the outbreak so you should look for the usda marks on the packaging. the usda says the chicken is safe to eat if it is handles properly and fully cooked. we have posted the codes to look out for on the chicken. find then at ktvu.com on our home page under hot topics. >> the city of san carlos wants to hire legal and technical experts to investigate whether a pg&e pipeline is safe. city leaders became concerned about the 83-year-old pipeline after seeing an e-mail from a pg&e engineer. the e-mail raised questions about the possibility of a san bruno type of situation. on monday the city manager plans to ask the city council to prove spending as much as 250,000 dollars to investigate the line. the state public utilities commission has order pg&e to keep the pipeline out of service until the agency can determine whether it is safe. san francisco police say sharp-eyed criminals are exploiting a flaw in the atm system and it is getting their hands on thousands of dollars

taking toll on military families who have lost a loved one. army 1st lt. jennifer moreno died sunday in a bombing in afghanistan, officials say the usf graduate is one of 26 troops killed since october first, his families have not received death benefits. >> it is just validating the fact that she went in harm's way to protect our way of life and now we are telling the family we are going to put this all on hold. >> moreno was a graduate of usf school of nursing, govern brown has ordered the flags to be flown at half staff in her honor. a veteran's charity is offering to pay death benefits during the government shut down, the fisher house foundation in maryland says it will make the payments until it can be reimbursed by the defense different. it could help her family, her body is being returned to family maybes in san diego. there is a job fair on the peninsula today for veterans

next wednesday on charges including false imprison and battery. >> alden smith is facing felony weapons charges on top of his arrest for drunk driving, prosecutors filed the new charges yesterday. investigators say a search of smith's south bay home last year turned up weapons to the ones similar to the ones you now see on your screen, that came after he hosted a party that ended in violence. >> and two people were shot and mr. smith himself was stabbed, so, yeah, the party was completely out of control. >> prosecutors say smith bought the weapons in arizona so he could face federal charges for bringing them across state lines, smith's dui arrest took place last month in san jose. the 49ers have placed him on leave after that arrest. a gunman who killed a person in broad daylight in san francisco is still on the loose. the 20-year-old victim was shot several times on a crowded sidewalk on mission street yesterday afternoon. investigators say there is a good chance the shooting was witnessed by many people and
