just as troubling. i'm tori campbell. we've just learned new information about a deadly stabbing in san francisco. it's lifnled to a rivalry baseball game. it happened nearly after an hour after the game between the dodgers and giants ended up. tara moriarty is live with more. >> reporter: the dodger fans were coming out of a bar near the ballpark when they ran across the giants' fan and there was some sort of a confrontation. it escalated. by the end of it, a 24-year-old had been stabbed. he was ultimately killed. this is a dmv photo she want to show you. 24-year-old jonathan denver. he was with the dodgers' group with his father, his father's girlfriend and brother and a friend. they just left the giants' game in the 8th inning and went to

the bar. after 11:40, that's when they left, they crossed paths with the giants' group near harrison and third street. >> officers were still in the area from our ballpark deployment and two suspects were taken into custody at second and howard streets. we do not have the weapon in custody. we are canvassing the area for that now. we're also looking for the two other suspects. we would request from the public and/or any business in the area if anybody has any video with regard to this, we would like to have it. >> reporter: we know that the suspect vehicle is registered out of lodi. we do know that one of them is 18, another 21 years old. we don't know what city the victim is from. but san francisco police say there really plan to -- they really plan to beef of you security. the chief says there's absolutely no tollration for this sort of behavior.

it's somebody that starts off between two sports teams and escalates to violence. two suspects in custody. but police are searching for two more. we're live in san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. more details now -- the deadly stabbing comes the same night the giants held a fund- raiser for bryan ceo. he's the giants' fan attacked outside of dodger stadium. he was beaten and still struggles with baseball functions. >> people identify so much with the team that it becomes a personal issue. >> i don't think there's a place for it, personally. it's sports. it's a game. >> i understand fan enthusiasm for sure. but this is not that. this is beyond the pale.

it's violence. >> two san bernardino men are still awaiting trial in los angeles in connection with the bryan stow attack. we are edging closer to another possible b.a.r.t. strike. as you can see, we're now exactly two weeks away from the expiration of the governor- ordered 60-day cooling off period. and that means if no deal is reached soon, b.a.r.t. workers have promised to walk off the job as early as friday october 11th. >> we have team coverage of the looming b.a.r.t. strike. claudine wong talked to bay area city councilmen who wants to make it illegal for public transit workers to strike. we begin with sal castanedo in the newsroom with what's happening right now with negotiations. >> today's b.a.r.t. board of directors is meeting to evaluate and make any changes they feel necessary. union leaders also showed up to speak to the board. they hope to move further in negotiations. the b.a.r.t.

board of directors ultimately makes the decision as to what offer may be presented from the unions. union members showed up to speak urging moment and negotiations. >> board of directors have the final say so on what goes on. they are the ones that approve or don't approve whatever tentative agreement is reached. >> you are hoping to make an impression on them? >> absolutely. >> reporter: b.a.r.t. and the labor unions are said to be far apart on salary, healthcare premiums and pensions. if no deal is reached, they say a strike is possible when a cord-ordered cooling-off period ends. >> there will be a slowed- session meeting after the public comment is completed and then the board will discuss the progress or lack thereof in the negotiations with the team. >> b.a.r.t. board members seem to be backing away from having managers operate the trains in

case of a strike but other strike plans are in full swing. the chp will enforce carpool lanes all day long on 80 and 680. b.a.r.t. will operate special charter buses from east bay stations into san francisco. live in the newsroom, sal castanedo, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. >> with the possibility of a b.a.r.t. strike looming, claudine wong reports that today a message was taken directly to the riders. >> want to stop b.a.r.t. from striking. >> reporter: steve glazer spent about two hours i trying to get b.a.r.t. riders on his push for a ban on the strike. >> want to stop b.a.r.t. from striking. he says he's not taking sides in the labor negotiations but wants to protect riders and the economy. commuters we talked to had mixed reactions. >> this is not as simple as they shouldn't strike or they can't strike. i think they should have the right to strike.

>> i think it's a great thing. i think the services they provide are terrific. think they work hard. they do a great job but it shouldn't be interrupted by a strike. >> reporter: we talked to both b.a.r.t. and the union and neither were behind the ban because it would take away with their leverage at thening table -- at the bargaining table. glazer acknowledges there's a reason he's out here alone. sacramento toyed with the idea but a bill has never been tractioned. >> i'm excited that we're trying to build a movement here that the politicians have to listen to and that everybody should listen to. >> reporter: any politicians calling you saying i want to get out there with you? >> no. i shouldn't be out here alone. >> reporter: bup you -- but you are? >> yes. >> this is an anti-union

message and this guy is running for political office in sacramento. >> reporter: but in two hours, page's petition signatures are doubled. so it appears someone is listening. an 18-year-old man is now considered the only person of interest in the brutal beating of a pleasanton homeowner. police say david lamont was attack on saturday when he -- attacked on saturday when he tried to confront a young man making noise outside of his home. he's still in a coma. investigators say the person of interest does not live in pleasanton. a vigil is scheduled for tonight to remember a san francisco state university student who police say is the victim of a random killing at a muni stop. justin valdez was gunned down in the city's ingleside heights

neighborhoods. investigators say he was seen on a muni camera right before the shooting. >> the kind of person justin was, he did not deserve what happened to him. the guy deserves to be punished for it, like justice needs to be served. >> reporter: valdez grew up in southern california. friends say he was a good student a swimmer and someone who is passionate about the environment. tonight's vigil will be at 7:00 at san francisco state. menlo park is one step closer to buying four surveillance cameras and three license plate readers. the city council approved the police department's request for the new equipment but adds it cannot be used until an ordinance is in place to address privacy concerns. the surveillance dam cameras will be mounted -- the surveillance cameras will be mounted in the bel haven neighborhood and license plate readers be atarped to patrol cars. police officers are warning the public about a telephone

scam involving unpaid loan debts and traffic tickets. in the calls, it shows a legitimate number and the caller claims to be from the sfpd. contact has been made through e- mail and preordered calls. in the loan scam, the caller demands a payment of $500 in the unpaid traffic scam the caller asks for $154 or more. the caller instructs victims to purchase cash load cars as payments. the police department says as a matter of policy it never contacts anyone by phone for payments. >> reporter: a santa cruz man is arrested for stalking kids near schools. we'll tell you what police found at his house and why there may be more victims. and a red flag warning in effect for parts of the bay area. steve paulson will tell you what that means for you and how long it's going to last. and two threatening letters sent to a local school.

if there are more children as a man is arrested for child pornography. here's more. >> reporter: students at santa cruz high school are a bit sayer now that a man had been lurking behind girls is behind bars. >> down by the beach and they noticed something weird was going on. >> reporter: police say joshua paul james had a video camera and was filming them and taking photographs. he followed them. >> he was focusing on inappropriate body arts to fulfill some of his sexual fantasies and sexual gratifications. >> reporter: the girls took down the license plate of the car, they tracked it and they tracked him down. a parent called police after he was seen taking pictures near

pacific collegiate school. neighbors were upset by the news. >> i have to start keeping more of an eye out and being more watchful. i'm more trusting. >> we're greatly concerned. we're happy that this guy is behind bars. >> reporter: police are convinced without the action of the students and neighbors james would have struck again. they are in the process of looking through his computer and photography equipment to see if there are additional victims. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. a forecast of high winds has fire officials on alert today. the national weather service has issued a red flag warning for the hills in the north and east bay. it's in effect until 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. one concern is trees that are not trimmed. >> any time we get trees close to power lines, it's a concern. most of the time it's not because we don't have the wind. as you can see, the wind is up today and that allows force the

trees to -- for the trees to sway into the power lines and that can absolutely cause a fire. >> pg&e planned to have nearly a hundred crews cutting back trees in an effort to prevent outages and fires. >> reporter: it's clear for miles and miles. we can't find a cloud unless it's up toward the sierra nevada. the big news, we had the red flag warning. it was cold. a lot of 30s and 40s from lake county, to mendocino. i think we'll see a repeat performance. a couple of good gusts around mt. diablo. we get a north nearly breeze. north northeasterly breeze. some of the high elevations are not that bad. but the north and east bay seem to be taking the brunt of it and that's where the focus will be on the red flag. we have red flag warnings for almost everything. the strongest gusts are in the

yesterday the wind was stronger near the coast. high pressure means 70s and near 80s for almost everybody. it's a lot of 70s. this little system that brought the cold air is going to move out. the cold air is in place and it will be back tomorrow morning. 70s to near 80s. everybody is close. everyone is hovering around the 70s. temperatures, though, it looks like it continues their rise as we go into friday and saturday. nothing too crazy here? it looks like we'll have 80s. another system moves in. maybe rain toward the north on monday. things not sticking around, too long. they are here for 2:00 or 3:00 and then gone. >> thank you. oracle team usa completed a shocking comeback to retain the america's cup. >> america's cup will stay in america. >> oh, yeah, baby! >> oracle wonnate straight races to pull -- won eight

straight races to pull out the win. they ended up with an overwhelming victory by 44 seconds. you can see larry ellison's team hoisting and kissing the oldest sports trophy. so far it's uncertain where the 35th america's cup will be held in three years. ellison said he would like san francisco to play host again. more than a million people are estimated to watch the races since they began in july. but the city is estimated to have barely made a profit on the regatta. and a big announcement in the last hour from the man in charge of baseball. big news from twitter and the nfl. it may be good news for fans.

some upbeat news about jobs and retailers listing the stock market in early afternoon trading. unemployment claims fell to the lowest levels in 6 years. j.c. penney and bed bath and beyond delivered good news the dow is up 20. the nasdaq up 18 and the s&p up 1. nfl instant replays are coming to twitter. the agreement with the nfl marks twitert's biggest sports- related agreement so far for the amplified agreement. they will package game highlights as well as instant replays. the replay could boost twitter's revenue before the

highly-yeapted ipo. the 49ers are making a bid to host the college national championship game in 2017 at the new stadium. the 9ers plan to play at the stadium beginning next year and they are already slated to host super bowl 2016. and we have just learned that long-time major league commissioner bud selig will retire, step down in january of 2015. selig says his transition plan will include the reorganization of central baseball management. they took over as commissioner in 1992. we'll have more on this on ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00. the giants have released a statement about this morning's killing of a dodgers' fan near

at&t park. in it, they say they are deeply saddened and thoughted and prayers are with their family. they also went on to say "while details are still emerling we want to be there that there's absolutely no place in our community for this type of senseless violence. the giants say they are working with san francisco police and as we told you at the top of this newscast, sfpd will step up security in and around at&t park tonight. you may find more organic foods in grocery stores. the united states and japan have just made an agreement that would make it easier to import each other's organic products. under the deal food that's certified organic in japan will get an automatic organic label in the united states. the same goes for u.s. exports to japan. supporters say this could lead to a flow of u.s. products to u.s. markets at a cheaper price. coming up at 5:00, a south bay teacher accused of having sex with a student.
