going as well. thank you for joining us on this monday morning september 23rd i'm pam cook. >> and i'm dave clark. let's check your weather and traffic. steve is right there. i am. it's the first full day of fall and it will be sunny. everything has lifted to the north. we are not worried about anything expect for patchy low clouds. low 50s. mid 50s for most. everyone is pretty close here. coast bay inland getting that time of year where there is sometimes it's not much-a spread. sunny and warmer for fairfield today. we will start you off with 54 and end up with 81. as far as everything going to the north it's really up near the oregon border. not for us. sunshine for us. temps coming up from those 70s. 60s and 70s by the water. here is sal. steve, good morning. right now traffic is doing pretty well. but it's getting busier in some of the key spots.

for example at the toll plaza we are looking at traffic that is beginning to fill this. those metering lights should be on soon. once that happens you will see a bigger backup. ing to unusual. 10-15 minutes at least. before you make it on past the metering lights. look agent the commute if you are driving on the bridge itself, this is pretty good. as you can see westbound traffic is moving along nicely. the eastbound traffic lighter than that. it's moving well from treasure island to oakland. i want to remind you that howard street is closed between third and fourth. and usually what happens is people that are on howard street have to make this big turn here. there is a huge traffic jam right there. i want to mention right now san francisco freeways are looking good. if you are coming in from the airport 101 looks good all the

way to downtown. it happened last night at the intersection of san bruno and san mateo avenues when a cal train construction crew hit the line. alex savidge is right out there this morning. alex, you just spoke to a spokeswoman about service this morning. >> yeah and she told me cal train service back on schedule this morning after it was stopped last night. the reason it was stopped is because the location of this gas leak is right next to train tracks in this area. at this construction site on san brew foe avenue. this is all part of a $155 million project that raised the train tracks in this area above the roadway. last night workers struck a two inch line as they were doing some work and that line that we will show you is just beyond the orange barriers. you can see this morning pg&e crews are still out here on the scene and they are working to repair this line.

it has been capped though. no evacuations were ordered and no one was hurt but the area was sealed off for a time. the leak made a lot of people nervous because it happened three miles away from the site of a deadly san bruno pipeline explosion back in 2010. pg&e crews who came in capped this leak just after 1:00 this morning after it was spewing natural gas for five hours. the ruptured line also forced cal train to stop all of its trains. >> at that point we were advised to stop our train service. we stopped trains in millbrae and south san francisco. we were able to provide a bus bridge between the two points. and bart also operated. >> reporter: i want to show you the first train of the morning that came through this area at 5:15. it was right on time. the trains where already traveling on those elevated tracks. that is all part of this

construction project. there is still a lot more work to be done. the entire project won't be complete until next spring. cal trains representatives say despite last night's leak, construction work lo go on later on today. in the meantime we have put in several calls into pg&e in figure how long it will take to prepare this broken line and we have not heard back. alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. time is 6:05. we are following developing news from kenya where al qaeda linked terrorists are still believed to be holding hostages in a shopping mall. this is from outside that shopping mall. look at the smoke rising from the west gate mall in nie row bee kenya. a lot of things have been happening. several explosions were heard from that mall. gunmen attacked the mall on saturday killing at least 69 people and injuring 175 more.

an american from north carolina described that terrifying scene. >> you could hear while we were back there methodically and going from store to store talking to people, asking questions, shooting, screams, and then it would stop for awhile. reportedly the gunman targeted non muslims. one of those injured in the mall attack in kenya is a uc berkeley graduate. she posted a picture of herself getting treatment for facial cuts. she hopes the shooting doesn't have people thinking badly of kenya. >> i'm very prideful for the country and i love kenyons. even though i'm american. >> that is elaine dang that

works at eat out kenya helps visitors find restaurants there. people who often go to a park in santa clara worried the park would be destroyed because of a parking problem at the new 4ers staid -- at the new 49ers stadium. janine de la vega out there right now with the details of what is going on and possible solution. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. we are here at levi stadium. you can see the stadium is coming along well as far as construction goes. but look at how close it is to the youth soccer field. now this may turn into a parking lot for football fans. the mercury news is reporting the new 49ers stadium is about 5,000 parking spaces short of their goal of 21,000 spaces. santa clara city leaders met recently to discuss options on where to relocate the soccer field. one of the proposed spaces is

you'll stack natural area that has welt lands, native plants, and birds and butterfly garden. they have started a group called save you'll stack online. because they fear moving the soccer fields would ruin it. it's a temporary fix because a retail shopping plaza is planned for that land. reporting live from santa clara janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. six people suspected in a violent attack in a san francisco murder case are due in court this morning. they are charged with killing 26-year-old steven reed. he was found bound and gagged on brussel street with a young woman injured in that apack.

the defendant and victims knew each other. the accused attacker of a high school teach ser expected to go on trial this morning. david velazquez is accused of trying to force his teacher into his car at knife point when she was 19. prosecutors say when she fell to the ground he tried to rape her but was stopped by another teacher. the clock keeps ticking toward another possible bart strike. look at the clock. this morning we are 17 days away from the end of that court ordered cooling off period on october 10th. as the deadline gets closer bart management and unions go back to the bargaining table this morning. bart released a schedule yesterday. meetings are set for every day through october 10th. bart says the schedule should give enough negotiating time. the meetings start at 9:30 this morning and on most mornings they are expected to focus on

welcome back. closing arguments start in santa clara county about what to do with lead paint. the companies knew for decades that lead paint can peel off and be hazardous. alameda, san mateo and san francisco counties are among the plaintiffs that want the companies to remove lead paint from millions of older homes.

wednesday. a little warmer today with lots of sunshine. 80s, 70s. here is sal. we are still working on a crash on 880 southbound but first i want to let you know about the toll plaza that is getting a little backup. it's curious we are not getting not a lot of backup in the far left lanes. not all that bad about a 10-15 minute wait. 80 north and southbound looks good. but just down the road in hayward southbound 880 near ace street there is an injury crash there. traffic is backing up past 238 and you can see all the read on the map. not only on 880 but past 238. howard street is closed. expect it to cause traffic jams. bart is a good way to get there. cal tran is not effected by the earlier gas leak. we talked about muni not reporting delays. let's go back to the desk.

a gas leak in san bruno is now capped. pg&e crews are still at the intersection of san bruno and san mateo avenues. they are repairing the broken pipe out there. alex savage is also there. you just got a report from pg&e. what did they just say? >> i just talked with a partly cloudy e representative. he said his gas line was marked. they are trying to figure out how that construction worker missed the line and ruptured it with a backhoe. the line in question is a two inch natural gas line. now this accident happened just after 8:00 last night here at this construction site at san bruno avenue. this is a 155 million project to raise the cal train tracks in this area up allove the pg&e

crews are working late in the night. trains are back on schedule this morning. there were no evacuations ordered and pg&e representative talked about what went into that decision. >> you take a look around, you can see it was just a two inch line and we were on scene. determination was made evacuations weren't necessary. >> reporter: there is the first train that came through at 5:15 this morning and it was right on time. the whole thing is expected to be complete next spring. despite last night's leak, construction work will continue here at this job site later on today. pg&e crews meantime remain out here on the scene. they are continuing to try to do all the repair work on this

ruptured gas line. they have capped a leak but they have to do repair work. live this morning in san bruno alex savidge ktvu channel 2 news. new this morning oakland police are investigating a deadly shooting. it happened on e street. police say the victim died at the scene. his name has not been released. so far no arrests have been made. oakland city councilman is renewing the call curfew on teenagers. tara moriarty is in oakland. says it is not the first time this has been proposed. tara. >> reporter: that is right. city councilman is pushing for it. some say it isn't fair. say a teenager wants to go to a movie on friday night and lets out after 10:00, he or she could be punished. this has long been a very

controversial issue. but oakland city councilman noah gallo says he's had enough violence and wants to do something about it. he will present the proposal to the council tomorrow. the ban would penalize kids under the age of 18 and their parents if they are caught out in public. most children being targeted don't have true adult supervision to begin with. oakland leaders tried in 2011 to enact a youth curfew. the mayor has not said if she will support the curfew only that she is considering. we have put a call into gallo this morning. we are waiting to hear from him a little bit later. live in oakland i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. time is 6:36. new this morning a san francisco strip club is suing the software giant oracle.

the san francisco chronicle reports oracle is being sued by the new century theater. the strip club is claiming an oracle employee ran up $33,000 in charges for strip club services on a company credit card and oracle has not made the payment. it allegedly happened over two nights during last year's open world conference. this year's conference is happening right now. it will end on thursday. oriole's open world conference has begun in san francisco. the international event kicked off with a welcoming speech from oriole founder larry ellison. he focused on new products to make searching, storing, and backing up data businesses faster and cheaper. >> i hope to learn as much as possible about the newest innovations in java.
