this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> and good morning. welcome to mornings on 2. it's saturday october 5th. >> looking at a beautiful saturday outside. let's get right to rosemary. >> good morning to you. we have a sunny, warm forecast in store for you. widespread 80s around the bay and the good news, we are doing away with the wind this morning, mostly sunny, we are very cool, we are mild in others. as a whole the wind has died down but there are few isolated areas that are still blowing and we are looking at temperatures warmer in the locations. i have your current temperatures,ly have a look at your afternoon highs and in the extended forecast a cooling trend. >> and we are following developing news for you where at least one person has died in an accident on southbound highway 101. police say it happened a 3:40.

the highway was closed for about two hours and all traffic had to divert onto 280. and we are also following a developing story for you from oakland where police are investigating a triple shooting. it happened early this morning near bart train station. we are live in oakland with the search for the shooter and information about the victims. >> reporter: the shooting happened near 13th and broadway right in the heart of downtown oakland. close to the 12th street bart station. there is also a number of bus lines that run during the overnight. you can seat bus stop across the street. investigators hope there is surveillance video from those buss and hopefully witnesses who will come forward and provide them answers about what happened. it was around 1:30 when two officers were sitting in their patrol after, they heard gun fire and went to check it out. >> they looked up. they saw a crowd, a large group of people start to disperse and

start to run around. officers got out of their vehicle, came to see what was going on. >> reporter: some of the people in that large group then led the two officers to three gun shot victims, one of the women died, the other two were taken to the local hospital. police don't know what led to the shooting. they don't have a motive oro a suspect description just yet. again the lieutenant who was out here this morning said they are hoping they will be able to find more witnesses, they plan to canvas some of the residential areas near broadway and they are going to look at the ac transit bus video because there are bus lines that run during the overnight on broadway. live in oakland. ktvu. >> oakland a's fans hoping for better luck as they cheer on their team in game it would have the series the tigers jumped on the a's

congestion. bart is also adding trains to help get fans home from the oakland raiders tomorrow night. they are expecting a very busy weekend with the playoffs, the raiders, cal, football as well as the hardly strictly bluegrass festival. >> this morning streets have reopened in san francisco's mission district after the bomb squad was called to investigate a suspicious package. the intersection of 17th and valencia was shut down. people were asked to shelter in place while the bomb squad responded. the bomb squad eventually determined the panel was not a threat. and the red flag warning expired an hour ago but after a extremely busy day firefighters are still concerned about fire danger. crews spent the night making sure a one thousand acre grass fire didn't flair up again. it started about highway 12 yesterday afternoon. firefighters battled dry conditions and winds that gusted 40-miles an hour.

>> it started at the front gate. that's where it started and that's two miles away already. its gone a lot further than that. >> areas were able to keep the flames from spreading to a nearby facility. two employees said they had trouble breathing because of the smoke but there were no serious injuries. the fire destroyed a hay barn. the wind threw thick plumes of smoke as far down as san francisco, the oakland hills and parts of the peninsula. people were urged to stay inside. the dense smoke filled the skies throughout much of the day. >> a lot of wind early yesterday as well as late into the afternoon. will we see it today? let's find out if it'll be back or is it going away. >> they will be a lot lighter today. we will be sunny and warm and won't be one kind down wind of

the fires. good news outside if you are going to be out and about starting out, quite sunny from the coast. around the bay and in to the valley this morning. temperatures again all over the place and it has to do with the wind because there are a couple of areas still cranking. take a look at half moon bay. 70 degrees at half moon and it has to do with the. the off shore breeze still blowing through. if you look at santa rosa where it's calm, 41 degrees, near 30 degrees difference. oakland also in the hills, still a little breezy this morning, you may notice as you step outside 64 in oakland. half hour ago or so the airport was reporting near 70 degrees. again that's why we are all over the place this morning. i will show you that wind as i speak. the fairfield area, a very light breeze and coming the soup. yesterday the winds were blowing this direction and the bay area was down wind of the

fire. also fire the day before. that's what we were dealing with yesterday and boy it was windy yesterday in most areas, in and around half moon bay the winds continue to blow. take a look at that 22 miles an hour and coming from the northeast. the winds have lightened up and that will be the case for today. we will be sunny and warm. the sinking air associated that ridge of high pressure over the area will continue to drive the temperatures up. i think we will be up a few degrees over yesterday so you may or may not notice but we will be warm in most places, 75 at stinson. 79 -- low to mid80s for inland communities, 82 for nevado, 84 for napa, 82 for oakland. 83 for livermore and mid80s into areas right around antioch and brentwood. santa clara for the afternoon. sunny and warm. 84 san jose, 84 santa clara, 82

redwood, 80 degrees in the city of san francisco. low to mid-70s along the coast with mostly sunny skies, may be a great day to head toward the coast. we have extended forecast here. notice subtle changes for tomorrow. most of us may not notice. into monday we begin to drop the temperatures tuesday into wednesday. the clouds increase, wednesday going to be the coolest day. if you look at the icons, even the possibility of a few scattered shower, still far enough away to have to zero in on that in a few days. we will watch it for you. i will have a look at day planner coming up. >> this morning friends and family will say good-bye to a san francisco high school student killed in a violent crash. a memorial was held yesterday for kevin sand there. will be a procession and funeral for him later this morning. it'll include members of his rotc group at lincoln high school. >> i taught him how to play

the drum. there were personal feelings. >> kevin sand was killed a week ago when his family's van was hit by another vehicle. his mother who was also injured remains in a co a. 58-year-old hit them in her mercedes. she was driving 80 miles an hour before the crash. prosecutors are still investigating the case and haven't filed charges. police in palo alto are asking for the public's help finding two men accused of assaulting a driver having car trouble. investigators released this sketch of one of the men accused of slashing the driver with a knife. that driver, a 37-year-old from san jose had pulled over after a warning light came on. the incident is especially strange because the attack appears to have been unprovoked. the driver was treated for moderate injuries. >> ennew the president is trying to show the human toll of the government shut down.

>> we put in an offer to buy a home this weekend. it was accepted. if funding doesn't go through our chances of the american dream are down the drain. >> in this morning's weekly address the president read a couple of letters from americans describing how the shut down is hurting them and their families. one person from alabama talked about how the local head start program was unable to provide services for hundreds of children because workers were furloughed. the president said he has received more than 30,000 letters angry americans over the past few days the secretary of state john kerry said congress should think long and hard about the message the united states is isn'ting sending to the world. he is in bali for an economic summit. the president scrapped plans to attend that summit. the house speaker said that with both the president and congress in washington this weekend it's the perfect time to start negotiations to end

the shut down. the gop controlled house will be in session today so it can continue passing bill that would reopen selective parts of the government. >> the american people don't want our government shut down and neither do i. all we are asking for is to sit down and have a discussion and to bring fairness, reopen the government and bring fairness to the american people under obama care. >> the democrat controlled senate said it'll not consider piece meal bill that reopen some parts of the government rather than all of the offices. >> bracing for karen. how the gulf coast is preparing for the hurricane and the furloughed worker that have been called back into help. >> and it's turning into a price war for two major retailers and that means the i- phone 5c just got cheaper. >> first let's give you a live look outside at the approach to the bay bridge toll plaza.

>> and happening now not quite a hurricane but even sot gulf coast is bracing for the arrival of karen. the national hurricane center said right now that storm is 185 miles southwest of the mouth of the mississippi river. watches and warnings are in effect from louisiana to florida including new orleans. that storm is expected to hit the coast tonight. >> we know what storms can do. they can change on a dime. when that happens you need to be prepared. >> the florida governor has declared a state of emergency in 18 counties and fema has recalled some worker who were furloughed by the shut down to help with the response. >> if you are planning to fly over thanksgiving you may want to buy your tickets now. online booking agencies are reporting ticket prices go up five dollars a day. right now they are up about 1% compared to last year but last year's prices were the highest in eight years. booking a red eye and taking a flight with more than one section can help you save.

computer techs are working overtime to fix glitches with the health care website. some people looking to sign unor compare rates had trouble logging on or even completely applications. the site health care.gov will be available this weekend during off peak hours for repairs, consumers have until december 15th to enroll for coverage. that starts in january. >> excitement is building in the city of patterson for the opening of the amazon center. the location is scheduled to open this fall. the internet giant is still taking applications, some of the open positions range from operations manager to robotics tech. a center will open in tracy to handle smaller items. employees in berkeley say they may have gotten their last paycheck after being told not to come back unless they are called. 15 people are employed at the

plant which brews bottles and ships beer. they say a change in management caused low morale and prompted workers to create a union. several weeks later the company said it was shutting down to clean up a contamination problem. worker as accused the cop of retail ating against them. >> we always did everything in the brewery so its heart breaking to just be kind of pushed outo >> we contacted the company. officials declined to talk but said in a statement that we have identified a quality issue with our brewery and have taken that one off line. employees are opening the union will meet with company officials next week to work out a deal. >> wal-mart has dropped the price of the i-phone 5c to $45. this after best buy's announcement on thursday that it would sell the phone for $50 with a two year contract. the catch is it's also requiring buyers to sign up for

two years. wal-mart said the deal is to help bring attention to the 5c as the higher end 5s continues to sell out . three companies with strong bay area ties may be bidding for blackberry. google, cisco and sap are discussing bids for the company siting sources close to the matter. blackberry could sell all or parts of the company to the potential bidders. that is if don't go through with a deal to sell to fairfax financial holdings. they are not commenting on the story. >> happening today, in just hours, the governor will officially be the longest serving governor in california history. brown served two terms from 1975 to 1983 -- in 1983. when he was elected again he was only the second to be

elected to a third term. he is the oldest signature sitting governor. he may be in office for some time to come. he is likely to run for a 4th term next year. the government shut down is casting a shadow over the state gop convention. more than 1600 party leaders and activists in anaheim including the key note speaker texas governor rick perry. they say they are closely watching events in washington but they are also focusing on expanding the reach of the party. >> for anyone to suggest that they know what is going to happen in november of 2014, based on what's happening in october of 2013, is either a profit or a fool. >> political analysts say attracting new voters will be a key task for party leaders, just 29% of registered voters are republican. no republican in california holds statewide officeo. > jimmy carter is coming to the bay area for habitat for humanity.

the couple is scheduled to help build homes in oakland on monday. on tuesday they will travel to east san jose to help repair the homes of veterans and seniors, some say they hope the visit will raise awareness of crime, eight habitat for humanity workers were robbed at gun point last week while preparing for carter's visit. the nation's oldest full time park ranger has been furloughed. 92-year-old betty works at the world war ii home front national historic park in richmond. she has been there for the past seven years. she said she is devastated by the ongoing government shut down. she said she hopes the furlough will end before october 12th. that is when the park is set to host its home front festival which betty has been working on for months. >> changes coming to the happiest place on earth. the earth. . and should employees be required to support worker who

. jessie day, one of the first to kick off the bluegrass music festival. boss scaggs, the festival in golden gate park is free and runs through tomorrow. you can check out the weekend line up on ktvu.com under the hot topics tab. >> disney parks will launch a new system for disabled guests. right now they are allowed to skip the lines with up to five guests. starting wednesday they will have to use a system similar to fast pass. they will be given a card with their photograph. they can use those cards to get a time to come back and bypass the line. they will only be able to do it one ride at a time.

bay area riders may have new incentives to carpool and use public transportation. the air quality commission is proposing a new rule that would allow large companies to offer benefits. it would include paying for transit or carpool, offering free van or bus services and subsides >> so much happening today in the bay area. let's hope it's going to be better outside air quality wise. >> we will have moderate air quality. we are sunny, slightly warmer and the winds again dying down with just a few areas this morning reporting still the off shore breeze. the ridge of high pressure will strengthen. the temperatures will climb but notice it's a small climb from yesterday. we are talking just a degree or two warmer, the good news is we won't have that wind to deal with. a look at the extended forecast. we will stay sunny and warm through the weekend.

in fact only small changes in store for tomorrow. so much so you may not notice. if you get out the doors this morning, if you notice that breeze chances are you may be slightly warmer. we are talking about temperatures in the 60s to near 70s. oakland reported a very mild condition. those numbers are dropped off just a little bit. where we are dealing 40s in the north bay. santa rosa, napa with chilly weather. chillier than yesterday without the wind. by noon upper 60s for the coast. low to mid-70s round the bay. as we get into the afternoon, 70s at the coast. widespread 80's around the bay and inland even low 80s along the peninsula for the east bayshore line, it'll be a mild to warm day all round. into monday, notice temperatures start to fall. the coolest weather will come tuesday into wednesday with the increase in clouds and a slight chance at some rain. i will watch that for you. in the meantime a detailed look at the current temperatures coming up.

. shots fired outside a bart station in downtown oakland. more on the victims and the search for the gunman. welcome back. >> we have new details about the developing news we are following out of the east bay. one person is dead and two others were wounded in an early morning triple shooting. we are live at the scene where we just talked to a person who witnessed what happened. >> reporter: this shooting happened near 13th and broadway. right in front of the chase bank here in the heart of downtown oakland in front of the 12th street bart station. we talked to a man working the overo night shift in this area who said he saw what happened. he said around 1:30 there was a group of 30 to 40 people hanging out at the intersection, several hours after the city's first friday festival ended. this witness who didn't want to be identified said he saw a man open fire in the crowd and he said what was puzzling is that

there was no shouting or fighting before the man started shooting. >> something that happened before the gun fire but he was quiet as a mouse. no words, no nothing, nothing, it was just random. >> reporter: just started shooting. >> yeah. just started shooting. >> reporter: police arrived with in minutes of the shooting according to this witness and he said some of the people in the crowd led the officers to three victims. two women and one man. one of the women died from her injuries here at the scene. two other victims went to the hospital. the witness said that he heard the victim's friends talking about how the victims weren't even from oakland, that they were here for the city's first friday block party last night. that party usually ends and nine and this happened at 1:30. police don't have a suspect description yet. however the lieutenant who was out here on the scene said that officers will canvas the

huge cranes will change it from the baseball set up to the football field. normally they would want a couple of days to make this switch but with less than a day they say it'll be a challenge. lawyers for the city of san jose major league baseball squared off over a lawsuit accusing baseball of unlawly preventing the athletics from moving to san jose. the judge asked both sides questions yesterday during a nearly two hour hearing but no ruling was made san jose filed the suit against mlb and the commissioner in june asking the court to find mlb in violation of anti trust laws. mlb filed a motion in august to have the case thrown outo. >> the government shut down has furloughed air national guard members in mountain view. a unit that responds to emergencies like wildfires. there is often heavy activity on red flag days the base is quiet this weekend and commanders with the rescue

wing say that while they do have enough people to respond to missions, training drills have been suspended. the shut down has forced the guard to cancel the day of drills today. emergency responder also take part in a fire drill at nine this morning. the kent field fire district will lead that evacuation exercise. the drill is held every year in the kent wood neighborhood. about 200 homes are participating. officials say the homes are at risk to wildfires so it's important that responders can help. and firefighters in solano were spread thin while many battled a grass fire, others were called to a separate grass fire near interstate 780. it threatened buildings at a nearby building complex forcing residents to evacuate. some weren't taking chances. they grabbed hoses, put water down in the hopes of keeping that fire away. >> and happening today the names of 20er 22 fallen

firefighters will be added to the firefighter's memorial. santa anna winds have triggered red flag warnings in much of the state. . >> a judge has ordered pg&e to shut down a major natural gas pipeline over concerns there could be another san brno type explosion. this one is known as line 147. it's located in san carlos. the city said it on obtained an e-mail who warned about welds on the pipeline. the engineer reportedly asked if the pipe was cracked and near failure. pg&e issued this statement, first and foremost we want our customers to know that line 147 is safe. if the line was not safe we wouldn't keep it in service. the utility added that it's reduced the gas flow through the pipe by 20%. a 12-year-old boy who is

autistic is in critical condition after being hit by at least one car on a busy freeway. that accident happened yesterday morning on eastbound 580 near fruitvale. several drivers reported someone running in traffic before the child was hit. they say the child was reported missing. >> a san francisco computer engineer accused of running a billion dollar internet drug empire is now suspected of hiring a hit man in canada. the 29-year-old appeared in san francisco federal court yesterday. this is a sketch from inside that courtroom. agents say he operated the website silk road where user cscope buy and sell drugs he faces charges including drug traffic and money laundering. he tried to hire a hit man for $150,000 to kill a computer vendor suspected of trying to

trying extort him. a turf war in vallejo has claimed the life of an innocent victim. police have responded to 14 gang related shootings since june. the latest came on sunday when an 18-year-old brandon chandler was gunned down. he isn't in a gang and the shooting was a case of mistaken identity. >> there is no reason for this he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time >> police say budget cuts are making it difficult to fight the surge of violence. the number of officers have been cut in half and the department's gang unit is no longer active. >> a dying man's last wish to see someone arrested for killing his son has come true. charles butler junior was shot and killed moments after bumping into someone's car while parking on the street in west oakland. last month nearly two years after the shooting his father in an interview made a plea to the community to help find the

killer. after that story aired police say they got a break-in the case when someone came forward with information and yesterday investigators said two men were charged with butler's murder. one is now in custody, and the other has a warrant out for his arrest. >> i just feel that -- and hope that they feel the heart felt pain that me and my family have felt since my son was killed, murdered by them. >> the alameda county da said that the one suspect in custody is scheduled to be arraigned on monday. >> your time now is 7:38 and the weather has changed a little bit this morning. i can still smell smoke but not quite as windy which i'm sure firefighters will be glad to see today. >> absolutely. we won't have that smoke drifting our way because the north winds have definitely dropped off in most cases and because of it, in some areas, over the north bay, 20 to 25-

a bit. where we don't have the wind it's chilly. 46menlo park. 49 in foster city. 50s around the peninsula as well and we have temperatures again being driven by the wind. take a look at half moon bay. the winds lightning up. you see just a few lingering areas with the strong gusty conditions. the rim is strengthening over the area. its going to continue to bring the warm up, the northerly winds, they will be dry and not as strong as yesterday. that's good news. as we continue for today the ridge in control of the weather pattern and take a look at some of the afternoon highs, slightly warmer than yesterday. 82 in nevado, mid-70s at stinson. a feeling a lot of folks heading to the beach today. low 80o's in alameda. maybe you are going to crab cove. 82 for oakland. 83 danville. into the santa clara valley we have 85 in morgan hill.

mental illnesses. that -- her boyfriend reportedly said she thought the president had her under surveillance. police in new york say that two bikers allegedly seen on video attacking the driver of a suv have turned themselves in. one is believed to be the man who smashed the suv with his helmet and then beat the driver. the other man is a accused of going after the vehicle. cnn reports that off duty police officer was among the bikers, he didn't tell his bosses until four days later. he is now under investigation. the bikers calling for the driver to be charged after run over some of them to get away. >> tesla stock is rebounding after the ceo spoke out about a fire in an electric car stock rose 4% after a statement online saying the fire in the

car trouble. the driver from san jose had pulled over after a warning light came on in his car. >> he didn't know what they were saying as they approached. the main suspect produced a knife, attacked the victim and cut him four times. >> police say that the incident is especially strange because the attack appears to have been unprovoked. the driver was treated for moderate injuries. >> the red flag warning for parts of the bay area expired two hours ago but firefighters are still concerned about fire danger. crews in solano spent the night making sure the grass fire didn't flare up. it started at highway 12 yesterday afternoon. firefighters battled dry conditions and winds gusting to 40 miles an hour. >> it started at the front gate. that's where it started. that's two miles away already. its gone a lot further than that. >> air crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to a

happened around 1:30 this morning near 13th and broadway in front of the chase bank that you see on the street on this intersection here. its right in front of the 12th street bart station entrance. we talked to a man who worked the overnight shift at a business here on broadway. he said a group of about 30 to 40 people had been hanging out at this intersection at 1:30 in the morning and started to gather there hours after the first friday block party ended. the witness said all of the sudden a man started shooting, firing three to four shots into the crowd. two women and a man were hit. one of the women died. the witness said he can't believe it happened, especially since there were no words exchanged, no fight, no argument happening, before this shooting happened. >> lot of public place like this. it was kids out last night >> reporter: you don't think the people hit were the targets? >> i don't think so. i think they may have been just

case thrown out. >> the government shut down has furloughed air national guard mens in mountain view. a unit that responds to emergencies like wildfires the commanders with the 129th rescue wing say while they have enough people to respond to missions, training drills have been suspended and that includes all activities planned for today's statewide day of drills. in about 25 minutes, emergency responders in marin will take part in a fire drill. the district and sheriff's office will both leading that emergency evacuation. it's held every year. 200 homes are participating. it's important to help residents evacuate quickly and safely. and firefighters in solano were spread thin yesterday. many of them had to battle that grass fire and then others were called to a separate grass fire

was not fully back open until just after 7:00 this morning. that accident is still under investigation and it is still unclear if anyone else was hurt. and we are also following a developing story from oakland, where police are investigating a triple shooting. it happened at a bus stop. allie rasmus joins us now with an interview from another witness to the shooting. allie? >> reporter: well, this man did not want to be identified, but he told us he happened to be in the area of 14th and broadway at 1:30 this morning, where the shooting happened, right in front of the chase bank on broadway and near the 12th street bart station entrance. the man says there was a group of 30 to 40 people who had gathered at the intersection several hours after the city's first friday block party had ended. the witness we interviewed said all of a sudden pretty much without warning, someone opened fire into that large crowd. the gunfire struck three people, one man and two women, and one of the women died from

her injuries. >> had my back turned. i was right there on the corner of chase and all i heard was the shots, pow, pow, pow, pow. everybody started running. didn't see no fight or nothing. just heard shots. >> you don't think the people hit were intended targets? >> i don't think so. i think they may have been just wrong place, wrong time. >> reporter: now, that was another witness we spoke to this morning. he said he was working the overnight shift at one of these businesses on broadway. he says he heard some of the victims' friends after the shooting, talking about how the victims weren't even from oakland hand come here from the first friday block party. two officers were in the area. they happened to be in the area before it happened, heard the gunfire and immediately responded. police haven't identified a suspect yet, but investigators who were on the scene here say they are not only going to be talking to more witnesses in the area. they are also going to be checking surveillance video from the ac transit buses that go up and down broadway to see if they can get more answers

about who was responsible for the shooting. live in oakland, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2news. and happening now, friends and family are saying a final farewell to a san francisco high school student killed in a crash. a memorial service was held yesterday for 16-year-old kevin song. there is going to be a procession and funeral for him this morning. it is going to include members of his rotc group from lincoln high school. >> i taught him how to play the drum and everything. there was some personal feelings with him and a lot of emotions. >> kevin song was killed a week ago when another vehicle slammed into his family's mini van. his mother, who was also injured, does remain in a coma this morning. police say 58-year-old jenny zoo crashed into them in her mercedes suv. investigators say she was driving 80 miles an hour before the crash. prosecuters say they are still investigating the case and have not yet filed charges. oakland a's fans, hoping for better luck tonight as they

this weekend to help people get to tonight's playoff game and other events in the bay area. the oakland a's are encouraging fans also to take bart to help ease some of the congestion along 880 near the coliseum. bart is also adding trains to help get fans home from the oakland raiders game tomorrow night. the transit agency is expecting a very busy weekend with the playoffs, the raiders, cal football, as well as the hardly strictly bluegrass festival. well, the red flag warning for the bay area expired at 6:00 this morning. after the busy day yesterday, firefighters are still concerned about the fire danger out there. crews in solano county spent the night making sure this 1000- acre grass fire did not flare up again. firefighters were battling dry conditions and those winds, which were gusting at about 40 miles an hour. >> it started at the front gate at highway 12. that's where it started and that's two miles away already and it's gone a lot further than that. >> air crews were able to keep

the flames from spreading to a nearby facility that manufactures small explosive devices for car air bags. two employees said they did have trouble breathing because of all the smoke, but there were no serious injuries reported. the fire, however, did destroy a hay barn and about a dozen farm vehicles inside a building. now, winds blew the thick plumes of smoke as far down as san francisco, the oakland hills, and parts of the peninsula. the bay area air quality management district did issue a smoke advisory, urging people to stay inside so they didn't breathe in the dirty air. that dense smoke filled the skies throughout much of the day. . starting out with a live look over the bay point area, mostly sunny skies across the bay, along the coastline this morning the coast is clear, and the ridge of high pressure is strengthening for today. the winds have lightened up quite a bit, although a few local gusts in a few areas, keeping temperatures up in some cases this morning.

i will show you that in just a moment. so the ridge of high pressure off the coastline, but strengthening. we have the north flow that continues. it comes in this direction for today, but it's not as strong. so that is the element that we are losing, the very strong, gusty conditions. even though we'll be warm and dry, those winds are not going to be as strong. that's why the red flag warning has expired. there is a fire burning in butte county. although the winds will be light, they are coming from the north at times f we do get a smell of smoke for today, this could be the reason. you may not be out of the woods completely when it comes to the smoke, but it is not going to be like yesterday. yesterday, we had fires in contra costa county and sonoma county and that wind moving down -- we were downwind of the northerly breeze. that's why all the bay area was seeing the smoke and smelling the smoke. not going to be like yesterday, but we may get just a bit from that fire burning in butte county. meanwhile, take a look at these winds. they are variable at this

and excitement is building in the city of patterson, as amazon gets closer to the official opening of its distribution center. a spokesperson says that 1 million square-foot location should open this fall. the internet giant is still accepting job applications in some of the open positions ranging from operations manager to robotics maintenance technician. a distribution center is also set to open just north of patterson in tracy. that one will handle smaller items. wal-mart has dropped the price of the iphone 5c to $45. this comes after best buy's announcement on thursday that it would sell the phone for $50 with a two-year contract. the catch with wal-mart, it's also requiring buyers to sign up for two years. wal-mart says the deal is to help bring attention to the iphone 5c as the higher end 5s continues to sell out. despite criticism from industry analysts, apple will continue to sell the colorful models for $99. three companies with strong bay area ties may be bidding for blackberry.

the family of a 2-year-old boy says he was not allowed onto a road at the big fresno fair because he's autistic. the woman says her husband rode most of the rides with her son because he couldn't be left alone, but things went wrong when they approached one ride. she claims a worker said the boy couldn't go on the ride because he was disabled. >> that was supposed to be our day of fun for him because it's hard to take him anywhere. and it just ruined our day. >> the worker claims he denied the boy because his parents did not want to pay to go on the road with him. the fair says the worker is going to be retrained. a representative for the fair offered the family a free day at the fair, which they accepted. well, this week, disney parks will launch a new system for guests with disabilities. right now, those guests are allowed to skip the lines with up to five other people. but starting on wednesday, disabled visitors will have to use a system similar to fast pass. when they enter the park, those guests will be given a card

low 60s along the coast and slight chance of scattered showers. back to the desk. well, a new study is giving us a closer look at just exactly what is inside the nuggets you get from two u.s. fast food chains. researchers at the university of mississippi medical center in jackson tested the popular treat. they won't say where they bought the nuggets from, but they say nuggets tested were at most 50% meat. the rest was fat, skin, blood vessels, nerves and bone fragments. scientists say the study does not represent all chicken nuggets and admit they only tested two chicken nuggets from each of the two chains chosen for the study. a pg&e pipeline is ordered shut down. the concern about the possibility of another explosion like the one in san bruno. >> what a young woman accused of pushing her new husband over a cliff had to say for herself in court.

participating. officials say those homes are vulnerable to wildfires, so it's important that responders help residents learn how to evacuate quickly and safely. firefighters in solano county, awfully thin yesterday in terms of resources, while many battles the grass fire, and others were called to a separate grass fire along interstate 780 in venetia. the fire threatened buildings at a nearby apartment complex forcing residents to evacuate. some tenants didn't take any chances. they pulled out hoses to make sure they put water on the fire and keep the fire away from their areas. while california deals with the threat of wildfires this weekend, many states are actually digging out from a rare fall snowstorm. roads and airports are closed in wyoming, nebraska, montana, and idaho, stranding hundreds of residents. 33 inches of snow fell in south dakota. the snow brought thunderstorms to the great plains. tornadoes were reported in

episodes and probably needed therapy. but the investigation found that the it firm allowed him to keep his job without requiring treatment. a montana bride accused of pushing her new husband off a cliff has pleaded not guilty. on thursday, 22-year-old jordan lynn graham was charged with first and second degree murder for the death of 25-year-old cody johnson. she is also charged with making false statements. investigators say the couple was married for a little more than a week when johnson fell to his death on july 7th in glacier national park. according to affidavit, graham admitted to pushing him during an argument. tesla's stock is rebounding after the company's ceo spoke out about a fire in one of its electric cars. tesla's stock rose 4% after a statement was posted online, saying the fire in the model s would have been much worse if it happened in a gas-powered car. he says the fire was sparked when a large metal object struck the bottom of the car, piercing a plate protecting the

shot. ktvu's allie rasmus has been talking to witnesses this morning and joins us live from the scene. >> reporter: we've talked to two witnesses this morning, both of whom wanted to remain anonymous. one happened to be working the overnight shift at one of the businesses on broadway where the shooting happened, 14th and broadway, around 1:30 this morning. the other witness we talked to said he was part of the crowd that was fired on. both men told us there was a group of 30 to 40 people gathered at 14th and broadway at 1:30 this morning. this is five hours after the first friday block party had ended. both men said all of a sudden without warning, a man opened fire into the crowd of people near the bus stop. gunfire struck three people, one man and two women. one of the women died from her injuries. >> didn't hear an argument before, didn't say nothing. he stopped, turned around, started shooting. >> reporter: police arrived within minutes. there were two officers parked

. a san francisco computer engineer accused of running a billion dollar internet drug empire is now expected of hiring a hitman. 29-year-old ross albrecht appeared in a san francisco federal courtroom yesterday. this is a sketch inside court. federal agents say albrecht operated a website called silk road. it's an online black market where users can buy and sell illegal drugs. right now, albrecht is awaiting extradition back to new york, where he faces charges that include drug trafficking, computer hacking and money laundering. prosecuters also believe he tried to hire an assasin for
