live to this liquor store

we're standing next to on 25th avenue. the person who works inside says this is not one of the businesses targeted but there are things i want to show you on the outside of the building. police are asking businesses to be aware. they do have surveillance cameras. over on the doors they have this which is a secondary lock. they lock it down here and they also lock it up here. that's another thing police say will help. all of these things including burglar alarms, extra lighting they say will make victims less of a target. certainly when you have a business area that is quiet at night, they want to do everything they can to make sure that burglars just look somewhere else. we have also seen police making their way through the area. they say extra patrols and extra investigative tips are in play right now as they try to find the people responsible. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. palo alto police are looking for a hit and-run driver who hit a blind church minister and his guide dog. pastor albert macklin was in a crosswalk at the intersection of myrtle street and sparrow court monday night when he says

someone backed into him and his dog. he says the woman stopped and asked if macklin was okay but then took off. >> i was waiting for her, maybe think she would come toward me and check me out and see if i was okay. but after she got in the car to move the car, she didn't come back at all. >> macklin and his dog were not seriously hurt but adding to the frustration, he says when called police, they declined to take a report because there were no other witnesses and he couldn't see what happened. a police captain did come to his home the next day to take a report and apologized. macklin is now petitioning to add speed bumps to the area. also this morning, a child is recovering after being hit by flying glass during a shooting in oakland. it happened in broad daylight yesterday afternoon on 27th avenue in the city's fruitvale neighborhood. police say the little boy and his mother were sitting in a car when shooters in different directions opened fire. stray bullets shattered the car

windows. the child who's believed to be 5 or 6 years old is now listed in stable condition and police are still searching for the suspect. time is 6:47. finally some relief for the colorado flood victims. the flood waters are starting to recede now. for the first time since last week's historic floods there, people in the boulder area had a rain free day yesterday. there's a 20% chance of rain today. colorado estimates about 600 people are still stranded in some of the isolated areas. the only way to get to them is by helicopters as rain and landslides have washed out or collapsed some of the main roads. back here at home, investigators are looking into the possibility a deadly fire in chasta county may have been deliberately set. sheriff's office said investigators found at least two ignition points for the fire. that's a sign it may have been arson. a 56-year-old man died in last week's fire. the flames also destroyed 68 homes and burned 12 square miles.

6:49 is the time. sal has been covering the crash on the big bridge. how is it affecting everything this morning? >> anything on the bay bridge really affects every. you know how it goes there. it's not a normal highway, if you will. westbound i want to show it to you. the paramedics have arrived. looks like there are minor injuries. one of those really small cars, the kind that people joke about being able to put in your hip pocket and a large car collided on the bridge here. you can see traffic is pretty slow. joe, if you want to move to the left, i just want to show people as we go past this building, traffic on the upper deck is very slow coming in from treasure island. on the other side, too, it's backed up all the way across. when you get to the toll plaza, you will see traffic slow because they've had slowed the metering lights down getting into san francisco. i also want to mention another crash. this one is on the peninsula. northbound 101 as you come up on the parkway. that's on the shoulder now but traffic is backing up out of

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. taking a live look at the big board. dow jones down a little bit. nasdaq and s&p 500 a little bit mixed as well this morning. of course we're waiting for an announcement from the fed, the federal reserve as they have their -- wrapping up their two- day meeting. the s&p 500 very close to its all-time high. starbucks changing its policy on guns in its stores. the coffee chain says it won't ban them but it is asking gun owners not to bring their weapons inside the stores or on to the patio areas. that's a reversal of the stand it had taken unlike many restaurants, starbucks had gone along with local laws

concerning guns being carried in plain sight. starbucks says it hopes gun owners will go along with the new policy about it will still serve people who bring in guns. time 6:56. the city of hayward could put restrictions on who could give food to the homeless. the portuguese park is a place where meals are given to people who are down on their luck. some of the neighbors have complained about the behavior of some of the people out there and say they leave trash behind. so next monday the city council will vote on requiring food donors to get a permit first and also they've got to clean up afterwards. >> we also want to make sure people are safe. we don't want people to get sick. >> i really don't know what i would do if it wasn't here. it's a matter of life or death. >> the city council -- if the city council approves the permit idea, it would take effect in november. san francisco and berkley already require those kinds of permits. san jose does not. he may be an accomplished actor and producer but mark
