degrees in very short areas. from mountain view to palo alto. any breeze the temperatures warmed them out. if not it's cool to cold. san francisco sitting at 62 wright now. i will go 60 at 7:00 a.m.. there is a little puff of an offshore breeze. red flag warning goes until 3:00 today. 46 miles an hour at mt. diablo. again this is for 1,000 feet and there is nothing too bad yet. it's a little northerly breeze though for some and a little offshore push. that equals sunny and warm. two very good friends of mine. a little breezy at times. and as we said nothing but severe clear. 80s low or a lot of 70s including coast and bay. here is sal. traffic is doing pretty well around the bay area. as a matter of fact, we are off to a decent start on many of the roads. let's take a look at the east shore freeway. the traffic is moving along nicely. with no major problems. the traffic also looks good if you are driving on interstate

880 north and southbound. right in front of the oakland coliseum. and we are looking at northbound 280 traffic looking good. there are no major problems. 4:30 let's go back to the desk. we begin with developing news from san francisco this morning. the investigation under way into a tragic fire on 18th avenue in the city's inner park side neighborhood. two people are dead including a two-year-old. ktvu claudine wong is joining us now from the fire scene with new information from investigators. good morning, claudine. >> reporter: good morning. yes, a very difficult scene out here on 18th avenue. i want to show you what is happening. we will take you through what happened. if you take a look, there is the home where all of this happened. firefighters are still inside. it is a three-story home. a family lived in that home and from what we are learning, a two-year-old child, her father, killed in that fire. the mother of that child did

get out and the father-in-law is in the hospital and is it's unclear if he almost survive. this all happened just before 1:45 this morning. firefighters say they got a call about smoke coming from a home. the first call that came in gave them an incorrect address and they searched for that address for a couple of minutes before they realized that it didn't even exist and they ended up finding the fire here on 18th avenue. they got here and the fire didn't look that bad. smoke was coming garage though and then they had trouble getting in. >> they had to cut through it. it was a tough iron gate top get up above to search for the occupants up above. there was top double locks. and the actual two i think dead bolts. and there was a plate in front of it. it took awhile to get up stairs to make the search. >> reporter: coming back out here live to the scene in san

francisco, the man in his 30s that was found dead was found in the garage of that home. once they got upstairs they searched the second floor and on the third floor where there was quite a bit of smoke that is where they found the two- year-old child and the man in his 50s. again a woman also got out believed to be the mother of the child. the latest information that we are getting from firefighters, is that there is extensive damage in the garage level of that building. arson investigators are still inside trying to figure out how it started. but a very, very tragic scene out here. very, very difficult for the firefighters that had to go in there hoping they could save the lives of the people inside but they couldn't. all the victims they found inside were unconscious. it looks like the third victim right now is fighting for his life. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 news. questions swirled about whether the suspect in the stabbing death of a dodger's fan at at & t park acted in

self-defense. last night giants fans paused for a moment in silence in memory of jonathan denver. >> remove your cap and join us as we observe a moment of silence in honor of jonathan denver who tragically lost his life last night. >> officers are patrolling the stadium in dodgers gear and plain clothes. >> we are always pumped up for the dodgers series but we are doing a little bit more on the outside of the ballpark for the neighborhoods to make sure when people leave they feel safe. >> the giants released a statement saying quote, there is absolutely no place in our community for this type of violence. san francisco police have arrested 21-year-old michael montgomery in connection to the attack. his father claims the stabbing was self-defense and denver hit his son over the head with a

chair. police also detained an 18-year- old but he has since been released. investigators are still looking for two other men seen running from the scene. this photo shows the victim jonathan denver of fort bragg at the stadium just hours before he was killed. police say denver just left a bar wednesday night with friends when he got into an argument with giants fans and was stabbed. he died at san francisco general hospital. friends of jonathan denver are speaking out about the tragedy. they say they warned him in the past about wearing giants colors -- wearing dodgers colors at giants games. >> i gave him a big warning before because i knew what happened a couple years ago in the giants verses l.a.. and it was -- i just never thought that would happen.

suspect. he was arrested tuesday on suspicion of murder. now police say he shot 20-year- old justin valdez monday night after he was getting off a muni train. the suspect might have been planning a much larger attack. >> we are just glad nothing played out other than it did. but that doesn't do us any good with poor mr. valdez. >> two other people told police the suspect also pulled a gun on them earlier monday night. he will be arraigned in court later today. last night family members and friends held an emotional attribute for justin valdez at san francisco state. he was a sophomore, environmental science major. he just turned 20 years old three weeks ago. he was passionate about recycling and conservation and his goal was to find new ways to conserve energy. >> my brother was an amazing individual. and i know he had so many things to accomplish.

>> valdez moved to san francisco from garden grove in orange county last year. a warning for women as police investigate sexual assaults possibly using the date rape drug in san rafael. detectives say at least two women may have been drugged at the nickel road lounge. the victims say they woke up the day after drinking at the bar and realized they had been sexually assaulted. the bar's owner plans to install security cameras. time now 4:38. there is a red flag warning as firefighters worry that high winds may kick up a fire. fire crews in contra costa county quickly jumped on a grass fire in lafayette yesterday afternoon. cal fire september a full response fearing -- sent a full response fearing the fire would spread uphill. low humidity and high wind gusts are enough to keep the red flag warning up. frustrated people at the

mobile home park could have their gas services restored today. pg&e shut off gas to the mobile home park. after several leaks were found. they haven't been able to use their stoves ever since then. one family told us they understand the safety concerns, butth -- but question the response of both pg&e and other response teams. >> i just hoped they would try to get the best to get the gas up and running sooner. >> pg&e was able to reconnect the gas yesterday. but the mobile home park owns the equipment and reresponsible for the repairs. all of the gas meters still need to be reassembled by management. that could happen sometime this afternoon. face to face negotiations are expected to resume today in the bart labor dispute. yesterday the bart board of directors met to figure out

their new moves. the governor has signed a law to shut down cell phone service. it requires a court order. it goes into effect on january 1st of next year. advisory committee has now approved a plan to keep airline passengers connected. next week they will consider the proposal to relax restrictions on the use of smart phones, tablets, and other personal electronic devices. passengers are currently required to turn off those devices when planes are below 10,000 feet. time is 4:40. new information about the threatening letters sent to an east bay high school, the reason police say there may be other victims. a major league confrontation caught on camera.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. an investigation is under way at an east bay elementary school after a kindergartener suffered a head injury on the playground. the four-year-old girl was playing on or around a play house or puppet theater when she somehow got injured.

parents were alerted via emergency text saying emergency crews were on campus. >> i know the school has always had good supervision. just curious of what happened. >> school administrators say they don't know how the accident happened but the play house has been removed from the playground. staff at three bay schools are in trouble for cheating on state tests. a second grade teacher erased answers on students star tests and helped them with the correct answers last spring. rust kin has been a high performing school. each school will now have its academic performance index ranking revoked this year. high school teacher arraigned on charges of having sex with 17-year-old student

set to enter a plea next week. a judge ordered guzman to be held on $250,000 bail yesterday inn san jose. guzman did not enter a plea. he faces four felony charges of unlawful sex with a minor. two pit bulls that attacked a ten-year-old boy should be humanely euthanized. that is a recommendation after a city appeals board. the boy suffered a partially severed ear, cuts to his face and head. the dog's owners have five days to appeal yesterday's decision to contra costa county superior court. starting next tuesday people can start to enroll in the new program. millions of people will be able to use the site to choose health insurance under president obama's health care law. >> because a lot of times our

around the world and turned this into a show. >> the measure is expected to pass in the senate. it will then go back to the house where republicans say they will reject it. that means negotiation will continue through the weekend and likely right up to that monday night deadline. new this morning experts from a global chemical weapons watchdog group will inspect syria's stockpile. the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons is continuing to discuss a disarmament plan for syria. the draft plan lays out a target of destroying all of syria's chemical weapons by the first half of 2014. scientists are very sure that people are to blame for global warming. the climate change says global warming is already effecting extreme weather and it could get worse. the panel on climate change convenes every six years to put together a report. the scientists believe that global warming will raise sea

levels higher than previous projections. former giants closer and current los angeles dodger brian wilson has stunned the giant's front office with his bizarre post game show. it happened last night. wilson walked up to giant's president larry bear and began yelling he never got his 2012 world series ring. however the giants say wilson never responded to their repeated attempts to present him with the ring all season. the confrontation came after the giants beat the dodgers. the oakland a's will begin single ticket sales. tickets go on sale at 10:00 at the oakland coliseum. fans are strongly encouraged to buy those tickets online. once again the tickets are for the al championship series. tickets have been on sale for the past several days. the a's clenched the american league west title last weekend. it's 4:49. we want to check in with sal

goodness it's cool. novato has a little east wind. concord to south. it's kind of variable but mainly focusing on the north, or northeast. up in the sierra again around the spine the crest of the sierra we can get a few showers. for us it's sunny and warm. breezy for some. not for all. high pressure wind is out for two days. i mean coast bay inland i could have penciled in about 74-82. system will move in late in the weekend but until then it's lots of sunshine. a little breezy at times. 60s and 70s or 80s. a little tough to get above about 82 or 83. that north wind at napa if it holds that will do it. 82 novato. 74 san francisco. i mean again the offshore breeze helps some. which would be warmer than pleasanton. yesterday just 70s. today we will bump them up.
